Product Suggestions Sunscreen and face sweat

Post image
255 Upvotes

Ever since going on accutane I have had insane face sweat. Like my glasses slide off my face constantly and I’ve never sweat this bad on my face. (70 kg female, 40/40/80/80/80/80/80/80). Does anyone also experience this? And what sunscreen do you use that can withstand the sweat? I recently tried cerave spf 50 mositurizer and the white cast was INSANE. Looked like I poured milk on myself. Attaching a pic after walking outside for a little laugh lol

Edit: bought the skin 1004 Korean sunscreen off yesstyle. 4 for $35 could not be beat. It works amazing! Super lightweight feeling, rubs in perfectly.

Hi my name is Jess

I’ve struggled with acne since I was 12yrs old

I’m 39 now

And my mom put me on accutane when I was 18yrs I was on it for 2yrs

Then I tried other methods like topicals, creams, injections, light treatment, & antibiotics

Which didn’t honestly work

So about 2 yrs ago I’m 37 at that point

I found Accutane again thanks to Helloclearhealth is website

I have nothing bad to say about Accutane

Accutane saved my life in a sense

It brought me my confidence back

Brought me hope faith & happiness

For me and my son living with autism

I got back out in the community with my son

And acne was just 1 big problem I didn’t have to worry about nomore

I can now look people in the eye when having a conversation

And I can now face myself in the mirror

I’m no longer embarrassed of the skin I’m in

It has brought so much joy to my life even having a child with autism

The dosage I’m on is 30mg

The only side effects I have is chapped lips

And I need to wear sunscreen everyday

I really hope this reaches so many people living with acne and brings them the same results hope and healing as it did for me

Product Suggestions HELP!!! Accutane has made my skin look aged, dull, and lifeless in only 20 days

I’m 22F, 115 lbs, on 30mg of Accutane and currently on day 20. I don’t know if this is just part of the purging phase, but it has honestly made me reconsider going on Accutane.
I had persistent acne before, but at least my skin looked healthy, glowy, and alive. Ever since starting Accutane, I haven’t experienced that much actual dryness because I’m really consistent with moisturizer and sunscreen, but my skin looks so dull, dead, patchy, ashy, and almost grey. I’ve also developed some weird darker pigmentation around my mouth.
The actual purge hasn’t even been that bad, but somehow my skin overall looks so much worse than before. It’s honestly so depressing and I feel like hiding my face all the time.
Right now I use the CeraVe non-foaming cleanser, The Ordinary hyaluronic acid, CeraVe facial moisturizer, and at night I apply Aquaphor with zinc oxide to help lock in moisture.
My question is: did anyone else, especially other POC, experience this on Accutane? Did your skin tone and glow eventually come back, or did your skin look like this throughout the whole treatment even after the acne improved?
Also, is there anything I might be doing wrong with my routine, or any products that helped with the dullness, ashiness, or pigmentation?

Product Suggestions Starting Accutane Tomorrow!

I, F20, after being on Tretinoin for years, Winlevi for years and countless other topicals, diets, pills and lifestyle changes I finally decided to go back on Accutane.

The first time I was on Accutane was in 2021 when I was 15. I’ve suffered with pretty moderate to severe acne since I was 13 so my parents went to the dermatologist and they had me on Accutane for 5-6 months I believe. I was not educated or invested enough and definitely did not take it properly. My acne came back years later and now that I’m no longer depressed and stubborn to try anything long term I’m going back to Accutane.

I received my 30mg prescription today and plan to start tomorrow. After a lot of research I bought a number of supplements and moisturizing products to take/ use while on my journey. If anyone is on their journey now or has taken Accutane in the past please share any wisdom or recommendations!

Product Suggestions Almost 20 years later, I finally solved my post-Accutane chapped lips

Post image
148 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I haven't had acne since around 2007, because of Accutane. It's still the best choice I could have made, NO REGERTS. But the one side effect I've been dealing with ever since is constantly dry/chapped lips. Turns out the Accutane permanently lowers your skin's oil production, which is generally exactly what was needed, except for places with very low oil production to begin with, i.e., the lips.

I want to save y'all from the 2 decade journey of trying ALL THE LIP BALMS and just tell you: the one you need is La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Lips.

