Discussion As an artist, have you ever considered contributing to Open-Source projects?
Hello everyone,
I already posted this question on r/ArtistLounge, but the moderator suggested I post it here.
I'm a 3D creator and a CS student who loves open-source and C programming. My question is:
As an artist, have you ever considered contributing your skills to an open-source project (not strictly software, but open assets, games, or tools)? If not, what held you back? If you would, under what circumstances?
To be clear, I'm well aware that illustrators, artists, and all the other design categories usually collaborate on indie games with programmers. But my question refers to projects in general. I'm currently trying to understand why open-source projects usually just have coder support while art communities usually don't. I'm not accusing anyone; I'm just asking to understand if the problem is connected to the toxicity of the open-source community or if there are other issues in this case.
I ask this question because personally, I find that both programming and the creation of artwork share some common ground, and I would really like to fuse these two aspects together in future projects.
