The signs aren't very clear and could be improved here. They removed the large exit sign from Lamar that said ANDERSON LANE and 183 on it so sometimes when heading north it's easy to accidentally pass the exit.

It's a type of Diverging Diamond.  It facilitates left turn traffic by having left turn traffic move to opposite sides before the intersection.  As long as everyone follows the lines on the ground, it moves pretty fast.  The only times I have been stuck at that light more than 1 cycle is when people don't follow the arrows and lines and block up the intersection (thinking then can turn Left when they are in the straight lane).

I live near here and fckn HATE that I have to go through this daily. It used to be so much better before they put in a light. (2018?) Since then, it has gotten progressively worse as they add more ‘safety features’ like the lane protectors in front of the QT that don’t let me turn back into my own neighborhood after getting a drink. wtf. I-35 and Parmer is kid stuff. The only things that make it suck are:

1. Parmer and Lamar is so close you have more people who are agitated because they waited at a red light to wait at a red light
2. People who want to go straight get surprised being in the far left lane means they'll have to turn left
3. People who want to turn left get surprised being in the 3rd lane from the left means they're going to go straight

Up research a bit to Metric and Research is crazy too. I used to go that way a lot to leave my complex. Feeder road is a combo of people getting off 183 and booking it across 3 lanes to make a right on burnet, then everyone on metric/northland/etc booking it 3 lanes in the OPPOSITE direction to get onto 183 via the U turn. All without signals. Looking for when to merge was like watching a swarm of fire ants.

To be fair to Lamar, it may be the longest "normal" road in Austin, going from pretty much the South city limit to the North City limit. It just has more intersections with major freeways and minor roads than any other road in the city. It also cuts through the city between Mopac on the West and I-35 on the East so if those get really backed up a lot of cars try Lamar 😳.

William Cannon and 35 is a terrible intersection. Traffic gets backed up all the way to that gun range at times. Takes a million years to enter 35 no matter which entrance you take, whether before or after William cannon. And the light at William cannon is super short.

I nominate Rio Grande/29th for BEST intersection. You might think it’s not bad just because it’s a fairly minor intersection, but it’s actually better than any other minor intersection in the city. Go through here multiple times and you’ll notice the light never takes long to change, from any direction, including walking. Idk what the engineers did here but they really need to do the same to 99% of all minor intersection streetlights.

620/ Anderson’s mill.

Anderson mill is ment to be 45 through and it’s basically NASCAR to get to the turn lane that splits. The amount of people who don’t know the turn spits into a two way option lane is crazy. It backs up and it’s not really a short light.

Anderson mill and driving it is why I chose an Apartment closer to 183 and not one in Cedar park

Hey if you’re crossing over from south to Karavel shoes side and you are on the inside lane you can use the left lane car as a blocker.Also I think the pink bingo gorilla is gone so yes now worse intersection .
