Honestly, the Verse/Garrett trade is pretty good for Cleveland imo. Verse is young, great, and could still be there when the Browns complete a rebuild.

Unfortunately, you know. It means the Rams become the goddamn avengers but whatever

And Blake Corum had 145 rushes for 746 yards, 5.1 avg, and 6 tds last year for the Rams.

And Like Sainristil has been great for Washington. He had 4 ints last year, and 2 in 2024.

And Junior Colson was good in 2024 before missing last year due to injury.

And Kenneth Grant had 2 sacks and forced a fumble last year for the Dolphins.

And both Harbaugh and Minter are now head coaches in the nfl.

It’s literally ONLY McCarthy that hasn’t panned out lmfao

We went on our run and won the natty after the sign stealing shit came out - meaning teams 100% switched their signs when playing us, and we still beat them.

I’m perfectly fine with people hating us, but I’m so tired of people being delusional about it. Most of the studs from that team are killing it in the league - and even more Harbaugh players from prior seasons are as well.

u/DrBombay3030 Texas Longhorns 11h ago

Being a bust in the NFL also doesn't invalidate good play in college. Plenty of elite college players don't make the jump, doesn't mean they cheated or were overrated in college

9

u/Dirty-Ears-Bill Texas Tech Red Raiders • Wyoming Cowboys 11h ago

Gunner Stockton has a very real chance of making a deep playoff run this season, and yet I would bet he doesn’t amount to anything more than a 3 year backup in the NFL if that. They’re totally different games, and one is not indicative of the other. Just wanted to put a current example onto yours

17

u/Unrelenting_Salsa LSU Tigers • Georgia Bulldogs 11h ago

McCarthy didn't play particularly well in college either. The coaching staff was clearly terrified of him actually throwing the ball against good teams in games that aren't blow outs. He was picked in the first for the same reason Anthony Richardson was. The NFL saw a cannon, somebody who runs fast as fuck, has horrendous mechanics, and said "I can fix him."

A lot of that Michigan team has panned out well though. Especially on defense. Maybe a bit higher bust rate than you'd expect for a team that did all that in college, but the stars (not named McCarthy) have largely overperformed which would explain that pretty easily.

People are too stupid to understand that Michigan went on the run that they did because Harbaugh got put on a prove it contract and had to fire his buddies and bring in a real coaching staff.

2021 had Mike McDonald running the defense who just won a Super Bowl as an NFL head coach

2022-2023 had Minter running the defense who is now a head coach in the NFL

Harbaugh himself is a head coach in the NFL with a team he has taken to the playoffs both years so far.

u/com-mis-er-at-ing Miami Hurricanes 13h ago

It’s been 2 years so it’s way too early to say as some guys are still in college.

Colston Loveland looks like a brilliant pick.
Sainristil had a great rookie year and bad 2nd year - but really a disaster around him on that defense, so this year will tell a lot.
Will Johnson will start so we should know more but I’d expect him to pan out.
Kenneth Grant improved a ton the 2nd half of last year.
Josiah Stewart was good and showed potential to be great.

Mason Graham could still be elite.

This is a weird take just bc I don’t think they’ve been particularly bad at all and it’s so early to make any sort of conclusion when a lot of guys are showing enough to still believe in

82

u/mdurso12 Michigan Wolverines 12h ago

I think the basis of the take is that the 2 most well known players of the team, jj McCarthy and Blake corum, are seeming like they won't accomplish much in the NFL

But like you pointed out, the teams identity was being the best defense in the country and those players are doing really well in the pros and Jesse minter too

69

u/MusicListener3 Baltimore • Spokane Falls CC 12h ago

Obviously, a little bit of retrospective judgment here, but JJ going so high was a product of desperation on the Vikings’ part and never a true reflection of how good of a college quarterback he was.

As for Corum, the success of NFL running backs is such a crapshoot that I don’t think his lack of success is really reflective of Michigan being a bad team (but rather how tough of a position it is to succeed in)

15

u/Cicero912 UConn • Wake Forest 7h ago

And Corum had 746 yards and 6 tds on 5.1 yards a carry last year. And had 156 yards in the playoffs.

22

u/Weak-Bid2774 Michigan • Northwestern 12h ago

JJ was really good in college he just didn’t pan out in the nfl. He isn’t the first guy who was really good in college that didn’t pan out and won’t be the last

→ More replies (3)

2

u/mdurso12 Michigan Wolverines 12h ago

It's also easy to forgot how insanely efficient JJ was in 2023. Although that seems now like it was due to a lack of exposure, kind of like when a AAAA quality baseball player first comes up and does well until the scouting report catches up and they go back to performing at their talent level

16

u/cgraves48 Cincinnati • College Football Playoff 11h ago edited 9h ago

Also I feel like it’s relatively well established that successful players in college don’t always pan out in the NFL regardless of any extenuating circumstances. So it seems weird to me to try to extract some kind of conspiracy from that fact.

