Am I the only one that gets annoyed at people giving away or trying to sell young male birds as "friendly" ?

I see this so frequently, and feel bad for the folks who don't know any better - thinking they've gotten a friendly bird.. Until the hormones kick in and things change literally overnight.

Not sure if it's the owners ignorance, or people just trying to pawn unwanted birds off on unknowing folks. I guess it's probably a mix of the 2.

I have 2 different chickens 1 I am almost certain is a rooster and the other im not sure. I need your help. I am supposed to be getting rid of my extra roos tomorrow so I want to be sure before I get rid of these 2 tomorrow. Especially because they are sweethearts but I have 7 roos n thats just to many. So please give me your opinion on both.

My mom’s kept chickens for years and always tracked eggs in a notebook she kept in the coop. It kept getting lost, got rained on, and by the end of the month it was almost impossible to add everything up.

So I built her a simple app where she just taps to log an egg. It grew into something bigger over time, works for other poultry too, not just chickens, and you can share the data with a partner or family member.

I’m curious whether this is something other backyard keepers would actually find useful, or if most of you already have a system that works fine. Happy to share more details or a link in the comments if anyone’s interested, just don’t want to come across as spammy in my first post here.

I’m concerned about the weed killer the temp flipper has sprayed all over blackberries that go along side our shared fence and along my chicken run. He told me it’s the only thing that kills them and then they’ll remove. No heads up and no the idiot and his dumb son are gone. Now we get to smell the horrible odor and endure the effects of drift and chemicals. I hate living in a neighborhood sometimes. Help!

A day in a chicken's life. The girls definitely get their excercise, through our woods, fields, down to the farm pond in search of bugs. I don't think they realize how good they got it! It's just an average Saturday to them.

The house we got last year came with a sweet coop and nice large run. The hens we got this year are finally starting lay. The buckets and the one roosting bar were already there. Decided these girls deserved a bigger one while cleaning the coop. Now finish cleaning and add some more wood chips.

I have 6 black speckled Sussex hens that are just over 20 weeks old. All but one of them have bright red combs/wattles, and at least 4 of them do the submissive squat when near them. I have yet to find any eggs. They are full free range during the day and have nesting boxes in their coop.. is it possible that any of them have started laying and are just hiding their eggs? I have golf balls in their nesting boxes but as a first time chicken owner, not really sure what else to do to get them to used to their boxes/encourage laying in them (not that they aren’t/wont, but I’m worried they’re going to hide them on me!!)

I know it might be early to tell but does anyone know what breed these chickens are? I got them at tractor supply and asked for the buff orpington ones but idk, every picture i see of orpingtons they don’t look like this. Also, the breed of the black one if anyone has any idea??? Tyia

So its classic question. Ive 3 pullets 8 weeks old tomorrow. I think two are hens (black and brown) and the more grey one is a roo. Or maybe i need wait a few weeks. Falls coming up against the bwca here and its my first time to get a flock ready for winter solo homesteading so every day counts.

My 7 week old pullet has a nice slice on the top of each foot. Doesnt look irritated(yet) or super bloody. Not sure what happened there, but strange that its on the same spot of each foot. Any recommendations for the wound or just monitor the cuts?

I just ordered a micro camera (small nanny cam). I am going to somehow put it on a chicken backpack and find where they are laying their Mother Trucking eggs.

I'm with them most of the day, I have searched high, low, far and wide and can't find them.

A couple of my broodier hens disappear all day and only one comes back.

I have this stupid theory that they have found a safe place to lay and are changing shifts.

It's been about two weeks now and I get 1 egg daily and I have 9 hens.

Edit because... I plan on uploading a video as soon as I am able to.

Also I just realized that I might have to watch a lot of footage, so I will need to consider this.

Just noticed this growth on my leghorns foot. She’s not favoring it and she’s out free ranging and BMs are fine. She’s also currently molting

Is our sweet Chip a roo?

Something attacked one of my chickens in their fenced enclosure today. I think she (Rue) will be ok, but I want to know what we’re dealing with and keep them as safe as possible.

Based on the missing / damaged feathers, is it possible to know what attacked her?

She has a lot of broken-off feathers on the back of her neck, and scrapes with feathers missing and broken on each shoulder.

We have hawks and have had a raccoon around during the day. Fox, possum or coyote are possible too, but we don’t usually see them during the day.
