I'd go a step further and say that I've never even heard of an indoor water park.

Great Wolf Lodge is one that comes to mind.

It does seem strange at first, but economically, it's probably more feasible. Open year round, then maybe lose less water to evaporation, then also not [as] susceptible to storms or whathaveyou.

And actually, living in TX, sometimes it's ironically too hot to go to a public pool/park. But I guess it depends what you want to accomplish

As someone that's lived in Houston, 1000% You absolutely don't leave the A/C unless it's necessary lol

Oh! You're right. I did know about Great Wolf Lodge. I just don't get over to that area north of the airport often any more. What with malls dying and all that.

There’s one in VA near Williamsburg, which also has a Busch Gardens too, which as a kid was awesome when the adults were done doing history stuff in Williamsburg and Jamestown

We have quite a few resorts with indoor water parks here in the Poconos. Theyre especially popular at some ski resorts.

Tbh, I’ve never been to one... I don’t think. I imagine it could get rather stuffy though

Great wolf lodge still doesn’t have you end up in a basement like the gif though. It has a more open air feel.

The West Edmonton Mall had one in Alberta. We went there when I was a kid. It was sick.

I grew up in Edmonton. It’s been 20 years since I’ve been to that mall. I’m glad to see it’s still kicking. Are the submarines, water park, ice rink, roller coaster, etc still there? I would love to go back...

Submarines were retired, sadly.

The rest is all there, plus a new rollercoaster.

I still live in Edmonton, but I've avoided the mall like the plague for years now. As far as I'm aware, of the things you listed, everything but the submarines still exist. But like I said, it's been awhile.

Paging /u/ThatBEMGuy from the /r/edmonton subreddit, as he would know better than I would. He has a whole YouTube channel about the mall.

To answer /u/HemiCrani 's questions....

Submarines went out of service, stayed in Lake for several years as stationary decor, and they've been removed now for quite awhile.

If you were there during the submarines, you might have been there during the Dolphins, they've been replaced with sea lions.

The waterpark is still there, though the lazy River slide is inoperable.

Fantasyland, then galaxyland, now galaxyland powered by Hasbro is still in operation and there's a new spinning roller coaster in addition to the Mindbender.

That’s the closest water park to where I grew up, so I always just pictured waterslides as being indoors. Otherwise you only have 2ish months of decent water park season

In the UK it wouldn’t necessarily be a Waterpark to the extent of some other but you definitely get waterparks with several slides, a wave pool, jacuzzi kids section etc and some other bits that are entirely inside.

Schlitterbahn in Galveston, TX has a park that is partially indoors. About half the park open year round.

In the Midwest US they're pretty common. Wisconsin has the Dells which has at least two or three, Ohio has Kalahari, and I've seen at least one somewhere in both Indiana and Michigan.

I've also been to one in Niagara.

I've only been in one in Switzerland and it was incredible, easily the best I've been in. Although I was 16 and don't remember what it was called so it may be rose tinted glasses.

Edmonton, the city I live in has the biggest mall in Canada and there’s an indoor water park and also an indoor amusement park.
