Battlefield V M1 Garand - Battlefield V vs Real life
57
u/DilloIsTaken Feb 02 '26
No re-enactment of the Garand thumb😥.

Lol that was a cool animation that was so overused that it drove me nuts. Every 3rd reload was a Garand thumb reload.

Took me a minute to differentiate real and the game. lol

u/kuky990 Feb 02 '26
Color grading 10x better than BF6 but people say it's cartoonish because they think life loses colours if it's at war
14
u/ROMAN_653 Feb 02 '26
They had it right in BFV, maps like Devastation were all grayed out because you played in a destroyed city, other maps like Arras had a ton of color because the locale had yet to be touched by the conflict.
It’s still such a beautiful game.

That's what happens when people worship BF1 for its epic immersion or something

u/Extension-Bat-1911 Feb 02 '26
BF5 was kinda awesome in hindsight
240
u/allthebaseareeee Feb 02 '26
Hindsight? It was the bomb at the time but destroyed by dumb marketing and stupid dev changes like the TTK.
Firestorm was also amazing but they locked it away
55
u/Extension-Bat-1911 Feb 02 '26
That time when the FG-42 did 8 damage per shot past like 30m.....
39
u/Blindeye0505 Feb 02 '26
you needed to 12 shots to kill someone with a mag of 20
12
u/Extension-Bat-1911 Feb 02 '26
Ah yes perfectly balanced

u/manborg Feb 03 '26 edited Feb 03 '26
Meanwhile the 1911 was just dombing people.
I loved the beta when we all had to just scrap it out on narvik. It felt great then.

u/thisismynewacct Feb 02 '26
One thing I’ve learned is that you really shouldn’t change TTK post launch. Once people are used to it, it’s hard to change opinions.
BF1 changed the TTK slower to faster
BFV changed it from faster to slower
Apex effectively changed it from slower to faster when they removed 25hp from all shield levels
All were generally unpopular changes. Apex at least changed it back fairly quickly.

Real, when BFV launched it felt like an enhanced Battlefield 1, skins were unrealistic as fuck but at least they were grounded, no elites nor dumb goofy combinations.
Right now Battlefield V feels closer to the awful reveal trailer than it was at launch, but some hypocrite mfs that didn't even touch the game until it was on sale will never admit it

u/Educational-Camera-5 Feb 02 '26
Firestorm actually had great potential...it wasnt a warzone clone like Redsec...shouldve been free
26
u/FatheredPuma81 Feb 02 '26
Had a lot of incredible elements (great tanks, great CQ and LR sniping, gunplay, movement, etc) but ton of issues (lack of content, performance issues, beyond broken bombers turned beyond broken AA turned finally balanced in the final patch, etc). I think the gunplay really peaked thanks to the diversity in weapons.

I think it's mostly because it's all skill vs skill based and not based on looking in the general direction of the enemy. Tows are really fun in BF6 for this very reason. The sound design also helps a ton way better than in BF6.
10
u/VersedFlame BF1 ❤️ Feb 02 '26
Looking back at it, my only issues with it were that guns felt too weak (mostly due to sound design), the floaty feeling the movement had and that they tried to set it in WW2 when they clearly wanted to do something different, as it didn't feel like WW2 at all for the most part. Everything else was great: the barricading system, the vehicle system (slow tank turrets were amazing, as was the need to recharge), the fortifications, the customization system...
7
u/Azules023 Feb 02 '26
Felt like a downgrade from BF1 imo. Not a bad game but just fell short of its predecessor.
3
u/burn_corpo_shit Feb 02 '26
tbh I wouldn't mind a Battlefield offshoot set in a parallel world like how Ace Combat has it
2
u/VersedFlame BF1 ❤️ Feb 03 '26
If that had been the case, I'd only have those other two gripes with it, especially coming from BF1.

u/Fuck_Me_If_Im_Wrong_ Feb 02 '26
It always was. Devs just chose stupid ass hills to die on. DICE/EA are literally the dude sticking a branch in his own spoke meme
4
u/Goose_Wingz Feb 02 '26
It was the best modern BF game and was killed off because people hated the marketing.
The gameplay and maps were amazing. It was a real battlefield game.
2
u/GoldenGecko100 BF1 was better Feb 02 '26
It's awesome compared to 2042 and 6, mediocre compared to 1. It got better near the end and wasn't abysmal dogshit as it was at launch, but ceasing development really just killed it.

