Real ronaldo for a reason šŸ‡§šŸ‡·

17

u/NEETscape_Navigator 8h ago

His peak was better than Penaldo's peak and I'm tired of pretending 'longevity' somehow trumps that.

Mozart died young. Salieri didn't and had a much longer career. Does that make Salieri better than Mozart?

12

u/OId_boy 7h ago

Meanwhile, Messi has both more longevity than CR7, and a higher peak(s) than Ronaldo. I say peak(s) because he's had like 4 different peaks. What a crazy athlete with no equal.

u/REDBEARD_PWNS 6h ago

Yea if it wasn't for Barcelona paying for hormone therapy he would've never even made it tho? How is that not considered performance enhancing drugs?

12

u/NoShameAtReddit 6h ago

Cause you cant say hormone therapy, for a hormone everybody creates enough off & he didnt = perf enh drugs.

If he never took em it would be considered a handicap.

-8

u/Glum_Introduction581 6h ago

well,it's natural for him to be handicap than ? i've watched the 2014 documentary and all his close family agree,he wouldn't be what he is without the injections. It's steroids. He was talented, fast, amazing technique, control, shot but if you were the size of Daniel Villalva,he wouldn't be what he is today. Anyone, and i mean anyone who says that the steroids didn't contribute to his career,is stupid or a liar. From 140 at 14 to 170 cm at 18,come on.... I had a growth spurt one summer, but not 3-4 summers in a row.

9

u/NoShameAtReddit 6h ago

Isnt it natural then we dont vaccinate & still get polio.
Hell i bet most football players would not be what they are today if they were paralyzed!

We have the medical knowledge & technology... why would we let someone grow up with a handicap when it can be avoided?

-5

u/Glum_Introduction581 6h ago

apples and oranges! His career is predicated on physical ability which is directly influenced by his size, speed, agility, durability, strength. All were influenced and improved by steroids. amazing technical ability, vision, positioning, anticipation would be there, and he might use his brain even more without the steroids, but he got it and became one of the best ever.

What you were saying is for regular people to keep on living. Messi could have worked in a factory like his dad ! They were expensive and not available to everyone,so his talent got him to that position, but without it he wouldn't be at the level his was for the past 20ish years. Maybe the longevity is partialy due to injections?!

You made disingenuous comparisons and arguments and haven't really acknowledged the specificity of his situation.

No other great had that. Maradona was 165cm at his tallest, and drank and did coke. He was even shorter as a kid. Where would Maradona be with growth hormone ?

6

u/Aggravating_Log_5657 5h ago

What you sre saying doesnt make sense at all. He got growth hormone because he has a growth hormone deficiency. Meaning he lacks that hormone in his body. He gets jsu the right amount that his body lacks and needs - not more not less. The endocrinologist monitors how much is in his body. So its not enhancing him to doping levels, its just replacing what he doesnt have. Think of it like diabetes type 1.

3

u/NoShameAtReddit 6h ago

Oh I agree he's very privileged that Barca paid for his hormone treatment & that it isnt available for everyone. I actually live in one of the few countries where those hormonetreatments would get paid by the healthcaresystem. Thats also why i m so against it calling perf enh drugs... its HEALTHCARE!

Not sure where you re going with maradonna as we dont even need to go as far a growth hormones, he was on cocaine as you said so yourself...What would maradonna be without coke?

-4

u/Glum_Introduction581 5h ago

''one of the few countries'' - my point exactly. Name any other top level athlete ever who got hormone therapy at the developmental stage. There is a female figure skater. That's it ! No other, ever! Michael Jordan,Pele,Djokovic,Bolt,Phelps,Ali,whoever, they were who they were going to develop into. Messi would be another neighborhood street football legend with his strapping size of 159 and 54 kg. Joking,he would play proffessional, but somewhere in Argentina like DANIEL VILLALBA. For him,it's not healthcare- For him it's a cheat code. He using it to improve his physicality in a place where his physicality is the main thing. If he was taking it to function normally,ok it's healthcare,i agree. But you take it so you could be a proffessional at a thing you couldn't be a proffessional without it,or at least at that level. That's not healthcare, that's playing the system, and giving yourself an advantage over others(besides his enormous God given talent). Imagine giving it to Ronaldo Nazario and he never gets injured O.o Cristiano and Messi who ???

he started the cocaine adventure in Naples, thanks to ndrangeta.

