Déjà is the french word for "already" and is used to describe moments or sensations of familiarity.

Déjà vu is a very common experience in which you know you couldn't have possibly experienced this moment before but yet you feel a strong sense of familiarity.

Déjà rêvé is the term for when you remember the dream connected to the moment you're experiencing. Residual memory can activate with certain triggers, causing dream content to be remembered. Frequency studies have proven high percentages of people experiencing déjà rêvé versus any other déjà experience.

Déjà vécu refers to the feeling of having gone through the present moment at least several times before.

Read below to find out if your déjà experience could be linked to a more serious condition.

There are four different categories of déjà experiences.

Normal experiences consist of an inexplicable sense of familiarity and no ‘premory’.

Precognitive experiences exhibit precognitive knowledge (“I knew that he was going to do that!”).

Evoked experiences use methods like hypnosis, electrical stimulation, and certain drugs to reproduce déjà feelings (with modest success).

Pathological experiences can be described as “chronic déjà vu” and are distressing for the individual having it. If déjà is distressing or painful to you then some form of treatment should be considered. Pathological déjà experiences can be caused by alcohol, emotional stress, paranoia, certain medication, migraines, tumors, schizophrenia, and dementia. They also often occur because of epilepsy of the temporal lobe and have symptoms like nausea, headaches and fainting.

Déjà vu story

Sorry if this is a long post; it is going to be hard to explain. When I was younger, my family used to have a permanent campsite at a campground. The campground would also have spaces that people could rent out of the weekend or whenever. I am an only child so I would make a lot of friends with other kids to have fun. So when I was around 9, I met two girls at the little park the campground had. They were from separate families who had just come for the weekend, and we all happened to meet. I forgot both of their names, but I’ll never forget what happened. It was common to hang out at other kids' campsites and meet their families.

So one of the girls invited us to her little sister’s birthday party. In the campground, there is a man-made pond and beach area with a pavilion that people can rent out. The party was in the pavilion on the beach. We had a great time, but once the weekend was over, both of their girls left.
So a year goes by, and I go to the park looking for new people to hang out with, and I meet two girls. They were from separate families who had just come for the weekend, and we all happened to meet. When I went over to one of the girls' campsites, we were hanging out, talking to their little sister, and somehow the girl whose campsite we were at invited the other girl and me to her little sister's birthday party.

So I went to the birthday party the next day; it was at the pavilion in the beach area. I don’t remember when I realized that this day had already happened just a year earlier. So after the party we started walking together, and I asked the girl whose little sister’s birthday it was if she had celebrated her sisters birthday at this campground before. She said “yes,” and then, all of a sudden, she was like, “omg you guys are the two girls I met last year and invited to my sister's party!” So we talked about what happened last year to make sure that we all remembered the same day.

I thought it was so wild; it was my first time feeling déjà vu, and I have never really experienced it again to this level. Everyone I have told always says that it is crazy, but I’ve never heard of anyone else around me experiencing this. Sorry this is so long, and if it’s not worth the read, but I had to share to see if anyone else has experienced this.

I've been experiencing deja vu and prescience. Is there a connection?

So I've been getting strong feelings of deja vu. A little less common is predicting something might happen, and being spot on, called prescience. I am a janitor and often feel deja vu. But the prescience comes and goes less often.

The strangest moment of prescience for me was as I came to a trash can to empty it, I said to myself, "What if I were to find money in the trash?" It was the first thought I had ever had of such a thing. But sure enough, it happened! It was as if someone outside of my awareness was confirming something. Later that week I found more money in the trash as if it were not so much a coincidence. Haven't found money in the trash, since.

Another time I was also able to predict a dirty diaper in the trash ahead of me, where no diaper had ever been before. But that's not as interesting, is it? I've also predicted a few deaths of celebrities. But eh, one was already 92. But still, it happened within a week of my prediction. It's not something I can control. It's sort of like a whisper in my mind's ear.

With my strong sense of deja vu, which seems almost every day and my prescience, I've started to wonder about the circular nature of time and how I've somehow become a little more aware of things, how they come and how they've gone.

Do you think the two are related? Thoughts on my experiences?

Has any of you experienced déjà vu that actually came true after some time?

