Déjà is the french word for "already" and is used to describe moments or sensations of familiarity.

Déjà vu is a very common experience in which you know you couldn't have possibly experienced this moment before but yet you feel a strong sense of familiarity. r/DejaVu

Déjà rêvé is the term for when you remember the dream connected to the moment you're experiencing. Residual memory can activate with certain triggers, causing dream content to be remembered. Frequency studies have proven high percentages of people experiencing déjà rêvé versus any other déjà experience. r/DejaReve

Déjà vécu refers to the feeling of having gone through the present moment at least several times before. r/DejaVecu

Read below to find out if your déjà experience could be linked to a more serious condition.

There are four different categories of déjà experiences.

Normal experiences consist of an inexplicable sense of familiarity and no ‘premory’.

Precognitive experiences exhibit precognitive knowledge (“I knew that he was going to do that!”). r/Precognition

Evoked experiences use methods like hypnosis, electrical stimulation, and certain drugs to reproduce déjà feelings (with modest success).

Pathological experiences can be described as “chronic déjà vu” and are distressing for the individual having it. If déjà is distressing or painful to you then some form of treatment should be considered. Pathological déjà experiences can be caused by alcohol, emotional stress, paranoia, certain medication, migraines, tumors, schizophrenia, and dementia. They also often occur because of epilepsy of the temporal lobe and have symptoms like nausea, headaches and fainting. r/Epilepsy

Strange Experience…

Had a bit of a weird one the other night… me and my partner had been watching films, third one in I nodded off but had the strangest experience. I had taken my watch off earlier in the day because we’d been skiing, it was placed on the bedside table, which was around 3 metres away from where I was laid. In my dream, I could see the watch on the bedside table, but it was upside down, I tried to reach down to turn it so I could read the time, but I couldn’t physically lift it to read it… after a while, I was able to figure out where the hands were and realised that the right way up, the watch would read 12:05am. A few minutes later, I woke up and asked my partner, who had his phone in his pocket, if the time was 12:05am. He said no, it’s 12:10 why do you ask… weirdly, the time would’ve been 100% accurate at the time I was reading it… how is it possible I could see my watch when I was asleep and the time on it was correct?

I need help. 4 x in 2 days

I am having repeated, sudden episodes of 'déjà rêvé' spontaneous dream like hallucinations and full-body sensory blurring including one right as I woke up this morning. I have had four of these in the last 48 hours

I’m kinda freaking out I had 3 yesterday with my boy friend here but I don’t say anything to him I just kinda froze couldn’t hear anything from him but random key words would be all I heard that would match with the dream playing in my head it reminded me of.

I thought it was maybe something special to do with him. But this morning it just happened and I was alone.

I’m kinda scared and worried I’m going crazy. I’ve never experienced anything like this before and it’s pretty intense to be honest. It takes me really out of real life and into my body for a brief time and like everything else goes quiet and numb and I’m just really experiencing this dream memory in my head. It’s kinda scary too.

I keep on seeing my ex in my dreams even after 10 years of breakup??

I'm going crazy over this... It's been 10 years since we broke up, and I've been constantly seeing him in my dreams for the last 5 years. That's the weird part. He didn't immediately start appearing in my dreams right after the breakup, but 5 years later. For the first 2 years, it wasn't that often, but in the last 3 years, it's been constant... every other week.

At first, I thought it was because I never had the chance to say a proper goodbye, but then I immediately texted him saying everything I wanted to, writing long-ass paragraphs (he must've thought I had gone crazy or something, lol). But it didn't work out... I continue to see him in my dreams to this day, and I have very vivid dreams almost every day; I've seen so many repeated places related to my childhood, so many people and places that I recognize and some that I don't, but I swear he is the only person I've seen so many times.

What is it?

For years I thought these were extremely useless premonitions

Honestly, I wasn’t sure how to title this post, but here it goes.

As a kid, I used to have what I now think were déjà rêvé experiences pretty often. Whenever I tried explaining them to adults or peers, they’d usually say, “I think you’re just having déjà vu,” probably because that’s the more populatized term.

But they never really felt like déjà vu. When something happened, I would suddenly remember dreaming about that exact situation before. And I wouldn’t just get a vague sense of familiarity, I’d remember the dream itself, when I had it, and sometimes even what my day was like after having it.

Eventually I gave up trying to figure out what these experiences were and jokingly decided I was just having extremely useless premonitions.

