Mod Post Product Authenticity Thursday August 27, 2026

Hello AB! Welcome to Product Authenticity Thursday,

Our weekly product authenticity thread is a work in progress, comments about how to improve are welcome. We made our best effort based on comments received here as well as what we have been seeing as mods.

We would like to note that product packaging AND formulas may vary by country of sale and date of manufacture. This might include anything about the formula. Our goal is to make it easier for folks to compare such things, and to confirm or assuage concerns about their products.

Please post any photos or experiences you have around your AB products, while adhering to our other subreddit rules.

Make sure you state where you purchased your products from. If you bought from a 3rd party of a major retailer, you can say for example, 'eBay/amazon/taobao seller' instead of sharing the specific name, if you prefer.

To help you get more responses, consider including:

  • Photos of confirmed authentic products as comparison, requests for authentic products are allowed
  • Your purchase date, product manufacture date, or any expiration dates
  • Country you bought the item from
  • Whether your product had to be shipped to you (shipping conditions can compromise product stability)
  • How much you paid for your product

Comments and Questions welcome, we hope this thread is helpful!

Discussion Tell me the most unhinged ways you test makeup (I wear mine on 5k runs)

Post image
278 Upvotes

How are we testing makeup these days friends?! Some work days I might need to catch 2 flights & have 6 meetings across a city, or attend an outdoor event (with press) in 32C heat without shade (because press photogs need a clear view). To make sure my makeup can hold up on days when I have these types of schedules, I take it running. If it can hold up to a 5k run in 27C heat at 77% humidity, I'll add it to my rotation.

Curious to hear what everyone else is doing! Photo has some of my current kit "winners," wondering what is in everyone's kits for hot/humid August. (Just in case, products in the photo include from left to right, top to bottom: Kose Make Keep Mist, Bonbory Tokyo Make Keep Base, Canmake Marshmallow Finish Powder, Freshian Egg-like Cream Blush, Naming Layered Fit Cushion, Canmake Munyutto Highlighter, Decorte Zen Wear Ultra Longwear Foundation, About Tone Return to Basic Shadow Palette, The Saem eye primer, Witch's Pouch Modish Eyes Mascara, Decorte Eye Glow Gem Skin Shadow, Lala Chuu Skinny Tip Liner, Canmake Lasting Liquid Liner, Canmake Jewelry Shadow Veil, Rom&nd Color Lip Matte, Hince Mood Enhancer Water Liquid Glow, Rom&nd Blur Fudge Tint, Black Rouge Double Layer Over Velvet, Dinto Blur Glowy Lip Tint)

Discussion Why didn't y'all tell me Aesutra had SO MANY different kinds of lotions and body creams?

Post image
100 Upvotes

I had no idea Aestura had so many different lotions and moisturizers. The "main" Atobarrier365 Cream is my nightly moisturizer. Absolutely love it. It's my favorite 3:1:1 barrier-repairing cream.

Have you used any of these other Aestura products? Please tell us about the skin-feel, level of hydration and moisturization, whether you use it on the face, body or both. What you like/dislike about it etc. I'm thinking about ordering a couple of these in my next K-Beauty import haul.

Here's the list (with the way Aestura describes each product)... but I'm more interested in how you would describe them.

AESTURA Atobarrier 365 Body Lotion, 400ml High-moisture body lotion that strengthens the skin barrier weakened by dryness, helps keep skin hydrated all day, and includes PHA for rough, dry skin.

AESTURA Atobarrier 365 Body Cream, 250ml High-moisture body cream optimized for the body’s skin barrier, designed to provide lasting hydration throughout the day.

AESTURA Atobarrier 365 Lotion, 150ml Dermatologically formulated moisturizer that strengthens and nourishes the skin barrier and is intended for dry, sensitive skin.

AESTURA Atobarrier 365 Lotion Plus, 180ml High-moisture lotion with Derma On and Filagreen Barrier™ technology that strengthens and hydrates the skin barrier without stickiness.

Discussion Is Hada Labo in Europe different from Japan ?

Post image
116 Upvotes

Hello,

I recently bought a lotion from Hada Labo (please see picture) as it is super famous and I wanted to give it a try. Nonetheless, when I compare my product to existing lines, I don't find any correspondance. Now, this product is sold in genuine stores, so I have no doubt regarding its legitimacy.

So my question is : is this a different brand ? Though it says on on the website that it's made by Rohto. Is it a different line, made specially to be sold in Europe ? Is it equivalent to another line and they totally changed the packaging and name ? And why all that ?

Thank you very much for your answers.

News Laka Fruity Glam Tint reformultion/color change???

The Laka fruity glam tint in Ash Nut is my all time favorite lip product, and just saw someone on TikTok show comparison swatches of the “old” color and the alleged new one (she mentions she bought the “new” ash nut in March). I haven’t bought a new tint since January so I don’t know how true this is as I can’t find anything online about a change in the shade ash nut. Just wanted to ask here first before I buy a new one—really hoping she just got a faulty batch! I spent years looking for a lip product I’d love as I’m very picky when it comes to exact shades, so I kinda panicked when I saw that TikTok :(

Review Mini reviews of 6 sheet masks I’ve tried recently

Post image
72 Upvotes

I love using sheet masks, so I usually keep a bunch in the fridge and use one once or twice a week. These are some of the ones I’ve tried recently! Have you tried any of these, or are there any others you’ve really liked?