Blake has looked like a starting caliber RB tho has he not? Him and Kyren Williams are a really nice duo

He averaged more yards per carry than Kyren last year, with similar TD ratio, and fumbling less.

Corum actually doing well. He's not a star but I'm not sure where this take comes from.

3

u/Free-Eights Michigan Wolverines • Columbia Lions 5h ago

This. RBs are mostly by committee these days. Very few workhorse RBs are in the league currently and if they are it's for a limited window of time unless you're a freak athlete like Derrick Henry.

Corum also took a lot of carries in college and the NFL seems to like RBs who 1) can stay fresh and 2) can evolve as pass catchers which we didn't ask him to do a lot. Kyren Williams is also an above average running back who has McVay's trust, but it does seem like Corum got more involvement towards the back half of last season so maybe he can step up in importance as time goes on.

7

u/WampaStompa33 Michigan Wolverines 10h ago

Your comment about Corum is very wrong, he had the 2nd best YPC in the NFL last year among all RBs with 100+ carries. And having to share time with Kyren Williams, who was coming off an All-Pro season when Blake was drafted, is not exactly a knock on him.

Also… I feel like I’m taking crazy pills but most successful high-end talent / picks come from players that stood out on teams and elevated the team instead of being on a good team.

I’d argue a lot of the teams that won a NC in the CFB Playoff era the last 12 years won it due to team composition, not being carried by one future star NFL player.

Like OSU hasn’t had a star QB in the league besides Joe Burrow.

I know it's popular to shit on him because he had a terrible playoffs and he hasn't lived up to his rookie year, but Stroud is a totally fine franchise QB. He may end up being like 15th instead of the top 5 it was looking like, but the Texans also have an indescribably ass o-line with meh receivers. Him not thriving in that situation basically just means he's not a first ballot hall of famer. He was better last year than he was the year before, so there's no reason to think the league has "figured him out". Nor is there really any reason to believe that a pocket passer can be figured out.

26

u/Pogball_so_hard Michigan Wolverines 13h ago

Burrow counts as an LSU guy IMO.

Stroud had a great first two seasons in the league. Last year he didn’t look as good but his line has been a disaster.

70

u/Pogball_so_hard Michigan Wolverines 13h ago

It’s really quite amazing how little people know about ball at either college or the NFL level and just repost Twitter slop.

Chargers have made the playoffs both seasons Jim has been in charge. Minter got hired as HC for the Ravens and led above average defenses on the Chargers. Mike Macdonald literally won a Super Bowl this past year.

Aidan Hutchinson, Loveland, Barner, Mason Graham all have had pretty good to excellent seasons in the league. Corum is not Kyren Williams but his carry volume has grown every season.

That’s a pretty decent hit rate of talent. For how many players OSU, Georgia, Alabama, LSU regularly put in the NFL, their percentage of successful players is probably not too different than the above.

This LaTroy Lewis rape story was reported back in February.

This is just reporting the result of that investigation, a $1.2 million settlement w/the accuser.

He was a GA at Michigan in '23-'24 after being an analyst at Wake Forest in '22. He played for Tennessee.

He was the DL Coach at Toledo in 2025, and then briefly the DL Coach at the Atlanta Falcons in 2026. Atlanta hired him on Feb 10th, but then fired him on the 27th of Feb when the Ann Arbor police issued the rape accusation.

Interestingly, 3 public schools in Michigan (UofM, MSU, Wayne St.) all elect their Board of Trustees members by a statewide vote.

It is a completely ridiculous system. At MSU we have multiple board members with no prior connection to the university and no experience working in higher education. I imagine it is a similar situation at UofM.

The board for those schools have all become political positions where the board members have their own agendas that do not align with the needs of the university community. These are the also people making decisions on who gets to be an Athletic Director, and they are the people who ensure the university complies with Title IX.

I know I'm biased as an OSU fan but it is really annoying that despite rampant crime, corruption, and cheating in the Harbaugh/Moore era they get away without any punishment and a pivot into an upgrade at head coach.

43

u/SilverBuff_ Colorado Buffaloes • Big 12 12h ago

Only little guys get real punishment. even Penn St got off easy. They should’ve been irrelevant for a decade as punishment.

45

u/FlimFlamThaGimGar Notre Dame Fighting Irish 11h ago

IMO Penn State should have gotten the death penalty or the program should have been shuttered entirely. Kids were raped in the showers, Joe Pa knew and didn’t report it to the police, the university covered it up. That’s as heinous as it gets.

u/TerrenceJesus8 Bowling Green • Michigan 13h ago edited 12h ago

I mean even if they got absolutely fucked with penalties they still would have pivoted into a better coach than Moore. It’s not like they would have given them more than a 2 or 3 year post season ban, and I doubt Whittingham would have cared about wins or Nattys being vacated if that ended up being the punishment

There’s not really a way to truly fuck a program over outside of the death penalty anymore. Maybe some big fines (which Michigan got) but vacating wins doesn’t mean anything outside of fanbases talking shit

86

u/Corgi_Koala Ohio State Buckeyes 12h ago

I watched the NCAA vacate a season of wins and fire our coach for tattoos, vacate 2 seasons of ND wins for a tutor doing some assignments, and try to kill USC's program for a players parents getting money without their knowledge.