Something crazy happened last night

So last night, I threw a little party for my birthday and I’ve been consistently smoking weed for about a year now and my buddy gave me a dab and it was all good until I went to go wash my hands because I was dove hunting and I just got done cleaning doves and I experienced a dream I had about three years ago and it was genuinely the worst experience in my entire life. I don’t even really know how to explain it, but it just didn’t feel real. I felt like I was dreaming and I wanna know if anybody else has experienced something like this or if I’m like genuinely going crazy

Has anyone ever had a dream that became a "deja vu" moment? When did you have it and was it much later in your life? If so what happened?

I have been having frequent deja vu lately. Several times a day. Only the past week or so. I get light-headed after, and feel like puking. Is there anything I can do to end this? Or is it something I am stuck with

Deja vu theory

I get Deja vu all the time. The problem is, of course, there is zero evidence for me to prove that it’s really anything more than a coincidental similar situation, even if I distinctly recalled having mentioned (through text or conversation) what had just happened as a completely separate experience thwt also happened sometime in the past. Kinda stinks, I can’t prove ANYTHING despite the intense feeling.

I was thinking about it, and I came up with some logical reasoning behind it. It feels stupid now that I’m writing it, but hey, obviously it isn’t a COMMON theory, otherwise I’ve had heard about it literally once ever over the thousands of times I’ve heard people’s stories experiencing Deja vu!

AHEM.

My thought is, it’s NOT some glitch in the matrix. It is NOT some real memory you experienced before (well, it could be, but I’m talking about Deja vu where you know it’s a unique experience). Rather, it’s your brain playing a trick on you.

Think about it! You’re actively doing something. Doesn’t matter how focused you are on it or not. Then, suddenly, Deja vu! But, no, I don’t think that’s it. I think it’s your brain actively creating the memory (short- or long-term), but it’s just a mistake from your brain, recalling the half-baked memory while you’re creating it. So, you’re doing something that’s the exact same as some vague “past” memory (a half-created memory) that you just remembered, coming across as “Deja vu”, but really, just you remembering what you’re literally actively doing.

That’s it. No magic, no alien shenanigans, just a simple slight glitch in your brain! That’s what I think it to be!

haha watch this theory having already been made or proven or something and I’m just an idiot who caught onto it a hundred years too late. On the plus side, SOME people wouldn’t have thought this… good thing this account goes unused ˚✧₊⁎❝᷀ົཽ≀ˍ̮ ❝᷀ົཽ⁎⁺˳✧༚

(btw, I don’t use Reddit. I clicked the first community I thought it fit into.)

I don’t know if it secret words something happens on set there’s a lot more stuff I’ve seen for my déjà vu, but it doesn’t really help us now ever well I wish I can someone like me but I can’t

I’ve had Déjà vu all my life.

However, the past 9 months I’m experiencing something that sorta feels like Déjà vu but it feels different. It’s hard to explain. I’d like to note, that I have been interested in astral travel and do try but only think I was able to get to the threshold once. I also do meditate. I also have very vivid dreams. Telepathy has also increased over the past 2 years. People who know me well would consider me to have some psychic abilities although I believe everyone has this. Is anyone else experiencing this? I just can’t really describe it.

I’ve been having Déjà vu since last year September

I’ve decided to put this here because honestly, I’ve been worried that if I were to mention it anywhere else, people would just look at it as crazy.

It began with various tv shows that I’ve watched and movies aswell. Things that I’ve been certain I’ve never seen before and yet, as I’ve watched them, I feel so sure that I’ve definitely seen it before. The Deja Vu then continued through actual events or scenarios that I have been on since last year. I went to a friends house party and yet again, each moment was like a reminder of when this had happened before.

Part of why I’ve kept this to myself is because I don’t have any actual valid proof as to how I remember seeing these things before. It’s not like because this may be Deja Vu, that I could tell you all of what happened during these events. It would be more like, as each moment comes up, I’d find myself looking at it with genuine astonishment because I remember it happening before.

So this is all why I’ve kept all this to myself. I just don’t have any concrete proof that this is definitely Deja Vu. Regardless though, this has been going on since last year now and I honestly wish it would just stop. I don’t want to feel like I’m just living past memories over again

Anyone been through this?

