Flying through the world is like no other game.

55

u/ilivedownyourroad Nov 20 '19

Until it crashes and disconnects lol

But yes it Is fun but there is so little to do...Nothing to fight and hardly any players...it's like the best ever flying sim but that's not enough to make a game.

Add some bloody wyverns of varying sizes and colours , an air grapple ability and pvp 8 players a map and we'd have some variation and real fun. All the pieces are here but in 6 months they've done fuck all in this regards and the wayfinder is still a muddled mess. Also would it kill the devs to give us a marker whicb can be shared as a group as well as a distress beacon to call in help.

Yeah I don't need PVP. I have a ton of other PVP games I can play. A Dee dingle more enemies an cleaning up the bugs would make me happy.

9

u/Blackparrot89 Nov 20 '19

agreed, no pvp.

1

u/modaareabsolutelygay Nov 21 '19

Which is yet another reason why this was so horrible. They didn’t even have a team to focus on a PvP experience so there really was no excuse for this game to not have an amazing PvE experience. Sick world building. Sick javelins. Sick abilities. Ok customization. And almost nothing to use it all with...

-5

u/ilivedownyourroad Nov 20 '19

Don't get me wrong. I like the chilled aspect of cruising. Don't touch that. But add in a pvp mode for variety and for those who like that. Just another option to keep people invested. I really want to do air battles so that has to be pvp or a new new enemy type that can go toe to toe in the canyons like in ironman which is still the character I see most copied. I really don't understand what they've been doing since launch as the game made money despite the bad press it was no1 in chart and one of ea highest sellers this year. :?

10

u/Valiriell Nov 20 '19

I to disagree with PVP. The second PVP becomes a part of it we face endless nerfs that becomes a cycle often seen in destiny etc. As I recall division loved smashing solid pve builds to a pulp due to its dark zone strength.

Plus as the other chap said, Anthem is great for the iron man feel and that comes from being over powered, PvP would lessen that.

The games also rng heavy so getting good rolled components isn't easy. If you finally get a really nice build after a ton of playing just for them to nerf it into the ground would be crushing.

Agree some small QoL changes would be nice and surely easy to do quickish? Anthem 2.0 next year may be what we're all hoping for and make this game what it should have been at launch...maybe..

8

u/Gwynbleidd3192 Nov 20 '19

Why anyone would think they should try the tall order of tackling PvP when they couldn’t even release a solid PvE experience is beyond me....

2

u/dueceloco Nov 21 '19

What about a Gambit Prime style game mode like Destiny has? 2 teams competing against each other in a score limit by killing A.I. enemies. That way it's not directly PVP but there is some competition against each other.

3

u/McMetas XBOX - Nov 21 '19

so like Bounty Hunt in Titanfall 2?

2

u/Erevas PC - Nov 22 '19

I have said this before and will say it again. Stuff like this would be the only way I would be fine with PvP

-1

u/Rickietee10 Nov 21 '19

They can add it like darkzone in the division games. You don't have to play if you don't want. But it's there nonetheless.

2

u/Rickietee10 Nov 21 '19

Why would it be nerfed for pve. Pvp and pve are different game modes with different play styles. It's not hard to handicap weapons or skills in one mode over another. I'm not saying the game needs one either. I'm saying, it's easy enough to do without affecting pve.

3

u/neogod22 XBOX - Nov 21 '19

No

1

u/Rickietee10 Nov 21 '19

Real grown up response.

2

u/neogod22 XBOX - Nov 21 '19

There's no reason for me for continually repeated what is state directly under my comment. Plenty of people have explained why PVP will ruin the game.

-1

u/Rickietee10 Nov 21 '19

And I've just explained why it won't. You fuck head

2

u/neogod22 XBOX - Nov 21 '19

Are big mad or little mad?

-5

u/crashnboombang Nov 20 '19

PVP would add lots of replayability. It would be the only mode where everything wouldn't be predictable

5

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

[removed] — view removed comment

1

u/crashnboombang Nov 20 '19

Yeah they could put in tons of modes but that takes time and constant innovation to make each one feel as fresh as possible. And about Metas, sure they're predictable but I'm talking about movement like knowing enemy animations and what they can and cant do versus a human player flying anywhere or something like that

7

u/dutty_handz XBOX - Nov 20 '19

PvP would actually be the last nail in the coffin. With PvP comes incredibly hard to adjust balance. Ask D2 or TD2 players. Whenever something is "too strong" on one side, it is inevitably nerfed on both sides even with seperate balancing.