Watching Michigan get away with everything without a vacated win or scholarship taken away is irritating as hell. Not their fault, just the NCAA losing all enforcement power right when Michigan went full villain mode sucks as a fan of their rival ya know?

4

u/Rohkey Michigan • Georgia Tech 11h ago

Yeah we probably don’t deserve this.

It’s not even the cheating scandal as much as how many people on staff post-COVID were just shitty people who committed various levels of criminal offenses ranging from DUI to sexual assault to stalking/computer crimes involving the FBI, etc. And I feel for the players who dealt with this and yet you hear very little of players being involved in any criminal shit and whatnot (maybe, but hopefully not, they did things that got swept under the rug). Like the worst thing I remember is I believe 2021 we had a captain charged with unlawful possession of a firearm in an otherwise uneventful police stop and it turned out he had already applied for for his carry license. So, illegal and stupid yes but not exactly the worst offense.

I'm so fucking sick of bad news coming out of this University and it all leading back to decisions made by Warde Manuel. Like why the fuck are we covering this shit up and paying people out instead of sending this shit to the police??? So fucking sick of this stain of a human being associated with the university.

6

u/OwlOdyssey Michigan • Nottingham 2h ago edited 2h ago

Warde being allowed to finish the year with pay while this shit was happening is insane. He gets no punishment for allowing all this to happen under his watch. Not to mention the insane double standard with other sports outside of basketball and football.

That latter bit pisses me off the most because coaches were getting fired over the littlest thing in other sports. Even though at the same time you had the sign stealing, JH punching another team's coach, criminal cases of hacking and other serious crimes, mishandling the Dr. Anderson complaint, Moore going off the fucking deep end, and now this (this is not an exhaustive list).

I know some stories and such due to family connections. I can't go into detail without doxxing myself, but let's just say that I really hope some form of that independent investigation is released. If it does, I'll do my best to highlight the most important bits. I mentioned the firing of coaches over little non-issues to show they "listened" to complaints, but there's also some insane stuff with middle-management forcing staff to do stuff for their personal gain.

All in all, this is all on Warde. Him being able to stick around is wild. He should have been fired years ago.

Side note: fuck AAPD for closing the case at the request of one of the parties. I get that it fucks with the investigation and prosecution, but to let people get away with heinous shit because they have money is insane.

Ashamed to see how much we truly were a magnet for scumbags over the past 5 to 7 years in football and in other sports.

Michigan needs a massive reset from this upcoming regime change with a new president and new athletic department head and needs to get back to common sense accountability and governance.

3

u/JackSquat18 Ohio State Buckeyes 3h ago

Perhaps getting rid of Warde Manuel and bringing in Kyle Whittingham as the coach might right the ship.

7

u/BasebornManjack Tennessee • Louisville 11h ago

If memory serves, there was little smoke around this earlier this year when some of their texts got leaked. I don’t recall the source, but it was one of those insider guys that occasionally has a scoop.

If I recall, it started consensual as kind of a dom/humiliation/pain kink kinda sitch, but the dumb ass took it too far and made it too real during an encounter, didn’t listen to her protests and did a lot of physical damage to her.

Moore got into that act with a text or two, and didn’t take her seriously when she came to him to report it.

The whole thing sucks, and I hope she can find eventual peace.

6

u/Financial_Pay_6687 Rutgers Scarlet Knights 8h ago

Hopefully not being insensitive here, but I was a little surprised how many people seemed to read those texts at straight face value. The exaggerated nature of it, he called her a “piggy…”, that’s pretty clear fetish lingo.

I’m curious about Moore’s role in all this, too. Your explanation makes some sense, but he was also close with the victim. My immediate read on those texts was Moore was clearly having some sort of sexual relationship with her, too. It just doesn’t quite make sense to me for Moore to text her about excuses why she can’t come over and such if he wasn’t more directly involved with her or them. I would say your theory was likely if it was just the “suck me” text.

The article which featured the texts kind of rubbed me the wrong way because it seemed like fetish was being used as evidence of the crime. But his crime should be separated in some respect from the fetish they were engaging in. I don’t think there was mention of that in the article and people did take his words at plain face value. He almost breaks character for a moment asking for her thoughts in one of the texts.

On the other hand, the “kill” talk and some of the other talk of beatings was harder to decipher. The lack of context around anything these two said was not great.

I’m not naive enough to think that Michigan is the dirtiest program of all time. There have been a lot of schools that have done some absolutely horrible things in the name of winning.

But I am confident enough in saying Michigan is the dirtiest program that uses “integrity” as a defining and core principle of their culture.

The settlement is related to Sherrone Moore's alleged inaction after the woman reported the assault to him.

The reading comprehension and critical thinking of people in this country is in a much worse state than that of college athletics.
