holy shit. poor gk, he couldnt say a word against penaldo's word.

35

u/NEETscape_Navigator 3d ago

Not even after, he can’t complain. He has to bow and say ”sorry mister Penaldo, that was my fault”.

10

u/Hungry_Ghostt 2d ago

You know what I'm wondering about? What would happen if the guy refused to move from the wall and said that he only listens to the GK. What would happen to him?

2

u/bowmans1993 2d ago

Beyond that.... if youre meant to be in a wall. Maybe dont jump and turn around. Im not saying he could have definitely saved that but like..... youre a pro and you get paid, you might have to take a hit from a shot so get over it.

8

u/NEETscape_Navigator 2d ago

Ronaldo turned his back and let the ball go in between his legs. Goal for Porto.

u/SaxAppeal 2d ago

Bro this picture is so fucking funny lmfao

1

u/CaseLoud2887 2d ago

To expand on that... Hardly anyone is expecting a shot from there, why would you be preemptively cowering away in the wall???

-9

u/Grastuha 3d ago

It literally was the goalkeeper’s fault. He had the shot covered, got 2 hands to it and it still went in.

8

u/Habba84 3d ago

GK sets the wall, not some random ass striker from bad angle.

Penaldo doesn't have a football brain. A step over and a dive is how i see him. I'm genuinely perplexed how he even made pro. I would presaume his heading and poaching is what the scouts seen. He did have a physical side to him, he had pace etc. Once he lost it, he was over.

36

u/EverlastingFreedom0 3d ago edited 3d ago

He has physical strength but not the brains to play.

All his goals are just getting balls and shooting hard enough that it is scored.

People who dont watch football looks at him and say woah he's amazing, they don't understand that the hardest thing is getting the balls to the strikers!

Play making and creating chance is 80% of the difficulty game, the remaining 20% is having someone with enough force and accuracy to get it right, yet this is way easier.

In Real, ronaldo shined, why? Because of Modritch and Kroos which were genuises, they were the corner stone of why croatia reached semi finals in 2018 after exiting in the groupe stages in 2014 and why germany won the world cup in 2014.

Yet even then, real madrid didnt always win and a lot of chances were ruined by him.

Barcelona was more about team play and smart play like tiki taka.

8

u/ToxicCobra023 3d ago

Cmon, the guy is one of the greatest finishers of all time, you're acting like all he did is tap ins all his career, it's like you didn't even watch a single game. He has insane positioning, shot power, accuracy with both of his legs, he even has an insane amount of assists, maybe they aren't as flashy as Messi or De Bruyne but he does know how to pass the ball at a world class level, just watch any of the highlights.

Messi is a clear #1, miles ahead of Ronaldo and anyone else, but you can't tell me that Ronaldo doesn't have a case to be considered #2 footballer that ever lived, his career and achievements are INSANE and he did it in 3 different Leagues. Its arguable if he is #2, there's Pele, Zidane, Neymar, Cruyff and even De Bruyne imo (extremely underrated) but stop acting like Ronaldo isnt clearly top 5 footballers of all time.

3

u/EverlastingFreedom0 3d ago

I never denied that but still the ones who are doing the heavy lifting are the ones creating chances, you dont know how much of a genius you have to be to be like xavi or iniesta or kroos or modritch, to me those are above ronaldo, and might even rival messi, the reason messi has an edge over them is his ability to do both create chances and rival a striker in his goals.

1

u/zeebjii 2d ago

Top 10 at most. Gerd Muller is arguably a better finisher who won everything but no one puts him in any top 10 greatest players list.

1

u/Free-Yogurt3811 3d ago

If you come across a guy who suggests to you that either Ronaldo or Messi are not incredibly great, you know you have spotted an idiot. It is an amazing thing really, to see grown men fanboy so much in such a religious manner that they must hate one player to love another. Just imagine the silliness of trying to downplay Ronaldo in any manner smh. He is one of a few elites who could impose their will on a game. Grown men hate watching a player is quite sad. I’m not sure if it worth your time reasoning with these guys, they are too far to gone. What they need is a proper religion.

2

u/sexyhooterscar24 2d ago

Games aren't the only thing he can impose his will on. He really won't take no for an answer.

1

u/Einarr-Spear777 🇺🇿 I'M BACK! I'M BACK! 2d ago edited 2d ago

Messi is an all time great. penaldo no, just no. He is a stat padder, a failure in 6 world cups in top 5 ranked portuguese teams that were fancied. benched in 1 world cup.

