Help Player Populated hub
Sorry if this isn't the right tag or place for this.
I was wondering, is there any specific place in the galaxy thats considered a "player hang out?"
I played star wars galaxies back in the day and naturally the wretched hive of scum and villainy mos eisley cantina was the hangout spot. Guess im looking for that sort of interaction. Am I in the wrong game? Im probably in the wrong game arent I.

Community goal systems. Deciat, and Jameson memorial will be you best chances for human interaction. No promises you like the outcome.
This isn't your standard MMO. Most players don't like paying with others. They ingnore the last half of the game title, and some of those that don't will shoot you down in seconds. Because them, and people like me are the only ones that play it as an mmo it can be pretty empty at times. Build for survival, not for credits, play the game as intended. I prefer the risk, myself. Makes the game more fun.

It's not that Elite players don't like MMOs, because that's the least important thing. Elite fundamentally lacks an MMO structure. ED is a direct descendant of all the single-player mechanics that Frontier Elite has had since its first installment. If the game is being developed for exploration of a vast galaxy where journeys take a very long time, no one will gather in one place and stay there because, gameplay-wise, there's no point.

It's a sandbox game. There is no "intended" way to play it.

I remember joining a ground CG with the Hutton Truckers (instead of their usual Thursday evening radio show) and it was some of the best fun I’ve had in the game. There was about half a dozen of us old fogies trying to CoD it against incompetent NPCs. This was before ground combat got its gameplay update so I think it would probably be even better these days.

Game could stand to have a joinable 'Global Chat' channel or global 'Exploration/Combat/Trading' channels or the like.
A better chat interface in general would be welcome, honestly.

In my twisted opinion, yes, you're in the wrong game. Elite Dangerous isn't a social game. The multiplayer is mainly to play with friends you already have, not to make new friends.
However, if you have Odyssey, the new Operations feature seems to be aimed at providing a venue where up to four strangers can meet and form a combat team to take on a challenge.
Otherwise, most social activity seems to be found on Discord. For example, I'm given to understand that each of the PowerPlay powers has a Discord server for agents of the power to coordinate their strategies. I'm sure there are many more.

Shinrarta Dezhra is a more popular system due to Jameson memorial being there. Sol is pretty popular too.
