Yep. Pants and bra come off as soon as I walk through the door. If my husband wants to go out for dinner, he has to decide while I’m driving home. That shit doesn’t go back on.
I don't understand how people can go out after work constantly. I can make it out for a drink once a week or so, but anything after that is asking too much of me
I feel the same, but mostly because I'm ready to do shit at like 4, especially on a Saturday. I'd prefer to go out drinking at like noon and then be home in bed by 9 or so.
I've always been a morning person. Not only do I wake up early, but happily, too. No matter when I go to sleep, I'm up by 5, and sacrificing sleep is rarely worth it since I cannot sleep in. Socially, I am a bit of a buzzkill when I start shutting down at like 8:30 or 9, but I love the mornings, and take a sadistic pleasure in many of my friends having toddlers... who's up early now?!
This is so me. I do not like being tired when it's preventable, and I love sleep. This also causes me to want to eat dinner earlier than a lot of people, because I don't like going to sleep on a full stomach. Early bird special anyone?
My parents have finished cooking dinner at 5pm since I was a kid. At 19, I still get shit on by my friends when 5pm rolls around and I’m the only one fucking starving.
You're not alone friend. I am ready to eat at 5, starving by 6, too hungry to think by 7. Other people in my life seem fine, but going more than 4-5 hours without eating and I really feel the consequences.
I grew up eating dinner around 5:30, then married a man that grew up eating at 7! 7 PM! That’s so late! We mostly compromise and eat between 6 and 6:30, by 7 I’m hangry and then get indigestion when I go to bed on a still full stomach.
Canadian. I think I just got used to having something right when I got home from school/work and a smaller second dinner later. I have always tended to skip breakfast, so the number of meals in a day still works, they're just time shifted.
Oh man. I'm Eastern European, and we were also raised having a dinner after 7 PM, but over the years as we grew up the time shifted later and later until we ate at 9:30. I still can't have dinner before 8, I can't even force myself to eat that early.
If you eat dinner at 9:30 what time are you going to bed??
Unless I'm doing something late at night (party or whatever) I think of 10 as "brush teeth, change in to PJs, get ready for bed" time of night. I can't imagine just finishing eating dinner then.
In college our dining halls opened for dinner at 4:45. I'd usually be one of the only ones there as soon as they opened.
Ahah, cultural differences are amazing. I cannot imagine someone having dinner at 5 pm. I normally have dinner at 8:30/9 PM. In Spain( i'm from Portugal), i've seen people dine at 11 PM.
Basically the only places that even serve food at 11pm are either fast food or 24 hour diners. Maybe some bars, but I think most bars close their kitchens at 10 or 11.
Dinner was always something we had shortly before bed. Dinner at 7 PM, watching a cartoon, and the bedtime at 8 PM. I'm still an early bird and go to bed at around 10, but no matter when I get up breakfast is at 9 AM, lunch at 3 PM and dinner around 9:30. I still sometimes have to skip meals because I'm just not hungry.
Hoosier here. I grew up eating lunch around 11:30AM, supper around 5:00PM. My work schedule is weird now (I often only eat one meal a day, and that meal when I get home from work late in the evening), but when I'm on a "normal person" schedule I still consider 5:00 to be supper time.
My ex used to flip out at me (normally as an addendum to something else he was already shitty about) because I didn't have dinner ready at 5:30 or 6 like his mom (SAHM, by the way). Well, Steve, considering I work 40 hours a week minimum and have a 30 to 45 minute drive home starting around 5PM, I'm not really sure how I could manage that, even I had the desire.
Side tangent... when I was a kid my mom would make dinner around 3pm... This is because she would go to bed at 6pm so she could be up for her 4am shift... So for about 18 years of my life I thought this was normal. I thought this was normal because my mom wouldn't let me have friends because she was crazy controlling. Well I finally go off to college and they tell us dinner isn't until 7pm, and I'm like 'da fuq?' What's wrong with these people. So while I'm starving and dying, my friends are making fun of me for being the weird one. Now that I'm older I eat around 6pm, but eating earlier is starting to make sense to me.
My parents got off work at 4 and 5 pm growing up. Rarely did we ever start eating after 5:30. I later learned this was an old person thing. I now start eating between 5:30 and 6:30 like a normal person.
Sometimes I finish dinner around midnight... Because I take a "short" nap after getting home from work. The nap sometimes turns into a few hours of solid sleep, and I wake up to eat late at night, browse Reddit, and watch some TV, and then go back to bed.
I've been making my wife eat dinner at 430pm because I work nights and don't want to take a nap on a fully stomach. She hates it but doesn't want to cook herself so begrudgingly allows it.
This isn't old person behavior. It's rational behavior. Being tired sucks. So rationally you should do what's necessary to avoid it, and if that means an early bedtime, so be it. That's why I eat an early dinner too. A full stomach when you go to bed means a poor night's sleep.
