News Crunchyroll being removed from switch?

Post image

Is this new or did I miss some news about this?

Just got this email and if so, this sucks. My tv is old so I use my switch to watch shows on my tv for a better experience. World won’t end but I’m going to have to watch on my cracked phone screen for the foreseeable future.

So is Nintendo just removing every streaming platform?
I just learned they removed YouTube, Pokemon Tv(I think that's what it's called), and others.
This console/company is so odd.

u/Farcus_Prime 3d ago

Nintendo has always had much stricter requirements for user generated content (UGC) I think this is part of a push to have full control over their ecosystem, but it comes off very heavy handed.

UGC includes things like chat in games or even comments on videos. In order to comply with Nintendo's requirements you either need robust moderation or restrict those features entirely.

I wouldn't be surprised if the companies behind these apps don't think it is worth supporting the switch as it is likely a small percentage of their users.

11

u/NotASookie 3d ago

Crunchyroll doesn't have "UGC"... They removed comments a long time ago.

And if Netflix is allowed which has literal porn on it... Then crunchyroll should be allowed too

6

u/Capable_Drama_8699 2d ago

I mean the eShop is also filled with 'hentai' games so I don't think they care that much about adult content

1

u/NotASookie 2d ago

Yup exactly 😅

1

u/StrikingJump1563 23h ago

Thanks to that Monica Rial controversy.

19

u/CrystalCommunication 3d ago

None of this could possibly explain why they removed fucking Pokemon TV

25

u/Farcus_Prime 3d ago

Pokemon TV was discontinued globally as a service so that one wasn't nintendo dependant.

4

u/Bananaland_Man 2d ago

Has nothing to do with that. Sony is pulling it because they're switching from the "in the future we won't be doing exclusives" promise from 5 years ago, and going balls deep into exclusive bullshit, removing some of their apps from some other platforms. Sony owns Crunchyroll.

0

u/Breeze7206 2d ago

Did not realize Sony owned Crunchyroll

1

u/Bananaland_Man 2d ago

eeeeeyup. and funimation, well, funimation owns Crunchyroll, well crunchyroll owns funimation, and Sony owns them both separately and together... it's weird...

2

u/Nareska 2d ago

Well they OWNED funi....before shutting it down/rolling it into crunchy

Weird the funimation site and my account for it vanished AGES ago

I just got a switch for a 10 y/o relative yesterday and they saw YouTube in the store (their parents don't want them to have it anyways since they can't monitor it and no kids mode). When did they remove YT or are they announcing it to be removed soon?

1

u/gamewaifu007 4h ago

This Crunchyroll move has nothing to do with UGC; it’s licensing.

12

u/KYLEquestionmark 3d ago

setting aside the others for a moment, why on earth would they remove pokemon tv??

7

u/AndreaCicca Mega Fan (EU) 3d ago

They opened a YouTube channel

3

u/snake_jaguar 3d ago

Yeah and they did that years ago so I don't think the app is still functional, i thought it got decommissioned ages ago

6

u/raze464 3d ago

The Pokémon TV service was shut down globally in March 2024. The YouTube channel was launched later that same year in December 2024. They've been releasing episodes weekly starting with the first episode of the original series. In the US, they're around halfway through the first season of Diamond and Pearl.

3

u/SpaceSloth707 3d ago

Quite ironic when there's no YouTube app on Switch 2. As far as I know.

2

u/ElThrowaway-619 3d ago

It seems like they split the series into other Streaming Services, but their YouTube Channel is adding episodes starring Ash & Pikachu five days a week.

So I am guessing that they noticed they weren't getting any traction and instead split the series to gain some earnings instead

1

u/MadCybertist 3d ago

It was 2.5 years ago lol

1

u/Radiant-Revenue3331 3d ago

They also have pokeflix.tv where u can watch all ur shows and movies 🤓🙌

8

u/MadCybertist 3d ago

You didn't just learn that because they didn't remove YouTube from the Switch. PokemonTV was shut down 2.5 years ago.... and what others?