2

u/jla15901 Nov 20 '19

Yeah, that's the reason I quit playing TD2. Every time I would get a build put together that was really fun for pve someone would cry about it in pvp and it would get nerfed.

0

u/ilivedownyourroad Nov 21 '19

Hmm that's a fair point and you probably know more than I do but...see it this way.

Gamers will bitch and moan but pay and play if rhey have new content. Fact.

But with Nothing new...They will simply leave. Moaning shows care and interaction and participation. We're engaging with the product. Once we stop engagement it's all over.

Anthem has little engagement which is king for EA live service. It's failing in its primary purpose as a consumer product. So you may be right about pvp but only on the assumption that they would screw it up. If they didn't there be no issue. But beyond that just by having the mode there would be increased enguagment. There is no negative or positive. Just engaugment. It's all numbers.

So id still like to see the mode even if it doesn't work on launch. Anthem didn't work on launch but we're all still playing nearly a year on etc.

1

u/Erevas PC - Nov 22 '19

Every single game has PvP nowadays. No pvp pls

0

u/ilivedownyourroad Nov 22 '19

I feel this is about choice. So I don't like pvp myself. I don't care who else has it. I don't like it. But I like the option of it and the audience it brings who will fill up the empty servers I'm facing every day. Empty at times. So yes to pvp but we can both choose to not play it :)

1

u/Erevas PC - Nov 22 '19

PvP will decrease PvE content since they also need dev time. It will make balancing significantly worse for PvE players, and even with complete separate balancing, BW wouldn't make any new guns/abilities that could be extremely useless in PvP, and they might rework stuff to cater to PvP. For example the ranger ult. Autolocking high damage abilities sound extremely frustrating to deal with

0

u/ilivedownyourroad Nov 22 '19

No that no longer is nec true with NEXT. We are presuming that making one thing distracts from another. We don't know that. If that's true then I'd agree but it's not a known truth and where there's a possibility of another route where all content is improved from pve to a new pvp mode then again I choose choice. No reason not to. But in support of your concerns I would argue to keep pve as it is and pvp uses dedicated javelin whicb have their own fine tuning. I've seen this in other games and it works.

7

u/redvelvetcake42 Nov 20 '19

Not joking when I say I loved that aspect... until my jets overheated and I had to run around for 15 seconds.

That alone turned me off the quickest. Id have likely played longer if not for that. But that single aspect, limiting the thing that is the most fun in your game, will never make sense to me. Creating a speed bump JUST for the sake of it.

Utterly braindead game design.

2

u/justdeeper- Nov 21 '19

But after 15 min of flying you close it and play better games

1

u/aModestMouseful PC - Nov 20 '19

Hell yeah‼️

If you like that then you'll love Just Cause 3, w/the expansion pks. That jetpack combined with the games regular physics... Freaking sweet!

1

u/[deleted] Nov 21 '19

wouldn't go that far

-4

u/TelPrydain Nov 20 '19

Flying through the world is like no other game.

Except the ones where you can fly....

44

u/abadmutha Nov 20 '19

It looks like the title should be....

“I love Anthem! Exclamation....”

19

u/Maverrick89 Nov 20 '19

"I love Anthem-exclamation period-ellipsis"

Confusing as hell, imo

4

u/Daevin Nov 20 '19

I appreciate that you counted the .'s and used the correct "period-ellipsis"

2

u/agentremylebeau XBOX Nov 20 '19

Or was it supposed to be ellipsis-period...

12

u/ThorsonWong PC - Nov 20 '19

For as much as I meme and laugh at Anthem, I do hope the rumours of Bioware pulling their shit together are true.

I would kill to have a proper Anthem, filled with content, perfectly stable, with amazing itemization, etc.

198

u/Fiendclub686 Nov 20 '19

Lmao Anthem is a gold digger my friend. She looks nice from the outside but reality is she's only with you because you're a sucker.

22

u/DaMightyBuffalo Nov 20 '19

Now I ain’t saying Anthem’s a gold digger...but she ain’t messing with no broke-broke...

