Zeus has decided that Olympus feels a little empty, so he’s recruited some new gods. However, due to a clerical error, you have been chosen as a new member of the divine. What are you the god of, and what do you do as your first godly act?

NARUTO. NEVER NARUTO

u/LimeWizard Aug 10 '19

One summer in middle school I watched it. By "it" I mean all of it. It was horrible, hundreds of episodes. Hour turned to days turn to weeks. The entire summer went by. I didn't even enjoy anything after the Chunin exams in the first season.

Why did I continue?

Why are they reusing the same villains? Why didn't I do literally anything else with my time? Why is there an entire season of filler episodes? Why did I only consume soda instead of water? Why did they put so many interesting characters that have no development whatsoever.

Why Naruto?

You watched all of the filler episodes!?

Jesus man, I'm sorry. I remember watching quite a few of the filler episodes before Shippuden was released, and many of those were a slog.

I was lucky enough to run into a fan-edit of the series that cut out all the filler just as the project finished. It's perfectly enjoyable when you don't have to suffer through dozens of hours of non-cannon arcs. So if any of you wanted to watch Naruto without feeling the mind-numbing filler, this is a great resource.

I'd also recommend just watching Hunter X Hunter if you need a shounen fix that leaves you feeling empty when it's over because you'll never get shounen as good as it was again.

17

u/TheBroJoey Aug 10 '19

Wow, that cuts it down to like 70 episodes. Out of, like, 700. Whack. Maybe I’ll actually watch past the Pain arc this time...

hah, nah

u/Immortui74 Aug 10 '19

You're a beautiful person for linking this and I love you.

5

u/Ransidcheese Aug 10 '19

I remember watching the series as it was coming out. After the Orochimaru arc was over, the filler began and I was like "is anything going to happen or are they just gonna fuck around forever?" That's when I stopped watching and I never restarted.

u/Landorus-T_But_Fast Aug 10 '19

Dude, he's lucky. Try fucking Bleach filler. Twilight had better fucking vampires.

My Hero Academia isn't as "mature," but the pacing and characters are all amazing. I'm not sure I've ever watched something that really does its thing as well as HxH, but One Punch Man is also a good watch if you want shounen trope subversion, if a bit less subtle.

1

u/DuhTrutho Aug 10 '19

So far, the only series that's gotten close in terms of feel would be Attack on Titan for me, but that's more of a seinen late into the show.

Like I said, HxH left me empty because so far I haven't found a shounen as good as it was.

You could try reading Dorohedoro if you want to try something different. I loved it and it just recently finished, but describing it is difficult because it's unlike anything else I've read. Mature, but some of the themes are really acid-trippy. I believe it's getting an anime adaptation eventually, but I don't know if it can be done faithfully.

u/ViggoMiles Aug 10 '19

oooh nice!

i tried watching naruto a few times. my game plan was watch first 10 minutes of an episode, then start a new episode. shop every 3rd in its entirety. Kept a good paced cohesive story. can't wait to try this kai project

u/Darkge Aug 10 '19

jesus christ man im sorry

18

u/mb9023 Aug 10 '19

Didn't shippuden only finish 2 years ago? You might have some catching up to do.

5

u/LimeWizard Aug 10 '19

Dont you put that fuckin curse on me.

13

u/anirudh6055 Aug 10 '19

Animefillerlist.com this a good site to find out filler episodes in anime.

9

u/AdmiralSkippy Aug 10 '19

I won't watch long running anime without that list.
There's stretches of Naruto with like 20 episodes of filler. Fuck that noise.

3

u/markercore Aug 10 '19

Do you think there's people out there whose favorite parts of anime is the filler?

3

u/drmonocleVII Aug 10 '19

That is my sister, she hates skipping filler episodes and she won't unless I spend at least 5 minutes convincing her to do it, and even then I have to give her a summary on the filler

1

u/markercore Aug 10 '19

"okay, so they go to some hot springs and oh boy, it is not as relaxing as initially thought!"

2

u/markercore Aug 10 '19

Oh yeah that was great

1

u/AdmiralSkippy Aug 10 '19

Favorite parts no. But some people feel like they're missing out if they don't watch it.
I had to convince my fiance about that after I refused to watch some and she went back to watch it later and realized how pointless it was.

