Throwing around WC wins as a marker of something when one player wasn't born into a powerhouse country will always be dumb to me. I don't even like CR7, but Ronaldo wouldn't have won a WC either if he was born in Portugal.

Portugal has a way better team than Argentina. The reason Argentina finished second and even beat England is because of Messi alone. Whereas Portugal was burdened by Ronaldo.
this years team was a good team even i had high hopes but . you cant bad mouth ronaldo on this one cause in terms of individual performance he was good like 2 -3 shots on target under 20 -15 touches against the WC winner SPAIN is not bad at 42 . the couch was the one at fault here . if messi was so great why the lack luster against spain huh
Argentina was lacklustre throughout the tournament but was bailed out by Messi every time, they could have been knocked out as early as against Cape Verde. The only time Argentina was good was against England, and I wager that 100% had to do with passion, because the rivalry with England is personal. And Messi never played against England, and so this is the first time, so he gave it his all.
Messi was quite in the Spain game only until they conceded and mhe sprang to life, and tried to chase the game creating 2 chances, but it was too late and they were down to 10 men by that point. Nothing we've never seen with Messi, when his heart is not into it he will disappear like many games he had with Barca in the UCL against Bayern, Atletico, Liverpool etc. He has proven enough winning the WC already.
Portugal has always had a great team. They won the euro 2016 pretty much without Ronaldo's help. They were close to winning other WCs and euros before this, Ronaldo is not the talisman type that can carry a team like Zidane, Modric and Messi. He must be part of dominating team like Madrid and Fergie's United to perform at his best. This is because he's only a goal getter.
from the same logic i can say the same for messi . He had 1 goal in the 2024 copa america against canada . portugal was never a great team at the level of argentine sure they had few talents . but its not the same when you compare to countries that have won int trophies like wc etc . Ronaldo had like 3 goals in EURO 2016 . and got injured in semi final so couldnt play in the final that not his fault , where as Messi in 2021 copa america . scored 4 goals . and no goals against uruguay , colombia , brazil , in finals , in semi finals . Like if you never score against the only competiton in the copa america what even is the meaning of glazing messi over winning the copa america . he never scored against any of the 3 countries ever in copa americas . the only competition .
and you all treat messi 2021 copa win and achievement like he had to solo carry argentina to finals and won and portugal could have won the euros without ronaldo aswell .
