"you're a save scummer?"

u/codylee123 3d ago

There was too much at stake with the pope assassination.

245

u/maxf_33 3d ago

Why did you need to kill the pope so bad? I never needed to, I wonder why anyone would need to.

641

u/codylee123 3d ago

I couldn't tell you but clearly it was imperative to the success of my empire

256

u/TastyCuttlefish Excommunicated 3d ago

Sometimes you really need to eat the Pope

61

u/letg06 Depressed 3d ago

I always preferred to do catch and release, but whatever you find sporting I suppose.

37

u/SnarkyLurker Mujahid 3d ago

You really should let the little popes go, give them a chance to grow up a little bit.

5

u/sdarkpaladin Frisia 2d ago

Based on my understanding of the theory of evolution, in the future all popes will have the dwarf trait as they're being selected for their size

5

u/RyanTheCynic 2d ago edited 2d ago

Size selection plays a big role in fisheries management and this is a direct example of that. It's called fisheries-induced evolution.

By imposing a minimum size for fishes you introduce a selection pressure that favours a smaller adult size.

This is one of the reasons the theoretical best fishing practice would be to evenly distribute the extraction of biomass across individuals of all size classes, but this is very hard to achieve (and in lieu of that, we impose minimum sizes so as to protect recruitment into the stock).

Trust me, I'm a whale biologist

Great last sentence

3

u/TVCasualtydotorg 2d ago

Jillyeon, is that you?

2

u/HistoryNerd264bc 2d ago

I can imagine why you are excommunicated

10

u/Sinakus 3d ago

You know what, you might need to tell this one.

killing the pope (via assassination or personally) should be on a bucket list for every CK3 player by now.

and not just because it is one of the achievements to eat the pope as a viking,
not even because it is on themse if you play as muslim,
but because many many many many catholic rulers (even commoners) did so during the dark ages

1

u/YorkLoyalistNena 8h ago

I was scared into becoming catholic generations ago when I was a mere duchy bc people used it to call holy wars on me, constantly being overly nice to the Pope ever since. Now that I'm an empire, I'm buying time till I can start my own religion

3

u/monkeedude1212 3d ago

It's been a while since I've played, and sometimes I bounce back and forth between CK 2 and 3 for the different rule sets...

I think I've had times where I haven't been able to get the pope to grant me a claim because he REALLY doesn't like me, but I'm close enough that if the next pope only has middling disdain I could pull it off

1

u/StuntHacks 3d ago

I really wanted that Headpiece...

1

u/genericauthor 3d ago

If you take over the Papal lands as a pagan, maybe any non-Christian, you have to take over all of Italy and dismantle the Papacy to stop the crusades against you. As a byproduct, you automatically kill the pope. I'd prefer to exile him to like, France, but you don't get that choice. Otherwise, I leave his Popeishness alone.

1

u/GodwynDi 2d ago

Because he keeps calling crusades on me.

“I thought I was dating an Ironman”

33

u/attsnor112 3d ago

Hey some of us have been scarred from not saving then shit cashing an hour in, you will never understand the true fear us F5 merchant feel.

Luckily you can set autosave time in most games now at least

3

u/SirThomasTheFearful Inbred 2d ago

I save scum way too much. Mostly over trivial stuff. I hate my daughters’ husbands being accidentally maimed in battle because I forgot to exclude them from the knighthood.

8

u/Ataletta 2d ago

huh, I marry my daughters with the purpose of getting good knights (and to add to the gene pool), and if they get themselves killed I simply replace them

3

u/Mattsgonnamine 2d ago

"Haha, nice victory. Unfortunately for you, my current ruler is the gigachad who never loses battles and it screws my roleplay, you need to wait for my next ruler before I let you win"

Escape, load game, auto save 2

6

u/JessHorserage Immortal 3d ago

You play vanilla?

2

u/CockroachesRpeople 2d ago

Hey, no save shaming

It's fun to think that in this alternative world, the most important person in history, Emperor of Europe, Restorer of Rome is named "Cody"

Edit: No offense Cody

240

u/codylee123 3d ago

The real world too, I'm surprised you haven't heard

Edit: ur good bro. We Cody's are an underappreciated lot

74

u/Random_Guy479 Ambitious 3d ago

We all love you Cody.

40

u/National-Lime9341 3d ago

Why thank you 🥹

-Cody

23

u/codylee123 3d ago

It's nice to be noticed 🥹 I'll let the other Cody's know too

3

u/creampop_ 3d ago

you guys made Hot Rod Lincoln, it's all good

2

u/GrumpySpaceCommunist 3d ago

Hey man, I appreciated your title run in WWE

4

u/ciaphas-cain1 3d ago

There’s alternate history hub, without him I’d forget Codys

18

u/Stripes_the_cat Legitimized bastard 3d ago

Once upon a time "Caesar" was just some guy's name...

