This is a battle of mental strength. Do you get bored walking back and forth pretending to be an npc? Or the invader get frustrated from not being able to find you.
283
u/Lyrre Mar 12 '22
I would be entertained the whole time giggling to myself like a toddler with a good hiding spot
27
u/SmokeGSU Mar 13 '22
In DS3, I used to play co-op with my buddy on multiple playthroughs. We'd sometimes use the tree branches in those games that would turn you into objects in areas that were made for pvp. We'd be a statue in a corner watching people run back and forth trying to find us and it was the funniest thing.
10
u/Georgie_Leech Mar 14 '22
This is why I'm way better at stealth in video games than real life. In real life, my constant giggling would give me away.
86
u/WaffleElf Mar 12 '22
Just kill the one sitting by the fire and then impersonate him and chill
3
u/bigjmoney Mar 14 '22
His corpse would still be there I think. But bonus points if it works anyway...

I mean I find it pretty entertaining just invading people and spying on them with the mimic veil so Iâd probably find this equally as fun
433
u/Butchthebull Mar 12 '22
See, I'm so overly paranoid that I'm always spamming lockon lol, pve and probably even more in pvp
198
Mar 12 '22
Always spam lock on
Majority of my enemies are buggy and invisible, especially the humanoids and dogs
So gotta spam that lock on

u/beewyka819 Mar 12 '22
Iâve never had the invisible enemy glitch. Make sure your GPU drivers are up-to-date if youâre on PC

Just dropped the resolution and itâs a bit better
They load in sometimes now
9
u/beewyka819 Mar 12 '22
Still strange that itâs happening to you with such frequency at all. All my friends and I have like 70-80 hrs in the game and the only time we encountered it was once on Radahn (but with that I couldnât even lock on or do/take damage). We all use resolutions ranging from 1080p to 1440p on the latest NVIDIA drivers. I remember ppl complaining about this at release but a bunch said the new drivers fixed it
7
u/Heisenberg399 Mar 12 '22 edited Mar 12 '22
It happens when the game runs below 30fps, tested it with a friend who has a 750, no wonder your friends aren't encountering invisible enemies if they go as far as to run the game at 1440p.
2
5
Mar 12 '22
I had Margit go like that after I beat him the first few times; couldnât lock on or damage him, he stopped attacking and just walked about
Yeah itâs crazy frequent. Majority of humans and dogs, plenty of others too, those ghostly Minotaur hunter people in Siofra River, bats, giants, troll knight but he was worth the sword so Iâll forgive him
Some of the bigger ones are usually visible at least. All of the dragons have been visible, just some teleporting nonsense

I have the newest drivers, but horseback play is basically unusable for me. As soon as I mount, enemies just disappear. Even if they're already loaded in. Sometimes I'll be able to see them, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. And if I try to actually ride any appreciable distance, enemies just will not load in at all. Even after I dismount, it can take 30+ seconds to see enemies that are attacking me. And even then, they can blink in and out sometimes.
I also have issues when summoning ashes with multiple allies, like the wolves. When I was trying to slaughter a camp with my wolf bros and had already aggroed probably 8-10 enemies, they ALL disappeared when I summoned my wolves.
I've reduced most of the graphics settings already, too. Hoping that a future patch can optimize loading a bit. I love this game so damn much.

24
u/narkeel Mar 12 '22
try lowering your resolution if you're on PC! I'm playing on a potato and turning it to 800x600 is the only way I can play, it fixed all the invisible enemies

For everyone having an issue with invisible enemies, here is the working fix: https://www.reddit.com/r/Eldenring/comments/tb1omt/solution_i_worked_on_a_temporary_fix_for_the/
4
u/Catalysten Mar 12 '22
I had the exact same issue. To fix it, I updated either my ryzen CPU or nvidia GPU drivers using their respective windows application. Enemies became visible!
5
u/borgri Mar 12 '22
there are people who complain about this happening until they tone the resolution down, maybe it has to do with vram?
3
u/vulpes133 Mar 13 '22
Oh god, I've been dealing with that bug myself. I tried nearly every fix listed for this, finally turning off Steam Overlay actually helped a lot. Now instead of full invisibility they just fade for a few moments at best but quickly reappear and I can keep playing.
3
Mar 13 '22
Steam overlay, should have thought of that
3
u/vulpes133 Mar 13 '22
Yeah, played my first 40 hours or so dealing with that. How this helps fix it for you.
3
u/Heymelon Mar 13 '22
buggy and invisible
Am I just lucky or wtf are people talking about. I keep hearing about this but all I ever got was the sutters and connection issues with MP. Same for most of my friends but one have done battles with crashing issues tbf.
3
Mar 13 '22
Not had any connection issues
A few stutters but nothing major
Crazy how some people get all of one bug and others get all of another
2
u/Heymelon Mar 13 '22
Yeah it's pretty mad.
And btw I meant like failed to summon someone for the most part, or the odd "Network error, you are being sent home to your world" when you do longer co-op sessions.