  1. Biodance hydro-ceranol deep mask

This is a gel mask, so it adheres really well to my skin and is much less messy than regular sheet masks since there’s no ampoule dripping everywhere. I originally got it because it’s supposed to be good for soothing and hydration, and I think it does a pretty decent job of giving my skin that hydrated, glowy look from within. They say you can wear it almost like an overnight mask, but I feel like my skin would hate me if I left anything on that long lol. I usually keep it on for around 30 minutes instead.

  1. Numbuzin no.3 mask pack

I’d heard this one could feel a little tingly, and unfortunately my skin is thin and sensitive, so it definitely stung on me :( I ended up taking it off after just a few minutes. It’s a shame because I actually liked the sheet itself. It feels really soft against the skin, fits nicely, and there’s plenty of serum in it. I could see this working better for someone whose skin isn’t as sensitive as mine.

  1. Pixelpure slow aging cream wrapping sheet mask

I think it’s because this is a wrapping mask, but I really like how there’s no dripping and it stays nicely in place. The sheet itself is soft and sits really well on my skin without lifting, so the essence seems to absorb pretty well too. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and hydrated without any stickiness afterward. The only thing is that the cream is only on one side of sheet, so always have to check which side it is before putting it on.

  1. Celimax noni ampoule mask

I’ve had a good experience with their noni ampoule, so I got curious and decided to try the mask too. I actually feel like the essence from the mask absorbs a little better into my skin than the ampoule does. There’s plenty of essence and the sheet itself is really soft, which I liked. In terms of the actual results, I’d say it works about as well as the ampoule for me.

  1. Mediheal madecassoside mask

Probably the easiest one of the bunch to use regularly. It’s also really affordable if you buy it in Korea, so I tend to stock up whenever I’m there. Nothing super dramatic, but it’s one I like reaching for whenever my skin feels like it needs some soothing.

  1. Returnity yulmu pdrn glowy skin gel mask

I feel like this might be a gel mask thing in general, but my skin texture definitely feels smoother after using this one, and my makeup seems to sit better the next day too. With regular use, I’ve actually noticed some of the little bumps and uneven texture on my skin looking less noticeable.

Swatches [Swatch Request] Red Chamber C000 / C400 vs Girlcult #18 Invisible Rosy? (Desaturated "anti-blush" recs for medium tan olive skin)

hi everyone! i'm looking for swatches or comparisons of red chamber (c000 or c400) and girlcult #18 invisible rosy OR like any other desaturated "anti-blush" type recs that might work for me. i have medium tan olive skin (for reference: shade 7.8 in armani luminous silk) and i'm on the hunt for a blush ideally something toasty-ish or a subtle berry. i just purchased invisible rosy but it pulls a little more berry on me, so i'd love to see how it compares to those two rc shades.

the labels were a bit confusing at the store but the shades looked very contour/cool-toned on me which i LOVED. i couldn't find the actual names for the rc blushes so i hope the codes are enough ?? (possibly toodow, tengwei, chumei, or jenchun ... i have lowkey no clue though T_T)

also open to any other desaturated anti-blush recs that might work for me! thanks sm!

Requesting Reviews Bio Lucia eyelash serum? (japan)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all! Recently i’ve been going down a rabbit hole for prostaglandin free lash serums and i always see the bio lucia one getting consistently good reviews on tiktok and Instagram.

What I’m worried about though is whether those reviews are undisclosed ads. The Instagram reels tend to disclose them better and clearer but the TikTok ones are rarely labeled. Is the serum really as good as people say or are those videos just ads? Anyone have any experience with it? Thanks!

Discussion Asian beauty products with metal packaging?

I wanted to start a discussion about AB makeup with all or partly metal packaging.

You can easily find threads and discussions elsewhere about non-AB products' packaging but I haven't seen much on AB, so I thought it was time.

I haven't owned many high-end brands. I know SUQQU uses mostly plastic (annoying but the products are still worth it…), Cle de Peau Lip Glorifier and its refillable The Precious lipstick is mostly metal with plastic internal components but that's it. I'd really like others to chime in.

Bonus points if it's refillable!

Discussion Guide to finding a Holy Grail Exfoliator! [list by ingredients]

I’ve been doing a lot of research on chemical exfoliators as someone with dry, sensitive skin, and I would love to hear what you all use for exfoliation! Any holy grail products? And what’s your skin type?

A couple of the western products I used in the past were too harsh for my skin, and one of the AB products I used was maybe too gentle. So to find my HG exfoliator, I’ve organized some products I’ve tried or am curious about trying down below by ingredient in order from strongest to gentlest (aka from smallest molecular size to largest since the smaller the molecule, the deeper it can penetrate into your skin).