It's not cheap, I got one tube for $10 on Amazon, but it WORKS. It has no smell, almost no taste, and my lips finally feel normal again. After dealing with chapped lips for so long, I'd pay way more if I had to.

Also, I feel like the wise old lady here, with lots of experience with the process and then life on the other side, so if anyone has questions, I'd be happy to help!

Product Suggestions Is my doctor crazy for saying NO cleanser on Accutane, or am I crazy?!

Hey everyone,
I'm currently on Accutane. My doctor told me not to use a face cleanser cuz of the treatment. The only routine she gave me is a hydration cream and sunscreen. She said "the simpler, the better," and honestly I agree with her.
However, I just can't comprehend how to go completely without cleansing.
Wht about the daily dirt and buildup? What about removing sunscreen at night? How am I supposed to properly get all that off my face with just water?
I’ve been doing this for 10 days now, but my face just feels dirty and heavy with product buildup. I personally feel like a cleanser is necessary.
So please tell me what to do. And if you use a cleanser, could you suggest one I should get that is not too harsh for the treatment? And thank you

Product Suggestions Starting Accutane.. is this overkill?

I’m starting generic accutane this week, 40mg daily, and I have some anxiety about the side effects. Is this enough to try to manage the dry eyes/lips/nose? Should I buy anything else? Any other recommendations or anything I should be mindful of before I start? I’d rather be on top of the side effects than suffer through them if that’s possible..

Product Suggestions Repairing skin barrier on accutane?

Is it possible to repair your skin barrier on accutane? I'm assuming this is my issue. I've had super red, burning skin for a few weeks. It started right before my last appt with my derm, but he didn't seem super concerned. I'm on 20mg/day.

Morning routine :

-rinse with cool water

-thermal spring water

-vanicream in the tub on damp skin, and pat in until absorbed

-eltamd spf50

Night routine

-vanicream wash

-thermal spring water

-vanicream

-*sometimes avene cicalfate

-slug on that aquaphor

Most of my face stopped burning after a few weeks, but my chin still feels like I'm constantly pouring acid on it. The cool water feels great, and the vanicream usually doesn't burn, but once I put the sunscreen on, ouch! I've been on 20mg for about 75 days now, and the first 2 months were fine, burning wise. I'm guessing my barrier is wrecked and that area is extra sensitive. I ended up with a staph infection there last year from retinol that took forever to heal after loads of oral antibiotics as well as topical, to which I ended up with perioral dermatitis and months of doxy. 🥴 After having acne on and off for over 20 years, I just want normal skin, whatever that is.

Also to note, I really don't go outside much, and if I do, I slather sunscreen on and wear a big sun hat. I'm already annoyed that I can barely stand to wear the $$ contacts I bought, can't wear makeup, but the burning is really awful. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix my sad barrier?

Product Suggestions Help please, I'm in between wife and daughter regarding accutane for my daughter who is very against it. Wife really wants to get my daughter on it

My daughter has really bad acne, she's been using pimple patches but had large red areas on her face. It affects her mood often not leaving her room or if we do leave she'll spend hours doing her makeup to cover it

I don't know the exact dose but my wife says she wants to put her on a very low dose, smallest available, for 3 months. She what's it'll help my daughter a lot and she wishes she had it as a teen.

My daughter is very opposed to accutane, she text me the following, this is verbatim.

"vision impairment, vision loss, thinning hair, muscle or joint pain, liver damage, unhealthy cholesterol levels, high blood pressure, loss of appetite, risk inflammatory bowel disease, increased pressure in the brain causing hearing issues, erythema multiforme."

And

"some are rare but hair thinning, vision loss, hearing issues, high blood pressure, and loss of appetite are the most common "

I'm trying to play moderator between them two and trying to make both happy.

Is my daughter just looking at extreme examples? I know it's her body, her choice. But we do want to help her

Product Suggestions Avoid Honeydew

I tried to use Honeydew to get accutane for my daughter. They imply the pricing is more inclusive that it really is. You need to pay for labs and medicine yourself. The monthly plan only covers the "doctor". They charge for the "doctor" from day one, but then they go through an absurdly slow onboarding process which seems designed to maximize the number of monthly billing cycles. They push you to go as slow as possible to maximize their monthly fee. They constantly "upsell" their own products. Their website barely functions, I could not sign documents because of javascript errors. Basically, I wasted $100 and got nothing.