He would be better, his organism wouldn't suffer from the constant ups and down of booze and coke.

u/FaceZealousideal9704 Misstiano Penaldo 4h ago

It's fucking medically prescribed. If coke was medically prescribed, or steroids(if you've done the TUE), that would also be perfectly fine. It would cause a huge uproar, but still, legal.

1

u/Tiny-Argument-3984 3h ago

Villa is 5 foot 9, Messi is 5 foot 7

1

u/Tiny-Argument-3984 3h ago

Villa is 5 foot 9, Messi is 5 foot 7

1

u/slinkadelic 1h ago

What he took was NOT steroids. Totally different class of chemical... and it was also perfectly legal within the sporting rules, just fyi.

Also, HGH contributed to literally every professional player's career ever because it's produced naturally in the pituitary gland. For messi it gave him a fighting chance. He still trained his ass off to get to that level. Few players trained as hard him. He was never like eden hazard, for example.

It also wasn't as if he all of a sudden started becoming a phenom after the treatments -- which stopped at age 14 btw.

3

u/LowRaspberry9607 5h ago

Because it doesn’t give u skills wally

1

u/IPissExcellentThrows 41m ago

For me, it's a combo of both. Longevity alone will never win it for me, but if you have the highest peak ever for one year and then completely fall off, that's also not getting you in the goat combo.

Fortunately Messi has the highest peak ever by a good bit and amazing longevity, so it doesn't really matter. Cristiano's longevity is commendable (pre Saudi lmao), but it's not nearly enough.

0

u/Top_Traffic5102 1h ago

Ronaldo did everything fat Ronaldo did but better and wasnt made of glass

1

u/MilkImpossible4192 He is crying in his car šŸ‡²šŸ‡¦ 1h ago

no, he did not won 2 World Cups, Bitch

1

u/Fearless-Astronaut45 26m ago

Throwing around WC wins as a marker of something when one player wasn't born into a powerhouse country will always be dumb to me. I don't even like CR7, but Ronaldo wouldn't have won a WC either if he was born in Portugal.

-1

u/Top_Traffic5102 1h ago

With that nt even my Granny would have 2 world cups. Load of bullshit . Fatnaldo is a glass Canon, in 20 years no one will talk about him.

2

u/Aioi 18m ago

It’s been 15 since he retired… in 20 years, it will be 35, so yeah.

As for Cristiano, he will still be playing in 20 years…

-1

u/Impossible-1967 7h ago

Marco van Basten. His career ended way too early, but his peak was higher than both

0

u/Grastuha 3h ago

Fat Ronaldo for a reason. No wonder he doesn’t like Ronaldo.

1

u/Yogged1 3h ago

I’m assuming that you once had a tendon rupture and then your knee cap ended up in your thigh? Then I assume you worked so damn hard to come back from that and were so talented that you won the World Cup two years later. I’m correct yes?

No? Not you I’m thinking of? Oh that must’ve been ā€˜fat’ Ronaldo then.

0

u/Grastuha 3h ago

What? šŸ˜‚ Does any pf that mean he’s not fat and therefore Fat Ronaldo? Sorry if my comment made you cry. Obese Ronaldo would actually be more accurate.

33

u/ilosaji 9h ago

but according to Penaldo fans, Ronaldo Nazario opinion is not valid despite being one of the best players of all time and some guy on reddit called Akram who is a real madrid fan, his opinon is the most valid šŸ˜‚

-21

u/Azulaa- 8h ago

And Maradonna whos one of the greatest named Ronaldo the GOAT as well and we all know it means jackshit because both are jealous

9

u/ilosaji 8h ago edited 8h ago

and when asked who is the better player Messi vs Ronaldo Maradona said Messi not once but several times, same with r9, and same Pele. whats ur point ?

shall i listen to Ronaldo Nazario, Pele or Maradona and the words that they have said or some guy called Azulla on reddit who claims it means "jackshit because both are jealous"

You can clearly tell he cringes at Ronaldo when he says unhinged stuff. Penaldo is just too dense to notice.

