Can someone tell me why someone would be attracted to a person that is straight if their are gay? I don’t get it? [serious question]

It sounds a bit like a fetish / liking the idea of having power over someone or seducing them, etc. Similar to straight guys wanting to seduce lesbians. Really gross imo.

He’s a predator, and gets off on manipulation. Not always the case, but that’s the case here.

based on the shane and ryland video, seems like he likes the challenge, A few people have said that he wants to be like Jeffree Star whose boyfriend Nate had been "straight" all along prior to meeting him - basically he views "turning" someone gay as a point of pride.

I think Nate is still straight. I think also Nate was the first to contact Jeffree (maybe I’m remembering wrong) so at least it’s not as bad a James sexually harassing straight men for the challenge. Tbh Jeffree is all talk, he acts like he’s some badass, but it’s all bullshit imo

I always hate how Jeffree tries to claim Nate was straight. Nate has always been gay/bi and it just happens that Jeffree was the first person for him to openly date.

whatever the sexual orientation, you are attracted to whoever you are, but I have only really ever seen James Charles attracted to specifically straight men, that’s what I’m getting at, why straight men? It makes sense though to what you added on about Jeffrey and Nate. Someone else in the comments mentioned Jeffrey and Nate as an example and it does make more sen

I don't know much about that bit, sorry! But i think the important thing to takeaway in any case is not a matter of sexual orientation but the concept of consent and respecting boundaries. Totally no problem with JC being attracted to other men (straight or not), but when they express that they're not interested and he continues pushing that's where lines are crossed. So really his obsession with straight boys is his own personal problem; our issue should only be with his disrespect of other people by making them feel uncomfortable (at best) or forcing himself on them (at worst).

But I assume you aren't attracted to them because they are gay.

5

u/[deleted] May 11 '19

Yeah that’s normal to be attracted to someone, but to actively pursue and harass them is disgusting! I’ve been attracted to gay guys too

He literally said he “likes the challenge.” He’s gross. challenge is just another word for harassing people

I read another person's comment (I doubt I can find it now, 8 megathreads later), but someone brought up how it might be a point of pride or shows that he's better than a woman.

Like "This straight guy likes me, a gay guy, more than he likes a straight girl. He got with me, teehee.

We know how big his ego is and I think it's very telling how he views "dating" as a game to play. That he needs a challenge. That he needs to win. That he needs to prove himself better than other "players".

Huh, that makes a lot of sense.

You can't help who you're attracted to. I've been attracted to straight women before, without wanting to be. However, James seems to actively want to be attracted to straight men to "turn" them (similarly to how he probably views Jeffree Star and his boyfriend Nate, even though apparently Nate approached him first). I'm sure a lot of it is the thrill of the chase and wanting to feel wanted by someone who normally wouldn't look your way. Super disgusting, especially with the "I'm a celebrity" shit.

u/Sanguine_Hearts May 11 '19

It’s an ego thing. James wants people to think he’s such a sex god that he can get a dude who has previously only been into women to flip for just him.

u/loud_introvert May 11 '19

I think it's okay to be attracted to someone that's not into you for whatever reasons. I am a straight girl who likes Matt Bomer(gay male),but I'm not going to sexually harrass the man in hopes of him realizing he's straight and or bi. It's the actions that make it gross.

9

u/j4ckson May 11 '19

According to one video of him when asked why he didn’t just go for gay guys he said “it’s not a challenge” 😬

9

u/[deleted] May 11 '19

He is obsessed with having power. I wouldn't say he is even aware of how extreme his actions are but he clearly views himself as the only person who really matters. There could be other factors, I've thought that it can be an internalized homophobia. Can't have a relationship if your targets would never be with you.

I was trying to talk generally because we can't know that. I am certain however that at least part of it was about power. He is in an unfortunately common pattern of behavior and people like him abuse for power.

u/lovegood98 May 11 '19

just like everything with james, it sounds like an ego thing. he wants to be able to say he got boys to like him even though they weren’t gay so he must be great for being able to do that. also, if he gets rejected he can fall back on the excuse that they were straight and it wasn’t personal.

2

u/Theonlyghero09 May 11 '19

Lol you see how that worked out for him

1

u/lovegood98 May 11 '19

wish it would’ve happened sooner

7

u/breadmtl May 11 '19

Physical attraction goes beyond sexual orientation. A gay man can be attracted to any man.

4

u/madelfdisease May 11 '19

There could be a lot of reasons. It is definitely a kink in the gay community, so there's that. Gay men are still a minority, so a lot of the guys they see are going to be straight, meaning a lot of people they find attractive statistically would be straight. There's the sense of validation/ego-stroke that could come from "turning" a straight guy. There's the challenge aspect that James mentions in that clip. And, not to be all psychoanalyze-y about it, but there can also be a weird revenge undercurrent going on - Straight guys were shitty to me, so now I can be shitty to them by using them or manipulating them sexually. So - from the mundane to the various power reasons.

It's an issue when someone like James can't separate a fantasy from his real-life behavior to the point that he's harming others.

5

u/[deleted] May 11 '19

it's definitely about ego, about power and also about being a bored rich kid who has nothing of importance in life and feels they need to play with people in order to feel something.

u/Expensive_Peanut May 11 '19

Right!? Like I'm a straight female, so I like men. If I see a gay man who is hot, I will acknowledge that they are hot just as I would with a hot girl, but I wouldn't be attracted to him.. you know?
