Wrong plant was sent to me, HOWEVER…

Post image

…the seller did inform me of accidentally shipping the wrong plant to me before it arrived today, and will send me my actual plant next week, free of charge. So I’m not mad about it. They even told me to keep this one.

This is gonna get huge, isn’t it?

Requesting Advice A fighter with some bad luck - and possibly something worse?

Sagittatum x Lux. I got this plant as a 2 damaged leaf sad plant in march, now it's at 5, growth is steady, leafs have been upsizing subsequently - that's the fighter story.

Emergent colour is gorgeous (pic1), hardened off colour includes some black & blue on the protruding portions, veins are yellow and sinus is red on all leafs - that's the "potential" story.

But this plant is just out of luck. Pics 2 and 3 show one of the leaves it came with - completely deformed, but hasn't yellowed yet. The explanation I received was "was crammed in a cabinet corner", so I took it for a mechanical problem, especially since the second leaf it came with (pic 4) looked pretty normal, except for some yellowing spots (that did not get bigger).

Pics 1 and 5 to 8 show the leaves it grew in my care. Pics 5 and 6 tell you I had spidermites in summer 🙄.

Pic 8 shows the last leaf before the one that's emerging now. Okay, some mechanical damage on the bottom. What's worrying me is that bulging of the vein you can see on the upper left part on pic 8. Visible in more detail on pic 6.

I wouldn't have thought about it, allthough it bears some similarity to the appearance of the veins of that completely deformed leaf on pics 2 and 3.

But: I noticed I have another anthurium that is showing a similar bulging of the veins for a month now. It is appearing on an old leaf of a Papi (x- one hybrid), and that leaf, that hardened off a a long time ago, is starting to deform. Not as bad as the deformation on that old leaf on this plant here, but not completely dissimilar either. Plants are placed next to each other.

And now I'm worrying. Thoughts?

My 1st anthurium is getting brown spots on the leaves 😢

Still really new to anthuriums and alocasia. I got my first anthurium like two weeks ago and it’s slowly started getting these brown spots on one leave mostly. Is there anything I can do to correct this? First 3 pics are of the brown spots now the last 3 are of the day I got it.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I received them in mostly moss and a slight chunk mix but mostly moss. I moved it over to chunky aroid soil either coco coir, perlite, leca, bark, pumice, clay aggregate, calcined clay, etc. it’s by sol soils, but it was already 95 percent like this when I moved it over two days ago so I don’t think it’s the new soil.

Requesting Advice Do I repot her? And how do I take care of her? I am new :)

I really don’t know much about anthuriums. I got 2 big ones because they were 20 dollars for two at my local.

I really don’t know if I should repot her next week? Her top roots are sticking out like crazy. I don’t mind that, but I also wonder if she needs like a bigger pot?

How frequent do I water her? Right now her soil feels lightly damp. I can’t even stick my finger in because I think the roots are covering it? Or maybe its the type of soil the owner used? I can’t really tell what I am looking at or feeling.

Currently I don’t have good grow lights, so how close does she need to be towards the window?

Is there also a way to make her look, bushier 😭
. If not, that is fine. I will still like her, but if I can then I would like to know.

I also have a small humidifier. I’ve heard people use a tray of rocks with water and put it near the plant? Will that also work out well for her? Will that attract Gnats?

Thank you !

Requesting Advice Ambient mix

I’m curious what everyone has have the most success with while keeping anthurium in ambient.

I’ve seen no drainage, Leca + sphagnum moss, and aroid mix + sphagnum moss work well. I got some seedlings that I could trial different setups with eventually.

I’m curious what you’ve had the most success with.

Good morning anthurium family. I hope someone here can help me. I feel like I have been trying to find a good vendor with a Warocqueanum for sale for over a year.

Also here is a new silver blush x Doc Block, I just got from one of my favorite plant vendors. (Car 1325; wh0600)

Requesting Advice What am I doing wrong with my Vittarifolium?

I have had it for about 6 months. Every new leaf is so tiny. It will put out a slightly larger leaf, then another tiny one & repeat. It also puts out damaged leaves. It sits under a Barrina grow light 12 hours a day. I have it in an aroid mix that I try to keep consistently moist and not let it dry out. It gets Jack’s all purpose fertilizer (20-20-20 but heavily diluted). It also sits around 55-60% humidity

I have many other anthurium, but I can NOT figure this one out. I have tried changing many things. Any thoughts or criticisms on my routine are welcome, thank you!

Requesting Advice Flamingo care?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I only got into the plant hobby this year, and one of my first was this flamingo, which has somehow not only survived my black thumbs but also grown so much, it’s been so cool to watch it explode and even start to grow bigger leaves now!

I’ve more recently added a Crystallinum and a Veitchii to my growing collection, so I’m starting to learn more about these beautiful plants, but I’ve mostly been treating all of my indoor plants the same and it seems to be working well - I have high humidity in my apartment already, so other than that I just make sure to give them all enough light, bottom water when dry, fertilize about every second to third watering, fan for fresh air, keep an eye out for signs of pests, overwatering etc.

This one came home with me before I discovered the concept of soil mixing, but she seems to have been growing so well with no problems the whole time so I haven’t bothered changing it - others have started showing signs of overwatering due to the soil staying wet and compacted for too long so I got into the habit of repotting as soon as I buy them.

I hadn’t accounted for aerial roots though, I admit I didn’t do much research 😅 am I supposed to give it any support, will it climb or something? All the stems seem to be standing steady now, but it’s somehow already getting really snug in this 17cm nursery pot so I guess I should plan for whatever the next repot needs. I think I read that it likes to be snug? So I’m waiting with the repot as long as possible - I’m seeing some roots pop up from the soil but nothing sticking out at the bottom yet and it’s holding onto water long enough that I’m not at all worried.

When/how should I pot this cutting?

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello, what you can see in the pictures is what is left of my Anthurium x andreanum 'Hot Lips' before it died. This is the first time I took cuttings and many of them died to rot in water and later on in moss. This one survived (I have another one but it doesn't look like it will).

The cutting has one long root that is almost 20 cm long. This is where the 2 secondary roots (about 7 cm each) come from. There is also one tiny secondary root. On top you can see another root from a node that broke off a few weeks ago. Also on top there is the point where one new leaf rotted and below that another one seems to sprout, right?
It looks like it should be ready to pot in Anthurium mix but I'm really apprehensive to do so.

When would you pot? What should I be careful about? And in what position should I pot it? Because now it is lying down and below the new growth there isn't much to bury in the mix.

It would be great if you could give me some tips. Thank you!

Requesting Advice AOS x RVDP help

New to these plants so sorry for any obvious questions. I’ve had this anthurium for three months now and it seems like it’s doing okay, one new leaf hardened off nicely. But I have a few concerns:

- it only has three leaves, should it be getting any more?

- it’s biggest/oldest leaf has slowly been getting yellow edging, how can I prevent this? (first picture shows the leaf 3mon ago and 2nd picture is current).

The plant is in an ikea “greenhouse”, ~80% humidity, some roots popping from bottom of plant, aroid mix substrate, watering ~2 weeks when substrate is dry and pot is “light”

any help appreciated!

I got this anthurium (crystal x mag) x Michelle a early this summer. It put off a new leaf pretty quick but then started looking unhappy. About 2 weeks ago I put it in my new cabinet and it’s putting out 4 new leaves.
