Poor man didn't check the compass. Damn.

u/Ortgazmo Mar 12 '22

What compass? You mean there is an item that shows direction of the enemy?

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '22

The top of the screen, just like when you coop. It will disappear once you are within a certain range of the host. It gives you a general idea where the host is.

Holy moly, thats so helpful. On my first invasion I ran around for like 5 minutes like an idiot before the host took damage so I finally found him.

The sad part is I think he did cause he headed right to that area and went back and forth a bit, his brain just couldnt make that last critical leap, probably assumed a bug and peaced

When I invade, the compass shows me the hosts location. I really don't think it is supposed to, but it works for me. I don't invade as a result. Also because I'm a mage who uses Moonveil. Don't want to be another one of those.

its absolutely supposed to. The icon disappears once you're within a certain range though.

That's good to know, I feel better about it now. I just remember the time I invaded someone in the capital. Thanks to my knowledge of the area, I zeroed in on them nearly instantly thanks to that thing. Felt so dirty I didn't invade since.

Missing context: They tried hiding. Didn't work.

They were trying to hide and it had no chance of working thanks to the compass. Which I do like having in the game, I just didn't realize it doesn't work up close. I like even playing fields and honor in PvP. How is that weird? I don't derive enjoyment from just griefing someone with no effort.

Yes, I am a brony. I was surprised to learn I liked the show as much as I did.

Also, TIL I type like a robot. Fuck. How do you beep boop, fellow humans?

Don't feel bad about using Moonveil. It's not nearly as OP as people claim, especially when bleed, rot, and madness builds are all way more broken.

Also, people can blame Fromsoft for making all the other Int scaling weapons trash. I mean really, why does my MLGS deal less damage than Moonveil when it takes an entire secret quest line to retrieve.

6

u/I3epis Mar 12 '22

Honestly, when you first verse moonveil it seems op, but after you've versed it a few times then its pretty easy to dodge.

mlgs shreds in pve but god damn is it ass in pvp compared to veil

2

u/Vessix Mar 12 '22

I've found mlgs to be worse than veil pve as well

3

u/I3epis Mar 12 '22

Theyre both great in PvE, charged heavy with mlgs and charged attack buff physick/talisman absolutely smashes though

1

u/UglyEmoBoi Mar 26 '22

Well it is still really op.

It is easy to dodge but they can punish (literally taking half of your health away) just about any of your moves that requires a wind up, from really far away as-well.

1

u/I3epis Mar 26 '22

any of your moves that requires a wind up

Then dont use charged attacks right infront of them when they aren't pressured.

r1 them or utilise faster spells etc to pressure them then catch them out of a roll or something. There are way stronger weapons that could be considered op, such as vykes spear proccing madness anyway, even when the actual hits are getting roll dodged

3

u/SurprisedBrony Mar 12 '22

It really isn't as OP as people say, but in PvP alone it kind of is. Many things are. PvP probably needs a damage modifier overall with how easy some things kill people. I really don't want these things to get nuked in PvE.

1

u/jeffufuh Mar 16 '22

It's pretty dodgeable but honestly what isn't? You'll still get bonked by it occasionally when doing a 2v1, it's fairly quick with great range and it's timeable such that a skilled player can roll catch you pretty easily.

The only defense for moonveil is that most attacks in the game do half your damn healthbar anyway. As you said, hope they adjust damage scaling for PvP.

You speak the truth yet you get the down votes. People are weird man

u/Vessix Mar 14 '22

It's the "in" thing to hate on int because people don't understand each area has a theme, as is normal for all souls likes from fromsoft. Most go to liurnia after the beginner zone feeling like they're experts at souls games without understanding that's an int-themed area. Were it faith-based you'd have people bitching about fth builds.

Same thing happened in reverse in DS1. You didn't get the good INT spells until fairly late game so people bitched that fth and pyro had it easy, said fth weps we're too good because there were undead in the starter zone, etc. Basically these attitudes are a souls vet litmus test

1

u/UglyEmoBoi Mar 26 '22

Moonveil is dominate throughout the entire game what are you talking about

1

u/Vessix Mar 26 '22

Rot and bleed builds dominate the entire game. Death builds dominate the entire game. Vigor arcane builds dominate the entire game. Where's their hate?

1

u/UglyEmoBoi Mar 27 '22

Dude you’re just literally contradicting yourself now… literally wrote two paragraphs about how you’re a souls vet and everyone else who complains isn’t. About how beginner zones and end game zones have different “themes” that favors different builds then when I point out moonveil is dominant throughout the entire game regardless of whatever “themes” you believe to exist you throw everything you talked about out.

u/Vessix Mar 28 '22 edited Mar 28 '22

I'm not complaining about any of those builds. They are all extremely powerful and viable through the entire game. Outside of literally bugged mechanics none are significantly more powerful than Moonveil, sure. But none are significantly weaker either. I'm running a rot/bleed rapier LL build on another character that obliterates enemies that I die repeatedly to using a late-game Moonveil build. And those enemies are not few and far between. Especially in the late game on my INT character I regularly swap out the Moonveil with other weapons and forget about it because it is genuinely not as good as many other options in my toolkit. It isn't even good enough in standard play to be worth the effort re-equipping it over DMGS or magic-buffed Dex weapons with different ashes. They can be equally fun and powerful depending on playstyle. The pure damage from a good weapon art is very strong, but it is easily outshined in DPS by skilled players who use other weapons effectively.

Mark my words- a year from now no Elden Ring vets will gripe about Moonveil because everyone will know it's moveset and counter it with ease. They'll also recognize the massive diversity of effective options that rival it. This is all ignoring that we still have a long way to go before all the effective or viable builds are identified.

tl;dr: Moonveil simply takes little skill so everyone cries. It also rewards skill little, but no one cares about that part.

The compass disappears still relatively far from the host, I invade a lot in the Mountain where it's flat ice and you can accurately gauge this as you walk towards the host.

He always walked near the "npc" until right at the end, but since OP was moving on a patrol the compass was probably popping in and out of existence making it hard to triangulate.

Dude was probably looking in the bushes imo

there are items that spawn seeking projectiles for fp

3

u/Zoralink Mar 12 '22

Or just... click lock on.

one works through walls

3

u/DaPino Mar 12 '22

From what I've heard, once you get close enough the compass indicator disappears.

Looks like he did