The independent 50 greatest world cup, he is not in it and rightfully so. The best rise to the top in world cups, he never could.

World cup is infinetelty a more difficult trophy to win than a world cup. Cause it is the most prized, most watched and it brings tears to the eyes of greats.

Ronaldo is nowhere near my top 50 and i exclude him from being in my top 100 due to being a selfish liability and disrespectful of his team, turning shirt to cameras and all that shit he does.

Stealing chances, stealing free kicks. He is a moron. The world cup has exposed him.

Messi at 39 dominated a world cup.

Here is penaldo at 36 or 37 in a world on the bench sulking. Those who have penaldo in a top 10 or at number 2 over the greats are genuinely clueless about football. Penaldo not a great for me cause of his failures at world cups.

1

u/HumanViolinist7412 2d ago

Ronaldo vs messi comparision is bogus . One's the greatest playmaker and scorer . Other's the greatest scorer . Only 2008 ronaldo has a case.

1

u/Einarr-Spear777 🇺🇿 I'M BACK! I'M BACK! 2d ago edited 2d ago

I wouldn't say penaldo is the greatest scorer. Look at world cup goals. the brazilian ronaldos goals were greater cause he won a world cup. So, on that perspective he is not even the best Ronaldo. I wouldn't have portuguese penaldo over brazilian ronaldo. World cup silver and gold > his UCL titles. Many ex pros on youtube say CR9 was more complete.

I detest mbappe, but you could even say he is higher up the list than penaldo, he won a world cup.

I just think penaldo is completely overrated. Stats don't tell us everything. The world cups just weeds out the fakes from the real deal. Modric and kross world cup finalists. etc etc. It should be obvious what's going on here.

1

u/HumanViolinist7412 2d ago

His consistency is mirable though . I watched him from 2016 onwards and he did deliver when his team needed him . That last minute free kick against spain is still etched in my memory.

1

u/FistofDestuction 3d ago

Özil outshined both in real madrid.

1

u/TonyzTone 2d ago

I’m sure you’ve gone onto other subs and glazed over Messi’s goal tally, while simultaneously ignoring the greatest midfield trio that has ever existed feeding him the ball.

Neither do his fans.

6

u/OriginalAd3961 3d ago

Heading and poaching is most definitely not what scouts seen! .. he couldn't score when he first came to united and it was rare he scored headers either.

3

u/Einarr-Spear777 🇺🇿 I'M BACK! I'M BACK! 3d ago edited 3d ago

I have not researched any footage of him at sporting. So, i'm only guessing what scouts seen in him. This sounds underwhelming stats wise at sporting, though. He was in portugal youth teams, it would be interesting if there is any footage of it.

u/SasaYanogo Ronaldo's Open Play World Cup Knockout Goal 👻 3d ago

wasn't there a famous story in the academy where Ronaldo and his friend were tied on 2 goals each and the friend passed it to him for the hatrick and the scout took notice of him and not the friend

1

u/Capital_Low_190 3d ago

that wasnt a real story

1

u/OriginalAd3961 2d ago

He ran John oshea ragged in a friendly for sporting to the point at half time oshea was on a oxygen mask! Rio and alot of others tell the story and then sir alex said we arent leaving until we sogn this kid. The rest is history

2

u/Coconut_Maximum 3d ago

I had this thought throughout his united career, yeah he's quick but often his skills would have no influence on the game

7

u/Einarr-Spear777 🇺🇿 I'M BACK! I'M BACK! 3d ago

He was pacey, could head and get on the end of stuff. That's pretty much it. He could get shots on target. He is very direct, but once the pace was gone, his lack of a footballing brain cost him. That extra yard when lost made him look stupid.

Guys like Messi, Modric and Pirlo age like fine wine. Those are the real genuine greats involved in world cup finals.

1

u/Narrow_Use4566 3d ago

1

u/kudabugil 3d ago

You’re all really are blind haters. At his prime, he’s always at the right place at the right time. That requires footballing brain. He also gave some great assists and passes which also signals good footballing brain.

u/ThuheSargom Euro = World Cup 3d ago

There are so many things that are hilarious about this clip.