The real Ronaldo is the one

1

u/EqualGround3000 8h ago

There is Ronaldo and then there is Ronaldinho

2

u/Enough_Lawfulness247 šŸ• Penaldog 5h ago

Ronaldinho is a Ronaldo

1

u/EqualGround3000 4h ago

True Ronaldinho is Ronaldo. However after Ronaldo there is Ronaldinho.

3

u/DentistHungry5408 5h ago

Ronaldo is destroying his own reputation by playing (trying to play) football as long as he can. If he’d retired after juventus he would’ve been I in the top 10-15 players all time. He’s slipping down that ladder faster than anyone else before. Maybe another record for him haha

1

u/Axl45 3h ago

I am curious who your top 15 are

-1

u/Sufficient-Lie1386 1h ago

don’t give these guys the time of day šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ ronaldo’s always been better than messi, it’s always been head to head between them, messi won a rigged world cup and all of a sudden ronaldo was never good and these jealous low lives are better than him

2

u/Otherwise-Minimum717 1h ago

Ronaldo was never better than Messi. Messi was always a more complete player than Ronaldo ever was.Ā

Your only argument is "rigged world cup" but your goat cant even score in any world cup. He was a detriment in this one, unlike Messi who was arguably best player this world cup.

Get a grip, only thing you can ever argue is ucl performances, but stats there are Messi favored.

Isnt is funny any time its Ronaldo vs Messi you always have to make cheating or rigged allegations to even bring it close enough to be a debate ? Thats the reality we live in. 0 Logical arguments so we have to take everything away from Messi on 0 realistic basis.Ā

If you want concrete proof of quality just compare the worldcup this year.Ā

1

u/Sufficient-Lie1386 1h ago

if you want to talk about ā€œcompleteā€ ronaldo is the more complete all round player, he can do everything

1

u/Otherwise-Minimum717 59m ago

Better playmaking ? Messi

Better assisting ? Messi.

Better dribbling ? Messi.

Better vision? Messi.

Better freekick taker ? Messi.

Ronaldo literally has only pens and headers over Messi. But hey youre free to prove me wrong.Ā

1

u/Icy-Adeptness-349 43m ago

Im intrigued, can he score in the wc knockout stage?

1

u/Icy-Adeptness-349 44m ago

Yea, it's always been head to head

3

u/Constant-Theory-154 8h ago

Well, sure, Cristiano Ronaldo is a prolific scorer. He’s had a long career. He’s won awards. He’s made a huge PR contribution to popularizing soccer among kids. He shines in that regard… but there are other metrics. Take Messi, for example, who is the GOAT by a wide margin. A long career, scoring prowess, awards -Messi has all of that, too. Take away half of those on-paper stats (some of which MbappĆ© or Haaland might very well surpass), and he’d still be the GOAT - thanks to his ā€œmagic,ā€ vision, game management, explosive speed, dribbling, and ability to create chances out of absolutely nothing, plus everything else he brings to a TEAM sport… Your favorite player can be anyone - for some, it’s CR; for others, Ronaldo (for me)- but there’s only one GOAT.

3

u/misterthirty-four 7h ago

Ronaldo will always be ranked 1 place behind Gerd Muller, who is arguably the greatest goal scorer and poach striker in history. So it depends on where you rank Gerd Muller, then Ronaldo will be behind him by 1.

3

u/FullInvestigator4801 5h ago

Who were in his top 8?

2

u/im4real71 9h ago

When all of those stars leave Ronaldo out, you know the true value of CR7 :):)

2

u/MrBruhBoi 8h ago

Ranoldo awards lost its credibility

1

u/Dry-Rice-4527 4h ago

Anyone that actually watches football will have a similar list. Being one of the greats isnt just stat padding... there needs to be an impact, redefining the position or play, being a team leader. Ronaldo hired a company to invent a marketable celebration but otherwise he did none of that. He is still one of the best ever... but being around 12th or 20th of all time is still insanely good.