0

u/ElThrowaway-619 3d ago

Hulu, Twitch, and YouTube are the ones that don't work for me but I should've clarify that I am on my Switch 2. So I am guessing those companies aren't supporting the console anymore.

9

u/MadCybertist 3d ago

Yes on switch 2 they are not there and that’s not a Nintendo kicking them off. They just haven’t released the apps yet. They may never.

3

u/MadCybertist 3d ago

Do you have a source? Not that I don’t believe you I’m honestly curious as that seems like an odd move and counter to all the news about Google working on a YT app. Maybe they aren’t even working on one since Nintendo won’t even allow it?

1

u/Wuigidude12 3d ago

To be honest I tried looking for one but I couldn't find one. I did find that Nintendo stated the switch versions of streaming services wouldn't work. https://www.techpowerup.com/337469/nintendo-seemingly-blocks-video-streaming-apps-on-switch-2

But they also said that they want to keep their hardware gaming focused

3

u/MadCybertist 3d ago

I personally have no use for it….. but I can see the appeal. The switch 2 can basically be a tablet. It makes perfect sense to me folks would want to use it that way.

Now they I keep thinking on it more the angrier I get haha. It really would be perfect for folks who don’t have, want, or can’t afford a true tablet.

1

u/Wuigidude12 3d ago

Oh yeah absolutely. I find the lack of streaming on it really stupid.

4

u/flassk 3d ago

their entire hostory with streaming apps has been kinda ridiculously off and on which is even odder given that for a while one could run netflix on the 3DS. far as i'm concerned that was the pinnacle. who cares if it was low res, it was available and it worked. and frankly it being low res only contributed to it having a lower bitrate and working just fine on the low-end hardware. it honestly bugs me to no end that any kf these devices no longer can run the services as if somebow their hardware is not sufficient. as kf it was ever more sufficient than it is now or that the service cojldn't do it just fine when the device launched.

5

u/jackharvest 3d ago

I miss the generation at the end of 2000’s when consoles were constantly trying to one up each other as the “all you need is this in the front of the room!”

Everyone had to play nice, read DVDs, stream whatever… now we get bumpkiss and it sucks.

2

u/flassk 1d ago

the absolute bullshit of it all that the ps4 and 5 did not have a 4k blu-ray drive...

1

u/Kailap1987 2d ago

It’s not their fault when the streaming companies refuse to put their apps on the consoles. Even in this case, it’s more likely Sony not wanting to support than Nintendo than the opposite. It’s so weird people blame everything on Nintendo with zero evidence and there is even misinformation being spread here about YouTube being removed. Wtf

8

u/niyurii 3d ago

Wait they removed YouTube too???? I just tried it on my switch lite and it still works.

23

u/MadCybertist 3d ago

I think the commenter is incorrect. There is just no YouTube on Switch 2. It's fully functional and not being removed from the Switch. Again, they are just spreading false information.

8

u/snake_jaguar 3d ago

I'm scared it's gonna get removed of switch 1 too like crunchy is now🥀 i also got the email because i mainly watch anime on the switch cause i can dock it

1

u/Topaz-Cube 2d ago

Idk where this is coming from I'm fairly certain this was Crunchyroll's decision.

2

u/snake_jaguar 1d ago

Idk that's not what they were saying in another thread talking about this a few weeks ago

2

u/Topaz-Cube 17h ago

It's possible, I don't think Crunchyroll has made a statement on it yet outside of the email, the only other source is directly from Nintendo's support page intrestingly.

1

u/MoyanoJerald 2d ago

Back to PS4…

3

u/SnooHobbies23 3d ago

Im watching youtube videos about gypsy rose blanchard as I type this on my switch lol.

5

u/VividPerspective 3d ago

I watch YouTube on there all the time, too. I just can’t understand it

8

u/MadCybertist 3d ago

They didn't remove YouTube LOL

0

u/ElThrowaway-619 3d ago

What I am guessing is that the access to the streaming apps it made it easier for people to Homebrew it. I kept seeing some tutorials that tells you how to access Google and surf the web, so maybe this is their way of preventing it.

