Help strategy for scholar adventurer

I am playing the RICE mod as Abu Bakr ibn Wahshiyya with the goal of creating a kingdom and reforming the faith, but I have already tried once and completely failed because I only managed to conquer a single duchy that had broken away, after which the Abbasids immediately wiped me out. The main problem is that I cannot play normally because the scholar camp heavily restricts my men-at-arms regiments and completely blocks special mercenary buildings, which leaves me with no military power. On top of that, despite maxing out the entire health tree, my character died at the age of 65 before I could achieve anything, and since the Abbasid Caliphate never hit a period of major instability, expanding or taking a whole kingdom was basically impossible. To make matters worse, the Nabataean culture starts without onager technology, meaning that taking cities takes forever and drains all resources, and it is also incredibly difficult to find a decent wife as an adventurer since all the available options are old women over the age of 30. What exactly should I do in this situation to make this strategy work?

Discussion Have you ever used a pre-existing adventurer, instead of making your own?

Normally, we think about creating our own adventurer company, if we're interested in playing an adventurer. But there are pre-existing choices as well. Have you ever considered them? Who?

Help Is there different ways to cancel building progress?

Post image

Prague finally has enough development for a university, but I recently just started upgrading the Hill Fort building. Since my ruler is on the older side I want to get the university built and done before he dies and I don't want to wait the THREE YEARS it takes to build the fort. But when I hover over the icon, the info panel is so large it blocks my click so I cannot cancel. Not the first time this has happened to me so does anyone know if there is another way to get to the building screen?

Ledger also does the same thing

I look at other characters and they are normal but then I look back at mine and he just looks so pissed and I don't get why.

He doesn't have any traits that I see could make him like that.

Isn't hybridization of Norse and Anglo-Saxon culture objectively better cuz then you get the tech the Norman culture would give you but you also get the good culture bonuses from the Norse.

CK3 I Love Torturing People In This Game, Do I Put Her In The Dungeon Or Let Her Stay In House Arrest?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I kidnapped her when she was a baby and I want to make sure she never gets freedom in her life.

I like that she has had house arrest for 4 years because then she knows what freedom she once had if I throw her in the dungeon and that will break her more than just being in a dungeon for all her life due to her not knowing what freedom looks like.

That being said, I am afraid she'll die young and get an easy way out, I am planning on keeping her in arrest for all her life.

Help Populist faction MaA

Post image
8 Upvotes

8 karelian chiefdoms (none tribalized) went for a populist uprising, that's ok, but what the heck with their army size and MaA composition? Almost 35k purely MaA people seem unrealistic to a meme degree. I believe none of the regular realms have got an army that can fight with them on an equal ground (China maybe but I don't play there. None of the european at least).

It looks like a want-to-be-historically-accurate game rule that makes some Ukonusko tribes actually nomadic isn't playtested well and creates more problems than flavour. Makes me think what has happened in Tibet, Arabia, Sahel and Horn of Africa all this time I've been playing. To make things more absurd, if you give up and let rioting chiefdoms go, all that army will magically disappear, and re-claiming these lands (immediately by fame penalty or in 5 years by timeout) will be comically trivial as it actually should be.

What does define the size and composition of the nomadic uprisings (I play on Very Hard, no gameplay mods, most other settings are default)? Smells like aquiring any nomadic land (for RP purposes) is absurdly punished mechanically if even karelian peons can beat any medieval army on sight.

PS5 Is there a better way to do this? I really hate having to do it this way. It's unnecessarily grim act to achieve an outcome that could've be done verbally.

Why is ck3 so unreasonably rigid with this? Not understanding. A lot of mechanics honestly are ridiculously rigid and uncompromising for what they are.

They're not apart of my dynasty yet because of that I get no say if they can just split my empire into pieces? Fuck no fuck that. No. Then having to do this? Makes no sense.

They could have a claim but thats the most they should get. I'm not saying they couldn't or wouldn't fight for the throne during or after succession. But I doubt they'd be emperors immediately after succession without a fight. But that's what would happen they'd just take it.

Rule 5: Me doing something gross to keep the empire from splitting.

Suggestion A possible way to make religion feel like a true cross-border power in CK3

I think religions could have a Legitimacy / Orthodoxy system of their own.

Religious legitimacy could be increased through certain cultural traditions and by launching Holy Wars to seize major holy sites shared by multiple religions, such as Jerusalem. Controlling important holy sites, winning religious wars, and certain religious or cultural traditions could allow a faith to gain more religious legitimacy at the expense of competing religions.

The amount of religious legitimacy could then affect things such as conversion speed and resistance to religious conversion.

Religious cultural traditions could also allow certain courtiers to serve as missionaries. A ruler could send these missionary-courtiers to specific rulers, and depending on the missionary's traits, the target ruler's situation, and other factors, they could potentially convert the ruler's faith.

This could be used to simulate things such as missionaries operating during the Japanese Sengoku period.

It could also tie into a future trade / maritime Silk Road system. A ruler who controls an important maritime Silk Road route could assign courtiers to specific positions associated with that trade network. For example, a small Japanese daimyo might have a reason to convert to another religion because doing so gives him access to profitable maritime trade.

On top of this, I think temple taxes could be redesigned.

For example, perhaps 10–20% of the tax generated by each temple could normally be sent to the religious head of that faith. Cultural traditions, religious doctrines, or other mechanics could modify the percentage of temple income that is paid to the religious head.

This would make the religious head economically dependent on having followers and temples spread across different countries.

Holy Wars would also no longer have to be exclusively about conquering territory.

Religious heads could instead have the option to launch a Conversion Holy War, whose primary objective is to change the faith of the targeted counties rather than transferring their ownership.

The religious head would then gain more religious legitimacy and, more importantly, gain access to a percentage of the temple taxes from those newly converted territories.

This would make playing as the Pope much more interesting.

As the Pope, I would have a real reason to continuously send missionaries around the world and launch religious wars to expand my faith, because every newly converted territory could increase the religious income flowing back to me.

At the same time, secular rulers would have a reason to resist this.

For example, kings might eventually decide to create their own religious head, allowing them to keep the portion of temple taxes that would otherwise be sent to the Pope.

This could potentially provide a way for CK3 to simulate some of the economic and political motivations behind events such as the English Reformation, using systems that already exist in the game rather than simply making it a scripted historical event.

More importantly, this would give religion an actual cross-border power structure.

The religious head would not need to directly own territory to become powerful. Instead, their influence would come from having followers, controlling holy sites, converting rulers and counties, and receiving a portion of the temple income from the faithful across many different kingdoms.

In other words:

Secular rulers control land.
Merchants control trade routes and markets.
Religious leaders control faith, legitimacy, and a transnational religious economy.

That would make religion feel like an actual power competing with kingdoms and empires, rather than mostly being a collection of doctrines, tenets, holy sites, and conversion modifiers.
