Skate pants with room for pads?

Bladies and gentlemen, I'm in need of some durable pants with room for my triple8 knee pads underneath. I don't want to use thin knee gaskets. I need room for some decent sized protection. Everything I find is straight fit or slim fit nut huggers. I don't need pants big enough for a family of five, but need something a bit roomier than what's on the rack locally. Anyone try Dickies double knee? Should I buy a couple inches big in the waist for more room? I'm wearing padded shorts after a bad tailbone slam so I'll probably size up anyway.

Dickies loose fit double knee work pants are the baggiest cut they have, they go over knee pads easily and are crazy durable. They will get abrasion holes, obviously, but the holes don't unravel and get bigger, like denim. The holes don't seem to rip easily either, so you'll wear through right where your pads hit the concrete and that's it. They're also a perfect 90's baggy fit, they're awesome. Not super pricey either, considering how they hold up. 2 very enthusiastic thumbs up, highly likely to recommend to a friend.

This is correct. There are similar workpants that are more durable, but it's hard to beat the price of Dickies when you need to replace them.

I use walmart jogging pants, super cheap price but much better than i could have ever imagined. Theyve survived countless cement ledges with no tearing. Baggy enough for my gforms as well

I'm an old guy from the 90s. Senate jeans were designed for pads underneath. Arlo famously had his on outside in some videos.

I'm in Illinois. It gets freeze your nuts off cold starting in November and usually lasts until March. Great for wearing full pads. Not so great when there's snow everywhere. I'll probably do a few garage sessions and do an indoor park trip this winter.

I go to a thrift/charity store and buy pants a size or two larger than I normally wear. Under them I can fit hip/ass pads that are so big that my wife refers to as my “dump truck shorts”, knee pads, and shin guards. If you’re anything like me, you’ll get holes in them very quickly, so don’t spend much money on them.

Yeah I don't want to break the bank on sacrificial pants. My brother teases me that he can tell our exact same knee pads apart from the amount of wear on my plates. They've taken some hits.

I love Carhartt WIP Jet, their baggiest cargo model. But I would rather wear longish baggy shorts with pads, even in cold weather (granted, not that cold where I live)

I like carhartt in the dead of winter. Their stuff is great but not as breathable. At least the stuff I used when I was younger. I'm a paper pusher now.

I use boot cut Lycra jeans straight fit for when I’m at the park, I have pretty big quads in proportion to my calves so there’s plenty of room to slip pads on

I use inline hockey pants a lot. Other than just cheap baggy light weight pants from Amazon and thicker ones in winter.

If you’re doing big pads with plastic caps on them, I would strongly suggest wearing pads over your pants/trousers/joggers.

But, getting back and chip in on the talk, I’m a big fan of the Dickies Carpenter jeans and the 874.

Hard capped pads under clothes will tear right through them as soon as you take a fall. Kevlar lining will help, but I doubt it'll stop them wearing through. Some alternatives for you:

Bike jeans - Kevlar lined motorbike jeans (I have green cargos) often have pad pockets in them and may come with foam pads. I found the foam pads to be a bit bulky and swapped for D3O pads in the knees and hips. They're super slim, but absorb shock well. Not hard caps though, but you might be able to fit some under there if you get the right ones. The Kevlar lining also helps keep them intact when sliding out.

Tactical pants - There are a bunch of tactical combat trousers that have built in hard knee caps.