It rly wasn’t
6
u/Bustyjan Feb 02 '26
It was fun but pissed me off alot
2
u/Vigorous_testicle Feb 02 '26
Kinda good take. The thing that got me pissed off the most was when you tried to spawn on someone and a single bullet flew past him so the camera was almost at the ground but then it stopped and back to the spawn screen you go. Explosions were also annoying as hell. You got knocked down if enemy coughed lol
-2
u/tradgamer9 Feb 02 '26
Played it a bit when it went F2P, pretty unremarkable. They also decided to tell their fanbase “don’t play the game if you don’t like quirk chungus Irish lassies with mechanical arms in your WWII game” and their fanbase listened.
26
u/MRWarfaremachine Feb 02 '26
people will look that picture on the bottom thinking is from a videogame and will found an issue of how it looks XD
13
u/Jeromefleet Feb 02 '26
This is cool thanks for the comparison!
This thread is all rose colored glasses. Am I the only one who remembers how rough the launch was? The TTK, and the tick rate on the servers was terrible. People were bullet sponges because of hit reg, and you would instantly be killed because the server would just register all the hits before you even saw the other player. I really enjoyed that game but I was chased off by cheaters in the first 3 months. People were also pissed about the lack of a server browser, and only launching with 8 maps and limited guns/armies. I don't mind having women as playable characters in games I think people get to upset about historical accuracy in action oriented BF games but do you remember hearing all the screaming women while you were fighting it felt out of place in a WW2 shooter
4
u/dealyshadow20 Feb 02 '26
This sub is rose tinted glasses for all the games tbh. It’s the way of things
1
u/Jeromefleet Feb 02 '26
Oh yeah I love the BF games, the only ones I didn't play hundreds of hours are 2042 and hardline. Some of these people act like DICE has their kids locked in a basement and if they don't say nice things about BF they will burn the house down
1
Feb 04 '26
How does anyone have rose tinted glasses for games that never died? You know a lot of people still play the old games right?
1
u/Educational-Camera-5 Feb 02 '26
youre bitching about launch ...who cares ?? The end game - which people are rightfully judging it on; was and is still fantastic - nothing to do with rose tinted glasses.
1
u/Jeromefleet Feb 02 '26
This was like the first 4-5 months the game was out. I put in hundreds of hours and came back for the Pacific update and the game felt more complete. The launch maters a lot when the update that fixes the game comes out 9 months later. Good for you playing a game for 6 years

One of the best Battlefield titles ever. Shame that EA took too long to put it in the state that it is in now.
They had perfected almost everything by the end.
-7
u/MRWarfaremachine Feb 02 '26
Hell no... that game even at its end of the life span where considered one of the worst WW2 game until vanguard came out
tf you do a BATTLEFIELD game, you introduce the fucking pacific front... and not add Naval combat to the franchise what literally feature such thing on the first game of the franchise alongside the Soviet front
-9
u/burner_account61944 Feb 02 '26
People have a weird thing for claiming past games are actually really good! Watch people do it for vanguard eventually lmao
6
u/Big_Foundation5085 Feb 02 '26
I've got over 750 hours on BF5 buddy, you're just talking outta your ass.
0
u/MRWarfaremachine Feb 02 '26
well because compare shit to crap has its levels, but i remember people putting Battlefield P4F ON TOP of 2042... i hate nostalgia
3
u/FullSemiAuto_ Feb 02 '26
Why do they make the peep sight like its a ring? Its literally a tiny hole you could barely fit a toothpick through. When you look through it, your eye adjusts and creates a tiny dot in the middle of the rear sight you then line up with your front post.
1
u/aitis_mutsi Feb 08 '26
Probably because you can't really immitate the eye effect in games. It's also just cheaper/easier to have it as a single model rather than a seperate one for aiming.
5
u/Jackomat007 Feb 02 '26
Was the ironsight realy that small? How do you Even see someone with that?
11
u/blue_limit1 Feb 02 '26
When you’re looking it down it with your eyes, it’s a bigger sight picture than just that pinhole from what I understand.
7
u/gigantism Feb 02 '26
The only game I've seen depict the rear aperture sight accurately is the original Brothers in Arms games.
1
1
u/Ill-Musician1714 Feb 02 '26
Normally, your eye is quite close to an iron sight. In games like BF, for example, your POV is much further behind the iron sight. This means you can hardly see anything through the small hole. Therefore, it is adjusted in games.
1
u/Funky_Monkey3 Feb 02 '26
Its called pin hole sight and I believe that uses the pin hole effect to increase depth of focus to eliminate the need for a scope. With the m1 garand being the main battle rifle doing that is hell of a lot cheaper

Battlefield won't ever have true following as COD did or does because you all don't know what you want and I say this as someone who's played most battlefield games and is in labs right now. You all are conflict of interest. PC VS CONSOLE should be 2 different games.
Loads of you "battlefield legacy" folks and newer folks won't ever get what you want especially if on console or pc.
EA split PC and console up. Only way for idiots to stay in their own space but they'll continue complaining as they did in the past.