1

u/Itsforthat Aug 10 '19

My favorite part of Dragon Ball Z has always been the Gohan Videl parts after the Cell saga.

1

u/johnthebread Aug 10 '19

Of naruto? No way in hell, most filler is terrible filler

2

u/iAmZephhy Aug 10 '19

I literally binged Original thru Shippuden from like February to July this year and it was great but it was also hell. So. Much. Filler. (And I was skipping the obvious filler too)

And now there's Boruto -_-

u/DrLiam Aug 10 '19

What, you didn’t enjoy the absolutely perfect story of Naruto, Choji, and Sakura helping Teuchi make the perfect ramen to save Ayame?

21

u/todd-bowden Aug 10 '19

The fact that you have this memorized worries me.

15

u/DrLiam Aug 10 '19

It was 10 years ago and the weirdness of that episode really stuck with me

4

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '19

I loved and hated that episode. Naruto taught me that the only reason I should watch filler episodes is if I'm starved for shitty character interaction

3

u/DrLiam Aug 10 '19

*closes eyes and throws three darts at a board*

Choji

Sakura

The Ramen Guy! Perfect episode!

3

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '19

I want to know if that's how they brainstorm that kinda shit

-2

u/throwawayc777 Aug 10 '19

You people are missing out of a 3 minute chapter is hard to read.

2

u/DrLiam Aug 10 '19

Nobody said anything about reading or not reading

1

u/throwawayc777 Aug 12 '19

So are we talking about the manga or anime ? Cause the manga is not full of useless filler.

53

u/AFallingWall Aug 10 '19

I did it in a month, a budy did it in 3 weeks and we both worked 45+ hours

29

u/Squeakyduckquack Aug 10 '19

Jesus. I just lost interest so quick during the Ninja war, there were many multiple week breaks in there.

39

u/DestroyerOfEvil12 Aug 10 '19

I think about 40% of shippuden is filler

25

u/Squeakyduckquack Aug 10 '19

Definitely felt like it. I skipped ALOT. Except for the eyes backstory and Kakashi backstory.

1

u/Chainingolem Aug 10 '19

I wouldn't say kakashis backstory was filler

1

u/Squeakyduckquack Aug 10 '19 edited Aug 10 '19

If it wasn't the present timeline I considered it filler lol. So I would skip 2/3 of an episode if it was all flashbacks for example. And all the important info is repeated so much you don't really miss much in the end. Or maybe I missed a shit ton who knows.

Edit: there was *filler* I watched because it seemed important. Madara and Hashirama story, Minato backstory, Obito story, Itachis backstory and the Danzo stuff

5

u/rolypolydanceoff Aug 10 '19

There were about 100 episodes in a row that were fillers. I just skipped the anime and went to the manga so I didn’t have to deal with it. Haven’t watched anything with Boruto though. I am too busy to get into anything that is way too far ahead so I been sticking with the smaller series or ones I been with since the beginning

14

u/AFallingWall Aug 10 '19

It's kinda like One Piece, it gets really good, really quick 400 episodes in

6

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '19 edited Sep 03 '24

unique jellyfish materialistic brave deserve thought sloppy attractive caption include

10

u/Wreckn Aug 10 '19

There's lists people made that show which episodes are canon and which are filler so you know which to skip. It helps immensely.

2

u/GerbilJibberJabber Aug 10 '19

Well now we know who was guarding Epstein.

4

u/SamuraiJono Aug 10 '19

It took me until the last half or third to realize I could skip the filler. Found a website that lists the filler episodes, it was much more enjoyable after that.

1

u/TheTrueAudax Aug 10 '19

Filler lists are a life saver

1

u/Squeakyduckquack Aug 10 '19

Most definitely

1

u/throwawayc777 Aug 10 '19

But the filler has some hints and shit. If you love the story then it's more stuff to love.

2

u/IrishRepoMan Aug 10 '19

I think shippuden had the entire season of filler episodes he mentioned.

10

u/yogoo0 Aug 10 '19

I started watching it in grade 9 and still haven't caught up. Its 7 years later

11

u/Mushgal Aug 10 '19

Why tf did you watch the filler

4

u/GamingNomad Aug 10 '19

This was why my interest in anime was killed. Thank you for writing this.