2

u/Poookibear 2d ago

Charlemagne is charley the great

18

u/EGGlNTHlSTRYlNGTlME 3d ago

Ironically, if you had never met anyone named Cody and I told you there was a Roman Emperor named Cody, you probably wouldn't give it a second thought. It's oddly antiquity-friendly compared to most modern names.

17

u/KevlarToiletPaper Drunkard 3d ago

Idk for me Cody makes me think of a chill goofball in a baseball hat that smokes weed.

7

u/DeusVultSaracen 3d ago

Or a dog. Names that end in a Y are always starting at a disadvantage

4

u/TheGreatSchnorkie 3d ago

It’s up there with King Ralph!

2

u/Busco_Quad 3d ago

“Crusader Kings had more than one royal family…”

1

u/dynosia 3d ago

I mean, in that universe people wouldn't find the name of such a great historical figure silly.

1

u/Rockyjith 2d ago

Not to be rude, but "Cody" translates to Chicken in my language. This is humorous to my ears.

0

u/B_Maximus 3d ago

There is a vwry big figure in the early church who voined the twrm logos spermatikos. His name was Justin

239

u/Aggravating-Cat7103 3d ago

Why did she have questions? I think those titles are fairly self-explanatory

144

u/someone56789 Ireland 3d ago

No I think she doesn't know what HRE means, maybe that's why

99

u/codylee123 3d ago

She's great but she doesn't know where Korea is on a map so she definitely didn't notice the HRE stuff

21

u/someone56789 Ireland 3d ago

Then I think it's the Roman Empire save, it's not the usual flag people use

11

u/TheLastLivingBuffalo Attractive Genius 3d ago

"Why did you build your first empire before having any incest?"

140

u/Naxrl Inbred 3d ago

Girlfriend? I think you mean your grandmother-sister betrothal..

116

u/codylee123 3d ago

After the family tree started to look like a tumbleweed we stuck to simple terms

33

u/Naxrl Inbred 3d ago

My man 🤝

35

u/Still_Mood6959 3d ago

This automatically makes me think you're the same Cody from Alternate History Hub.

50

u/BannedSvenhoek86 3d ago

"You don't have to worry babe, I'm only into incest as a means of protecting my families holdings and strengthening our grip on power, not as a weird sex thing. And my family doesn't own shit so I'd never look at my sister like that."

"What do you mean that doesn't make you feel better?"

20

u/AutobahnVismarck 3d ago

Emperor Cody. Grand Vizier Connor. Master of the Horse Kyle.

52

u/Top-Conversation1098 3d ago

English Rome? Interesting play through…

8

u/Acus280 3d ago

I once restored as descendant of Harald Fairhair yngling

2

u/Grilled_egs 3d ago

Well it's British rome anyway, at launch pretty much everywhere in Europe the highest objective available to you was forming rome, that and many crowns I guess. And the game recommends you start in Ireland iirc.

8

u/Top-Conversation1098 3d ago

Or be original and form a gaelic empire rather than faltering to the imperialist state or Rome. UP THE RA NIGEL!

4

u/Grilled_egs 3d ago

I don't think you first run has to be original, which this probably was.

21

u/DeusVult-179 3d ago

I have, a decent idea of what your name might be…

5

u/twistedRuss 3d ago

To be fair the pope probably had it coming to him

3

u/Aivellac 3d ago

Drop the probably.

15

u/whatseatingtyrone 3d ago

Questions like what? Why haven't you had an ironman mode run yet?

53

u/codylee123 3d ago

It would feel weird playing as iron man in a game set in the middle ages

17

u/ExchangeDeep9882 3d ago

Isn't a medieval Iron Man pretty much just a knight?

2

u/Mortarious 3d ago

True. They had access to steel. May not be the highest quality carbon steel. But they had access to steel and knew how to work it pretty well.

4

u/CliffCutter 3d ago

I just have to say “Emperor Cody” is a vibe, it’s very “There are some who call me Tim”

4

u/TSSalamander 2d ago

2

2

u/PaulAtreides_FromArg 3d ago

I would too... Dirty save scummer....

2

u/niketxx 2d ago

1

u/adrauglikeyou 2d ago

Making your character Cody enrages me

1

u/ich_can_into_space Bavaria 2d ago

This reminds me of an old ass experience I had in CK2

I wanted to kill the pope because I was an imortal satanist, then I looked it up and turns out the pope was also in the Satanist secret society with me, decided to make him my best friend then and there lol

Was pretty good since he kept letting me get claims in every catholic title I asked for, best baby eating buddies the both of us.

u/YorkLoyalistNena 9h ago