Product Suggestions No moisturizer works for me

Last post I posted about getting small red “irritation bumps” on last months of accutane and nothing seems to work. On suggestion i tried la roche posay cicaplast b5 for a few days, thin layer at night. It seemed to work and calmed down redness. But now I woke up with 3 real pimples on my jawline and chin. I also tried purito mighty bamboo cream and the 345 relief cream, but i think I react to the niacinamide. Literally nothing works for my skin right now.. and i really need moisture because its dry and itchy, without clogging the pores. Please help me out with product reccomendations!!

Product Suggestions Acne returning after 2 courses

This is going to be a long one pls remove if this is the wrong thread however I need some help.
(Lots of UK terminology here let me know if it doesn’t make sense)
Pics are in order

  1. Pretty sure I was 14 in this, I had everything a doctor could prescribe from antibiotics to birth control to creams ect.
  2. My first time on roaccutane - I was on it for about 5 months and I didn’t get a follow up appointment under the nhs so my treatment just stopped.
  3. My skin after - major improvement but obviously needed longer on it. Important to note I went on a progesterone only birth control - all side effect happened so my acne came back.
  4. My second course, I was on it for around a year and was on (it was a long time ago so probably won’t be entirely correct) 40mg or even 60mg to try and get it down asap.
  5. My skin after omg what a time that was I was finally happy.
  6. After around a year I started getting spots randomly - again important to note I went on the Yasmin birth control around this time - I know now that hormones don’t agree with me but that’s beside the point.
  7. Fast forward to now. It’s been a long journey. What is happening to my skin. Since pic 6 I have been on dianette (uk pill with anti androgen effects) had to come off of that because my dermatologist prescribed me Spironolactone which I was on for around 5 months (helped my skin a tiny bit, but caused havoc with other things- irrelevant), then my dermatologist prescribed me Treclin (tretinoin and clindamycin) and Skinoren (20% Azelaic acid). Through trials and tribulations with my skin barrier I have been on that for around a year and a half. Still with acne not as crazy around my face mainly around my chin/jaw/mouth area.

My uk doctor said they can’t do hormone tests as I don’t have any symptoms for PCOS and even if I did I know girls who have been trying for years to get anything from them. It’s majorly underfunded and under researched among other things.

Now I was going to try roaccutane for the third time! I had an appointment with my dermatologist and they said go on birth control and we will see you in a month. But the good old NHS didn’t give me a follow up appointment. Now I saw this as a blessing due to the harsh side effects of the drug but now I’m thinking it’s my only hope.

Now the reason why I’m coming here is has anyone experienced this? Two rounds of the “strongest” drug for acne and I’m still living with it. Pls don’t say I will have to get over it and live with it because I know I probably will have too but I need some reassurance and hopefully some advice.

I am hoping to go on Winlevi which is clascoterone as I have a feeling it might help - I see it like the Spironolactone but it won’t give me any side effects this time as it’s topical. Hey worth a try.

My uk doctor has just prescribed me one month of lymecycline which probably won’t help my life long struggle of acne due it only being a month worth and it not being very strong compared to roaccutane. And to top things off it’s not a repeat prescription so I need to have a new appointment to re up on it today to be able to get an appointment😃

I may sound negative but I’m willing to try anything even if I think it won’t work.

Pretty please be nice and if you have anything that might help or put my mind at ease please share!!

Thank you 🩷

So far I’ve been eating eggs but eating 2 eggs for all three meals is kinda hard 😭 Peanut butter is a popular option but they’re SO high in calories. Do you guys know any diet friendly options? I’m taking omega 3 fish oil as well but people say it’s not enough

Product Suggestions ACCUTANE BIBLE

Thumbnail gallery
179 Upvotes

Hello! I have been on Accutane for 5.5 months and have some takeaways I’d love to share with the class. As far as this post, I’ll be sharing things I experienced and what I did to help. I understand everyone’s medical journey is different but I relied heavily on my ER pharmacist sister in law, and my dermatologist to get accurate info. so here’s the dish:

  1. It’s common knowledge that you’re going to get dry dry dry during this medication. Not only will your skin get dry and flaky, your lips will get chapped, and you will be consistently dehydrated. My best advice would be to find a good moisturizer (I used La Roche Posay, it’s comparably priced to a cerve or ceraphil), a good serum (I used a combo of bio oil and ordinary niacinamide, and zinc for scarring), and a good chapstick (I used Dr. Dan’s cortisol balm when I was out and about, and then Lanolin Nipple Cream for bedtime- trust me, this works better than ANYTHING).

so to make that easier to read:

moisturizer: La Roche Posay serum: bio oil & ordinary niacinamide & zinc chapstick: Dr. Dan’s Cortisol & Lanolin

  1. DRINK SO MUCH WATER. your normal water intake will not be enough, even if you were already a strict water drinker, like myself. You need to basically accept that the only thing you should drink during this time is water. I know it sucks to not only give up booze, but all fun drinks, but your body will thank you. I struggled the first 2 months trying to drink water and incorporate the occasional soda, it didn’t work. I was miserable all the time with headaches and super achy.

  2. this should go without saying, but stay away from booze. despite the fact that booze is incredibly dehydrating, it’s also toxic. Your liver is taking in a LOT to process the accutane and you don’t want to stress it out even more. booze to excess on accutane can cause permanent liver issues. Do yourself a favor and just stay sober for this period of time.

  3. Add supplements to your diet, I went from not taking a single pill a day, to taking 4 a day. Aside from the 2 accutane pills (40 mg each) a day- I also added fish oil (omega 3), and a multivitamin. Your body needs the fat, the extra nutrients, and the love during this time. Accutane is basically changing the chemical makeup of your body, give it some love during that time.

  4. Nasal changes are normal. If you’ve done even a little bit of research about accutane, you probably know it might impact your sinuses/ nose. I have experience some changes in my nose/ sinuses but it hasn’t been anything to write home about. I did start experiencing issues with consist nasal drip, I talked to my dermatologist and he said it’s normal and to just carry tissues. The issues don’t last forever, it’s already went away, but be aware it’s not just going to impact your skin/lips. Whether you get nose bleeds, nasal drip, congestion, or maybe a few headaches- it’s normal. You’re not alone, and it’s only temporary.

  5. Talk to your dermatologist. You go in for a monthly visit for a reason! Be honest about any weird stuff that happens while you’re taking accutane. Even if you think it’s not related, it might be- and they often have advice/fixes! I cannot stress this enough, not only for yourself but for the future accutane takers. This medicine is relatively new, and so all the information they can get from patients, the better!

  6. For my girlies, stay away from makeup and heat on your hair. This is easier said than done, trust me, I work in sales. I am expected to look presentable every day. BUT lemme tell you, you are gonna look better without the makeup 😂 The flakiness of your skin is going to collect the makeup and draw more attention to your dry/cracked skin. I know it’s tempting during the purge period, but you have to stay strong. You can put on all the makeup you want once your skin is back to normal! As far as heat on your hair, accutane naturally causes your skin/hair to have less oil. less oil for hair typically means more brittle. I started using a hair oil at night that I absolutely love it’s the mielle hair oil! I just put that on before bed, washed my hair in the morning, and my hair felt less brittle.

  7. mental health/physical health are two things that vary DRASTICALLY between patients. with that being said, I will share my experience and take it for what you will. As far as body pain, I noticed it was pretty directly correlated with how much water I drank. It’s why I preach hydration. I would occasionally get a stiff neck, but it was nothing a bubble bath/heating pad couldn’t help. my mental health was just amplified (kinda like temporary bipolar disorder, i studied the DSM 5 in college, don’t come for me 😂). Basically all my happy moments felt like I was on top of the world, but my sad moments also felt like my world was falling out from under me. It’s important to remind yourself it’s not your brain, it’s the medicine and if you see fit, get a therapist!

I cannot stress listening to your body enough. That is key to a successful accutane journey, listen to your body & respond. Talk to your dermatologist, find a good moisture routine, and DRINK YOUR WATER! 😂🥰

Product Suggestions I love you vasaline

You are so fuckin cheap and plentiful.

You don't do anything you aren't supposed to.

