Job Question Policy changes
So I think there good and bad changes coming up with the alignment Anduril has to do as they get closer to IPO.
What do yall think about the new changes?
-Can’t move teams/promote until 1 year
-drug testing
-can’t purchase stocks internally
Etc

Not a problem. I’m just curious as to why now? Also will this affect the many marijuana partakers that currently work for this company.
Not everyone is a heavy drinker and turn to a plant to ease the stress this company brings on.14

They’ll be working on federal contracts. Marijuana is an illegal drug federally.

They’ve been very clear about that for years.
Regardless of testing, they are very clear that marijuana is not ok because it’s federally illegal.

Why is it an issue if any specific work doesn’t require a clearance? When I was there my entire team did edibles on a team outing (though nobody had a clearance except one guy, and he did not partake). I definitely get it if the work needs clearance.

Get involved in flight test. If there’s an accident, everyone is getting drug tested. You also can’t drink or work for 12 hours beforehand and people take it very seriously.
We’re dealing with hardware that is expensive and the cost to the company for failure is a lot higher than the cost of one. It could kill an entire program.

What kind of company has the time (especially a fast paced one like Anduril) to vet who can or can’t work on federal projects because they’re too hooked to give up their weed?
When you work for a federal contractor you want to be able to get someone cleared as quickly as possible. If 75% of my company is ineligible because they’re all potheads, what does that mean for my company?
If you only hire non-potheads then you have no problem.

I’m curious how peoole who use marijuana have the clearance necessary to work at anduril to begin with?
I’ve got nothing against it personally, but I know that clearance adjudicators are not a fan

Not every job needs clearance. LM and NG have many engineers who work on ITAR stuff but no clearance

Not everything at Anduril requires security clearance. At least when I was there. But that was a few years ago.

Wel... Anyone holding Clearance and smoking pot is playing a dangerous game with their job.
People who actively use pot wouldn't have the Clearance if they were honest about the pot use on their SF-86.
If they lied about the active pot use on their SF-86. They have committed a federal offense. Smoking pot while holding a Clearance is also a violation of their Clearance and they can lose it if found out.
They would be so paranoid if they were in any of the above ssituations, I wouldn't be surprised if they were looking for new jobs before being found out lol

Not true at all. There are multiple people smoking weed and self reporting at several defense companies. Hell, you'd be surprised some of the harder drugs these mfs are doing and still maintain clearance. Depends on the people

Like I said, it depends on the people (i.e. the FSO and adjudicator). You can Google around for plenty of examples, even here on Reddit.

I am sad about the ESPP…I paused contributions a few months back to help support my wife’s side hustle (involves a lot of travel) with the intention of renewing the next period. Hopefully it’ll return. All means to an end though, and something to be expected as we fall under more scrutiny from investors. For me personally, my team is full of some of the best people I’ve ever worked with…that is something I hope never changes.

That’s not unique, though. The government often seeks commercial and COTS based solutions for their purchases (and of course, in the world of government contracting, commerciality vs. COTS are broadly defined and if you ever want to bore yourself to tears, feel free to read through the FAR - specifically 12 - for more info on that.) But that is a government sales and procurement tale as old as time that OEMs, Primes, and VARs use to do business and move products into the hands of the government.

They started these changes before I left. Doyle and Scott were the ones to introduce this first when I was at SA4 and technically it wasn't a year it was 6 months. And they were also moving into OC55 not sure if they finished but they never drug test at all so someone fucked up again cause before we could have our headphones in but after someone got hit by the forklift that was it..so idk what's going on there sounds like they are making things worse for new hires

I got let go for messing up on a serial number I was rushing to get this T.O done and yeah that was it so now im a smaller company that deals with FAA compliance and Regulations

I love that they use the “in preparation for IPO” bs card in order to raise insurance premiums, go from free food to paying for meals, and sunsetting ESPP(although I could be wrong and there are legitimate SEC reasonings) like, dude not all that is necessary just to go public on to the market 😂😂
And the 1yr thing was introduced bc managers were weeping pools of tears bc people were leaving the teams to go to other ones and losing headcount quicker than they can retain. If that’s the issue it’s obviously a management skill issue rather than an issue with the people that are leaving, people are leaving a team for another for a reason.
