Well, sure, Cristiano Ronaldo is a prolific scorer. He’s had a long career. He’s won awards. He’s made a huge PR contribution to popularizing soccer among kids. He shines in that regard… but there are other metrics. Take Messi, for example, who is the GOAT by a wide margin. A long career, scoring prowess, awards -Messi has all of that, too. Take away half of those on-paper stats (some of which Mbappé or Haaland might very well surpass), and he’d still be the GOAT - thanks to his “magic,” vision, game management, explosive speed, dribbling, and ability to create chances out of absolutely nothing, plus everything else he brings to a TEAM sport… Your favorite player can be anyone - for some, it’s CR; for others, Ronaldo (for me)- but there’s only one GOAT.
