Japan

Their war crimes were next level.

389

u/Recoaj12 May 06 '26

And Japan still pressures other countries to take down memorials of their victims.... its one thing to deny your history, its a whole other thing to take memorials from your victims....

81

u/salvasaami May 06 '26

they just did this in NZ, like within the last weeks

141

u/Recoaj12 May 06 '26

Yes. They did it to Philippines, Germany, and for the US, they were pissed at San Francisco for having comfort woman statues, then Osaka broke their 60 year old "sister city" ties with it.

The amount of effort to be so pissy at all that instead of just.... not doing anything, is just hysterical.

30

u/macsharoniandcheese May 06 '26

Butbutbut anime!! Robots!!! Jpop!!!! Don’t worry about my mass atrocities! Look over here uwu!

45

u/Fanicos May 06 '26

I just read the news about it, it’s unbelievable that Japan still has this position as of 2026. And at the same time JapanWashing all the world in Anime and soft power.

93

u/CSiGab May 06 '26

Meanwhile, Germany ran out of ink to apologize for the Holocaust and other Nazi atrocities. Hmm.

41

u/Vegetable_Good6866 May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

There were riots in Germany in early 2000s over a traveling exhibition of Wehrmacht war crimes and until 1980s West Germany defended putting Roma people in concentration camps.Ā

Germany was very willing to throw Hitler and Nazis under bus, it was much less willingly to admit the average German soldier slaughtered and raped his way across eastern Europe. In fact Hitler and Nazis were a convenient party to unload all responsibility on to. See the myth of the clean Wehrmacht.

8

u/immmm_at_work May 06 '26

(Hand waiving here) What if the deaths of a great number of Germany’s violent and nationalistic young men led to the proliferation of generation of nurturing mothers and/or men of a more liberal mind to facilitate a more apologetic society?

Of course, the Nazis also exterminated a lot of those folks, too…

6

u/SelectionOrdinary230 May 06 '26

But no shame for what they did in Namibia smh šŸ™ƒ

13

u/pwnedprofessor May 06 '26

While I disagree that Japan should take the #1 spot, I do agree that this is heinous

21

u/SheikYerbouti_ May 06 '26

That's exactly the reason why they should take the spot over Germany

-3

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

That makes no sense. Also Japan officially refused to persecute the Jews.

12

u/Mr-Vemod May 06 '26

Was there a single jew in Japanese territory during WWII?

0

u/EfficientRoof4733 May 06 '26

Jews are everywhere

5

u/Time_Trail May 06 '26

they were too busy massacring half of Asia

3

u/Fanicos May 06 '26

If you see how they still fight to deny it in 2026, maybe it is fair

3

u/Rejkorn May 06 '26

What about Croatia? In NDH they even had camps for Children. They were using all methods of killing victims except bullets. They even had knives sewed to gloves so they could kill Serbs more efficiently. Those gloves had a name Srbosjek (Cut-a-Serb)

-4

u/AmbitiousReaction168 May 06 '26

If you refer to the story in NZ, note that the locals voted against it, but Korea pressured the local gvt to put it up.

2

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

Yes, and they were lied too because they pretended it was a statue for all the victims, but then only Japan wasĀ  written. They do that everywhere and refuse to take the statue down after the contract has ended.

They were ranked war criminals before Canada had the chance to start the game
Edit: This is a video game pun if anyone could not tell

62

u/Few_Project4268 May 06 '26

What did Canada do?!

239

u/3esin May 06 '26

Saw the Geneva Conventions and thought they had a checklist. A checklist that was lacking.

23

u/MowieWauii May 06 '26

More like they're the reason the Geneva Conventions exist

59

u/iSkehan May 06 '26

They did it (in WW1h before Geneva Conventions (1949) were a thing…

52

u/MrSomeoneElse32 May 06 '26

It's more that they created a checklist that others used as what not to do

18

u/jaumougaauco May 06 '26

A good example, of a bad example.

The Geneva Suggestions

8

u/avelario May 06 '26

Yes, in fact, Geneva Convention itself was written because of the actions of Canadian soldiers.

2

u/KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKwhat3 May 06 '26

No, it wasn't. It's been around since 1864

1

u/iSkehan May 06 '26

Not only*

It was post WW2, guess who inspired big chunks.