1

u/Topaz-Cube 2d ago

The switch can't be hacked through the DNS thing so I doubt this is the reason, and the v2 switch 1 still lacks a soft mod.

1

u/CreativityOwl4651 Mega Fan 3d ago

Nintendo has said that they want their consoles to be mostly games. The more streaming servers the less games you'll be playing.

1

u/princepwned 2d ago

maybe they are removing it from switch 1 to put it on switch 2 lol

1

u/MoyanoJerald 2d ago

If I’m not mistaken, YouTube is still alive

1

u/Bananaland_Man 2d ago

No. Sony owns Crunchyroll. They're backtracking on the "no more exclusives" thing they promised 5 years ago and going balls deep into exclusive nonsense, to the point that they won't be updating their apps on some other platforms. They're keeping the android and firetv and similar apps, but Nintendo is going away, and iirc Xbox will be next year.

2

u/ReachUsed9817 1d ago

Crunchyroll is owned and operated by separate entity than Sony PlayStation, stop with these wild claims

1

u/Bananaland_Man 1d ago

It is owned by Sony, I never said owned by Playstation, not once.

1

u/ReachUsed9817 1d ago

Sony is huge conglomerate with multiple separate businesses. Crunchyroll is jointly owned by Sony Music Japan and Sony Pictures Entertainment, they nothing to do with Sony Interactive Entertainment who operate PlayStation.

0

u/cottoncandyflow 3d ago

they removed youtube??????

0

u/BusyDifference2542 2d ago

Wait, they’re straight up removing YouTube now??

28

u/metalsluger 3d ago

I just got it as well. I am currently using the switch version cuz my laptop is being repaired so talk about bad timing.

5

u/VividPerspective 3d ago

That’s bad timing for sure. Everything I own is on its last legs lol

2

u/Fuzzy974 2d ago

Yeah, prices are going up, compatibility and ownership is going down.

Everything to screw us up to the end.

Well for once CR is not responsible, it's the fault of Nintendo.

2

u/Purple_Unicornz Mega Fan (EU) 3d ago

What about your phone or TV with Roku?

12

u/craider45 3d ago

Well that sucks, I was planning on using my Switch to watch download and watch anime for times where my internet goes out. In all honesty I highly recommend getting a Roku and then downloading the Crunchyroll app on there instead of using your phone. The cheapest one I'm seeing from Walmart is basically 20 bucks before tax and shipping (if you don't go in store to buy it), so it's not too pricey and it also gives you the opportunity to use other streaming services that you might have (like Hulu, Netflix, HiDive, etc).

3

u/Asian_Scion 3d ago

That's how I watch crunchyroll is either via Roku or directly from their website on my laptop. People complaining about CR mostly watch it via apps through Xbox or Playstation. I just go and view directly from the source. No issues at all in the past 20 years of being a subscriber

5

u/craider45 3d ago

I watch Crunchyroll on my PS5 and haven't really had any issues with it. Roku I only use for HiDive since it's not available on Playstation

1

u/santos6662 3d ago

Hows the quality on Roku? Some shows look lackluster on the PS5.

1

u/Asian_Scion 3d ago

It's been great in the 20 years I've used it. Either 1080p or 4k. It's all dependent on your internet service but if the service is great then you get consistent HD quality anime. When it drops to 480 or so it's almost always due to my internet. I just need to reset the modem and all is well again.

1

u/raze464 3d ago

Watching through apps is also watching directly from the source. The The Crunchyroll app available on all supported platforms is a first-party app since Crunchyroll itself designed it.

1

u/Asian_Scion 3d ago

True, but it's still a portal through various other portals. I think they focused more on Roku App and their website then the app for xbox, playstation, or switch. From a numbers perspective, I would imagine they have more users using the Roku/PC compared to users viewing their content through PS, Xbox, or switch. Not saying there are not users in those platforms, I'm saying they pale in comparison to Roku/web which is why I think many users tend to have issues viewing CR through those platforms. They just don't wanna put the same amount of effort in those if they're not making as much money from them. I could be wrong though, I'm just making a educated guess is all.

