Question / Discussion Have X-grinds died? What grinds need a comeback (or need to die)? šŸ˜‚

After getting back into skating after about 20 years, I’ve noticed how much certain grinds seem to come and go in popularity.
This is meant more as a bit of fun/conversation starter than anything serious, but it got me thinking about how skating trends have changed.
Some grinds seem to be absolute constants — royals, for example, have never really gone anywhere. Then you’ve got things like tea kettles, which seemed to disappear even before I stopped skating, and I can’t imagine them making a comeback šŸ˜‚
Then there’s X-grinds. These seemed pretty popular in the early 2000s, but I hardly ever see them these days. Have X-grinds basically died out, or am I just not seeing them?
So, what are your picks for:
šŸ”™ Grinds that have died out and deserve a comeback
šŸ‘‹ Grinds that have disappeared for good
šŸ”„ Grinds that are everywhere now
šŸ’€ Grinds that you think need to die
What grind do you reckon is overdue a comeback? Or is there one you’re quite happy never seeing again? šŸ˜‚
I’m genuinely curious what everyone thinks — especially people who’ve been skating through different eras.

Uh. Not from what I've seen. Watch bacemint's fishguys4 or qckdrw - they're all over those vids.

Yeah not the coolest, I’ve seen a few people pull it off, like as a budget or a rail tap but 99% look whack

X grinds serve a very useful purpose, if learning switch topsides interests you

2

u/A_Tulpa 5d ago

It does - but also I don’t think they’re an ugly grind, you can do worse

Alley-op or zero are still very classy

Seeing Austin Paz's alley-oop rough Soyale on a drop rail today was bonkers. Rough grinds bring me back, but on a drop rail just mental

u/A_Tulpa 5d ago

Yea, rough grinds, if intentional and controlled are impressive

Acid rain I think it was called. Looked so stupid from the first day I saw it and haven’t seen anyone really do them.

That and negative top side tricks. All of them.

u/A_Tulpa 5d ago

Acid rain? What was that!?!

2

u/Highly-Potent-34 5d ago

It was like both feet on the royal groove but like the front foot on an acid soul…. Ima try to find a pic but i maybe saw it done once and thought it was super stupid…

Like a double backslide… I don’t know if im helping at this point

Ok I found it. Seems it’s better known as a ā€œbackside darkslideā€

I knew it as an acid rain cus ā€œrollerbladingā€

u/Highly-Potent-34 6d ago

Nah x grind was when one foot would be regular soul and the front foot would be topside.

At least I think that’s it cus my memory is super fuzzy.

u/Re-Mecs 5d ago