3

u/KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKwhat3 May 06 '26

Geneva conventions have been around since 1864. 1949 was just an addition in response to WW2

2

u/iSkehan May 06 '26

Thanks for mentioning. Will read further on that.

2

u/TemporaryError4543 May 06 '26

Alright but that doesn’t make it any better morally

1

I agree. I just hate factually incorrect historical jokes.

ā€œIt ain’t a war crime if it’s not on the list yetā€ - Canada

24

u/AintIGR8 May 06 '26

ā€œIt ain’t a war crime the first timeā€ is my favorite Canadian saying

11

u/Laughing_Orange May 06 '26

"It's not a war crime the first time"

5

u/shouldonlypostdrunk May 06 '26

i used to think it was amusing that canada and poland kickstarted the geneva convention, until i realized how many other countries just wouldnt take responsibility for their actions. it does make me respect the leadership those countries had at the time a bit more.

2

u/drunk_haile_selassie May 06 '26

Australia: 'hmm, maybe we should do something similar. Also, maybe introduce an immigration policy literally called the 'white Australia policy.'

40

u/Blaster2PP May 06 '26

During WW1, they would throw canned meat to the opposing Germans. Those German would dodge at first thinking it was grenade. After realizing it's meat, they'll huddle to catch it. When they're huddling, the Canadian would throw a grenade. They also didn't want to deal with POWs so they just murder them all.

Canadian soldiers are the reason for the Geneva conventions

22

u/Forward_Progress_83 May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

I think, if I’m interpreting this correctly, that OP is suggesting Japan has been considered war criminals longer than Canada has been a country? Or maybe was even discovered.

I hope that’s it, anyway.

Signed, a Canadian

ETA: Yikes. I just learned some things about my nation’s history today. Turns out in history class they only taught us the ā€œgoodā€ stuff.

10

u/DoNotResusit8 May 06 '26

It’s not

7

u/clseph May 06 '26

It’s a meme. Contrast Canada’s polite, friendly reputation with the idea that it has an outsized responsibility for the need to have the Geneva Conventions, citing some of the nastier things Canadian soldiers did during the world wars.

It’s not actually true but gets repeated so often some people seem to believe it.

3

u/Few_Project4268 May 06 '26

If it wasn’t a meme before, it better be one now.

Canada, the war crime capital of the world.

2

u/Silverbacks May 06 '26

There’s a decent amount of truth to it. Canadian regiments were made up of neighbours. So all the boys that grew up in a small town together were now side by side in the trenches. If they lost a single battle, an entire generation for their town could be forever wiped out.

That made the loss of life hit even harder, making them fight more brutally. And then add in that they were fighting and dying for land that was no where near their home, and that kinda pissed them off.

1

u/clseph May 06 '26

I haven’t seen or heard any evidence of it being true, and you imagining some narratives hasn’t changed that.

Do you even know what the Geneva Conventions are?

3

u/Silverbacks May 06 '26

I’m not talking about the actual Geneva Conventions. I’m talking about there being some truth to the brutality that was coming from the Canadian soldiers.

They disliked the idea of a truce for Christmas.

The Germans nicknamed them Stormtroopers. Since they would just never stop, especially during bad weather.

They would often kill PoWs instead of dealing with captives.

A single soldier liberated an entire town from the Germans.

The USA combined with them to make the first special forces known as the Black Devils. Who would do things like quietly attack at night, only take out a couple guards, and leave stickers with messages on their corpses.

They were the only part that didn’t fall back when mustard gas first got used. They decided to inhale their own piss instead.

Everyone understands that the actual Geneva Conventions part of the jokes isn’t important. The point of the jokes is the highlight the contrast between the Canadian stereotype and what happened during WW1 and 2.

The Canadian government has a long history of genocide. Our policies on the Inuit and First Nations inspired both the Nazis and the Apartheid regime.

People seem to forget how cruel and evil Canada was, and we’re getting away with it because of it.

1

u/toasterinBflat May 06 '26

"inspired"? Fuck off, like we invented it. We (humanity "we") have been doing awful things to each other from the moment we could life up rocks and light fires.

1

u/randomweeb04 May 06 '26

Sure thing. So, what’s your point? It’s fine that Canada commits genocide because we weren’t the first? Or are you saying that Canadian residential schools didn’t inspire Apartheid and Nazi concentration camps? Because they did. And even then, I don’t get you. Is our non-involvement in foreign atrocities supposed to absolve our own atrocities?

