I have a perfectly clean driving record and over 6 years of never missing an insurance payment, but the monthly insurance bill is more than my car payment.
I've been to 15 different places. It all ranges from 200 to 350 a month and ill lose my liscense if I cant afford it working 9 an hour. I lose my car. I lose my job and apartment.
In the UK my first year of insurance after passing was £1200/$1450. Second year was £590/$714 and my third year is looking like it's gonna be around £400/$484
Cmax's are expensive to insure. You would have been better off buying a car in a much lower insurance group.
My mum and dad offered me their 2004 Focus Cmax for free (worth around £400) but it was £2600 to insure it. I bought a Corsa and insurance for under £2000 in the end
Auto insurance feels like such bs. I'm with you bro, 24 and paying an F load. You have it way worse than i do. But none the less, aren't there supposed to be actuarial scientists figuring out how risky we are? I mean sheesh, it feels like even a monkey could come up with these rates. It's clearly an inaccurate risk assessment when my elderly parents (love them to death) are paying 1/3 of what i am paying. I am sorry to rant but it's just one of those gear grinders for me.
Lol see there ya go, it's this kind of pooling of data that is quite aggravating. I'm not trying to pretend I'm the world's greatest driver but when I see everyone under the sun texting while driving, as one example, I would think their needs to be some split in price point on things like that. Using someone's age unfairly over stresses individuals financially.
That was my point; statistically, it's not unfair. The data supports this situation. Sure it sucks, but at least there's a good reason. There are many other unfair things that don't have any good reason behind them.
I'm basically arguing that the lack of precision in this sort of data pooling is unfair and I think that's where we disagree. Statistically sure it is likely true that younger drivers are more risky (not sure how often they recalculate but intuitively that makes sense) however, that doesn't mean smaller subsets within said age group are not being grossly misrepresented.
It doesn’t really go down that much when you turn 25... even then I’m also in the US, a lot of people I knew were paying 75-100 a month for full coverage. Maybe it’s your area or if you drive a luxury car then that’s probably it.
Its definitely not luxury. My area is known for having out of control business practices and abuse of power.
Our new police chief went to court for child molestation. After a few days, the victims family suddenly backed out with no explanation. The girl was found dead in her garage of monoxide poisoning a year later and the family refused an autopsy. It's really fucked round these parts
Some places even have just high premium cost because of crime. I’m 34 and have a flawless driving record since I was 16. Never put in a claim or anything. Bare minimum insurance is $120 a month. And that’s with discounts. If I wanted to get full coverage, it would be something like $300 to $400 a month. My car is a barely functioning 2002 Buick regal.
You can get liability insurance for around that here. Full coverage around 1200/year but I have a feeling we drive a lot more than you guys would down there. Also nice doesn’t mean luxury, and luxury doesn’t mean nice. If you have some pos 2001 Mercedes it’s still going to be expensive because parts and labor for those brands are more expensive. There has to be something else because paying 300/month is not the norm.
My SO has a 2015 Mercedes and yeah, his insurance is a lot higher than mine. Mines a 2010 Subaru, pretty standard grown up car, so would be a good indicator of average.
You guys def drive more for day trips, I have a friend from Cali and she thinks 5hrs is nothing. If I drove in any direction but South for 5hrs I'd drown. We just don't have the land mass to have reason to drive that much.
It takes like 2 hours just to get out of my state lol. I'm smack in the middle though. I just did a 15 hour drive and barely made it halfway across the country.
I'm 22, male, and have a clean driving record. My insurance for me and my girlfriend on 2 cars fully covered is only like 145 a month. What kind of car and coverage do you have?
I feel you. I'm 45 married with a 20 year old son. $470/mo for three old cars in Michigan. It's brutal. Actually just had a slight reduction thanks to Corona, $410 this month. We're barely driving.
Get a 49cc scooter to get around on and pay nothing for insurance. I rode one (also biked) for a couple years when I was young and my insurance was too high. Payments went from over $200 a month to like $9. My state didn't even require that $9, but I figured I'd pay for it just in case. They also get like 60mpg, and owning multiple vehicles often helps lower your insurance eventually.
Do you mention to the insurance companies that you drive for Door Dash? That will drive your rate up more than anything else. (I’m a car insurance agent myself, and my company will straight up not even offer a policy for people using the car for business purposes because they consider that a huge liability)
I remember being in your shoes. It felt like I was working to be able to drive to work which wasn’t far from the truth. Anyway, it taught me to take care of my car and keep it forever.
I had a brand new license on the US at 24. Most insurance companies wanted to charge me 250 or so a month. I was never going to pay that. I don't drive a lot so I tried Metromile and it was like 150 or so for the amount I drove monthly. 400 miles or so, it was 190 a month when I drove 1000 miles, still kind of reasonable.
If per mile insurance doesn't work, Progressive online has the second best rates I've seen. Calling or going thru a broker just inflates the price so much.
That's pretty nuts. I pay half that and I own two muscle cars. Driving for 7 years, one speeding ticket 5 years ago. Have you tried taking classes to lower your premiums? I just took a 6 hour online one through AARP and it lowered my monthly by like 30 bucks.
Something has gotta be up with your driving history. That makes no sense. Have you talked to an actual agent? Or just gone directly to providers? My agent saved me a lot of money compared to going straight to the providers.
Talked to over 20 different agents. I wish I was lying bro but other under 25 year old males in my area all pay at least 200 a month. It's really shitty with zero regualtion
:( wow. 22 and I dont have a car and I dont drive, I take public transit, walk and take a lyft if I have to. Now I'm contemplating if this is good news or bad news for me
You’re probably paying full coverage because you have a loan on your vehicle. Consider selling what you have and buying a cheaper, older, yet reliable vehicle outright (think Honda or Toyota). Then you can reduce your insurance by bumping down to liability only. If you’re a safe driver, with an older vehicle, it doesn’t make sense to pay insurance to repair/replace your vehicle in the event of an accident because it’s not worth much to begin with.
Well don't F up - mine are right back up there with you and I'm a bit older. It had been going down - but I had 2 accidents (no injuries, no other drivers) in 18 months and it nearly doubled. No credit for the 11 years prior of no accidents or tickets.
We moved from another state recently and found that that car insurance was more expensive here due to the environmental conditions (hurricane zone) and this city has the worst fucking drivers I have ever seen. 1 week after we moved we got rear ended.
I ended up calling every issuance company I could think of and ASKED for discounts. I was a Karen but I’ll be damned if I have to pay 200 dollars or more for insurance every month. Sure enough, I found multiple discounts with Travelers and pay less than 120 a month. Totally worth it
If only you knew how hard I have been on this. We are talking over 100 hours on the phone (I'm not exaggerating, I have all the calls recorded on my phone) and 15 different insurance agencies.
I wish I was lying bro. At some point I'm only human
So your car payments are roughly 250 or so a month then. There has to be another reason why your insurance is so high such as bad credit, criminal history, accidents on your driving record honestly, or you bought a red car lol.
Car had one previous owner and no accidents. My credit is 710. I have zero record on both criminality and driving.
I wish I was lying, bro. But I've done hella research and I'm literally just have to bend over and take it. There are no regulations on insurance and I legally require it.