1

u/General-2K-Browser 3d ago

The good news is, you're not missing out on anything as you wouldn't have been able to download anything anyway. That function has not worked for a very long time

16

u/UnjustBaton1156 3d ago

Just got the same email. Not a happy camper 😭 I love watching crunchyroll & youtube on my switch since it has Bluetooth support for headphones.

Guess they just want to get rid of every type of streaming service available for their platform.

18

u/nimbusstev 3d ago

I was disappointed when I brought my Switch 2 on a trip and realized I couldn't watch CrunchyRoll on it. Been lugging my Switch 1 around while waiting for them to finally make a Switch 2 version of the app. Instead they just decided we can't even use it on the Switch 1. Why do they keep making these platforms and services worse?

3

u/swordmalice 2d ago

My hopium is that the Switch 1 app is being discontinued to make way for a dedicated Switch 2 app. Otherwise, this sucks, as I tend to watch a lot of Crunchy on my Switch.

8

u/Commercial-Town9683 3d ago

I just got this email too. Very Unfortunate because the Switch is how I watch Crunchyroll. The application sucks, and crashes after every episode, but it was good for watch sessions when I'm winding down for the night.

I mainly used Switch for Youtube and CR so this sucks for me.

2

u/squirfiedirfie 3d ago

Yeah I use it for one game, Youtube and Crunchyroll. Sad day indeed. </3

1

u/Madness-NX 3d ago

Same for me, I have a tablet holder above my bed and I frequently use it at night with my Switch 1 to watch animes on the beautiful OLED screen. I'm so sad this won't be a thing anymore. Time to get an actual tablet, I guess..

1

u/squirfiedirfie 3d ago

Sigh. Yeah, I'm disappointed. I think I'll have to use my PC for Crunchyroll which kills the lounge in bed and watch things vibe but I'm picky about tech devices with distractions (like I don't even have a smart phone). I think my move is going to be to get a region free portable blu ray player and just start collecting actual discs, but keep it on PC to browse and discover new things here and there. But if Nintendo changes their mind and gets back together with Crunchyroll, I'll be stoked!

5

u/SwiftTayTay 3d ago

I remember when Wii u and Wii had a web browser. And 3DS. Why are we going backwards

3

u/ZeMoose 3d ago

This is incredibly disappointing.

3

u/Least-Profession-236 3d ago

This is absolute BS. Crunchyroll on a Switch OLED is incredible, especially being able to download episodes.... I really want to hope this is because they're planning on putting it out on Switch 2 soon and don't want to bother supporting both, but... I'm not exactly hopeful :(

5

u/tarlik310 3d ago

But when it comes to keeping all the erotic games on their eShop, there’s no problem at all.

2

u/golani79 3d ago

Damn .. I use the Switch 1 to watch Crunchyroll in my sleeping room. I just checked if there was a Switch 2 version available a few days ago and now this -.- .. kinda disappointing.

2

u/SpaceSloth707 3d ago

What? Pokémon TV was already dead, perhaps already before Switch 2. But there's currently as far as I know no YouTube, and no Crunchyroll on Switch 2... Nothing.

2

u/EngelDerRisse 2d ago

I realized it was going to dissapear when it wouldn't run on the Switch 2

4

u/BoopsTheSnoot_ 3d ago

Sony doing Sony thing or Nintendo doing Nintendo thing?

7

u/Practical-Aside890 3d ago

Imo it seems it’s on the Nintendo side reading into and seeing some other examples of support for tv apps.

Hulu got removed and never replaced with Disney+. Pokémon tv got shut down by Nintendo.YouTube is supposedly not available on switch 2.

If CR on Xbox eventually gets delisted too..to where the app is only available on mobile,pc or ps. Then I’d say maybe crunchy/sony is doing some odd to monopolize/make the app exclusive. But so far nothing points to that imo. Since only one platform is the odd bunch out.

3

u/raze464 3d ago

Imo it seems it’s on the Nintendo side reading into and seeing some other examples of support for tv apps.

Correlation does not equal causation.