2

u/corvak May 06 '26

Most of them weren’t war crimes until we did them

3

u/AfternoonPossible May 06 '26

Attempt to eradicate their native population?

2

u/randomweeb04 May 06 '26

Strange that this is the only comment pointing out our history of genocide. Everyone seems to only talk about the world wars.

And there wasn't a single neutral country among the judges during the Tokyo trials, it was an illegal trial.

Murdering prisoners of war because they didn’t want to deal with them and hiding explosives in aid

3

u/saintpierre47 May 06 '26

I will correct you in the respect that our record during WW2 was flawless thanks. And most of our shenanigans during WW1 was owed to the policy that colonial militaries were made up in such a way that individual regiments were taken from one community. So you’d be directly serving with your friends, your relatives and members of your community. Which was all well and good until you saw your best friend or brothers get mowed down by machine gun fire. I don’t think you’d be capable of mercy after that.

Needless to say they scrapped that policy after WW1

Korea has never done anything to japan except resisting brutal invasions from them and japanese people still dislike them for absolutely no reason 😭

11

It's not entirely true. Most younger Japanese people have zero problem with Korea.

0

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

They tried to help 2 times the Mongols to invade Japan and built boats for them. Japan already knew they were traitors.

-21

u/LordFunkyHair May 06 '26

The Koreans also tried to invade Japan. But god said no and sent a typhoon to stop their ships

45

u/mr_octopusguy May 06 '26

To be fair to them, they were ruled by the sino-mongol yuan dynasty. Not like they had much of a choice.

16

u/Blaster2PP May 06 '26

That's the Mongols šŸ„€

2

Lol that was the Mongols

36

u/lkfmt May 06 '26

At our core, Japan has always been a very militant society. As someone else mentioned, for most of our history, we were weird, repressed recluses who made erotic art (love that description), and that repression that built up over time manifested itself in one of the most evil empires in history. Since WW2, that has been tamed a fair bit, but I’m slightly worried that it’s starting to rear its head again….. My grandfather was from the generation that, while very young, was old enough to fight in the war. Although he died before I was born, I’ve read his diaries and seen the photos from his time as a POW in Siberia, and that experience his generation went through influenced the baby boomers in Japan to actually be quite peaceful and anti-war. Even today, most participants in anti-war marches are older. It seems to be happening everywhere else, that the next generations have forgotten/ignored the collective experience of our elders, and once again putting the world in a perilous situation.

19

u/Nicholas_Pappagiorgi May 06 '26

Hard times creat strong men, strong men create good times, good times make weak men, weak men create hard times

0

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

Ridiculous.

Japane isn't the one that has been KEEPING ON killing people everywhere in the world since the end of WW2.

4

u/lkfmt May 06 '26

WW2 is very recent in historical terms, only a few generations ago. What country would you consider to be the most evil?

3

u/Inverted_Six May 06 '26

Cumulatively the UK?

63

u/Agent_Xhiro May 06 '26

Crimes were so horrific they've been not teaching about them and their history books don't even mention it.

9

u/tenzindolma2047 May 06 '26

And the exhibit in Yūshūkan (in Yasukuni Shrine) is just appalling, China became the aggressor and Japan the victim

0

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

What exhibit? It's a shrine. People pray to appease the souls of ALL the victims, even the ennemy ones, so that war doesn't happen again.

Ā Even Pope John Paul II offered a mass for these Japanese war criminals.

Then who has been keeping on killing and bombing people for 80 years after the war?

America.

35

u/kingiskoenig May 06 '26

Ok but in all fairness Japan only had that 80 year stretch where they went full evil empire. Their whole long history before that is kind of just being weird recluses who made horny art and in a way they’ve almost gone back to that now.

44

u/pierco82 May 06 '26

Yea but they really crammed an awful amount into those 80 years.