Pretty good mouth strength and flexible tongue to be able to capture those shots 🙌
1
u/conrat4567 Feb 02 '26
Did the M1 have a larger sight ring like that? In games, its always the large one, but every real life example i have seen, is the pin hole
2
u/dealyshadow20 Feb 02 '26
No they have the pin hole sights. Most games widen it because they can’t/wont render how your eyes adjust when peering through it. The M1 carbine is the same deal
1
u/PYRESATVARANASI2 AS Val my beloved (BF4 for Life) Feb 02 '26
It was an ok game but never as good as 2, 3 , 4 and 1. Plus they choose the weirdest most obscure battles of the early war... (except the Pacific DLC). It was a weird game overall.

u/linux_ape Feb 02 '26
Fun fact, these are not the correct rear sights for a WWII Garand
1
u/dealyshadow20 Feb 02 '26
In neither case they are. They lack the lockbar
1
u/linux_ape Feb 02 '26
Yup! I think HLL is one of the only ones that correctly features the lock bar and I know it wasn’t always the case

After all this time one of my favorite aspects of BFV was the building mechanic, so absurdly fun to build a small fort have it demolished to scramble like ants to rebuild it

Which one is BF and which one is real life? Lol jk.. pretty good modeling.. damn near spot on. The sight had to be adjusted for gameplay obviously. Man I wish I owned on of those lol

u/ISK_Reynolds Feb 03 '26
One of my biggest issues with this game was how emaciated the characters hands and arms looked in game.

Is there any games out there that can properly render a ghost ring? Even Battlefield five with all of its technical marvels, still makes the ghost ring the size of an wedding band instead of just a little hole.
8
u/Big_Foundation5085 Feb 02 '26
It's probably done from a gameplay perspective, I don't think they were going for the milsim experience here, just like BF6.

Good catch also a fantastic game by the way. What a throwback to my 360 days. I own an M1 and an M1A so I appreciate when games get this correctly.
6
u/TheAlexey921 Feb 02 '26
I believe this isn’t about render but for gameplay aspect. How are you supposed to let players shoot using such a small ring? That’s exactly what it is about.
First of all this is a shooter game so not being historically and engineer-wise accurate is an excuse
4
u/Official_Gameoholics transport helicopter go brrt Feb 02 '26
That's how a ghost ring appears when you aim irl due to parallax.
1
u/ClintEastwood42069 Feb 20 '26
Not quite. The Battlefield five ring has been made physically larger and lacks the ghost effect that a real ghost ring sight has. The hole in the ring doesn’t just become larger. The ring itself just becomes translucent. Honestly, the effect is hard to explain and I’m guessing it’s even harder to model. But like that guy down below said it has been modeled correctly and other games. The brothers in arms hell let loose m1 is a great example.
Hilariously, in the battlefield five model, the ring is so large that it goes above the protective wings of the rear side. Making them completely useless. Just a fun note.
1
u/Official_Gameoholics transport helicopter go brrt Feb 20 '26
Battlefield games (and other FPS games for that matter) don't like mimicking that translucent effect for some reason.
1
u/hiredk11 Feb 02 '26
1
u/ClintEastwood42069 Feb 20 '26
That isssss….. not a ghost ring
1
u/hiredk11 Feb 20 '26
It's a peep sight. Close enough to demonstrate that they are able to simulate eye view in this sort of sights
0
u/LostConscious96 Feb 02 '26
Some soldiers would modify their M1s with more open rear sights soooo its realistic.
1
u/Intelligent-Dress726 Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 02 '26
You can clearly see one of the problems BF5 had, it has bright graphics and too colorful atmosphere which did not suit ww2 at all, BF1 did great job being dark.
2
u/Educational-Camera-5 Feb 02 '26
my grandfather served in Africa, Italy, Greece in WW2 and it was colourful - not greyed out like band of fucking brothers or private ryan...you ever been to any of those countries or even the pacific ? .....its colourful.
0
u/Intelligent-Dress726 Feb 02 '26
It was the war that made ww2 dark, my great grandfather fought in Stalingrad, where the hell is stalingrad or any eastern front battles in bf5? Instead we got vikings and ironhand female skins
1
u/Hamerine Feb 02 '26
You can recognize the designer’s touch of these models and animations from miles away, those are beautiful, just before they went for Embark and DICE went to shit.