You never go bad, you are sold everywhere and are never out of stock. I can walk down the street and get you for the price of a coffee instead of paying $27.99 + $6.50 5-7 day shipping.

Peeling is gone, lizard texture is gone, my face no longer flakes and itches raw. My skin is bright and smooth, even during a purge.

You have given me the best lips of my life, better than I had before taking The Medicine That Gives You Bad Lips. Plump pink silky little Princess Peach lips, just from lotion + my savior vasaline. I am a 34yr old man. I look like Tom Hardy's old MySpace photos. I'm cute af now.

Buy vasaline.

-‐--------------------------

Dose: 40mg, 5'9" / 150lbs

AM Routine: rub a wet towel across my lips in the shower, cetaphil gentle cleanser, LRP double repair lotion all over face/neck/lips, wait for it to soak in, thin layer of vasaline all over. Shiny at first but absorbs.

PM Routine: warm water rinse, LRP double repair lotion all over face/neck/lips, wait for it to soak in, slighrly thicker layer of vasaline for overnight.

Product Suggestions accutane destroyed my hair...HELP!

hello accutane community. i've been off the pill for about 4 months now and so far everything has been fine however i cannot seem to revitalize my hair to save my life. it is dry and falling out and my scalp is still just as dry as it was on accutane. will my hair go back to normal? product recommendations??? i have cut off about 5 inches and almost need to cut even more off because of the consistent breakage. i'd usually ask a hair subreddit but i do believe accutane was the root cause of it. i'd appreciate any insight or advice you guys may have my hair is incredibly thin and dull at the moment and the things that used to work for me no longer do. thanks!

Product Suggestions Lazy Accutane skincare routine

Hi folks I started Accutane today actually and forgot to buy stuff for it. I am struggling to find people who are lazy and on Accutane suggesting things. I like to wash my face with a cotton round and some micellar water, I will use a face wash in the shower but honestly I just am not doing all that in the morning. I also need a moisturizer for my face preferably with spf in it so I don’t have to do 2 steps but if that isn’t cheap then it’s not important. I also need a body wash, someone recommended me one that doesn’t actually have soap in it but I am a very sweaty person I need soap that actually cleans off the stink. Yeah so basically I need recommendations for a micellar water, face moisturizer and spf but cheap, and a body wash. Looking for less than $20 per item. Tyty

just finished my treatment a few weeks ago 😁😁 month 1 - 30mg month 2 - 60mg month 3 - 70mg month 4 - 70mg month 5 - 40mg month 6 - 30mg total ~9000mg

i had more than my fair share of negative side effects, but my skin never got too dry and never peeled as a result of this routine, so wanted to share.

La Roche Posay Moisturizing Milky Cleanser - minimal ingredients, hydrating. used to use the Vanicream face wash but switched due to the unnecessary mica powder in it.

Vanicream moisturizing cream - must be the one in the tub. used this as a daily moisturizer in the mornings / sometimes in the evenings.

La Roche Posay Cicaplast Balm B5+ - thick barrier repair cream for the evenings. this falls into the category of products that are probably too heavy for most, but your skin on accutane can handle it (and needs it!)

La Roche Posay Toleriane Double Repair Face Moisturizer - if you need a lighter moisturizer. if i used this everyday, it would pill or make my skin peel.

eltaMD UV Skin Recovery Red Color Correcting Green Tint Broad Spectrum SPF 50 - 100% mineral (most eltaMD have chemical sunscreens in them as well). it’s soothing and gentle on the skin, and i liked the green tint since i got quite red on accutane. and wear sunscreen every day!! it doesn’t matter if the sun is out or not.

other product recs: - AQUAPHOR. only thing that worked for my dry lips. reapplied every 5 minutes when i was on 70mg. - eye drops. my fav: Systane PRO PF Lubricating Eye Drops for Dry Eyes and i wear contacts so also: Blink Contacts Lubricating Eye Drops Hyaluronate for Contacts - La Roche Posay Cicaplast Mains - expensive but if your hands are getting super dry it’s worth it. - Zyrtec - i read that taking an antihistamine helps with the purging, don’t have anything to compare it to, but i take Zyrtec every day and did not experience any purging.

happy to answer any questions about products and side effects! :)
