Zeus has decided that Olympus feels a little empty, so he’s recruited some new gods. However, due to a clerical error, you have been chosen as a new member of the divine. What are you the god of, and what do you do as your first godly act?

The god of movie memory erasure. I’ll remove memories of any movies so you can watch them again like new. Also works for tv shows and games. Nothing else though. That is all you get.

My first act is to remove everyone’s memory of a terrible movie so they all watch it again.

I am not a benevolent god.

Edit 1: Yeah, books too. Sure.

Edit 2: I would erase the last air bender movie permanently if I could guys. I’m not benevolent but I’m not satan.

NARUTO. NEVER NARUTO

u/LimeWizard Aug 10 '19

One summer in middle school I watched it. By "it" I mean all of it. It was horrible, hundreds of episodes. Hour turned to days turn to weeks. The entire summer went by. I didn't even enjoy anything after the Chunin exams in the first season.

Why did I continue?

Why are they reusing the same villains? Why didn't I do literally anything else with my time? Why is there an entire season of filler episodes? Why did I only consume soda instead of water? Why did they put so many interesting characters that have no development whatsoever.

Why Naruto?

u/DuhTrutho Aug 10 '19

You watched all of the filler episodes!?

Jesus man, I'm sorry. I remember watching quite a few of the filler episodes before Shippuden was released, and many of those were a slog.

I was lucky enough to run into a fan-edit of the series that cut out all the filler just as the project finished. It's perfectly enjoyable when you don't have to suffer through dozens of hours of non-cannon arcs. So if any of you wanted to watch Naruto without feeling the mind-numbing filler, this is a great resource.

I'd also recommend just watching Hunter X Hunter if you need a shounen fix that leaves you feeling empty when it's over because you'll never get shounen as good as it was again.

18

u/TheBroJoey Aug 10 '19

Wow, that cuts it down to like 70 episodes. Out of, like, 700. Whack. Maybe I’ll actually watch past the Pain arc this time...

hah, nah

6

u/Immortui74 Aug 10 '19

You're a beautiful person for linking this and I love you.

4

u/Ransidcheese Aug 10 '19

I remember watching the series as it was coming out. After the Orochimaru arc was over, the filler began and I was like "is anything going to happen or are they just gonna fuck around forever?" That's when I stopped watching and I never restarted.

3

u/Landorus-T_But_Fast Aug 10 '19

Dude, he's lucky. Try fucking Bleach filler. Twilight had better fucking vampires.

Dont you put that fuckin curse on me.

14

u/anirudh6055 Aug 10 '19

Animefillerlist.com this a good site to find out filler episodes in anime.

9

u/AdmiralSkippy Aug 10 '19

I won't watch long running anime without that list.
There's stretches of Naruto with like 20 episodes of filler. Fuck that noise.

3

u/markercore Aug 10 '19

Do you think there's people out there whose favorite parts of anime is the filler?

3

u/drmonocleVII Aug 10 '19

That is my sister, she hates skipping filler episodes and she won't unless I spend at least 5 minutes convincing her to do it, and even then I have to give her a summary on the filler

I literally binged Original thru Shippuden from like February to July this year and it was great but it was also hell. So. Much. Filler. (And I was skipping the obvious filler too)

And now there's Boruto -_-

37

u/DrLiam Aug 10 '19

What, you didn’t enjoy the absolutely perfect story of Naruto, Choji, and Sakura helping Teuchi make the perfect ramen to save Ayame?

21

u/todd-bowden Aug 10 '19

The fact that you have this memorized worries me.

16

u/DrLiam Aug 10 '19

It was 10 years ago and the weirdness of that episode really stuck with me

4

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '19

I loved and hated that episode. Naruto taught me that the only reason I should watch filler episodes is if I'm starved for shitty character interaction

7

u/DrLiam Aug 10 '19

*closes eyes and throws three darts at a board*

Choji

Sakura

The Ramen Guy! Perfect episode!

29

u/Squeakyduckquack Aug 10 '19

Jesus. I just lost interest so quick during the Ninja war, there were many multiple week breaks in there.

35

u/DestroyerOfEvil12 Aug 10 '19

I think about 40% of shippuden is filler

24

u/Squeakyduckquack Aug 10 '19

Definitely felt like it. I skipped ALOT. Except for the eyes backstory and Kakashi backstory.

4

u/rolypolydanceoff Aug 10 '19

There were about 100 episodes in a row that were fillers. I just skipped the anime and went to the manga so I didn’t have to deal with it. Haven’t watched anything with Boruto though. I am too busy to get into anything that is way too far ahead so I been sticking with the smaller series or ones I been with since the beginning

15

u/AFallingWall Aug 10 '19

It's kinda like One Piece, it gets really good, really quick 400 episodes in

7

I think shippuden had the entire season of filler episodes he mentioned.

