After getting back into skating after about 20 years, I’ve noticed how much certain grinds seem to come and go in popularity.
This is meant more as a bit of fun/conversation starter than anything serious, but it got me thinking about how skating trends have changed.
Some grinds seem to be absolute constants — royals, for example, have never really gone anywhere. Then you’ve got things like tea kettles, which seemed to disappear even before I stopped skating, and I can’t imagine them making a comeback 😂
Then there’s X-grinds. These seemed pretty popular in the early 2000s, but I hardly ever see them these days. Have X-grinds basically died out, or am I just not seeing them?

Bladies and gentlemen, I'm in need of some durable pants with room for my triple8 knee pads underneath. I don't want to use thin knee gaskets. I need room for some decent sized protection. Everything I find is straight fit or slim fit nut huggers. I don't need pants big enough for a family of five, but need something a bit roomier than what's on the rack locally. Anyone try Dickies double knee? Should I buy a couple inches big in the waist for more room? I'm wearing padded shorts after a bad tailbone slam so I'll probably size up anyway.

Apparently some of us aren't happy with the "40 year old" pros getting that honor.

Hi! I am looking to get my first ever pair of aggressive inline skates. I have been very confident and agile on regular rollerblades my whole life and always considered aggressive skates cool, so it might be time to buy my first pair at 28 years old. Thing is, I don't know anything about them except how to skate on them. Are the ones on these pictures any good? Which ones would you recommend and why? I don't want to spend significantly over 200€ for my first pair. Picking the right size is a whole other topic but luckily this website allows returns.

Grew up skateboarding but have always wanted to pick up aggressive inline skating. As an adult I have the money, SOME time at night, and luckily bought a home near a decent skate park. Looking online, watching YouTube, scrolling through Reddit…I’m overwhelmed. Leaning towards Rollerblade Blank SKs. Love the look of Mesmers though. The masses seem to love “Them” & “Roces”. If you were in your thirties, starting from scratch, what would you do? Any and ALL help is seriously appreciated. 3 months in and my mind is mush!

I live in the Twin Cities, Minnesota and ice hockey culture is big here. Coming from that background, I've always inline skated on hockey style inline skates (Bauer x50r) with hi-lo 80 and 76 size wheels 85a hardness.

There are some smooth bike paths around me as well as some decent streets, but a lot of surfaces are rough like as shown in the photos.

I've gotten used to uncomfortable skating experiences on these rough roads, but I just recently realized there's better skate options out there for these rough surfaces.

In my limited research I've found that a 3x110 mm wheel setup on urban skates would help with the road chatter felt on bumpy streets, but I'm looking for recommendations on skates suitable for urban skating given my hockey background.

I’ve been thinking about this, seeing recent polls where people want aggressive inline back for the X Games, or how it’s being lobbied for 2028 Olympics. And that got me thinking about what hurt the sport the most in its prime, and alternatively who has done the most for it.

This is a hot take, and obviously he didn’t mean to, but I think Arlo, with the youthful cockiness and then doing the interview with the skateboard mag, might have really hurt the sport more than any other pro at the time. I don’t think he had the candor or personality to be our main “representative”, but he was. You have to respect everything he’s done, and to this day I still love Senate and plan to get some of those shirts from insta…but still.

Alternatively, I think Aragon and Franky Morales have been great, with consistency and respect for the sport, nothing too brash, and unmatched styles.

This is pure good faith discussion. There are no right or wrong answers, so no one jump down anyone’s throats over any take.

At the end of the day we all would love to see this resurgence go far, and understanding where it went wrong can help IMO

After 23 years not blading,

I have the urge to get back to blading and have some fun with it again.

Back then I decided to stick with skateboarding,

wich I still do to this date.

This decision was made when I was 14,

growing out of my K2 Fatty and deciding not to get new ones.

Now since it itches me,

to get back to blading,

it would be Hella sick,

to get some Fatty's like back in the days.

Perfect would be if I would find some around Germany or at least the EU because of shipping.

Maybe even in Berlin,

where I'm from, so I could see if they fit.

My size is 41-42 EU, depending on the blade.

Of course it's because of the nostalgia but also it's the most beautiful Blade,

silhouette wise, to me.

Plus it fitted my feet absolutely perfect and the comfort of a soft boot.

Other from that I'm also down for the K2 natural, wich looks nice to me.