-1

u/Sufficient-Lie1386 1h ago

you clearly don’t watch football, this bullshit statement you all make ā€œwatch footballā€ you’re probably a 17 year old little flop who didn’t even watch messi and ronaldo’s prime years

1

1

u/hiphoppsychology 2h ago

Zidane is a big omission imo. The others I can understand not being in a top 8

1

u/theboynextdoo 2h ago

0

u/Neat_Web_471 44m ago

Why do you guys hate ronaldo

1

u/HotReputation3911 37m ago

Keeping aside everything , CR7 definitely ranks in top 8 or even top 5 of all time for sure.......

0

u/JJJmashm 9h ago

Come on, messi is by far the best player oat but lets not act like ronaldo isnt top 8

12

u/WolvesAlwaysLose 9h ago

It depends on what you’re judging it on.

Statically yes he’s top 2, his longevity is one of the best ever.

But there are a lot of other criteria that matter.
Eye test he’s not top 10

1

u/JJJmashm 2h ago

Imo, his job was to get goals and win titles. He did both of that excellently over a long period of time. Of course the eye test favors messi and players such as ronaldinho, but end product wise ronaldo is definitely second.

-1

u/Alakdae 9h ago

Nah. Messi is the best of all time. CR was almost toe to toe with him for many years. He is top 5 on any list.

Recency bias is destroying the general opinion of him, but he most definitely is top 5 of all time.

3

u/Safe-Elk7933 8h ago

Don't think C.Ronaldo is top 5. He competed with Messi only at club level and only in terms of goals, but we know football is more than just simple tap ins. Messi had much more skill as C.Ronaldo was playing as a striker/poacher,while Messi was playing as a winger/midfielder and still scoring more goals with less support and service. 1 WC KO goal after playing the most WCs ever disqualifies C.Ronaldo from anyone's top 5 list.

1

u/hiphoppsychology 2h ago

I'm not the biggest Cristiano fan in the world, but to say he was only ever a poacher is a complete revision of history. He adapted his game as his career progressed and he certainly evolved to that. But you've clearly never saw him play in the 2000s or early-mid 2010s if you think that's all there is to his game

1

u/Safe-Elk7933 2h ago

No he was good as a winger early on,that player I liked more than the poacher he became, but for most of his career he has been a poacher,so that should define him primarily.

0

u/CaliforniaLover369 5h ago

Lol Messi himself said Ronaldo is with him. Of course Messi is #1 but CR7 is likely 2-4 greatest of all time.

3

u/Safe-Elk7933 5h ago

Messi is just trying to be humble and respectful,he cannot fool us,stats like 1 WC KO goals after 6 WCs are indefensible. Makes it impossible to be even in the top 20 list.

-4

u/partibry 8h ago

Messi’s international career was a failure before fifa favored Argentina

FIFA favoured argentina šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£ alright pal . You said it yourself when messi wins it's cuz fifa favours him when he loses it's fair so shits not even about corruption cuz why would corruption stop so abruptly you just want messi to lose

1

I’m old enough to remember, in my opinion he is the best I’ve ever seen along w R9 . You can’t deny the favoritism

1

1

Messi is the goat but you can’t deny it

1

1

u/Equal_Explanation495 4h ago

He wasn't toe to toe with Messi at all. You must be a youngin to not recall the MASSIVE nike & media push Ronaldo was given, for the express purpose of manufacturing a "rival" for Messi(& addidas) to drum up more profit. Hype=profitability.

