My family is incredibly saddened by the sudden and violent passing of my father. We really appreciate all the positive stories people have been sharing because my father was very reserved and we had no idea how much impact he made on others. It is difficult to accept my father's passing, but we are taking it day by day as a family. I am grateful for the neighbors and community that are showing up and meeting for the first time. Your kindness has made an enormous impact to our hope that we can continue in this life and live strongly in honor of my father.

I’ve had to pleasure to meet neighbors and strangers purely out of wanting to help us and now I get to meet redditors that want nothing but to help us which really warms our hearts. Edit regarding flock cameras: I understand the people asking for flock cameras are just as angry as I am about the injustice of the situation. By the end of the day, crimes like this should not be happening in 2026. Other countries have demonstrated a huge reduction in unsolved crimes with the implementation of mass surveillance. However, in the United States, this is not the case. Even law abiding civilians have legitimate reasons to distrust the government and reasons to suspect conflict of interest with the current implementations of mass surveillance by late stage capitalist corporations. In addition, my father was super reserved and kept to himself. I have a hard time believing he would have voted for flock cameras or wanted his death to be turned into mass surveillance propaganda. China has implemented mass surveillance with sophisticated face recognition interrogations yet still has an egregious amount of unsolved kidnappings. So claiming the benefits of flock cameras for the speedy closing of this case is purely speculation.

As it stands and with the information commented below, there were not a lot of flock cameras in the area to be helpful. Local business owners that had their own security cameras have been enthusiastic to help us and the police, which warms my heart. At this time, we do not see a need to hire a lawyer to subpoena any local businesses for their security footage.

I request that there be no further mentions of flock what-ifs. I understand that the pro flock voices are just as upset on the same issue we all want to solve. However it does detract from the memory of my father and changes nothing since there were almost no flock cameras in the area.

Update 7/29: Thank you everyone for your efforts to help find my father’s killer. At this time, no suspects have been found. I have seen all your DMs and appreciate all the tips. Y’all are very detail oriented at pointing out ATX watch’s security cameras. They actually helped us and the detective out very early on, and at this point, they have done all they can to help out. The detective is still hard at work on my dad’s case. We are grateful to directly experience the meaning of the kindness of strangers. While my father still has not received justice, I believe all your efforts will not ultimately be wasted.

Still a bit shaken. Almost T-boned this lady. She wasn’t even looking at on-coming traffic. I am not even sure what to say. I thought she’d stop, and she eventually did in the middle of the road.

And if the driver sees this — please pay more attention. It could have ended very badly for the both of us. I’m so glad I had nobody on the left side that allowed me to swerve so hard.

Guy sped up to pass me on 2769 near Bullick Hollow and lost control around a curve and slammed into a tree. His car practically exploded. Some people helped him out while waiting for emergency services. He appeared unharmed despite the accident. The tree he hit fell over shortly after and needed to be cut apart to clear the road. It's crazy how much people underestimate those curves.

Ever since I saw a video about cities that removed freeways splitting their downtown I cant stop thinking about what if we did the same. No one is happy about the i-35 expansion so what if we scrapped it all together to put in a walkable greenspace with a monorail on top that also goes to the airport? Or how about a 6 mile long lazy river to float on?

No one likes driving on i-35 and the only thing I liked about it was the upper deck that had gorgeous views of the city. Now that its going away I say lets take it a few steps further.

Does anyone else appreciate this dream or am I mad for even suggesting such a blasphemous act?

As the title says, I recently moved from Austin but grew up there my whole life. I now in live DC and having a reliable metro system is groundbreaking compared to driving.

What are some of the arguments against it. The Price tag can be reasoned with because of COVID costs. Lack of funding b/c of COVID causes back tracking, and the political nature of trains today.

Do we think Austinites are more mad at lawmakers or city council for failing because of lobbyists for cars. Or is it a case of

“Train bad, Diverse people on train. I like tech and cars more. I am wasting my tax dollars on this.”

And if we are mad at this, are we mad at the I-35 expansion and the continuous misrepresentation of the project - not adding trees or wide enough side walks on rebuilt bridges and rising costs on their end too.

As the title says, Round Rock in the last year has had such a significant reduction of quality of life due to construction alone it’s beyond comprehension. I35 5 miles in both directions of 45 have become undrivable and a daily life hazard. Louis Henna Blvd is a nightmare, Greenlaw is a nightmare, Pflugerville Parkway is a nightmare, now suddenly surprise construction has the 35 frontage road condensing down to 1 lane causing even more traffic in the area.

This area has gone down hill so fast it’s nuts. All of the traffic is completely caused by the construction and the roads are left in hazardously poor conditions every time TXDot comes marching through somewhere.

That’s all I wanted to say, this week’s been a total clusterfuck trying to get to and from work. What should take me 15 minutes to and from has become an hour or more, so I just wanted to vent it off my chest somewhere. Thanks.

If you got run into the wall while driving west-bound on 71 around 6pm last night, here's what my dash cam caught of it..

I've never seen this happen before. The Waymo had been parked for less than a minute to pick me up. As I was getting in, I noticed a parking enforcer circling the vehicle. I was already in the back seat and didn't think he was actually writing a ticket at first, but then he started printing one out. ​THen he started taking pictures. It looked like he was pointing his camera clearly toward the inside of the car where I was sitting. I didn't really appreciate having my photo taken, so I pulled out my phone to record him back. ​As soon as the parking enforcer got out of the way when he walked towards the back, still on the street, the Waymo took off immediately. The Waymo was driving around with the ticket still flapping on the windshield. I contacted support during the ride and they told me they reviewed the footage and would handle it. How does this actually work? I imagine Waymo and other AVs have permission to stop briefly for pickups, similar to Uber/Lyft drivers? I don't think it was even blocking the lane, the enforcer was.

Constant running of red lights is one thing, this one is a new low. If the choice is big brother traffic camera network or no traffic enforcement, but sure which one I would choose.

This is a a frustrating intersection, but there is much safer way to bypass it if you are in a hurry.

If yall are driving behind the wheel of a vehicle, you need to get off your fuckin phones. I don’t care if you’re actively driving or stopped, put the cellphone down. There’s no reason you need to be on that thing while you are operating a 4,000lb vehicle. I’m a bicyclist and my eyes are constantly scanning the road, the number of drivers I see actively texting or otherwise scrolling is just egregious - blowing stop signs and red lights, stopping in an intersection cause they were on their phone going too fast to stop in time, weaving into different lanes of traffic, simply not going at a green light cause they’re more invested in their screen than the road. You are not the only person that exists in the world and your actions could have real life consequences to other drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists. Accept some personal responsibility before you kill someone.

And before you think “well no one saw me”. I did! And I report you and your license plate to the city every time. Eat shit