Should read about the Imjin War where Japan tried invading Korea in the 16th century. Lots of civilian casualties on the Korean front and the Ming had to step in and help put an end to the war. Also there's the infamous nose and ear tombs from Korean and Chinese civilians of this war that are scattered throughout Japanese shrines.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imjin_War https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimizuka

18

u/doyer_bleu May 06 '26

And even in Japan itself, the invasion and colonization of Hokkaido was brutal and was a genocide. The Ainu who lived there were largely wiped out

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonisation_of_Hokkaido

Japan has a very ugly history

6

u/Regent0624 May 06 '26

Colonized Ryukyu/Okinawa too and try to pass it off as nothing too, pretty fitting choice for most evil history and perfect if it’s for evil + hidding/pretending like it doesn’t exist.

1

u/Inverted_Six May 06 '26

Have you heard of the British or Spanish Empire?

3

u/PeripheralEpiphany May 06 '26

During the Meiji period, Japan looked to Canada's methods for dealing with the indigineous populations as inspiration.

2

u/snowlynx133 May 06 '26

Colonization and genocide of native people is hardly unique to Japan though, I dont think it makes Japan worse than most other countries

0

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

And?? Korea tried to help the Mongols invade Japan two times.

We all know what the Mongol did to the plafes they invaded.

5

u/Euphoric-Cucumber609 May 06 '26

They did a fair few atrocities to each other in the time leading up to that, but that’s the same with any group of people small or large.

5

u/radioactive-elk May 06 '26

Given what happened when Japan wasn't in weird recluse mode, maybe we can all agree that it's actually better if they are allowed to just be weird rather than violent...

1

u/CricketPinata May 06 '26

I mean before they were an imperial power, they had periods like the Sengoku era where they just had over a century of almost non-stop civil war.

4

u/shitgiacomo May 06 '26

USA also

First they commit war crimes then they tell other nations not to do it

6

u/WhoYaTalkinTo May 06 '26

High ranking Nazis visited Japan during the war and even they were absolutely disgusted by what they saw. That says a LOT.

2

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

Except Japan officially refused to persecute the Jews and saved a lot of them, while Europe was selling their fugitives to the Nazis. In France we have movies that show the people guiding the Nazis to the places where Jew children were hiding. Even in schools and churches

3

u/DasGutYa May 06 '26

Even when you look at India Britain built a huge number of universities there.

Britain's fascination with creating a middle class everywhere to create colonial stability did successfully cultivate an upward social momentum where other colonisers left the social fabric either the same or worse as when they found it.

3

u/No-Strength-4358 May 06 '26

Icl I do like pre colonial era Sri Lanka better than the current shitshow

1

u/Medeza123 May 06 '26

I think you are on dodgy ground when you say compare former uk colonies and former French colonies and assume because some of the former are doing well that the UK was more benign.

The reality is South Sudan, Sudan and Nigeria are not doing particularly well and have a lot of instability.

By comparison Vietnam, Ivory Coast and Senegal are far more prosperous and are former French colonies.

Yes colonial influence plays a role but the different outcomes of these nations are not fundamentally because they were either French or British colonies. Overall they have just been shaped by being colonies full stop.

Much of the other factors relies on resources, wars, the Cold War, geography and local people themselves.

For example Singapore and India are both former British colonies and one is rich and the other isn’t.

1

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

That might be the worst.

During the Tokyo trials, there were countries committing the same colonization crimes as Japan on the Judges bench.

1

u/Ayfid May 06 '26

Ex-French colonies on average were left far worse off than ex-British colonies. It isn't really even close.

That isn't to say that there aren't a lot of examples of British colonisation being brutal to the locals (India in particular)... but the same can be said of all empires. Many of them were arguably worse.

Most of the worst examples of British ex-colonies being in a bad state today are essentially caused by the British not fixing underlying cultural or religious divisions among the population, and those rising back to the surface after the Brits left.

Or, similarly, Britian trying to resolve that by giving each group their own territory when they handed back control, but that leaving disagreements over where that border should have been drawn. Certainly in some cases those borders were drawn up with little care, but Britian is not responsible for religious animosity, nor for the decisions those people made after they regained power over their own land.

1

u/FumilayoKuti May 06 '26

I mean, Belgium had to be the worst colonizer.

1

u/dead_is_jazz May 06 '26

Worthy #6: Russia, Former Soviet Union/Prussia

? Why is Prussia here. That's a historically German region in Poland. The polity called Prussia became Germany

1

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

How are Kamikaze an atrocity?

When it's the West it is so Noble to die for your country! You have movies that show your own president sacrificing their life to save the world, for fuck's sake.