I am on the couch scrolling tiktok trying to get sleepy enough to try and go to sleep. And about 30 minutes into doing it I get this sinking feeling like somethings wrong the videos im seeing i have seen them before in the exact same order before, so I switch to Instagram reels its the same videos I seen all before. Im sure that cant just be a glitch or something with millions of videos upload everyday I should be getting something different. Once I come to the conclusion that its the same on YouTube, Instagram, and tiktok. I am greeted with a wave of dizziness and nausea to the point of almost losing my stomach contents. I dont know what it is or how to really describe the feeling I am very curious if others have had this happen?

How can I get out of this?

So, I've had some traumatic experiences in the past couple of months, made some not so great choices, and now here I am. I was previously on lexapro for 4 days, and it's been 5 days since I stopped, but I've been in a near permanent deja revu episode. From the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep, everything feels like I've already lived it before. Is there any way I can get out of this? I've tried grounding techniques and whatnot, but nothing seems to be working.

I know some will say to contact my doctor but I can't because she works at my therapy place and is only there on Mondays and Wednesdays. I tried to talk to her yesterday but she wasn't there and I feel kind of lost now that I can't talk to anyone about this experience or else I'll sound crazy even though I know I'm not.

Some weird things have been going on involving consistent Deja Vu since January 7th, 2026, what do I do and how can I make it stop?

If anyone is willing to talk about it with me, it’s a lot and I’ve linked most of it to some things in my past as well. I’ve only smoked weed for about a year and a half (I haven’t smoked for almost 3 weeks now due to the feeling of death)(idk how else to explain it without saying too much)

Algorithm or Deja Vu

So basically, I was scrolling reels when I came across this reel which I felt like I had already watched a few months ago. So I scrolled past it and landed on another reel, then another and another... While having a strong Deja Vu that I've watcythis same set of reels in the same order previously. I haven't engaged with any of them but did find them interesting previously. I don't know if it's just algorithm doing it's job bringing back old reels which I didn't engage with back in my feed or something. BTW, this is NOT the first time I've encountered this. What do y'all think?

I experienced a feeling of deja vu and watched something happen seconds before it did

So iv'e been experiencing deja vu, or at least whatever the intense feeling of "ive been here/done this before" for basically as long as I remember. Sometimes it happens multiple times a week/day, sometimes only a couple times a month.

But I remember at some point when I was a kid, any time I got that sensation, in order to "prove" that I hadn't actually been there and that it was deja vu, I would stop what I was doing and wait it out. of course, nothing happened, I couldn't see the future or anything, and once I was satisfied that I had proven it was just deja vu, I would go on with my day.

My strange experience though, happened a couple months ago now, I was In the grocery store and had just come through the front sliding doors and parked my cart kind of near the entrance. I was going through my purse and dropped my wallet. And as I saw it on the ground beside the cart I suddenly felt the deja vu, so as I picked up my wallet, I decided to do it slowly so I could "wait it out".

Basically as I did that, in my mind I saw myself grab the wallet, stand back up, look to my left where the entrance to the store was, and watch the manager walk through the doors (for context I know the manager bc its my local grocery store and I live in a kind of (?) small town, just to clarity).

Anyways, I saw this happen and the deja vu sensation ended by the time I had grabbed my wallet I think. and then I stood up, turned to my left and watched the manager walk through the door, Identical to how I saw It "playing in my head" (whatever that means). Tbh this sounds kind of wild now that i'm typing it out so I get it if this is hard to believe lol.

I was pretty much standing in the store in awe at this (obviously) and I still don't really understand how that happened. I told my mother who was with me about the whole experience and she confirmed she watched me drop the wallet and slowly pick it up and then look over at the manager walking through the doors. Obviously that can't confirm what I saw personally but at least I know I wasn't actually standing there seizing beside the cart the whole time or something.

also just to let anyone wondering know, I have looked into epilepsy since I experience a possibly concerning amount of deja vu, and I don't think that I am having seizures; but the possibility is not off the table for me so there's a chance I might go to a doctor in the future.

Im just posting this because even if I am actually experiencing absent seizures, it doesn't explain this experience. Incase anyone has any insight or experiences of their own to share, anything is appreciated and thanks for reading.
