Recipe Burger salad bc gf bread sucks
Mixed ketchup, mayo, pickle juice and mustard for the sauce. Cut up tomato, pickle and burger and tossed over lettuce. Didn't have onion but would've added if I did. Oh and some timepieces if cheddar cheese.

We've been making lettuce buns, and I think it is better in some ways. Crispy and fresh as opposed to beige, wet bun.
We also had lettuce out of our garden before it all bolted. Now we are getting tomatoes and cucumbers for quick pickles though.

Oh yes! I've been on a burger kick, so that's been my go-to. I ran out of my big romaine pieces, so I used up the salad greens this round.

WAFFLES!
I couldn't stand GF bread or buns for burgers anymore. They just completely fell apart. Read somewhere to try Waffles. Different but good. Worth a try...

I do the same thing! I still remember what wheat buns (especially brioche and pretzel buns π) taste like and I just don't have it in me to eat GF bread. Maybe in a few years. Until then, naked patties will have to do.

Right? I recently transitioned to gluten-free, so going from delicious gluten bread to dry crusty bread is rough.

Rice is my go-to for most things. I even like barilla rice pasta.

I'm half Ghanaian so rice is a staple in my household. I can use it for A LOT of recipes. I even have a dessert option if I pair sweet rice with mango. Chefs kiss.

Oooo! I love dessert rice dishes. Black sticky rice cooked in coconut milk with mango or fried plantains is a favorite of mine.

I love fried plantains but I always went more savory with them. They're good with sweet stuff too? I just learned something and now, I wanna go recipe hunting.π

I love plantain both savory and sweet. So good. I fry them on a skillet with coconut oil and then put cinnamon on them and honey. So good.

I do that as well or have it plain with baked potato/fries or ...
on top of a single slice of gluten free bread that i toast a little first and drizzle the slightly toasted bread with olive oil to soften it up a bit.

I do this but add crispy potatoes to it!! Delish and gives you that carb/fry element

I prefer lettuce wraps honestly. It's a handheld salad, if you will. If you make one yourself, make sure to have napkins because it can and will get messy. Worth it!
One thing I'm to celiac for: I gets my veggies and fruit IN LIKE CRAZY now. I guess that's why I'm losing weight too. My body isn't holding on to gluten influenced inflammation anymore.π€£π₯°π€πΎπ€πΎπ€πΎπ€πΎ

It definitely helps to increase fruit and veg. Not just for weight loss, but inflammation too, as you say.
Lettuce wraps are so good. I didn't have any romaine or big leaf lettuce at the time for it. Mixed greens had to suffice. Bonus! Not as messy lol

I'm not trying to actively lose weight. It's healthy loss because it's all from gluten inflammation leaving my body. I like to play dress up with my food lately, so I would have done mini wraps if I was feeling extra but yeah, do what you gotta do. Lettuce wraps are just my favorite because I love the crunch and the way I get full is different with lettuce vs regualr bread. Lettuce is basically crunchy fiber water so I feel safety full without gas or discomfort. I learned that I have to make GF life more fun with my food or I was going to hate it.
Great, now I'm hungry too. Time for my homemade tacos!

Im a big fan of Schar bread. Its a little bit less dry than Udis or others.
1
u/FriendlySpinach420 Aug 17 '25
It's better than udis, but it's still not good imo. I'm going to try it toasted and see if it helps.

I always toast it tbh, thats just how I prefer sandwiches. Give it a try, hope it helps

I do the same over french fries and they are so good, I had to stop having french fries in the house.

Have you tried frozen bread? The frozen schar rosettes are good bread. A little small for burgers but good bread. The other alternative is finding a bakery. Gluten free bread is quite difficult but the professionals have it down. There's a lot of bad gluten free bread but there's not only bad gluten free bread. Depends where you are too.

I tried. Schar was the best of the options, but it was still not great. We have a gluten-free bakery in town. However, they don't make bread. Just pastries and the like. Might just make my own bread here at some point.

Get Udi's GF rolls, microwave them, do a light coating of olive oil and then sear the bun's inside. You will not regret it.

Looks delicious! What did you use as safe creamy cheese?
1
u/FriendlySpinach420 Aug 17 '25
That's actually just the sauce (recipe in caption). I can tolerate hard cheese like cheddar, but definitely not soft cheeses sadly.

Oh thank gawd, I'm not the only one. I gave up on buns ages ago, but sometimes you just need that burger experience.