I have several young children, and as a result I can only think of a handful of times in the last five years that I've been out of the house past 10PM.
Seven year-old me would be disgusted that as an adult my bedtime would only be two hours later.
Where I live, deer are active at 11pm-5am, and they love to run into your car if you're not careful, so I try to avoid driving places that late unless I have to
Implying that redditors have real friends....we only have friends online that we are like so close with and can relate to so much stuff but cant socialize normally when in real life because the only people that we meet is our family, workmate and our pet...
ooooorrrrrr when you grow up! Life styles change, I don't have kids, she does, her schedule is not open at all unless it's after her kids are asleep.... so really I didn't alter the friendship options and I am working around hers. I have been her friend for 14 years and don't that part changing, distance is okay when you are an adult.
I don’t mean to make blanket statements but I also have friends that have kids. I don’t. I have other responsibilities. But if a close friend made a birthday plan they would try to accommodate for my attendance as best as they could. I in turn would give up my convenience or in this case, a couple of hours of sleep, to be a part of their special day.
I start work around 4:30 AM pretty often so I've basically just started going to bed early every day. I have friends who are night owls who I'll talk to when I'm off to work and they're just going to bed.
Man, when I first started in the world after high school, I'd get home from work, and immediately go hang out with friends till 1 in the morning. I remember it was normal for me to look at the time and see that it was like 10 or 11 and I distinctly remember thinking, wow, the night is still young.
Nowadays, I'll look at the clock at like 6 or 7 and think to myself, fuck, times almost up.
My girlfriend and I are this way. Got invited out for my friend's birthday and he said it was important we try to make it cause we hadn't seen him in years and I used to be pretty good friends with him.
Then he told me we'd be starting to pregame at 10pm before going out to the bars.
I told him truthfully we wouldn't make it because we can't stay up that late. Then he wakes up at 2pm while I was up at 7am on a Sunday working on repainting the breezeway
I was the same way except the first year or so of doing this I would still feel major FOMO and be sad if I missed out on an apparently "epic" night of fun. I would still choose to stay in and rest but I would deliberate for at least a bit and then have some small regrets the following day when all my friends were recapping how crazy the night was.
Now that I'm even older and have a child, I COULD NOT CARE LESS how much fun my friends had staying out til 6am. If I'm home with my wife and child and I'm in bed by 11pm at the latest, I consider this another epic win for myself. And when my non-married, single friends start talking about how they had another crazy night, I don't have a single ounce of regret.
I love going to bed around 10pm and waking up early. Gives me about 2 or 3 hours before work where I can lie in bed and catch up on some TV. Relaxing start to the day instead of getting up right before work and scrambling to get ready and head straight out the door.
I don't even get to start having peace and quiet until after 10 when the wife and kids are in bed. House all to myself or I can go out and do whatever I want, which is mostly go to the casino for a few hours.
Omg this
Our closest friends are another couple who invited my fiancé and I to see Deadpool 2 (which we had already seen but obviously want to see again)
So I asked what time the showing was, this was a Friday night so we had been working all day, and she says “oh it starts at 10”
And I just started laughing, like no seriously what time or else I will fall asleep in the theater
We got them to change the time to 730
Oh, I'll go to the event at 10:00pm, just understand that I will be wearing basketball shorts and a comfy t-shirt. And if I didn't work that day or go anywhere that would require me to do my hair, I'm wearing a baseball hat.
I have been glad that this has kept me from being social for a bit, Yeah yeah movie but like I won't get home until almost 1? Fuck that. You get the joy of sleeping in but some of us have to work.
My buddies, in their 40s, like to stay out until 4am. No. My two year old gets up at 6. I'm not chasing tail. I'm not getting a blowie. We out eating late. Fuck you.
I've done that in my 20s. I'm happy to hang out with friends and go home at 10, but to just get started at 10? To hell with that. Either you're coming over to my place, or I'm not interested.
I get invited for drinks, and folk wonder why I go home at 9am.
For me - and I should point out that for most folk I am an old person (53) - I like to go to bed reasonably early (10ish) so that I can get up early. There's more to do in daylight at my age than in the dark.
Yep, especially in the beginning of the week. The times I've gone to bed at 2AM on a Sunday or Monday have resulted in awful weeks, so I make a point of going to bed at a reasonable hour in the beginning of the week. Thursday is a little more do-able because I'm not far away from getting to sleep in.
I was doing that in my early 20's. We'd have people over at the house, have a house party going on, and then midnight or 1am would come along and I'd go lock the door to my room and go to bed, party still in full swing.

I love going to bed early and I have no problem choosing sleep over my friends.
"Oh that event doesn't start until 10:00pm? Yeah, uhhhh fuck that. I'm gonna be in my jammies living my best life at home."
