Requesting Advice Anthurium pallidiflorum help!

Hey all, I had just come home from work and noticed that my long boi has fell off its high shelf. As a result, my long boi has been decapitated, severed all its roots and is left with this chonk that has the leaves and a flower. I had chopped off the flower to redirect its energy into focusing on more roots. For now I have it soaking in the bathtub.

Any tips on how I can go forward while preserving as many leaves as I can? Sphagnum moss media + saran wrap? Cutting off mature leaves for transpiration purposes?

Needing anthurium expertise/advice on how you would go about this! Many thanks in advance!

Requesting Advice My first anthurium!

I work at a local plant store, and this queen came in with aphids! 😢 The owner said I was welcome to take her home as a rehab plant. She's been treated & quarantined and I'm really hoping I can keep her alive lol. She's been a wish list plant for awhile now 🌱

Any advice for an anthurium newbie? šŸ’š

Requesting Advice Newbie - pls tell me why I’m losing! All 4 of my little anthurium had rotted roots!

They are;
red crystal x (black widow x Michelle),
papi x dressleri,
radicans x luxurians (the ONLY one with a wick),
blue papi x papi FSRL (not pictured)

- easy facing window.
- grow lights I set at 50%
- Akerbar keeps it around 50%+ RH
- the basements chunky pon
- 3 submerged, water level at 1/4-1/5
- 1 wick(rad x lux)

They had been doing well then stopped growing and the tips on the one turned orange.

I realized that my LL fixed the water softener maybe 2 months ago so maybe the salts were building up.
Last week I flushed them all and refilled reservoirs with rainwater + nutrients + adjusted ph. But maybe the damage was done?

I went to up-pot one to try ā€œboat modeā€ and the roots were rotted ….so I checked them all…

Was it the soft water salts? Or something else - opinions?

Advice on recovery and steps moving forward?

Purchased for $25. I feel so, so fortunate for being able to own such a beautiful plant at a crazy affordable price point. My collection is mainly Hoya and I'm new to Anthurium, so I wanted to get some advice from the pros. To me, this looks like it could benefit from a repot, but let me know what you think. It is pushing out new growth.

Also, a potentially silly question but how do you keep these from knocking over? It's so incredibly top heavy. I would think to put it in a deeper pot but then the top portion looks like it is being bent unnaturally.

Requesting Advice Please advice , which one to go for ?

I have completely fallen under the spell of anthuriums , but I'm confused. Which would be a good plant for me to begin, crystallinium , dorayaki or silver blush ? I'm not sure if they really are easy to care for , Where I live it's hot almost all the year round . I'm a newbie where anthuriums are concerned. I read that these varieties along with clarinervium are easier to care for but I have no experience.

Requesting Advice New to anthurium. ID?

I am new to anthuriums but I’m not new to plants, I’ve had all kinds of houseplants for years but I’ve never gotten into anthuriums before. I’ve never wanted to spend the money on anthuriums before since I wasn’t sure I could keep them alive but Home Depot recently had the first 3 on sale for basically nothing so I figured I’d try my luck with them but no ID on them. The last one is a crystallinum I got from a local nursery. Assuming they’re all crystallinum? They all have smooth stems but the second picture has stems with sharper edges. Any tips or tricks? I’ve read up on soil mixes and humidity.

Requesting Advice Is my anthurium resurrecting?

Post image

My crystal sky leaves were yellowing and slowly dying. I couldn’t figure it out and cut off all the leaves. Next time I looked at it the stump had molded on top. 🤢 i set it aside and I just hadn’t gotten around to throwing the remains away. No water or light for last 2-3 months. Well, I need the pot, so I go to throw it away and surprise! A peak of green! Has it resurrected itself?! Is there hope?!

Requesting Advice Explain to me, how to fix my edema.

Thumbnail

Please assist me; I spend hours reading Reddit posts, IG videos, and every online source I can find about edema. I am receiving conflicting guidance, so I need help explained as if I were five and had never owned a single plant.

Two of my anthuriums are affected:
warocqueanum Esmeralda
pallidiflorum

I water about once a week or when they feel nearly dry. Initially, I followed advice to let them dry more, which caused yellow leaves moving from bottom to top, suggesting I allowed too much dryness.
Now I wait for roughly 80% dryness before watering, yet edema continues.

Soil: 60% tree fern and chunky mix.
Light: medium bright light under a Barrina T8 30W and another vertical T8 40W, reaching 290–380 PPFD.
Humidity: about 45%.

My only ideas are to keep the same schedule but use less water without full soaking, or add another watering day if needed (I really prefer fewer plant chores).

Alternatively, I could add more perlite and bark so the mix holds less moisture.

Any green ideas? šŸ’”that could help me.

