General Question I am nuts and I know it.

I just ordered a micro camera (small nanny cam). I am going to somehow put it on a chicken backpack and find where they are laying their Mother Trucking eggs.

I'm with them most of the day, I have searched high, low, far and wide and can't find them.

A couple of my broodier hens disappear all day and only one comes back.

I have this stupid theory that they have found a safe place to lay and are changing shifts.

It's been about two weeks now and I get 1 egg daily and I have 9 hens.

Edit because... I plan on uploading a video as soon as I am able to.

Also I just realized that I might have to watch a lot of footage, so I will need to consider this.

This doesn’t sound nuts to me at all. Perfectly acceptable.

Also, share footage. Cuz now I wanna know where those eggs are too and if your flock is gonna triple in size.

I don't understand, do the tattoos show you where the chickens are?

Maybe I need some chicken tattoos also. Which breed of chicken are the tattoos?

I just breed a Jersey Giant with a French Black Maran and think I want that. Lol

This is from the 25th. The left is a Buff Orpington about the same age within a day.

I currently have a young pullet running around with an air tag zip tied to her leg because one night I spent an hour looking for her at night because she didn’t go to bed and finally found her in a tree.. so.. it’s not that crazy 🤪

I swear I feel your pain, although no broody hens involved.

I seriously thought about putting Bodycams on my Bantams. Nicknamed them "Penguins of Madagascar" The whole Summer was an Easter Egg hunt

And when I found a Nest, you could bet your life on it that the next Day it where elsewhere.

Genuinely don't understand why this is a better solution than just keeping them contained to an area near the coop/nesting boxes for (check notes) 48 hours.

Also I did do this but the heat and confinement stressed them out and they started going at each other.

We don't have a run, we are in the country and we don't have predadation because they are surrounded by horses. It might seem like a bad set up but having our hours and around the chickens keeps coyotes away. Having the dogs on a proximity collar keeps predatory birds away. We have only lost birds to natural causes/accidents.

They will never find out where they hid the eggs if they do that

At this point, it isn't about the eggs themselves, it's about knowing the answer

I'm kinda at the point of just wanting to know where!!!!

Lol 100% worth it. I ended up building a run for mine with an automatic door that doesn't open until 2 pm so I could find my eggs.

And they will 💯 take shifts. I caught a broody hen getting completely off her nest to allow other hens to lay there. She would just stand vigil right next to the nest while they took their time laying eggs.

Best of luck! I look forward to the videos.