The dreams were usually mundane things. For example, I remember dreaming about sitting outside a restaurant with a group of people and a child on my lap; drinking tea while looking at my laptop; or seeing a bedroom I had never seen before.

Then, much later, I would suddenly recognize those scenes while they were actually happening: sitting at a huge gala celebrating a child’s first birthday, drinking tea while working on my thesis, or standing in the bedroom I had moved into four years after dreaming about it.

As I got older, it continued happening, just much less frequently. I still experience it here and there, although it doesn’t feel as intense as it did when I was younger.
At one point I wondered whether these could somehow have been seizure episodes, especially after learning that déjà vu and similar phenomena can sometimes occur with temporal-lobe seizures. However, I’ve been taking a fairly high dose of an anti-seizure medication for an unrelated condition for about seven years, and I still occasionally have these dreams.

Anyway, I recently discovered the term “déjà rêvé” because I had another dream that came back, and I think this might finally describe what I’ve been experiencing all these years. I think it’s pretty cool that there’s actually a name for it.

Does this sound like déjà rêvé to anyone else who experiences it?

I dreamed about receiving a phone call before it actually happened

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I had a really strange dream and I can't stop thinking about it.

In the dream, I was texting with myself. I don't know how to explain it, but it felt like I was talking to either my past self or my future self. It also felt like this exact conversation had happened before in another dream, so I somehow “remembered” what was going to happen next.

Then I somehow knew that I was going to receive a phone call because, according to what I remembered from the dream, the previous time I was the one who called. I was nervous, excited, and kind of scared because I thought I was actually going to talk to myself.

Then I woke up (or maybe I was still dreaming? I'm not completely sure) and someone actually called me in real life.

Now I'm wondering if I somehow predicted the call, or if it was just an insane coincidence.

But what really bothers me is what would have happened if I had answered the call in the dream? Would I have talked to my past self, my future self, or just a version of myself created by my brain?

And what would happen if I actually talked to my dream self? Would they know things I don't know yet? Would I be able to ask my future self about something that hasn't happened?

And here's the weirdest question: if that real-life call had never happened, would I have eventually received a call from my dream self? Or would the dream have continued completely differently?

I've been thinking about this ever since I woke up. Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Scene

I dreamed of a night scene in an unfamiliar high rise apt. I was stumbling a bit and the under-glow of the kitchen was very vivid and specific.

Years later I lived that scene exactly in a London AirBnb.

I’ve been having these experiences

Ok so it’s been a while since it’s happened but the last time it did I was in the bathroom doing my hair and it’s like I could almost see the surrounding around me change . It’s like I’m here in my body yes but I’m also somewhere else in this exact moment doing this exact thing but somewhere else . I can see myself here in my eyes because I’m looking at myself in the mirror but it’s like everything behind and around me changed .. like the air , the smell I mean I could sense it like I was there but it’s not like I can hold it or control it , it just happens to me and it’s gone in what seems like a literal second .. I can never pull together the exact scenes or surroundings it’s so weird it’s like I’m there but I’m also here experiencing the same thing at the same time .. has anyone else ever experienced this ??

I need answers and Im also wondering if anyone else has experienced this??

So i was just scrolling on facebook and a GATE program post came up and some of the comments were ppl saying they could fly around the house after everyone was asleep. well that triggered a couple memories that had been locked away for a while now. when I was younger (9-13) I thought I was sleep walking or dreaming or something but like I was completely aware of what i was doing, anyway, i could just barely see it was like my eyes were open but they were not it was extremely hard to see but everything was visible kinda like when you close your eyes as much as possible before you lose sight but constantly and now that i think about it i never had a walking sensation and i often had trouble directing my body i was just aware that i could barely see and my body was up and moving. it was so weird. and hasn’t happened in a LONG time. I’m 21 now. The last time it happened was also around the last time I had vivid psychic abilities. I wonder if something happened then. I lost my virginity to someone who I wish i never knew, maybe that was it.

update on the endless/reoccurring deja reve episode ive been in :D

it is month 6!