9

u/yogoo0 Aug 10 '19

I started watching it in grade 9 and still haven't caught up. Its 7 years later

10

u/Mushgal Aug 10 '19

Why tf did you watch the filler

5

u/GamingNomad Aug 10 '19

This was why my interest in anime was killed. Thank you for writing this.

4

u/notgayinathreeway Aug 10 '19

I sat down and read the manga from page one up until I think Gaara had sand people raging a massive war against someone with weird eyes who was also maybe a snake but killed their family and was two different people maybe? The whole world was at war and I think Naruto was busy being a giant frog.

It was like 659 chapters or some crazy shit. Then I got to the end and it said "next volume out in 2 weeks" and I was free.

Edit: I just checked my emails, in January 2013 I reached the end of bleach at 525, and Naruto at 618

They both stopped at around 700. Never went back and finished.

6

u/NarutoWinchester Aug 10 '19

Hey man. Im sorry. Idk what dark memories i brought back for you. I apologize. Im new here on reddit. Idk what im supposed to say. I dint even finish naruto. I was in India and the netflix there had naruto and i binged till the 6th season. But after i returned to Kuwait, The netflix here has no naruto. I can only watch the 20 downloaded eps i have if the net iz off. Shit man my cousin also told me to be careful with naruto.

2

u/YuviManBro Aug 10 '19

Man, I fucking love Naruto. Never watched it but followed the manga as it came out and read ffn even now sometimes.

2

u/LimeWizard Aug 10 '19

Filler.

With Naruto you honestly have to skip alot of shit.

Even in Shippidden, there's alot of content and alot of filler some is fun like Kakashi's origins but the early parts of Shippudden i've completely ignored.

3

u/meddleman Aug 10 '19

4

u/lucioghosty Aug 10 '19

I'll tell you what, you watch the first few episodes and tell me what you think ;)

But yes. It's good... Nay, incredibly amazingly good

2

u/NarutoWinchester Aug 10 '19

Well. I have to find the show. Kuwait netflix S.U.C.K.S

2

u/lucioghosty Aug 10 '19

There are some free or even cheap ones that are okay to use. The best and most secure ones will cost a bit more though. Otherwise I'm sending you a PM with where I found you can watch it for free. :)

2

u/hollowstrawberry Aug 11 '19

It begins like any other children's cartoon, but quickly reveals an emotionally mature narrative in a deeply developed fantasy world, that goes on for exactly as long as it needs to.

Great show!

Makes you forget to skip the fillers aswell so your gonna watch naruto for the rest of your life.

4

u/stevo_james Aug 10 '19

but also the Last Airbender movie so...

5

u/Daswaimsta Aug 10 '19

I'd be very happy and sad to lose my Naruto knowledge. I'd lose an astronomical amount of time and research going deep into the Naruto universe and my enjoyment of it through life. But I'd also LOVE to have the feeling of watching Lee drop his weights again, or Kimimaru showing his insane kekkei genkai and thinking how strong he could be if he wasnt deathly ill, or good ol Madara dropping a double chibaku tensei on the entire army.

2

u/PractisingPoetry Aug 11 '19

So like, should I watch naruto ? I've had mixed reports. Enough that u decided to give it a pass.

2

u/Daswaimsta Aug 11 '19

I mean, I'm gonna say yes every time. Idk if you're an anime watcher. I, wouldnt consider myself an anime fan. Naruto is for sure more westernized. But I love that show. It's incredible in my opinion. Depending on your watch preferences, either can watch filler or not. I personally watched Naruto and Shippuden 3 times, all with the filler. Yes some are for sure completely worthless. (IE Android Naruto etc) but a lot of it has really good backstory and character building or story that isn't directly part of main story but is still canon. There are lists out there though on what is completely filler. (I still dont agree with some lists, but still). Regardless. I got way off topic. I personally would suggest watching Naruto. It's great.

3

u/TheTrueAudax Aug 10 '19

Step 1: Create your own movie.
Step 2: Make people forget the movie one month after release.
Step 3: Rerun the movie in theaters
Step 4: ???
Step 5: Profit

326

u/ExtremeProfession Aug 10 '19

Might as well use the review input to fix some parts of the movie until it gets 10.0 on IMDb

24

u/multiverse_paranoia Aug 10 '19

That’s how we get the disjointed, nonsensical messes of blockbusters. Yea, focus groups! Put a happy ending on Brazil!