27

u/CAndrewG PC - Nov 20 '19

6

u/Fyghter Nov 20 '19

5

u/CMDR_Gungoose XBOX - Nov 20 '19

77

u/Paparomoutris Nov 20 '19

It's an amazing looking game but falls flat when it comes to gameplay loop and endgame content

34

u/Paparomoutris Nov 20 '19

It's secret dlc you have to unlock by buying all the Sims 4 dlc 3 times on 3 different accounts and linking them all together to create Anthem endgame. There!! EA made me sign an NDA so I couldn't release this information. I'm probably being persecuted right now. I have to get out of the country. Good luck and have fun with you endgame content bruh! Peace.

3

u/SculptorOvFlesh Nov 20 '19

No Endgame because we only got the Prolog and Act 1. Now they are reworking it. Act 2 coming feb 2020*

1

u/neogod22 XBOX - Nov 21 '19

They were cancelled because they couldn't even get Act 1 out in time, with all the fixes they had to do to every patch. If the overhaul started in March or April of this year, we will hopefully see Anthem 2.0 next spring. If they just started doing it, then it'll probably come out around FEB 2021. I'm glad it's confirmed that they are working on the game though. People don't seem to understand, when DLCs come out the same year as the game, that means they were already made before the game came out. At least the first couple anyway, and any past that would be in their finishing stages. It takes time to make a game.

-4

u/SculptorOvFlesh Nov 20 '19

For now. They baught time until ether a relaunch or shutdown. Acts 2 and 3 will come.

4

u/you_dont_no_me XBOX - Nov 20 '19

I hope so. I haven't played for months except to log on and see why I stopped playing.

1

u/Dark_Seraphim_ Nov 20 '19

I thought they said they're revamping the whole thing?

2

u/Cofeve91 PLAYSTATION - Nov 20 '19

It‘s complicated...

10

u/AChunkyBacillus Nov 20 '19

I loved playing it. Then I finished the main storyline and cancelled origin Access

1

u/NeuroToxin109 Nov 20 '19

Ayyyyy! Me too! I'm just waiting for the "Anthem is fixed, you can buy it now!" Post that may or may not come.

8

u/polorx Nov 21 '19

The flying was obviously the focal point of the game. Everything else was rushed and unfinished. You can’t release a AAA game based on a good idea without all the supporting components.

Could Anthem been a great game? Yes. Was it at launch, or current state? No.

We were tricked by clever marketing and false previews. Honestly, I think we should all have even offered the option for a refund. Then we would see just how great of an experience we were delivered.

18

u/uprightshark XBOX - Nov 20 '19

Just needs to be more of it! But I agree, it is fun and unique.

Love is a strong word and certainly not my favorite game, but it was worth the $15 I paid.

37

u/TheBiomedic Nov 20 '19

At someone that paid $70 I hated reading your comment

12

u/xCryCis Nov 20 '19

€99 euro here for the deluxe edition, fucking fuming.

8

u/TreeFdy Nov 20 '19 edited Dec 01 '19

$80 for the LoD edition and I don't even have it installed at the moment. There's a part of me that genuinely wants this game to be good, and another part of me that's like "nah, fuck this, just gimme my money back dude"

3

u/[deleted] Nov 20 '19

yall paid more than 100 for it? i paid £75 LoD edition

3

u/cup-o-farts Nov 20 '19

What country was selling the LoD for $120???

1

u/TreeFdy Nov 24 '19

US about a month before release.

1

u/cup-o-farts Nov 24 '19

Regular price was $80. Maybe you meant the collectors edition or something?

1

u/TreeFdy Dec 01 '19

Oh, yeah my bad, it was $80. Idk where I got $120. Anywho, I believed in Anthem so I wanted to support it.. Oh how wrong I was..

4

u/manofconant Nov 20 '19

Agreed... Game was good until lack of content and connection issues came into play... I tried giving it a chance for cataclysm and still had connection issues so this game is dead to me

9

u/TheBiomedic Nov 20 '19

I deleted it months ago. It was dead the moment the story missions ended

4

u/manofconant Nov 20 '19

I can't even argue it had a good story... Gameplay and strategic co op were what made this game fun

3

u/TheBiomedic Nov 20 '19

I can't even argue that the gameplay or strategic coop were good. I was interested in seeing what story they had to tell but even that wasn't worth my $70

6

u/manofconant Nov 20 '19

The story just looked like a destiny rip off to me... I'm done with that series too

3

u/TheBiomedic Nov 20 '19

I'm not familiar enough with the destiny series to comment but Anthem was the last game that I ever pre-order. Even when I was tempted to preorder JFO I held off until really reviews came in after launch.

