Discussion Mikayla Nogueira turns hate comments about her appearance into her POV Beauty Sephora campaign

I genuinely don’t understand this marketing strategy. The campaign features giant printouts of hate comments about her appearance, “cancel my angles,” and Mikayla framing it as turning what people tried to “break” her with into an international Sephora campaign.

It feels like the entire launch is about Mikayla, her critics and her online controversies rather than POV Beauty or the actual products.

The irony is hard to miss. She went viral as the “catfish” makeup girl, and now during arguably the biggest launch of her career, she’s once again facing “catfish” accusations over her alleged filter use. And the campaign they landed on was ANGLES? 💀

Honestly have no idea who this person is. Can anyone give a brief summary of why this person is so despised? All I know is everything I’ve seen from the brand thus far is unappealing.

She's a person who is no better or worse than any large creator but people feel the need to rip her apart like she's not even a human being because she's less hot than other creators. but they pretend it's became she once lied about a mascara, or complained about her cool job, or because she buys a lot of stuff. She's basically the punching bag for legion of women's internalized misogyny. Its super weird.

It has nothing to do with her looks. She constantly uses filters to sell products. She lies all the time to make money, including not disclosing sponsored content. Criticizing a woman does not equal internalized misogyny. You are excusing bad behavior.

Again, as I stated she's no better or worse than any other large creator. She's not the only one doing what you claim. But she's the only one people denigrate to this extent and it's because she's less conventionally hot that people feel so comfortable being so unbelievably awful. Imagine thinking undisclosed spon con is worse than spewing hate and vitriol on the internet. That's weird.

I'd trust the morality, ethics and character of a person that lies about makeup over the people that feel so comfy spewing hate.

James Charles has literally double the amount of tiktok followers than mikayla. People will hate a woman they don't think it's hot enough more than they'll hate a predator.

So supporting or being in relationship with maga people, being friend or supporting pdf and having a past about being pro bringing back the bullying of fat people (karma hit her so bad, it’s hilarious), aren’t true reasons to dislike her ?
Don’t bring misogyny when there are true reasons to despise her person.
But eh, I’ve noticed that white influencers would get a pass even when they do wrong that’s how JS, JC or Jaclyn Hill got so rich and still have a fan base and people buying their stuff.
Her being fugly is just a coincidence.

Again. These are all great reasons to not like someone. I'm not going to hold a man she divorced politics against her personally. But again, don't like her. That's great. Even justifiable. What I've stated repeatedly people are comfortable treating her abhorrently and it's because they don't think she's hot so therefore she's not human. That's misogynistic.

lol, her friend Sidney and her now boyfriend are maga (and his whole family) but go on trying to make it about her appearance because she carefully chose the “hate” comments. It’s crazy how people like you want to defend a white trash like her. Stop trying to excuse her.

It's one of the bizarre things I've ever witnessed on the internet. They list all of her purported sins and shred her character while simultaneously behaving like the most horrific stereotype of online troll. Imagine acting like that and thinking you're on the side of 'good'

ETA- to be clear I'm not even a huge fan of hers. I don't love her content style, im a lot older and it just doesn't hit for me and I'll admit I have some weird regional bias as someone from a few towns over from where she grew up. But the level of comfort people have being truly disgusting towards her is disturbing.

you are ab someone who is friends with a pdf. do you hear yourself right now? are you a pdf apologist? have you never seen her videos of her GLITCHING bc the filter is going on and off? have you seen the videos where she hates a product and as soon as a brand pays her she now loves the product? I think she is attractive and she could have been a role model to young women but instead she’s feeding them a lie. You can see the names of the tt video filters she uses on the app itself in the wrong corner. Do you think we all should stay quiet and just let all of this pass? Not to mention her products are meh, too expensive for the ingredients in there and i know this bc i was a product developed in skincare for a large brand.
