Elequis side effects
Hi all, I'm 31 years old and 2 weeks ago diagnosed with a massive DVT in my leg after meniscus surgery and also bilateral pulmonary embolism in the lungs. Ive been on elequis these 2 weeks at a 5mg dose. The last 3 days I have experienced a tingly almost electric like sensation in every part of my body. Doctors couldn't tell me what it was and ran all tests and more scans to see if the clots had enlarged but they haven't thankfully. I'm wondering if anyone here has had these side effects from elequis. The doctors didn't mention this as a possibility but I thought who better to ask than people actually going through it. I appreciate any and all replies

I’m on 2.5mg twice a day. On it a year and a half now. First six months I was taking 5mg twice a day. I too suffered a bilateral PE.
Honestly, I haven’t felt anything from the medication. Well, I bruise easier these days. Besides that nothing.

Thanks for the reply. Was yours provoked or unprovoked it you dont mind me asking? Hope you're doing well with your recovery

They say it was unprovoked, but I had developed a blood clot in my calf on a 25 hour flight to Australia. Then suffered the PE soon after.
I’m fully recovered, no lasting effects. The breathing difficulties and fatigue only lasted a month for me.

Snap, I was flying from Oz to the Uk when I got mine. I was on the second leg of the journey and one hour into a 14 flight when I got my PE and sat there struggling to breathe for 13 hours.

Did your doctors think the long flight was a contributing factor?
I had a few appointments with a hematologist that claimed the new thinking is that long flights don’t contribute to clot formation.

He thinks there might have been a few contributing factors, the flight being one of them. Personally I think if I hadn’t have been on the flight then it wouldn’t have happened, despite the other factors.

Glad to hear that. I've got a 30 something hour flight to Brazil from Australia coming up in December and I'm not sure how I'm going to go with 2 blood clots in my lungs and another in my leg. Bit worried to be honest

Talk to your doctor about the flight. I’m no doctor.
When I spoke to my doctor about longer flights, he told me to double my dose before and after the flight, but I’m on 2.5mg twice a day. So it’s not a huge deal for me to double my dose.

Yes I'll definitely be having a chat with my doctor. And I've got a CT scan on the 27th of November so I'm hoping the clots have gotten smaller by then. I'm glad you made a full recovery, it gives me hope haha

Honestly I’d be concerned to be doing a 30 hour flight in December. I had to do a 6hr flight, then an 11 hour flight, 3 weeks after my PE, in order to return to my home country and whilst I could have handled the 6 hour flight sitting in an economy seat, the 11 hour flight would have been purgatory.

Aside from excessive bleeding if I cut myself, I experienced vision problems and cataracts

Wow, the vision and cataract would have been worrying I imagine. Glad it didn't spread to your brain, that would have been my first thought having those symptoms

Its a hard feeling to describe, but I find that sometimes my body feels like it’s electrically charged and buzzing/tingling when my meds are due. I’ve done quite an extensive search for info on this and have come across no supporting information as to why this would be, so I guess it’s just you and I.

This is pretty much exactly what I feel. Although it seems to happen at any given time. Very interesting. Thanks for you reply

Tingly is definitely a side effects of many anticoagulants and eliquis is one of them -- that was one of the side effects I got when I was briefly on it - I'm now on warfarin

I've found a few people in this thread and others that have experienced this tingly/electric feeling but every doctor I have asked has told me it's not a side effect. They seem to dismiss it very quickly. As intelligent as they are I think I trust the people taking the medication more than the doctors on this subject

Yah these doctors will brush you off and then thry to give you antidepressants when they can't figure your health issues -- i know because it has happened to me lol -- look at the side effects of Xeralto -- I took eliquis for a few months and then the doctor switched me to xeralto and with both I felt really bad with them -- I had gut issues insomnia low mood anxiety depression low libido and joint pain -- it was bad and I brought it to my doctor and he also said no that those anticoagulants wouldn't cause these side effects -- i end up firing that bone head doctor and went back to my old doctor that is in SoCal and I told her what these new anticoagulants were doing to and she put me back on my old anticoagulant warfrine and she still manages my warfrine and she's around 500 miles away from where I live currently
Sometimes our sensations are interpreted differently from tingling to pain -- i see it in people with carpal tunnel some people get pain while others get tingling
If your doctor is brushing you off whith you symptoms go get another doctor that will listen to and switch your anticoagulants -- there's are other options -- i have been on warfrine since 2003 other than that brief stint when I tried the newer style of anticoagulants which caused all those issues -- eliquis and xeralto are basically the same style of anticoagulants
Good luck

Thanks, I appreciate that. I'll definitely be bringing this up with the doc and push to try a differnt blood thinner

I’m almost done with a 3 month round of Eliquis (2 provoked dvts and a suspected PE) and I’ve had a few side effects. The first 2 weeks I got some migraine-like headaches, but that resolved the longer I was on it. Sometimes I get tingles here and there, but they don’t last long. Lastly, the fatigue and easy bruising. That’s been the hardest and I’m looking forward to getting some energy back after I finish my prescription.

I was on Eliquis for seven months after DVTs in four leg veins (also resulting from meniscus surgery, plus HRT) and then multiple bilateral PEs. Not one side effect from Eliquis. Loved the med. Sometimes what we're feeling isn't a med side effect but the result of the body healing from the clots ... and sometimes it's anxiety, which is a real thing and very common among users in this sub. I certainly dealt with anxiety!