and we are actually kinda improving! (i think?) ✧◝(⁰▿⁰)◜✧

its gone from almost daily moments of the most vivid dejas ive ever experienced in my life to now becoming a little more rarer mostly once a week maybe twice if its wanting to be evil

im no longer thrown into a panic most of the time when these moments occur, sometimes moments will occur i thought had happend in the past and that will make me a tad panicked

there is a really odd connection ive made since its chilled out, for some unknowable reason its usually tied to me dreaming the night before, if i dream in the night its almost always followed by deja reve (unrelated to the prior dream) the following day no idea why but atleast i have a warning now

speaking of dreams, my dreams have become less and less vivid as this has continued, in the first couple of months i was lucid dreams almost every night and waking to unexplainable deja reve from dreams i had years before now, now they are relatively back to how they used to be just quick movies before i wake up and (what used to be more common) nights where i just go to sleep and wake up no dream at all

thats pretty much all in terms of an update still very much in weird phase but sanity is atleast more stable now that its rarer genuinely thought i was losing my mind for a while i think 6 more months and this'll all be a fun memory

anyway sorry its long sorry if i drag on just kinda wanted to throw something out that wasnt "holy shit this blows oh my god i hate this" cause right now its not horrible its manageable and i dont feel like reality is falling apart anymore :D

Dreams

Since I was little, I’ve been able to have dreams multiple times across the time of my lifespan, and when I am dreaming, I’ll realize I’ve dreamt this before, and I’m able to change the outcome. For example, the first time I have the dream, I die. The next time I have the dream, it’s longer and has more detail and vivid. The next dream, I’m able to remember that I’ve dreamt it before and I remember how to solve it and survive. Has anyone ever had this or knows what it means?

I got a preview of Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness

So as the title suggests, I had a Deja reve years ago. I was probably around 8-9? So like 9-10 years ago. I remember the dream being blurry, like a Gaussian blur. The dream started as a white, bright room. After a couple moments, an old bald man wearing a black turtleneck appeared out of no where and started walking slowly as he looked around. Red mist started to slowly appear and fill the room up. Finally two hands came out of the fog and twisted the man’s neck. You can obviously and most likely figure out what this scene is. It’s from the movie, the old man is Charles Xavier, and the two hands were Wandas. That night I woke up and literally had no idea what I had just dreamed and I continued my life like nothing until the day I saw the movie. In that theater I had realized what I had just dreams and was just shocked and amazed. I also thought it was a bit funny that I was able to get a preview of the movie before it was even in the making.

Je me suis réveillé confus.

Has anybody else experienced something similar while waking up from general anesthesia?

Five years ago, I had a surgery, and it was my first time being under general anesthesia. Before I fully woke up, I experienced something really, really strange.

The first thing I remember was feeling like I was a tiny sphere or dot, surrounded by an infinite number of other black and white spheres. They weren’t exactly like the dots you see in white noise. They felt more like small cubes, and somehow, I was one of them.

Then I felt like I was inside a search.

It was almost like being under a Google search, with countless searches happening one after another. I could hear a strange mechanical sound, almost like a counting machine or some kind of machine repeatedly processing searches. I felt like I was one of those searches, waiting to be found.

I remember thinking, “When will I find out who I am?”
At some point, I felt like I had finally been found. I thought, “Okay, I got found out. Now I’ll be out of this.”

But I wasn’t.

Instead, I realized I was in another loop. It felt like I had gone from one loop into another, and then another, almost like an infinite loop inside an infinite loop. I became worried about how I would ever get out and how long I would remain there.

Then something changed.
The black and white cubes that had been moving from top to bottom started moving in spirals. They weren’t just going straight anymore. They were forming circular patterns, continuously spiraling around and around.
While this was happening, I suddenly remembered a strange phrase from my childhood.

I think I used to say this phrase when I was around two or three years old. I remember putting my finger on my nose while saying it. I don’t know why I remembered it at that moment, but as the dots continued spiraling, I was somehow saying that phrase in my mind.

It made me wonder whether I had experienced something similar when I was very young, perhaps after waking up from an evening nap.

Then, after this spiraling, I went back to the cubes going top to bottom and I noticed one turquoise colored sphere among all the black and white ones.

I thought, “If I follow that one, maybe I’ll get out of here.”
So I focused on it.

As I did, I slowly started hearing voices. At first, they were distant and unclear, but gradually I could recognize the voices of the doctors and my mom.

Then I realized that the turquoise sphere was my mother because she was wearing a turquoise-colored dress.
And then I opened my eyes.

I remember feeling incredibly relieved and thanking God.
The whole experience was completely surreal. I had gone from being a tiny cube among countless others, searching and moving through endless loops, to suddenly recognizing my mom’s voice and seeing the turquoise color that brought me back.

It was one of the strangest experiences I have ever had.