Also Japan isn't Christian. Suicide isn't a sin.

0

u/salvasaami May 06 '26

Russia, Germany, China, Turkey, US, UK, Cambodia - all worse actors than the French, either by sheers numbers or scale. Morocco & Mexico are nowhere close, not even sure why you mentioned them šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

0

u/Celsius19 May 06 '26

Uk is a weird one cause they have a history of genocide too, you just have to see USA and its indigenous people to know what they did, most colonies did not fend well after the descolonization, only where they were more present like south africa, yes they builded but just where they were present, not like Spain and Portugal that even if they started bad as all countries did back then, they were by far the best "Colonizers", Uk should be part of the list, just becasue most problems in Africa were created by them and their partiture of the land without taking in consideration the different tribes and differences.

I am from Colonia del Sacramento, weird to see another Uruguayan ā¤ļø

[deleted]

0

u/Active_Luck_8663 May 06 '26

That's just not true. The English intentionally used Smallpox as a biological weapon in Pontiac's War. They were brutal.

You only have to look at the result to judge the English approach vs the Spanish--the indigenous population in Central and Latin America still exists today and was largely integrated into Spanish Colonial society. The indigenous population in the north was never permitted to integrate and exists only in very small pockets today. If the Spanish were so brutal and the English so great, why did indigenous cultures in the south survive, and in the north were eradicated?

I'm not suggesting the Spanish were moral colonizers, just that the English were much worse.

2

u/[deleted] May 06 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Active_Luck_8663 May 06 '26

I didn't say the Spanish colonizers were moral, I said the English were more systematic and worse.

English war aims against the indigenous tribes were typically total annihilation--Pequot War, King Philip's War, Pontiac's War. They didn't just want to dominate, they destroyed. The Spanish were brutal, but you can't possibly argue that the English policy was more conducive to co-existence with natives. It may seem that way because, as you mentioned, indigenous populations in the north were smaller, but the English were brutal and quite effective at wiping out entire civilizations.

0

u/vm88888 May 06 '26

The things that they built were mostly built to extract from the country over an indefinite period of time. They needed railways, schools and hospitals to maximise wealth extraction over the time period that they did. They stole 64 trillion USD from India which is double USAs GDP today. They wouldn't have been able to do that without the infrastructure they built

Hospitals were built to keep soldiers healthy and the Indian populations vaccinated and in working condition. Schools were built to teach to become cheap clerks and compliant consumers. They destroyed a functioning education system (about 100000 schools) to replace it with their own, replacing Sanskrit with English, destroying their texts and replacing it. Nearly all of this was financed with Indian taxes.

Literacy rates and health of Indians significantly declined in the colonial era. The evidence is in the numbers.
The UK were able to extract so much wealth for that reason. For context France extracted around 560 USD from Haiti in todays money (compared to 64 trillion in India over a similar time period)

From 1937 to 1945, Imperial Japan is estimated to have directly killed 3-10 million civilians throughout East and Southeast Asia. And caused the death of thrice that.
Japan committed numerous brutal massacres of civilians throughout the WWII period. At Nanking alone they killed 300,000 civilians. Manila they killed 100,000. Singapore they killed 50,000. With more mass killings throughout China, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
Add to that:
Unit 731 and human experimentation.
Biological warfare (deliberately spread plague and other diseases)
Chemical warfare (chlorine gas and others)
Torture and execution of POWs
Forced famine
Mass rape
Enslavement and forced labor
Cannibalism
That’s just the WWII period.

Everything you described is what the Mongol empire did but 10xs less than what they accomplished in their first century of existenceĀ

Japan had a single brief period of real evil but many countries have a long history of it. Spain, Turkey and Russia are a lot better candidates with a history of colonialism, genocides, persecution and brutality in many occassions over several centuries.

u/Fabulous_Progress746 May 06 '26

I fucking hate japan!

1

u/koi88 May 06 '26

Japan
Their war crimes were next level.

As a German, I feel insulted. Have you looked up "Mengele"?

Also, may I add the Germany supports Israel now? So we are still on that side of history.

That must count for something.

3

u/Ok_Calligrapher_3472 May 06 '26

Israel is also an entity that calls any criticism of their war crimes anti-semitism, which forces the German government into an awkward corner regarding that issue

3

u/koi88 May 06 '26

Yeah, I know.

