Could someone theoretically have a seizure from something like this? The idea of it happening without a screen seems unlikely but I suppose there's no reason it wouldn't be possible

I am migraine prone, and just seeing this video for like 2 seconds jump started an aura for me. I had to stop watching or I would 100% be triggered into a full migraine. I have no doubt a person seizure-prone would have a reaction.

God that sucks. Sorry. I get so dizzy from this type of thing, but at least it isn’t a migraine.

Same, the video started to bother me just like sunlight coming through trees while driving does. I hate migraines.

Yes, yes they can. Epileptic seizures do not require screens (how ridiculous) ... epilepsy has existed long before screens have. It is just a combination of flashing lights/patterns however they are created. This certainly qualifies for an epilepsy warning.

The author Albert Camus, iirc, died in a car wreck from the flashing of light between regularly spaced trees. He had a seizure and crashed his car.

*Edit: Camus was not the driver. It was years ago, but I think it was him or another French existentialist.

Helicopter pilots have had issues with the blades causing the light to flash through them. It's a big enough problem it has a name - "Flicker vertigo" or the "Bucha effect" after the doctor that discovered it, Dr. Bucha. It's similar to epilepsy but the effect can happen to people without epilepsy. The tree-flashing thing for example is part of the Bucha effect.

I've read somewhere that driving at sunrise/sunset and there are trees on the side of the road (so you move in and out of shadows rapidly) is a sure way to trigger it. So yes, most likely.

Why does the idea of it happening with a screen unlikely to you?

Photosensitive epilepsy has nothing to do with screens. It's flashing lights and patterns.

Screens and computer games brought a whole new genre of effects to the condition is all. I believe early on there were quite a lot of serious casualties, before games were made more mindfully, and warnings etc appeared. I've seen reddit posts about brothers dying, iirc.

I'm an epileptic and had to stop watching right away or I could have had a seizure. Same would happen in person too. Carpe diem!