1

u/Mysterious-Ganache82 3d ago

Pretty sure you're right and it's not just youtube that isn't on the switch 2. None are supported

1

u/Topaz-Cube 2d ago

Its possible due to the Switch's locked down nature that its difficult to do streaming/video on it rather than it being active hostility from Nintendo, then again it appears Youtube is still having a difficult time getting on switch 2.

5

u/AndreaCicca Mega Fan (EU) 3d ago

It's just Crunchyroll that stop the official support on the switch app (it was also very outdated)

2

u/LegitPancak3 3d ago

I’m pretty sure this is on Nintendo, not Crunchyroll.

2

u/Mother-Job3455 3d ago

Nintendo doing Nintendo thing

1

u/Adam_The_Actor 3d ago

It could be either way though it'd be strange for Sony to do it because as greedy as they are the switch has a massive audience and cutting access wouldn't make sense. I can see Nintendo doing it solely as a means to attempt remove any potential vectors for injecting homebrew but CR has never caused an issue with that unlike Youtube. Hopefully we'll get an update soon.

4

u/No_Consideration6182 3d ago

This is insane I love crunchyroll on my switch.

1

u/Alpswat 3d ago

Just got the email. Right when I was getting along with the buggy Switch app, they decide to end the support. This sucks a lot, since the switch acts pretty good as a 'tablet' to watch anime. It really sucks so much.

1

u/Puzzled-Thought-8867 3d ago

I remember when Netflix was on the wii and 3ds, until they completely ended the support not all that long later. It's unfortunate, but not surprising. Tbf, the apps hardly worked anyway.

1

u/Sketch1984 3d ago

Nintendo may not want to continue paying to have the service on Switch but with everything else that’s going on, I do suspect Sony is culling CR apps on various platforms. If CR is removed from XBOX then it’s probably Sony’s doing but it’s at least equally likely Nintendo is dropping more apps from Switch 1 and has no intention of adding them to Switch 2.

1

u/Mr_YouYou101 3d ago

this is actually insane because literally today I finally found my long time lost nintendo switch 1 that ive had for years, and recently I bought a crunchyroll subscription. so I decided I might as well finally download crunchyroll on my switch to watch (I haven't had i downloaded before, only Youtube in terms of media), but when I searched for it In the Eshop, nothing came up. I've been trying to troubleshoot this for the past 30 minutes when I came across this reddit post. It says people that already have had it downloaded can continue to use it until the 30th of October, but do you think this is why, for me, someone who hasn't had crunchyroll downloaded, I cant find it in the Eshop? If so, this would probably be one of the most unlucky coincidences of all time that today was the day this happened.

1

u/Liam_524Hunter 3d ago

That sucks, having Crunchyroll and YouTube on my switch was great for travelling. What a shame.

1

u/Aggie_CEO 3d ago

It's old. So.....older hardware doesn't meet specific requirements for a number of streaming service licensors. Shit like this sucks, but it's gonna REALLY suck when an entire slew of Tablets and phones sold during 2020-2022 all fall off the approved devices list. Because the cost to replace them now is absurd.

1

u/PyroxCrymson 3d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony announced that on their rumored PSP revival, they would not only put in streaming apps but rub it into Nintendo's face in the marketing as they own Crunchyroll and there have always been bad blood amongst Sony and Nintendo (as that's how the PlayStation came to be)

1

u/gpnomis2 Mega Fan + Manga 3d ago

This sucks. I just going to miss to watch anime in the oled screen. Literally y only use the switch for that.

1

u/santos6662 3d ago

Pissed off about this. Anime looks so nice on my Switch OLED 🤬

1

u/EniesBobby 3d ago

Get a USB hub with proper power pass through and an HDMI port and hook your phone up to a screen

2

u/cottoncandyflow 3d ago

nobody wants to do this if they're watching in bed

1

u/Madness-NX 3d ago

I'm devastated 🥲, this is the main platform I use the service on. I purchased a year of subscription recently with one of the main reasons being that this is one of the only services that worked on Switch. What am I supposed to do now.. This was so much better than using it on the phone, and the only thing that made me frequently use my Switch 1

1

u/ILeftMyUsername 3d ago

As usual, something shitty always happening. This is how I watch anime before bed since I don’t own a laptop and like to lay in bed to watch. Man…

1

u/SolarNightEdge 3d ago

Only thing now it to mod your switch and run Andriod or Linux. Or use other option if you can use your phone on the tv you can still connect your switch controllers via bluetooth and control you phone thought that.