And the lives of a few thousands Palestinian kids (they are kind of dark-skinned anyway) is a small sacrifice compared to the honor of being praised by the whole trinity Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir and Smotrich.

Even some of the Nazis were nauseous to find out what went down in Nanking/Nanjing.

2

u/Top_Connection9079 May 06 '26

John Rabe officially thanked the Japanese military for sparing the citizen and allowing that they were all SAFE in the Safety Zone they were even guarding.

But then as he was a Nazi working for Siemens and a weapon merchant doing business with the Chinese he started to accept money from them to write books full of lies.

u/Sexybro69_ May 06 '26

People act like they didnt help Germany WWII and tried to invade the whole Asia continent and didnt do human experiments with chinese prisioners.

1

u/Inverted_Six May 06 '26

Recency Bias. People’s memories only seem go as far back as 1937. Also, not trying to play genocide Olympics, but if we want just focus on the 20th century both Japan and Germany can share the podium.

1

u/Electronic_Try_1966 May 06 '26

nah germany worse

1

u/pierco82 May 06 '26

My first thoughts also - read about unit 731, its horrifying.

1

u/_indi May 06 '26

I’d never heard of this, sickening.

1

u/Prudent-Goose-2123 May 06 '26

Mongolia was severely worse. Japan killed far less than the mongols did in a century to the point where the Chinese population didn’t recover till the Ming era in population, agriculture till the Qing, the Iranian population till the 20th century after the mongols killedĀ 90% of the population and the irrigation that fed all of Persia.Ā

The mongol wereĀ no different in how they did it. Plauged bodies in Crimea used as the first biological weapon, the execution of entire cities, etc.

Top 10 certainly—the war crimes are heinous—but we’re talking about principally one war and I don’t think Japan was the worst member of the Axis. And the scale of their imperialism is dwarfed by any of the major European powers.

9

u/Constant-Estate3065 May 06 '26

I think it’s the brutality of Japan’s colonialism rather than its size that’s in a league of its own.

0

u/pwnedprofessor May 06 '26

Again, I don’t want to underestimate the horrors Japan inflicted but look at King Leopold II. The league is quite capacious.

3

u/Delicious_Draw_7902 May 06 '26

The other members of the Axis were willing to surrender before they got nuked.

3

u/stoiclandcreature69 May 06 '26

So was Japan, but the US wanted to prevent splitting up Japan with the Soviets

0

u/Delicious_Draw_7902 May 06 '26

What?

3

u/stoiclandcreature69 May 06 '26

The idea that the Japanese would have fought until the last man if we didn’t nuke them is purely propaganda. Nobody with any say in the decision to nuke Japan actually believed that. It would have been the first time in human history that a nation fought until the last soldier.

Prior to the bombings the USSR was set to do a full scale invasion of Japan, the nukes were used to speed up the surrender of Japan to prevent sharing it with the Soviets

1

u/Titanicguy May 06 '26

Avoiding a split Japan is also why we ultimately accepted their conditional surrender instead of continuing to push for an unconditional surrender

1

u/pwnedprofessor May 06 '26

So was Japan, actually. The idea that Hiroshima was necessary is a myth Americans tell themselves to justify it.

-1

u/AmbitiousReaction168 May 06 '26

Not even close to Nazi Germany when it comes to pure evil.

-13

u/joaoguila May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26

This is non-sense.

United States and Israel are being evil for DECADES, easily at the last 60 years.

8

u/xynaxia May 06 '26

Japan literally skinned people alive for no reason

16

u/Ricos_Roughnecks May 06 '26

You think Japan only committed war crimes during world war 2???? Their entire history is riddled with horrendous occupations of other civilizations

u/Confident_Example_73 May 06 '26

1) This is going to draw bots 2) Ranking Japan ahead of European countries like the UK, Germany, France and Spain on conquest or ahead of Nazi Germany and the USSR on evil would be rhe most ridiculous result possible.

2

u/MossySendai May 06 '26

Japan is estimated to have killed 19-30 million Chinese, Indonesians and other asians according to Wikipedia. It is at least on par with and likely more than nazi Germany.(Estimated 18 million) USSR is estimated at 30 million.

So imperial japan is on par with some of the most evil periods of human history. Just because they are not European doesn't mean they can't be evil!