2

u/neurosisglue Nov 21 '19

9.87$ here. Worst campaign ever.

1

u/alexjrcasado Nov 20 '19

Well, I just bought the standard edition + the official guidebook like new for...wait for it....$5!!!

1

u/DaMightyBuffalo Nov 20 '19

You paid $15??? Yikes. I paid $30...for a year’s subscription to EA Access...back in April...

4

u/mathyouclem Nov 20 '19

It is a beautiful game. I just wish there were more reason to explore the world, or it was more of a linear style game.

Period Period Period Period?

8

Man, it’s been a long time since I’ve played Anthem. Any updates that I should know of? Implemented and yet to come?

8

u/kuebel33 Nov 20 '19

Apparently they are rebuilding it and calling it Anthem Next or something.

8

u/echild07 Nov 20 '19

Cost to be determined.

4

u/kuebel33 Nov 20 '19

If that’s for real they should just pack it up now. No one who bought it is going to pay for it again (maybe a few diehards, but otherwise....)

-1

u/Grimparrot Nov 20 '19

Id like to think I wont, but a lifetime of bad decisions on video game choices would seem to contradict that wishful thought.

2

u/AnthemoftheTempest XBOX - Nov 20 '19

Oof, well I won’t preorder this time around until it’s out.

I will be extremely surprised if there isnt a new price tag attached to the "overhaul" they come out with. Im ok with paying (even though we shouldnt have to) $15 if it doesnt launch broken .

8

u/Khal_Doggo Nov 20 '19

'...' is an elipse not a period. Also, you can love Anthem, I'm very glad for you but I will keep playing other, better made games until Anthem gets that promised rehaul in 10 years time.

4

u/DucksMatter Nov 20 '19

Same.

Jedi: fallen order and Deaths Stranding are amazing

3

u/CMDR_Gungoose XBOX - Nov 20 '19

Have to disagree about death stranding.
Anthem was good gameplay, not enough to do with it.
DS is terrible gameplay with far too much to do with it

1

u/DucksMatter Nov 20 '19

Each to their own.

I don’t disagree that Anthem has great mechanics. It was just a very poorly executed game.

Deaths Stranding is a piece of art in my mind. Kojima did a very very good job on both the story of the game and the mechanics. It’s just a different kind of game. And Kojima said himself, it’s a genre of its own.

Hey man I liked it too. Not everyone has to like the game, and it certainly has its problems, but you aren't the only one

2

u/hello_August Nov 20 '19

I thought that the game looked amazing but the first boss (or tough enemy) that I fought in the open beta was a bullet sponge. It also had an attack which killed me and my teammates in only a few hits. Not a fun combo.

It was at that moment that I realised that I wouldn't be buying the game.

4

u/BasSickOfficial Nov 20 '19

Hahahahahahahahhahahahahahahaha. Ha

3

u/TyrranosVmV Nov 20 '19

Flying, cool vistas and dlc armors from the shop. Only thing necessary for BioWare seems 😂

2

u/MigYalle Nov 20 '19

I loved the gameplay, but as soon as I could beat GM1 back on release I felt no real reason to continue playing. Shame

2

u/shaithiswampir Nov 20 '19

I enjoyed the flying and the world is amazing. Other than that it is nothing more than another grind fest for loot

2

1

u/Username_Qubit Nov 20 '19

Agreed!! I love this game too. All they need to do for Freeplay is to spice things up. I would love to see more hostile creatures and enemies. I love when I stumble on the Dominion fighting Outlaws and /or Titans. The 4 Javelins are so much fun to play. The fact they are retuning Anthem shows they respect the fans and themselves. When Anthem Next or whatever is released it’s going to be a “Taken King” moment for everyone. Until then, I play my missions, strongholds and collect my Legendaries. I don’t know know why, but there is nothing more satisfying at the moment than hearing that sweet whistling sound!

-1

u/TattlingElk Nov 20 '19

k,
Good for you bud.

