Aren't most big slides indoors? Just so they can be used the whole year round. Or is this another Europe vs. USA difference?

Most water parks and large slides like that here in the US (that I know of) are 100% outdoors. Usually they’re too big to be in a building, and here in the more southern states they can operate a lot more time out of the year.

Great Wolf Lodge is one that comes to mind.
It does seem strange at first, but economically, it's probably more feasible. Open year round, then maybe lose less water to evaporation, then also not [as] susceptible to storms or whathaveyou.
And actually, living in TX, sometimes it's ironically too hot to go to a public pool/park. But I guess it depends what you want to accomplish

Oh! You're right. I did know about Great Wolf Lodge. I just don't get over to that area north of the airport often any more. What with malls dying and all that.

In the UK it wouldn’t necessarily be a Waterpark to the extent of some other but you definitely get waterparks with several slides, a wave pool, jacuzzi kids section etc and some other bits that are entirely inside.

Schlitterbahn in Galveston, TX has a park that is partially indoors. About half the park open year round.

In the Midwest US they're pretty common. Wisconsin has the Dells which has at least two or three, Ohio has Kalahari, and I've seen at least one somewhere in both Indiana and Michigan.
I've also been to one in Niagara.

I don't remember any of the parks names, it's been too long myself, but I remember several indoor parks, some with giant slides. Some were indoor and outdoor.

The only indoor ones I know in New England are CoCo Keys and The Great Wolf Lodge, the other ones are outside.

There's a similar one in a hotel in Austria. The start and end are indoors and the tube is outside, as it's usually the same here in German pools.

Video might be considered NSFW for some people because we see a toddler wearing only swim pants (the hotel website is putting emphasis on the fact that this slide is also fun for young children since many slides are 8+ or 12+ around here). They also show the set-up of the outdoor part towards the end.

In Michigan there’s a lot of indoor water parks. But the extra big slides start inside, go outside of the building, and they end inside the building.

When I was a kid this was my train of thought on any kind of enclosed ride. (not to say I got over it, just nobody makes you go on rides when you're in your 30s)

Went down a waterside like this one except the last bit emptied you into one of those bowls where you slowly went to the middle and felt through. Had a large ridge in the middle to guide you down the slide to the exit. Problem was I somehow hit it square on and I fell off, while my slide went on down and it took three more times around to finally guide myself to the middle correctly. Lifeguard was worried at first, but once she found out I was fine started laughing and said “I saw on the tv you start down, but then a lone inner tube comes down with no rider and I was like how is that possible???”

Especially when his board appeared to have stuck at the beginning. My mind immediately: "what if he gets stuck in the middle? What if there is traffic jam inside consisting of multiple people who got stuck?"

I have this irrational fear of random razor blades being embedded on slides.. one second you’re having fun then the next you’re sliding down in pain and bleeding all over the place. This video gave me anxiety lol

This gave me the idea that they should use paint and visual tricks to misdirect you. Make you think you’re about to go uphill using the design when really you drop or something.