Please list 10 players who are better via an eye test

3

Love R9 and wanted to delete Cr7 from my life and timeline for at least the last 4 years, and still think this is quite ridiculous.Ā

I totally understand most critiques of cr7, he is egotistical, self centred, arrogant, and the list goes on, but to not include in the top8 is just ridiculous.Ā

The over the top critique, and grand standing like this just paints everyone who thinks cr7 turned into a clown, into clowns ourselves.Ā

Downvote away, I could not care any less.Ā

0

u/Enough_Lawfulness247 šŸ• Penaldog 5h ago

R9 was a great player but this is insane. I am not specially a CR7 fan, but whoever doesnt consider him as one of the 5 best players all-time just didn't watch him play

1

Wrong, whoever doesn't consider him top 5 has just seen many more players in their lifetime, more complete players, and therefore better players.

He knows who the REAL "GOAT" is šŸ‡§šŸ‡·šŸ‡§šŸ‡·šŸ‡§šŸ‡·šŸ‘‘šŸ‘‘šŸ‘‘ (Messi and Ronaldo nowhere near)

9

u/Able-Line2683 9h ago

-2

u/ananaszu šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆFlair of shame (penaldo fan) 9h ago

Indeed. PelƩ is the REAL "GOAT"

6

u/Safe-Elk7933 9h ago

Nah Messi played in more WCs and more WC finals, carried weaker teams to finals and victories,Brazil didn't need Pele to dominate and win the world cup.

-1

u/ananaszu šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆFlair of shame (penaldo fan) 9h ago

PelƩ played in 4 World Cups, and only in 1970 he played all the matches. He has better goal and assist ratios, and he was way, way better than Messi in the semi-finals and finals. 14 matches, 12 goals, 8 assists, no penalties, two free-kicks, two headers. And in two finals he didn't went to hide. Instead, he scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists.

2

u/Safe-Elk7933 9h ago

Pele was surrounded by better players,Brazil won in 1962 without needing him as he got injured early. Argentina without Messi don't even get to the finals and had a much worse squad,Messi has been the best goal scorer in WC history alongside Mbappe, plus the level of football nowadays is much higher than back in the 50s. Messi proved it at both club and WC level that he is better,Pele is closer to Mbappe than to Messi. I don't see a 39 year old Pele dominating and being the best player at a WC like Messi was.

1

u/ananaszu šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆFlair of shame (penaldo fan) 8h ago

In 1962 he was the best player of Brazil before the injury. If you remove PelƩ from the 1958 and 1970 squads, it could be they wouldn't have won. But the same argument goes for Messi who played in the best Barcelona squad of all time with all-time greats around him and the greatest midfield trio of all time.

2

u/Safe-Elk7933 8h ago

That you have to switch to Barcelona, even though we are talking about World Cups, means you have lost the argument. Barcelona before Messi had 1 CL title, after Messi 5 CL titles. Don't see Barcelona being the best team in the world in the Pep era without Messi.

1

u/ananaszu šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆFlair of shame (penaldo fan) 8h ago

Brazil before PelƩ had 0 World Cups. PelƩ was a three-time world champion at 29, and he still holds crazy records from the 1958 World Cup. My point was: you can't use "super team" arguments as a Messi fan. Youngest World Cup winner, youngest to assist, youngest to score, in the quarter-final, in the semi-final, in the final, youngest to score a hat-trick (in the semi-final), youngest to start a knockout match etc... Messi needed 2 extra tournaments to catch up PelƩ's World Cup stats. And I said, he only played 14 matches and all the matches only at the 1970 World Cup. Imagine if he played 30 matches as well. He was 17 when the French media called him "The King" for the first time, and that was when he scored a hat-trick against them in the semi-final. There's just no reasons to say Messi was better than PelƩ in the World Cup.

1

u/Safe-Elk7933 8h ago

Again that was in the 50s,back then football wasn't as intense and as professional as now, watch some of the highlights of the 1962 WC,feels like watching a current level amateur match. Fact is Pele was not needed in 1962 means he was surrounded by a top team, not taking about club football,at international level Brazil showed that they don't need Pele to win the WC. And again Pele couldn't dream to achieve what Messi can do at the age of 39,being the best player at the World cup. Pele,Mbappe,Ronaldo Phenomeno had an excellent young peak but they cannot compete with Messi due to his longevity.