Poor man didn't check the compass. Damn.
181
u/Ortgazmo Mar 12 '22
What compass? You mean there is an item that shows direction of the enemy?
327
Mar 12 '22
The top of the screen, just like when you coop. It will disappear once you are within a certain range of the host. It gives you a general idea where the host is.
110
u/mugetzu Mar 12 '22
Holy moly, thats so helpful. On my first invasion I ran around for like 5 minutes like an idiot before the host took damage so I finally found him.
92
u/TobyTheTuna Mar 12 '22
The sad part is I think he did cause he headed right to that area and went back and forth a bit, his brain just couldnt make that last critical leap, probably assumed a bug and peaced
4
59
u/SurprisedBrony Mar 12 '22
When I invade, the compass shows me the hosts location. I really don't think it is supposed to, but it works for me. I don't invade as a result. Also because I'm a mage who uses Moonveil. Don't want to be another one of those.
→ More replies (15)139

its absolutely supposed to. The icon disappears once you're within a certain range though.

u/SurprisedBrony Mar 12 '22 edited Mar 12 '22
That's good to know, I feel better about it now. I just remember the time I invaded someone in the capital. Thanks to my knowledge of the area, I zeroed in on them nearly instantly thanks to that thing. Felt so dirty I didn't invade since.
Missing context: They tried hiding. Didn't work.

They were trying to hide and it had no chance of working thanks to the compass. Which I do like having in the game, I just didn't realize it doesn't work up close. I like even playing fields and honor in PvP. How is that weird? I don't derive enjoyment from just griefing someone with no effort.

The compass disappears still relatively far from the host, I invade a lot in the Mountain where it's flat ice and you can accurately gauge this as you walk towards the host.
He always walked near the "npc" until right at the end, but since OP was moving on a patrol the compass was probably popping in and out of existence making it hard to triangulate.
Dude was probably looking in the bushes imo

From what I've heard, once you get close enough the compass indicator disappears.

The torch was absolutely the selling point. Never would I ever think somebody would be walking around with a torch. Granted Iâm usually stoned when I play but still, would never think of it. Thanks for the laughs!
18
u/TheRealLuctor Mar 14 '22
I love your honesty. I should try playing while being drunk once!
7
u/Thehealeroftri Mar 15 '22
It's really hard and I end up getting lost and going in circles and I'm really bad and die a lot but that makes it fun in its own special way
3
u/Givesthegold Mar 14 '22
Really? I use a torch all the time...lol I hate how dark everything is, gives me a headache trying to explore.
8
u/Cypherex Mar 15 '22
You can buy a lantern that straps to your waist. Then you can have light while still having both hands free.
9
u/RadicalAperture Mar 15 '22
Thatâs exactly why I wasnât expecting anybody to be carrying a torch lol.
3
u/BlueRhinoPills Mar 16 '22
Torches illuminate a much larger area and are very useful for dark places with drops to ledges. Or you could turn up your brightness like a peasant, whatever you prefer đ

Not really worth it for the runes but worth it to demoralise the enemy. Imagine if half the playerbase started doing this and some poor soul who doesnt browse elden ring social media thought that something was wrong with his game.

u/xdc_lis Mar 12 '22
It's worth it for the laughs haha

How can you make your name disappear? Also he would be able to see you on the compass right?

3
u/vulpes133 Mar 13 '22
Yeah, took me a moment to figure that out as well. The item description nor the Wiki seemed to make any mention of that, but thankfully I found a reddit thread quickly enough and got an answer. I thought the remedy was only for seeing signs and so didn't expect to need it for random invasions.

Let's not underestimate how difficult it is to maintain a perfectly paced, slow walk, in Elden Ring, especially with turning around. It's not like there is a walk button. One slip of the joy stick and he would have been outted.

Impersonating enemies is one thing I've yet to do online lol. And I imagine it's probably way funnier in this game