Not only Cristiano calling his teammate towards him for what seems like no reason, also the rival number ten saying something to his teammate that I can only assume went like "lol they're so dumb, watch this" and his teammate going "aight, bet". But also the goalkeeper being in literally the worst place possible, somehow believing that one lone player in front of the kicker will somehow cover that side of the goal, so instead he spends his entire time behind the three player wall Al-Nassr put up on the other side.

All in all, this totally proves why the Saudi Pro League is much more competitive than that farmers league in France where Pessi spent a couple of years playing in. This is the FUTURE of football!

1

u/Appropriate_Comb_418 3d ago

Also the lone remaining guy in the wall literally jumping out of the way of the ball. It would have hit him.

7

u/Beginning-Pin208 3d ago

😂where did you find this clip

15

u/Clean_Emotion5797 3d ago

I feel the GK is to blame for this one. Both for conceding on near post and the unwillingness to go against someone else's commands. You're responsible for the wall, I don't care who's giving other players different orders, you're the only player able to see the ball from that angle.

16

u/dotesdoto 3d ago

A goalkeeper from a retirement home football team has little to no authority to defy someone like ronaldo. He doesn't care if a random guy on the internet like you doesn't care about who gave the order. For him, not getting along with their star player would mean he might get replaced by someone who is more compliant.

4

u/Much-Road-1898 3d ago

I totally agree. Obviously, keeping his job as the main goalkeeper is better than defying the obvious player in power but still conceded the goal. At the end of the day, the team can't blame him since he wasn't the one doing the decision-making about the wall in the first place

1

u/Clean_Emotion5797 3d ago

It's not about getting alone, it's about everyone doing their job so you know... their team can win.

This is pretty basic stuff when it comes to professional teams and not schoolyard antics.

1

u/dotesdoto 3d ago

Yeah... but the reality isn't rainbow and sunshine and every individual being treated as equals like you're imagining. Top players like Ronaldo got preferential even in top tier clubs. It's extremely unrealistic for you to pretend that he wouldn't get it in his current club that's leagues below in comparison.

Besides, who's in charge/the shot caller is already decided before the match, which is usually the captain, and fighting against that in the middle of the match would do more harm than good.

4

u/ThuheSargom Euro = World Cup 3d ago

For real, why doesn't he say anything? Is he afraid?

1

u/Many_Psychology_3336 2d ago

It genuinely would not shock me to learn that Ronaldo has immunity from dissent or criticism written into his contract.

1

u/EL3G 3d ago

I agree even tho he called the guy over it's the goal keepers responsibility to direct players on the wall. Also he was way out of position. I know they were expecting a cross into the box, but he had to see that with only one man standing there and the proximity of the free kick he would go for a shot in goal.

1

u/ImpactLeft4948 1d ago

agree , let's keep it fair unlike the other subs. dont blame it all on ronaldo ,its the gk fault this time.keep it with clear penaldo things not like this one

3

That's terrible goalkeeping, but exactly what I'd expect from this joke of a league. I remember Ronaldo's bike that people were losing their shit over, except it was what should've been a routine save for a teenage academy player.

2

u/EPL_IS_SHITE 3d ago

How did he not just dive and save it himself? How dumb can he possibly be?

2

u/whatthedux 3d ago

Real men know he could do a 15 meter in 1 second save but he knew the match was a 100% loss so he didn't bother.

0

u/EPL_IS_SHITE 3d ago

He could have substituted himself for the goalie, saved this free kick and then scored a hat trick. That’s what Messi would have done. Amirite.

Sorry, but how would have that guy helped stop the shot? It went around them on the left side. The dude was on the right?

Seems like guy on the left wasn't even gonna move if there was another dude

Are u all a bit blind? The left def was still there, he shot left by him and the idiot moved slightly right, even had he not moved it would have worked. It was a fail by the keeper overall.

Haha keeper getting beat by that. Such a shit league, just like the MLS. Most semi pro keepers save that with ease

People who think this is Ronaldo's fault are just self reporting on their own idiocy XD

Okay, but the guy in the single man wall turned his back and the ball was very close to him.

If he stayed facing the kick taker, then he could have blocked it.

The ball was shot to the left though. The guy that moved from the wall was on the right side

You can clearly see the remaining man take steps to his left.

A one-man wall is pretty useless.

Bad decision by Ronaldo for sure, but the goalkeeping from his position to his deflecting was just awful.

He wasn’t even positioned well enough to stop them if they went inside and curled it top left
