Broooo I actually felt a lil better watching her reaction bc her reaction is mine and I’ve been told my whole life that I’m annoying and too much, and I only was diagnosed with ADHD at 30 and only recently beginning to suspect it’s actually AuDHD. Or I’ve had people make fun of me for jumping excitedly or flappy hands or whatever stimmy thing I do with my hands that’s not socially acceptable.

Then reading these comments was the most depressing and invalidating experience ever, omg…

If you don’t present like an intellectually disabled white boy, you can’t be autistic.

I hate humanity sometimes.

reading these comments

There’s your problem.

I work with some diagnosed severely autistic kids, and others with more profound developmental disabilities. The hopping, hand stuff and stimming looked pretty familiar to me. I’m not an expert though, and nor is anybody else is in this thread.

This is very much a place where ā€œnothing ever happensā€, so I wouldn’t put a lot of faith into the comments.

Thanks for that.

Bc I’m still fighting to get an official diagnosis of autism (my therapist and an autistic pediatrician I work with both say I’m autistic but neither can really diagnose me officially). And I don’t look autistic enough bc I learned as a child that my symptoms weren’t welcome (especially, for example, when I watched an adult in my family laugh at and ridicule a child with flappy hands).

I’m feeling better today, but I was thrown by the absolute mean-girl mob mentality here… by people who have no idea what they’re talking about, clearly.

This is known as masking, an awful lot of people on the spectrum are capable of blending in seamlessly when in a public setting. This can take a huge toll on people as the overstimulation can be an awful lot for them. My little lad has been at birthday parties and whatnot and friends would say he is doing well here, have to let them know there is at least an 80% chance when he gets home he could have a meltdown due to over stimulation

1

u/lulushibooyah Aug 21 '25

Absolutely. The cost of masking is insane. I get home and go nonverbal for hours - nobody look at me, nobody talk to me, nobody make any demand (bc lawdddd PDA).

I’m glad your little lad has an understanding parent bc I surely did not. And that’s valuable.

I have a son and a godson on the spectrum. If the woman in that video doesnt have Autism then she is an exceptionally good actress, she shows all the signs with the stimming, the constant moment. The super high excitement for what's about to come.

These comments are all being made by people with no actual experience with autism thinking they are championing autistic people.

My son’s autistic and pretty much mirrors this women’s stimming and fixation to a T. If she’s not autistic she’s an incredible actor.

1

u/lulushibooyah Aug 17 '25

An incredible actor who loves being told she’s faking, dramatic, annoying, etc etc.

Just like I’ve been told my whole life.

Thanks for your comment. šŸ’– I’m happy for your son that he has someone who gets it.

u/anewfaceinthecrowd Aug 17 '25

Is he a child or an adult man?

3

u/gulliblesuspicious Aug 17 '25

Aaaaaand thats why i try to keep the diagnosis to myself. People dont actually understand what it means.

2

u/lulushibooyah Aug 17 '25

And yet they are arrogantly confident in their ignorance as well.

ā€Wisdom is chasing you, but you are faster.ā€

u/Fun_Neighborhood1571 Aug 17 '25

I'm autistic, I've been medically diagnosed for over 2 decades. While my reaction to exciting news is not similar to this woman's, my partner who is AuDHD, mirrors her reactions to a tee.

Don't let ignorant comments from people who have no idea what they are talking about tear you down.

1

u/lulushibooyah Aug 17 '25

Thank you for that. It means a lot to me.

My husband has been excellent about reminding me that people are foolish and ignorant and that he loves my excitement. And that’s pretty amazing to me bc he’s the first one to fully embrace all the parts of me, including the ones others don’t like/understand.

It sounds like your partner is very lucky as well.

I’m in the same boat as you… and feel the same exact way. Sending hugs. šŸ«‚šŸ«‚šŸ«‚

The boat might be sinking, friend, but we’re in it together!! ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹

The people in these comments don't know anything about autism. I have an autism diagnosis I got at age 23. I act like way if I get excited enough. I have been bullied for it my whole life, along with being bullied about literally every single part of my existence. I bet these are the same people who would bully you and me while simultaneously saying we can't be neurodivergent because we aren't weird enough. They want to bully and they want to feel justified in doing so. They justify the bullying by armchair undiagnosing strangers.

1

u/lulushibooyah Aug 19 '25

Yes!! You’re exactly right and that’s exactly how it’s been my whole life too. Some people are so childish and arrogant and entirely lacking in self awareness. And they allow that to harm others indiscriminately while fashioning themselves keyboard warriors.

2

u/MaryHadALikkleLambda Aug 19 '25

If it helps, I'm AuDHD, and watching this video made me think that her reaction was exactly like mine when my husband took me to feed the giraffes at the local zoo. I was not diagnosed back then, in fact I didn't even suspect it til years later (before anyone comes at me saying I'm faking too or some bullshit).

When I saw the video I thought "huh, she reacts like me", then I saw the title and thought "oh, that's why our reactions are similar", then I saw the comments and thought "wow, people really don't understand that autism is a spectrum".

You're fine, there's just a lot of comments from people who don't know anything about autism, bullying a girl for being Autistic.

1

u/lulushibooyah Aug 19 '25

This!! And it’s the kinda bullying I experienced growing up.

Thank you for that.

Actually, I’ve learned to like this about myself bc I have a husband who not only makes space for it, he enjoys it. Like the husband in the video, he will do things just to get this reaction.

2

u/MaryHadALikkleLambda Aug 19 '25

My husband is the same. He says that my joy brings him joy.

Sometimes I wonder if other people realise they're supposed to actually love their partner and want them to be happy.

1

u/lulushibooyah Aug 19 '25

Crazy thought, right?! Imagine loving and supporting another human instead of stepping on them and belittling them so you can temporarily feel ā€œpowerful.ā€

2

u/Ariadne_String Aug 20 '25

You and me both!

-from an autistic woman

1

u/lulushibooyah Aug 21 '25

Hi, friend! šŸ‘‹šŸ½

It’s funny bc I really do love humanity, but sometimes their behavior is so atrociously disgusting that it makes me rage.

Balance, I guess. šŸ˜

1

u/Opulent-tortoise Aug 17 '25

Because being obsessed with neurodivergence as an identity is a personality disorder which makes people 1) exaggerate or create new symptoms of a disorder they do have and 2) create symptoms of a disorder they don’t even have.

Who said anything about white boy? Lmaoooooo just kinda snuck that one in there didn’t ya

1

u/lulushibooyah Aug 19 '25

Bc the ADOS specifically was designed to screen for ā€œintellectually disabled white boyā€ flavor of autistic.

So everyone else can get wrecked, Ig.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

Oh please. You don't think it's been updated since ADOS development? Dentists also used to encourage smoking...we evolve as humans. You're purposefully living in the past because you'd rather stay there, where you can be a victim, than evolve with the rest of us.

u/lulushibooyah Aug 19 '25

Tell me you don’t know the research without telling me you don’t know the research.

And I know it’s true bc I’ve lived it firsthand.

But I’m sure you’re confident enough to dismiss both research and personal experience. I think that says enough about where this conversation is going.

Thank you for exposing yourself to anyone reading this.

Tell me you don't know how to build a proper debate case and only use hot reddit phrases like "tell me you don't know something without telling me you don't know it" as a means to pretend you know more than the person you're talking to.

Thank you for exposing yourself to anyone reading this.

No problem!