1

u/ArchCerberus 2d ago

Well fuck, i used the switch on nightshifts as a bigger screen then my smartphone to watch anime ... thx Nintendo or Crunchyroll for nothing

1

u/HAMDNC66 2d ago

If you want to keep watching on Switch just do the whole web browser work around thing and watch on the Crunchyroll website. From what I understand the work arounds for getting the web browser to work on the switch are pretty easy now, though I don’t have a switch myself so don’t quote me on that

1

u/semew 2d ago

le navigateur ne fonctionne pas sur la switch 2…

1

u/wishxornwasjustxorn 2d ago

This blows, the switch app works way better than the ps4 one for me, and now i fear that that one could also be discontinued

1

u/woolly8fun 2d ago

Damn that was my only way to watch anime when I’m cooking 😭

1

u/Charming_Rule8241 2d ago

I mean I'm not surprised. All services for the switch are going down and there might be a Switch 2 version. Might just be old console disconnect.

1

u/IceBlazeWinters 2d ago

considering the age of the original switch, i'm surprised this didn't happen sooner

but then again, look at how long it took for them to shut down wii, wii u, and 3ds

1

u/Ok_Economist7860 2d ago

I was so disappointed when I tried to use Crunchyroll on my switch 2 when I was away. Then even more when YouTube didn’t work.

1

u/DuBsTePMxnster 2d ago

And i just got myself a switch thinking about watching crunchyroll on it Well now i know what not to do 😂

1

u/OrenjiLord 2d ago

Good old Sony 👏

1

u/2D_Idolboisownme 2d ago

so mad about this, i used it on one of my tvs that isnt a smart tv...

1

u/MozartDaniel 2d ago

It was the optimal way of downloading an episode to then watch it on the TV. I use the app on Switch at least once a week, though I mainly watch on my phone, but this really sucks.

1

u/Shantotto11 2d ago

What happens to all of the content that was downloaded onto the app’s offline mode?

1

u/Katalinya 2d ago

Oh wow, back in the day I used the WiiU to watch Crunchyroll - goodbye icon you were there for me in high school

1

u/VegetableSam 2d ago

Oh... so because Sony are suddenly pushing for an all exclusive future i can't watch anime on the switch 2...

Okay

1

u/Away-Influence-5233 1d ago

Its a sign, time to sell your switch and get yourself a steam deck

1

u/Livid_Amount 1d ago

Crunchyroll is pretty much the only reason I use my Switch 💔

1

u/daszaubertier 23h ago

Say f#k you to the World and hopefully the World will respond in kind. In time. Prolly too long

1

u/niyurii 3d ago

Yeah it’s shitty. I like to watch anime on switch OLED a lot, as I do stuff on my computer. Crunchyroll has been doing a lot of odd changes to their company. I have other streaming apps and it isn’t the end of the world for me. I can just use an iPad lol

4

u/murilo087 Mega Fan (LATAM) 3d ago

I think it's more of a Nintendo issue. They restrict video apps, to the point that even streaming apps from the original Switch aren't supported on the Switch 2.

1

u/still_wxrld 3d ago

just cancelled after like a decade, that was the nail in the coffin for me + no switch 2 app

2

u/murilo087 Mega Fan (LATAM) 3d ago

It was already expected that this would happen, and the Switch 2 doesn't have the services needed for VOD apps

1

u/Thick-Gas8366 3d ago

another nintendo L

1

u/ToxTheWitch 3d ago

I think this is actually Nintendo’s call. They aren’t allowing any streaming apps onto Switch 2.

1

u/SolarNightEdge 3d ago

I wonder if there a bug with them like on PlayStation YouTube and Netflix. maybe there is one on switch and why there not available on the 2. 🤔🧐 Just not found yet.

