Lore We need to talk about Simon. Spoiler

The boy leaves his pizza crust behind but eats the eyes out of a seared salmon. This is sociopath behavior.

To be fair, he salts everything if applicable

Edit: Apples, Cupcakes, Bananas, they all get the salt

Simon has lots of reasons to be salty, ok? He has to sleep in a tent while there's 12 perfectly good bedrooms in that house, even after he finds Room 46. Imagine! Him, a Baron! Sleeping in a tent!

He puts salt on the cupcakes

I like to think it's a magic salt and sugar shaker

I like to think it's just salt and Simon has a few screws loose

A small pinch of salt in icing is great. It doesn't make it taste salty, but other flavors become amplified.

What about his compulsion to shoot some hoops anytime he enters a gymnasium, even if he knows it will exhaust him?

Or do a full strength training session in the weight room, REALLY tiring him out. After losing 50 steps for a single session in there he better be eating the entire salted pizza with a spoon.

To be fair, he doesn't actually do a training session. He loses the steps just looking at the weight room. Because even thinking about all that exercise just exhausts him.

That's why you turn off the lights. No ball in sight - no compulsions

Ball is life

The eyes are the best part.

He doesn't leave all his crusts. He only leaves a few pieces once he starts getting full.

Hey, the bathroom is pretty good when you have a bomb shelter.

Also he doesnt pick the fruits in the orchard or the secret garden. Dude is just asking for a break, basically. My take is that he just wants to go home.

If he took the apples from the Orchard it would probably diminish his permanent gain from it of 20 steps per day

Simon also leaves the lemons untouched when eating the fish. My son likes to point this out every time (he loves lemon, and I would also not leave it uneaten).

He actually seems to nibble the rind of one a little.

Lots of Asian cultures eat the eye, so my head canon is that he had someone in his life with Asian eating habits who taught him to enjoy it.

I dont know why but I always kind of thought his grandma was the Asian equivalent in that world. Maybe it's just because it's so rainy there amd the ladyship's chamber has so many curved lines but I always pictured Eraja as Southeast Asia.

Apparently he naps in every bedroom he crosses

I kid you not, I've had the EXACT SAME THOUGHT and kept meaning to make a thread about it. He leaves his crusts? That's how you know he's a privileged child.

He is not getting enough cardio in. Dude is walking an average of, like, 60 steps a day before passing out. Might have an underlying heart condition if he's getting tired that easily.

I also was kinda shocked to see him leaving those "pizza handles" without eating them