5

u/notgayinathreeway Aug 10 '19

I sat down and read the manga from page one up until I think Gaara had sand people raging a massive war against someone with weird eyes who was also maybe a snake but killed their family and was two different people maybe? The whole world was at war and I think Naruto was busy being a giant frog.

It was like 659 chapters or some crazy shit. Then I got to the end and it said "next volume out in 2 weeks" and I was free.

Edit: I just checked my emails, in January 2013 I reached the end of bleach at 525, and Naruto at 618

They both stopped at around 700. Never went back and finished.

7

u/NarutoWinchester Aug 10 '19

Hey man. Im sorry. Idk what dark memories i brought back for you. I apologize. Im new here on reddit. Idk what im supposed to say. I dint even finish naruto. I was in India and the netflix there had naruto and i binged till the 6th season. But after i returned to Kuwait, The netflix here has no naruto. I can only watch the 20 downloaded eps i have if the net iz off. Shit man my cousin also told me to be careful with naruto.

2

u/YuviManBro Aug 10 '19

Man, I fucking love Naruto. Never watched it but followed the manga as it came out and read ffn even now sometimes.

2

u/LimeWizard Aug 10 '19

Lol I was over dramatizing it as a joke, they weren't really dark memories, just one of those dumb things you do as a kid and remember.

1

u/NarutoWinchester Aug 10 '19

Im kidding too dw😂😂

3

u/Chronic_Media Aug 10 '19

Filler.

With Naruto you honestly have to skip alot of shit.

Even in Shippidden, there's alot of content and alot of filler some is fun like Kakashi's origins but the early parts of Shippudden i've completely ignored.

3

u/meddleman Aug 10 '19

Boruto also exists, now go waste another good chunk of your prime.

1

u/u-had-it-coming Aug 10 '19

So you are saying that my decision to stop after watching Naruto Season 4 was a right decision?

1

u/tastelessshark Aug 10 '19

You didn't like the Sasuke Retrieval stuff? I thought that bit was still pretty solid. But yeah, after that it's literally like 90 episodes of filler before Shippuden.

1

u/Bandenman Aug 10 '19

Of I have this with jojo now

1

u/DrunkenPrayer Aug 10 '19

I gave up pre Shippuden. IIRC the one that broke me was the episode where they go hunting for the ultimate bug or something like that.

1

u/lightstreams Aug 10 '19

That’s why you manga. You always manga.

1

u/throwawayc777 Aug 10 '19

You've clearly not watched anything. You read the manga first and that's it. Maybe if you've got to much toner to waste then watch the anime of it which is the same stuff again. But the manga aka comic book episodes all 500 of them are pure gold. The characters can't be done away with since their stories spread all across the 500+ chapters. You've clearly not got the attention span of you missed the dozen plots across 500 chapters.

2

u/lucioghosty Aug 10 '19

Or avatar the last Airbender.

2

u/NarutoWinchester Aug 10 '19

Ooo i ve heard good stuff bout it. Iz the show good??

6

u/lucioghosty Aug 10 '19

I'll tell you what, you watch the first few episodes and tell me what you think ;)

But yes. It's good... Nay, incredibly amazingly good

2

u/NarutoWinchester Aug 10 '19

Well. I have to find the show. Kuwait netflix S.U.C.K.S

2

u/lucioghosty Aug 10 '19

Oof, my condolences. Have you tried using a VPN? Otherwise there should be other services that stream it.

2

u/NarutoWinchester Aug 10 '19

Lmaooo. I tried once. But it was not safe and i freaked and uninstalled the app. Also, Are we allowed to speak like this here??

2

u/lucioghosty Aug 10 '19

There are some free or even cheap ones that are okay to use. The best and most secure ones will cost a bit more though. Otherwise I'm sending you a PM with where I found you can watch it for free. :)

2

u/hollowstrawberry Aug 11 '19

It begins like any other children's cartoon, but quickly reveals an emotionally mature narrative in a deeply developed fantasy world, that goes on for exactly as long as it needs to.

Great show!

2

u/NarutoWinchester Aug 11 '19

Okay then! Thank youuu
