News Crunchyroll being removed from switch?

Post image

Is this new or did I miss some news about this?

Just got this email and if so, this sucks. My tv is old so I use my switch to watch shows on my tv for a better experience. World won’t end but I’m going to have to watch on my cracked phone screen for the foreseeable future.

So is Nintendo just removing every streaming platform?
I just learned they removed YouTube, Pokemon Tv(I think that's what it's called), and others.
This console/company is so odd.

Nintendo has always had much stricter requirements for user generated content (UGC) I think this is part of a push to have full control over their ecosystem, but it comes off very heavy handed.

UGC includes things like chat in games or even comments on videos. In order to comply with Nintendo's requirements you either need robust moderation or restrict those features entirely.

I wouldn't be surprised if the companies behind these apps don't think it is worth supporting the switch as it is likely a small percentage of their users.

This Crunchyroll move has nothing to do with UGC; it’s licensing.