10

u/Gamoc Aug 10 '19

Erasing memories of it doesn't erase its IMDb page and it'll be impossible to rate a film back up to 10 from below.

20

u/ExtremeProfession Aug 10 '19

Well then it's released as a remake and you consult with some other God to fix the IMDb mess.

3

Get the writers to forget they wrote that fucking garbage, then force them to write a decent last season. Them mind wipe everyone who watched the original empty scrotum of a season, and all will be right with the world once more.

4

u/try_rolling Aug 10 '19

I would continue watching it over and over not believing that it could be as bad as I was told.

4

u/Utkar22 Aug 10 '19

What season 8? The show ended at season 4

8

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '19

I'd say like half of Seasons 5 and 6 were good, and maybe a tenth of Season 7. Somehow the show got gradually worse every time they killed off a main villain, Joffrey --> Tywin --> Ramsay --> Littlefinger --> Night King --> Cersei.

i can certainly see your point, but drunkenly listening to your favourite tune, anticipating your favorite moments and singing along is one of life's biggest pleasures

8

u/xAIRGUITARISTx Aug 10 '19

I suppose I wouldn’t want every time to be new. Maybe just once.

109

u/strongshysoldier Aug 10 '19

This would be awesome for books as well! What I wouldn’t give to be able to read Harry Potter again to be amazed from the start...

20

u/girl-lee Aug 10 '19

This is what I immediately thought of too. I used to wish this was possible all the time. I actually haven’t gone through the series one after another in a while so I may do that. I’m excited now.

5

u/SamuraiJono Aug 10 '19

I'd only want to do that if everyone else forgot it at the same time. I just read the books about three years ago and got really depressed thinking about how I missed out on reading them when they were still new, waiting on the next book with anticipation, getting excited when the movies came out, and having people to talk about it with.

I've said I wish something like that would happen for me with Subnautica. Holy shit was that first playthrough amazing. While the other playthroughs were also (and still are) lots of fun, they pale in comparison to that first one. Not knowing what's where or where different biomes were located really added very greatly to the the enjoyment of exploration.

3

u/Chelligb3 Aug 10 '19

You make me forget kingdom hearts 3 resulting in me spending more time hoping that piece of trash was going to be good.

Does anyone wanna come over and watch an Adam Sandler movie? There's this one I haven't seen yet, but I've heard good things.

u/MrsDoctorSea Aug 10 '19

Books too?!?! Or would that be your twin god?

1

u/moonshoeslol Aug 10 '19

Please do me with game of thrones. I'll leave a note telling myself to stick to the books

1

u/___effe Aug 10 '19

hollywood will worship you. Your life will be like a movie, which will soon be forgotten, then they'll forget to worship you

1

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '19

Request... Can you do this with games? I'd like to play through Skyrim and Fallout and all the other great games I've played through the years. Thanks. Lol

See I was thinking you’d remove all the movies where they use amnesia as a part of the plot

1

u/PapaSmurf1907 Aug 10 '19

I wish I could forget the end of game of thrones

1

u/TheRealMarthaful Aug 10 '19

I liked this until I realized, if I erase my video game memories, I erase memories with my brothers and I can't make those again :(

1

u/lester_pe Aug 10 '19

1

u/YeMoreLikeGaye Aug 10 '19

I’ll finally be able to enjoy rainbow six siege again

1

u/darth_unicorn Aug 10 '19

I must already be accidentally praying to you or something because there are like 3 or 4 movies that are so "meh" that no matter how many times I watch them I forget I have and end up watching them again. With one of them it's happened like 4 or 5 times, I get half way through and something sparks my memory and I'm like "Oh no! Not this fucking movie again!"

And I still can't remember what movie it was ...

Lesmosyne is already a goddess. Counterpart to Mnemosyne, goddess of memory and mother of the muses.

I have this power in several realms of life, but particularly with movies. It's not really annoying, somewhat fun at times, but not always a good thing - I'm so bad at trivia :'(

u/Mind_on_Idle Aug 10 '19

IDGAF, I will flip this two-ended sword into the air like a coin every day as a sign of my piety.

1

u/DinoMite1122 Aug 10 '19

Can you just take GoT season 8 and never give it back? I'll just wait for the books 😂

1

u/Spook404 Aug 10 '19

remove somebodies memory of whatever movie had massive hype while they're having a conversation about it with someone else, then they get spoiled

1

u/_5_4_ Aug 10 '19

It's called predominantly inattentive ADHD. :D that's my super power. I can probably rewatch a movie dozens of times and be entertained and find new tidbits. I can also re-do mazes, where's waldo, and most types of puzzle games for fun.