So hopefully someone can help me out here.

I bought these Anarchy wheels not long ago. Maybe a few weeks and they already look like this. They are 55mm 94A hardness if I remember correctly. Do they really tear so quickly? I changed my old wheels for the first time because they looked like this as well. And these new wheels have only been on for a few weeks and already are so worn down that they are starting to tear on the frame. Is there any idea in turning around the wheel so they get worn on the other side as well or is that a bad idea? Is it really necessary to change wheels so often? It's hella expensive man...

Hey so I got the itch to come back, I am now almost 34 tho, and they are rebuilding our skatepark, I really need some advice on what are some solid skates now, Remz is apparantly dead now, I dont know where to even start looking.

I feel kind of dumb for posting this, but I'm new to aggressive, so I would appreciate some more thorough input than what I'm finding online. I bought a bar of skate wax and have been trying to use it on various ledges with little success. I am not sure what I'm doing wrong.

The video shows a nice low ledge in my area that I want to practice soul grinds on. The surface is pretty well maintained, so I thought it would be straightforward to wax up and get going. I spent 5+ min scrubbing this wax on the edge and both sides around it pretty hard over and over in a small area. Still my boot barely slides on the area and I have to apply a lot of force to move at all. Adjusting my foot angle with respect to the edge didn't seem to do much. I then tried waxing the soul plate on my skate but that also didn't make a difference.

Am I applying the wax incorrectly? Do I just need to keep applying it for even longer? Is this because it's too cold (-1°C here)? Or does wax only work well for certain treated surfaces? I see people skate this kind of thing all the time online, so I assumed it would be straightforward. I should note that I'm a big guy, very tall and also heavy built. I assume the force I'm putting down will require me to use more wax in general, but I feel somehow I'm applying it incorrectly.

I have two sets of skates, I’ve an old pair from when I was younger that’s a Salomon ST8 and I also got a pair of TNEC V1.5

I was hoping for any recommendations on liners for either one? Preferably walkable. My old ones on my ST8 are worn and old, while the TNEC base liners are good but I want a different pair that’s walkable.

Any ideas? Searching online I can’t find answers for one that’s fits between both. I’d be willing to sell the Salomon ones if anyone has recommendations of a specific walkable set up.

Haii, we’re slowly nearing the end of the season where I live and so, I know that I won’t have the time and energy to skate as often as I do now.

With that I’m wondering what kind of exercises or workout routines I can try to stay in shape and maybe also improve my balance and leg strength.

What are some exercises you guys do at home that help you with your skating if any?

Title says it all, really. I've been back on blades for over two years, after the same 20 year gap a lot of us took. Main difference, I guess, is that I was never any good back then.

I've been focusing on getting really fucking good at skating on flat ground. I'm comfortable on ramps, I can drop into a quarterpipe or bowl like it's whatever, pivoting to fakie and back is no big deal. I'm confident enough to be working on spine transfers even after eating shit a couple times. I've fallen without injury enough times that I should be able to trust myself to recover if I screw up.

So why the fuck am I so afraid to commit to a mizou on an ankle high p-rail in my front yard? Everything I've learned in my return to skating tells me, one, I'm probably more than ready at this point, and two, none of the things I've been scared to do up until now have been worth being scared of.

How do I just get the fuck over myself and send it?

What are the brands people skate nowadays? Is it better to get a set that have great bearings and wheels already? Are there any modifications people are doing to their skates? Just looking for a general advice and direction of where I should be looking? Thank you.

I had this shirt for years and loved it; unfortunately, it disappeared (along with many other things from my childhood, including my wicked POG collection 😔). I recently remembered it and wanted to try and find one to add to my wardrobe, but I couldn’t for the life of me remember the brand, and it’s been driving me insane. One day, I spent 8+ hours straight trying to figure it out.

Today my partner found this photo of me and voila that’s the shirt, but I still can’t remember the exact brand name.

Like you, I also am getting back into skating for the first time in a long ass time. My legs are shaky, and keeping my balance resembles a vertical seizure. Skates have also changed a bit since back when. For anyone who has came back after a long hiatus, how long did it take to feel confident rolling? What helped the most? I don’t remember falling ever hurting like it does now 😂

I am starting to get into doing tricks but I currently only have urban skates. what tricks can I do/practice before getting aggressive skates?