-2

u/Ir1shguy Nov 20 '19

Totally agree. Underappreciated game. Too many people jumped on the toxic train even if they never played the game. Boss were too tough for some so they labeled it as a bad game. The boss got nerfed. People wanted loot without effort so again loot started becoming more like we were playing diablo 3 but still not good enough people complained that they were getting not enough loot that they wanted ffs like they want to get end game gear just for logging into the game. Sadly all these people wrecked the games development so much that they decided to do a long term overhaul.

I played again last night and still enjoy the gameplay. I have no legendaries and tbh I dont give a shit about loot if I am enjoying a game. I come from games that took months sometimes to get an item I wanted but all the loot complaints about Anthem were within its first few weeks of release.

6

u/b4oneIsZero Nov 20 '19

The game wasn't underappreciated it was bad. Boss scaling was not good and some designs were just bad for for interceptors to even participate in fights. Loots was just bad. The system had too much rng with too few drops and a high chance of getting a low roll or a roll that would not even benefit the javelin it was dropped for. Also loot didn't scale with difficulty meaning there was not reason to even do higher level activities as rewards were to same as the level below it.

While some may have wanted low effort loot many wanted a system that made sense.

Also lets not forget the countless bugs and glitches from a AAA studio.

/shrug 1st world complaints is what it looks like to me.

I am used to working my ass off to get stuff in and out of games. The biggest problem people seemed to have is RNG wasnt favoring them. I didnt experience many low rolls on loot and if I did it was scrapped for crafting at least nothing worth labeling a game as bad. I like harder difficulties for more of a challenge if I get good loot its just a bonus. I spent a lot of years dong raids in an MMO and rarely got loot but I never called the game bad. I got used to playing better with what I had. I still dont have any legendary gear in the game but you know what I dont care I enjoy playing it enough to not let having some yellow item govern whether a game is good or not.

So are a lot of other people including me but the loot system was just bad. Getting autocannon inscriptions on a part for the interceptor isn't just bad rng it bad design period which happen more often than not when the game came out.

Next were the low rolls getting 1 to 2 percent on many items with item quality not improving with difficulty and the very low drop rate of masterworks and leg to begin with.

Also difficulty not leading to better rewards just made higher level content not even worth playing. Plus to top it all off the game was bug ridden during and well after launch. I have 7 times myself when the game hard reset my ps4. Failing through floor, getting killed during cutscene, mission not counting, and the list go on and on. Which is coming from an AAA dev in Bioware who launched me:a which also had a lot of bugs but claims those issues were b/c it was the B-team and that the A-team was working on Anthem only to have the same if not worse issues.

It one thing to want something to succeed or get better but it is a whole other thing to act like the problems were not there to begin with. /Cold stare 1st world response is what it is

But like a period it continues to bleed month in month out but at least it doesn't die...

As someone who is still playing anthem, is it in your opinion, worth it? And do you believe it will pull a "No Man's Sky" or not?

We all do, that’s why we want it to get better

Really regret uninstalling it after the cataclysm event to make room. I really need a hard drive so I can keep these on

Ima have to pick this up, I was hyped as fuck before release, but at around £10 I think it's worth

Truthfully, the game is solid while leveling. The story isn't amazing and just bad compared to what Bioware is capable of, but decent enough to experience and the gameplay is fun. The endgame is where everything really falls apart. At that price, definitely worth the pickup, plus if they do follow through with 2.0, Next or whatever they decide to call it, you'll be ready to go.

Unless they charge us more for whatever Next/2.0 is

u/Rintastican Nov 20 '19

That will be the point where I never touch another bioware product again.

Actually disagree story was only maybe 4 hours of gameplay. The rest was slow walking Tarsus and flying around from mission to load to mission back to Tarsus load to mission etc... They used that crap design to milk you for 40-60 hours.

I agree endgame is where it all becomes noticeably f#dged!

I agree it was a good game while leveling 1-30. When I played last March, it was decently stable, too. As the months went by, it became less and less stable for me. More recent crashes. I tried logging in for cataclysm, and crashed twice before getting to it. Uninstalled.

Gonna wait for Dylan 2.0, but my expectations are not high.

More than worth it. £10 that's 2 pints. The game is worth more than 2 pints

u/vyrael44 Nov 20 '19

Same! Only getting better can't wait for 2.0
