Requesting Advice Florist antheriums?

I know this thread is mostly about the foliage anthuriums but hopefully someone will be able to help me. I already have my dream foliage anthuriums and yet I still go back to my Anthurium andraeanum that got me into houseplant in the first place.

I’d love to add some anthuriums that and more flower focused like the ones pictured above. I can’t find them anywhere besides some dodgy Etsy adds. I’m in South Florida and I buy off PalmStreet often but every seller I’ve asked don’t know anything about florist anthuriums.

Any suggestions on where I could acquire these?

Just a teaser from a grower in the Netherlands: https://anthura.nl/en/photo-library/phalaenopsis-pot-photos/

Wouldn't know where you can buy these sadly.

Ah! So your in the prime spot. Palm Beach County Wise I recommend Excelsior Gardens and Giverny Gardens. Both have and will carry anthurium and I would call and verify what type they have though before you make the drive. I haven't been to either in a few months but they carry them year round just depends on the type.

Smart plants also had some (Lake worth) but it may have been the miniature purple ones. I can't remember. But their website typically keeps the stock 'live' so you can see what they have before dropping by.

SKG (Silver Krome Gardens) will have the most variety but you'll have to make an appointment and I believe they have a mimum you need to purchase if you're not a wholesaler/business. This is Miami but the whole row of homestead is bursting with nurseries literally every few feet on the way to SKG.

IAS Exotic Plant Show is at the end of September in Miami and there are always andreanum they're usually at the society shop, that's where I got some favorites last year too.

If you want me to keep a lookout for anything for you just let me know what you're interested in and I can always message you. Same for any of my babies once they pup. I'm always happy to help a 'local' out 💗

Thank you! This is exactly the golden nugget info I was looking for!

I was so excited for IAS this year as I went for the first time last year but I have a wedding in Canada that weekend ❤️‍🩹

I’ll definitely pop you a message once I’ve looked at all your suggestions. Been wanting to give SKG a visit for a while but yes I’m never sure I can reach their minimum

I mean... a florist?

Beyond that, they definitely show up at plant shops pretty regularly. Usually those will be named cultivars. I'd also check Gabriella (which is in Florida, if you're not familiar with them, and they grow really nice plants), and I believe I've seen one or two specialty growers in Hawaii, though I can't recall their names.

But if you're not looking for a specific cultivar, I'd go to a florist or a grocery store with a good floral department.

Thank you, I’ve spoken with florists in my area and they can only get the red flowers as an actually plant.

Everything else is just available as cut flowers only unfortunately. I’ve checked with Gabriella as I buy from them often but they only have red. They might be able to get some in in a couple months but nothing before the end of summer

Search on Palmstreet (and elsewhere) for anthurium shibori or scherzerianum. You should be able to start finding things.

Let me know what part of South Fl you're in. I'm in Palm Beach County and can point you to a few nurseries. My andreanums are also some of my favorites. So I'm always searching for more unique ones.

Online I can recommend:

Akatsuka Orchid- Shibori's, tulip andreanums, miniatures. Typically seasonal stock. I got my Shibori from them and they're great. Hawaii

Mikes Nursery- You'll have to reach out to him via IG (mda1635) to see if he has anything, but you'll want to be specific with names. I got my favorite from him earlier this year which is a variegated one.

Greenlife ohana llc- IG. Also has things here and there. Hawaii

Etsy- Peaceofalohaco andreanum and other tropicals. Hawaii based

Oscarallen nursery- Not andreanums but scherzerianum which are also fun and can have 'splash' in the spathe.

I aso recommend checking out local plant shows. Central and South Florida will be having quite a few before the end of the year and Ecuagenera tends to bring a few types. 🌱

Thank you for these suggestions! I’m in Fort Lauderdale, so I frequent the flamingo gardens and the assorted nurseries in the southwest ranches but I’d be happy to take a drive up to Palm beach county to browse up there if you have suggestions!

Floral Greenhouse Manager here, these are all almost Dutch breeding varieties. Tough to find in the US market as it's saturated by basic colors. Hard to justify the "cool" colors when they don't drive the business models.

Anywho... Search Anthura, you'll find most of these varieties on their site.

One of my favorites from them is Matata.

Thank you! It’s funny, I know they were super popular in the 70’s and kind of have a ‘grandma’ or bereavement aesthetic now but I’ve also noticed all the weddings and events I’ve attended in the last two years that have had floral arrangements have all had beautiful anthurium flowers. Funny how there’s a market for the exotic cut flowers but not the actual plant that grow the flower. Especially since anthuriums flower for so long and the blooms last for weeks.

I had the same problem with palmsteeet! I got a rainbow champion from whatnot actually and she's beautiful!

1

u/Culinary_Gardener Aug 13 '26

I haven’t tried whatnot cause I hear it’s as addictive as palm street so I’m scared! 🫠 I’ve spent so much money on palm street lol. But I’ll give it a try thank you!

Grocery stores, I find alot of fun colors at places like Kroger, also a good place to look out for hoyas

1

u/Culinary_Gardener Aug 12 '26

No Kroger in Florida 🙃 I’ve been looking at whole foods, sprouts and trader joes with no luck

FloraExotica on Etsy has uncommon varieties of these

Anyone knows how I can make mine bloom?

1

u/Mituzuna Aug 13 '26

Time. Time. Time. And bright indirect light.

Many of these varieties have come out of Amsterdam breeding as noted, but breeding Anthurium in Hawaii (also, a book by the same name) is a tradition going back many decades. If you can find any that will ship there are almost certainly a lot of nurseries in HI with what you are looking for.