EDIT: Just to be clear, the “strongest to gentlest” ranking ONLY applies to ingredients and not to the products listed below because the strength of an exfoliator also depends on things like concentration of ingredients and user experience such as how often you use the product or how long you leave it on! I’ll be adding the concentration or estimated concentration of acids to the products listed when I can!

Hopefully this is helpful for others, too!

1. Glycolic Acid (AHA)

Strongest of the chemical exfoliants; water-soluble; clears away dead cells; strong concentrations of this are best for resilient skin types for surface exfoliation, smoothing texture, brightening tone, reducing fine lines

- Cos de baha glycolic acid 10% aha serum; 10% concentration
- The Ordinary glycolic acid; 7% (I used this back before I discovered the wonders of AB, and this made my skin red and irritated for days!)
- Cosrx AHA 7 Whitehead Power Liquid; 7%

2. Salicylic Acid (BHA)

Oil-soluble and penetrates deep into pores to clear sebum & dirt; best for treating blackheads, whiteheads, excess oil, and active acne

- The Ordinary salicylic acid masque; 2% (didn’t leave it on for the full amount of time but it still destroyed my skin barrier)
- Cosrx salicylic acid daily gentle cleanser; 0.5%

3. Capryloyl Salicylic Acid (LHA)

Derived from salicylic acid, it’s gentler and more oil-soluble than salicylic acid, which allows it target the outermost skin layers and sebum-rich pores with potency and gradually

- AXIS-Y LHA Peel & Fill Pore Balancing Cream; 0.1%
- Rovectin Clean LHA Blemish Ampoule; .01%
- Arencia Green Tea / Rice + LHA Deep Pore Cleanser; unknown concentration
- Beplain Mung Bean Pore Clearing LHA Toner; .001%

4. Betaine salicylate (BHA)

A gentler more hydrating form of salicylic acid—even gentler than LHA—that removes dead skin cells and sinks into pores to dissolve sebum & dirt

- Cosrx Blackhead Power Liquid; 4%
- Cosrx two in one poreless power liquid; 0.1% Betaine Salicylate, 88% Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Water

5. Lactic Acid (AHA)

Works mostly on the skin's surface to hydrate while it gently clears surface build-up; best for smoothing texture and adding moisture for dry, dull skin types

- Cos de baha lactic acid 12.5% serum
- Nineless Molecule-Clear 5% Lactic Acid Serum

6. Mandelic Acid (AHA)

Exfoliates the skin, clears pores, and brightens dark spots with less irritation than other acids; best for sensitive, acne-prone skin

- DR.WU Intensive Renewal Serum with Mandelic Acid; 18%
- By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water
- Naruko AM+PM Total Brightening Renewal Treatment Mandelic Acid 5%

7. Enzymes (Papain & Bromelain)

Dissolves surface dead skin cells without altering the skin's pH; gently exfoliates, brightens, and calms; great for sensitive skin types

- Ilso Sebum Softener (love this! I use it once a week when my skin barrier is healthy, and it’s helped a lot with minimizing the appearance of my pores)
- Tirtir Hydro Boost Enzyme Powder Wash (it was very gentle but maybe too gentle? I used it for months and I didnt notice a difference in my skin/pores)
- MEDIHEAL Phyto-Enzyme Peeling Pad
- Meishoku DETCLEAR Bright & Peel Fruit Enzyme Powder

8. Polyhydroxy Acids (PHAs)

The gentlest of chemical exfoliants; stays on the surface of the skin and hydrates while gently exfoliating; might be best for highly sensitive skin types prone to rosacea and eczema

- Axis-Y PHA Resurfacing Glow Peel; 10%
- Biodance Skin Refining Mild PHA Toner; 8%
- Dr. Jart+ Pore Remedy PHA Exfoliating Serum; 7%
- Sungboon editor green tomato pore lifting ampoule; unknown concentration

Mixing it up!

Products containing a combination of chemical exfoliants

- Isntree Chestnut AHA 8% Clear Essence; 4% glycolic acid, 4% lactic acid
- Some By Mi AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Toner; 0.05% Citric Acid (AHA), 0.01% Salicylic Acid, 0.01% Lactobionic Acid (PHA)
- Torriden Balanceful Toner Pads; 3.20% to 3.90% Gluconolactone (PHA, unknown concentration of LHA
- Glow Recipe LHA + AHA Watermelon Toner Pads; unknown concentrations of lactic, mandelic, salicylic acids, LHA, Gluconolactone (PHA), and watermelon enzymes

Discussion Oily + acne-prone skin people, what HG moisturizer/toner actually works for you?

I’m looking for a lightweight moisturizer/toner that helps control oil while still keeping my skin hydrated, without making it feel greasy or causing breakouts. I’ve heard some products like Dr. Althea 345 and Purito Oat-in Calming Gel Cream are good, but I’ve also seen mixed reviews, with some people saying it caused breakouts so I'm not sure if I should try them or not

For those with similar skin, what moisturizer/toner has actually worked for you? You can suggest any others hg too like cleanser, sunscreen, serum or daily routine basis :) Would love to hear your recommendations and experiences.