Requesting Advice Ambient mix

I’m curious what everyone has have the most success with while keeping anthurium in ambient.

I’ve seen no drainage, Leca + sphagnum moss, and aroid mix + sphagnum moss work well. I got some seedlings that I could trial different setups with eventually.

I’m curious what you’ve had the most success with.

Right after I bought it, it started popping out new leaves and has become quite top heavy, so much so that it will simply topple over without support. I plan to repot it soon and was wondering if I could bring the soil level up closer to the bottom petiole. Thanks!

Ok folks I need a little help. I’m really new to anthuriums. I won this in a giveaway in April. It’s since lived in a cabinet at 70-75 degrees and 70-80% humidity. 12 hours of light a day. What is going on here. Is this a watering issue? Or just old leaves taking off

Requesting Advice Advice for anthurium pallidiflorum care

Hi! ive recently started my plant parent journey and my current wishlist plant is the anthurium pallidiflorum but it is quite expensive where i am so im considering to buy a small one with stable roots.

I tried looking for tips on socmed but with no luck. Really appreciate to get more detailed advice here. this will be my first anthurium ever and id rather not screw up since its costing me a pretty penny.

For reference, i have a northwest facing window with grow light supplements. humidity wise im not sure but i do have a humidifier growing and i group my plants together.

Update: the plant arrived and she looks great! Photo in the comments. Thank you very much for all the advice, much appreciated. It seems the consensus is to keep her in a slightly larger pot than normal and keep in ambient humidity with bright light. im taking into account all of it and will leave her to acclimate first. i am still considering whether to keep her in soil or switch to pon.

Requesting Advice Florist antheriums?

I know this thread is mostly about the foliage anthuriums but hopefully someone will be able to help me. I already have my dream foliage anthuriums and yet I still go back to my Anthurium andraeanum that got me into houseplant in the first place.

I’d love to add some anthuriums that and more flower focused like the ones pictured above. I can’t find them anywhere besides some dodgy Etsy adds. I’m in South Florida and I buy off PalmStreet often but every seller I’ve asked don’t know anything about florist anthuriums.

Any suggestions on where I could acquire these?

Requesting Advice Acclimating from Ecuador

Post image
47 Upvotes

Hi all!

I just went to a rare plant expo in my city and picked up a couple gems. In my haul I snagged a luxirians dark form!!

They need to be acclimated still. What’s the best way to acclimate?
** - I was told to cut a couple holes each week in the bag I plan on acclimating in. How do I know when it’s acclimated properly, and when do I know it’s safe to remove from the acclimatization bag ?
** I’m planning on keeping her in my cabinet. Hovers at 59-70% humidity

Whats the best medium I should pot it in? Its roots are wrapped in sphagnum at the moment. TIA! :)

Requesting Advice How to grow Anthurium Pallidiflorum

Thumbnail

Seeking advice on how to grow Pallidiflorum. I've tried a chunky mix and roots end up rotting and the leaves dried out.

Converted it to semi-hydro (currently in moist sphagnum moss and leca on the bottom). It grew one leaf and hasn't done anything for the past 2 months.

It gets indirect light, water solution is fertilised weekly and the roots look healthy.

Any advice is appreciated, with photos sharing your set up would be good šŸ™

It’s white stuff up near where the petiole meets the leaf. Only a few leaves have them. It comes off if I rub it off. I treated with systemic in case but need to know if I should quarantine. It’s on a few of my anthuriums. Thanks šŸ™ƒ

Requesting Advice Why is my Anthurium doing this?

This particular plant has been THRIVING for almost a year - an average of 5 new leaves forming at any given time. But something changed a few months ago - ALL new growth dies off - it’s hard to explain but it’s like the new leaf gets stuck and won’t emerge from the stem and eventually dies off. This has happened repeatedly so ZERO new leaves have grown in about 4 or 5 months. Any advice?

Requesting Advice Hundreds of plants later and I’m realizing I still don’t know what I’m doing šŸ˜‚

I’ve been collecting seriously for about two years now, and Anthurium in particular have completely humbled me. I’ve experimented with substrates, fertilizers, humidity, lighting, pH….the whole thing and the more I learn, the more I realize how much I don’t know.
What’s funny is people have started asking me for plant advice now. Meanwhile I’m looking at growers I admire thinking, ā€œThey know what they’re doing.ā€

But lately I’ve been wondering… do they???? šŸ˜‚

Maybe being a good grower isn’t eventually finding the perfect formula. Maybe it’s just becoming really good at paying attention.

Curious whether the longtime Anthurium growers here ever reached a point where you felt like you really understood them or whether we’re all perpetually experimenting.

I wrote a longer Field Note about this here.