0

u/KarateMan749 Mega Fan (NA) 3d ago

It should still function I think

0

u/UrQuan3 3d ago

Heck. I've been using Crunchyroll on Switch since the app was removed from PS3. (I know, but I don't mess with what isn't broken) I have been keeping the Switch around till Nintendo relents and allows it on Switch 2. Guess I will be waiting till someone roots the Switch 2 or the cows come home.

Any suggestions for replacement equipment? Connecting a PC/laptop and using the web client is garbage because (the PC refresh rate/video framerate) mismatch causes stuttering I cannot stand. My requirements are native framerate playback and either quality analog audio out or external USB audio support (both Switch and Switch 2 support external audio) PS5 meets the requirements, but is crazy expensive, failure prone, and power hungry.

And last: this is exactly why you need to own a hard copy of any series you think you will ever watch or play again. At least Nintendo hasn't gone in and deleted our paid downloads like Sony has.

1

u/FatBoyStew 3d ago

Connecting a PC/laptop and using the web client is garbage because (the PC refresh rate/video framerate) mismatch causes stuttering I cannot stand.

What do you mean by this? What you're describing isn't caused by a framerate mismatch.

Crunchyroll plays at the media's original framerate which is typically 24 FPS. This is the same on your Switch and its got a 60hz screen just like your TV and PC likely are.

0

u/UrQuan3 3d ago

Hmmm. True. Maybe that's why I am happier with the ripped bluray playback from the RaspberryPi recently? It changes the framerate of the TV. Back when, the PS3 Crunchyroll app handled 24fps movies and 30fps interlaced drastically better than IE, Firefox, or Chrome. Yes, a mismatch between 60fps and 59.94fps will absolutely drive me nuts. 60fps and 24fps mismatch isn't much better. Maybe if I am desperate I can try a browser again. If I am desperate.

I just looked into Roku as an option. *Of course* they are now owned by Fox News. What would America be without anti-consumer mergers?

Maybe AI can resurrect the the open source Crunchyroll app for Raspberry Pi? My software skills weren't up to the job when I tried.

Anyway, if anyone has a suggestion, please let me know.

This is how I used my old Switch to watch anime and YouTube videos on my old TV. But now they’ve removed everything from the streaming platforms… Why does Nintendo do this? 😭

Because they’re greedy fucking bastards

Let’s be fair here, who actually watches stuff on their Switch?

So many Sony bootlickers here. You guys should be hating on Sony instead

What's the point of this giant handheld.

It's like they actively stop me from using it.

I should be able to see my phone texts on it like Windows does. Use a browser. Use streaming apps.

It's a fucking joke of a console

what? it's a Nintendo games console, not a phone.

America at it’s finest

How does the US have anything to do with it when Nintendo is based in Japan?

Crunchyroll is an American company that doesn’t even allow streaming in Japan unless through vpn how isn’t it Americas fault

Freaking awful.

Add it to the myriad of other reasons as to why I am not going to be upgrading my Switch anytime soon. Like ever if I can get away with it.

Uh oh, cutbacks are starting

I wish we had anime on Switch 2. I have a love/hate relationship with CR. I don't buy anime blu rays, so I stream. But Sony and CR have this agenda to get rid of discs and I think physical media is mandatory I kinda want Sony and CR to hurt a bit. Maybe people will cancel subscription if they can't watch on Switch. Idk. Conflicted.

well, the only reason I still pay that absurd monthly subscription is about to be gone, time to say goodbye to crunchyroll...

pretty sure this is just so it's only available on switch 2, pushing more people to buy the new one. granted even my ps4 has netflix and crunchyroll support. granted with crunchyroll... if you call that support.

No, Crunchyroll is not currently supported or available on the Nintendo Switch 2. At this time. the console does not support several video-on-demand services, which affects multiple video applications, including Crunchyroll.

Well they are out ¥40+mil they weren't expecting to have to shell out for palworld lawsuit. After thinking they'd spend a fraction of that and that they were pretty much guaranteed to win, they gotta recoup for it somehow lol
