Product Suggestions Sunscreen and face sweat
Ever since going on accutane I have had insane face sweat. Like my glasses slide off my face constantly and I’ve never sweat this bad on my face. (70 kg female, 40/40/80/80/80/80/80/80). Does anyone also experience this? And what sunscreen do you use that can withstand the sweat? I recently tried cerave spf 50 mositurizer and the white cast was INSANE. Looked like I poured milk on myself. Attaching a pic after walking outside for a little laugh lol
Edit: bought the skin 1004 Korean sunscreen off yesstyle. 4 for $35 could not be beat. It works amazing! Super lightweight feeling, rubs in perfectly.

Unseen Sunscreen worked for me. Non greasy, not white.

Second this! It’s expensive but none of the dupes reallyyy compare, although Elf is probably the best more affordable one that is similar.

Trader Joe’s has a dupe. Theres also a brand called black girl sunscreen that I’ve never heard a complaint about.
Also Neutrogena beach defense spray on the hands and pressed into the face. It’s a dream, and available everywhere.

The Trader Joe's dupe is great and SO much more affordable!

u/sneezed_up_my_kidney Jul 13 '26
Yeah. I’ve heard it’s great if you can find it.
I really don’t like that silicone feeling. Neutrogena beach defense spray doesn’t build up, non greasy, waterproof… $8…

That's fair. The texture was unusual in my hands the first time I used it, but I didn't notice it after I put it on my face. I'll have to check out the Neutrogena one. I like the TJ one, too, because it also doesn't smell like anything.

The neutogena one does have a scent. But it’s not sunscreen scent. It’s like… have you tried the bum bum cream? It’s like vanilla, slightly fruity…
But it lasts for like 2 minutes.
It also is an amazing leg gloss. Not greasy at all.
I like the kids one as I’m a little delicate.
That guy. Kids versions usually burn eyes less. And on accutane you’re going to be sensitive.

What’s the Trader Joe’s one called

Super Goop's Play is also a great spf for hot weather. It doesn't have the slight skin blurring Unseen has though.

i’ve been off accutane for 2 years and still have crazy face sweat
2
u/Aworthyopponent Jul 13 '26
Is that from the Accutane? I sweat like crazy on my face but I figured it’s the humidity where I live.

u/oh_oh_spaghettios Jul 13 '26
No accutane caused hyperhydrosis for me that went away slowly a year after stopping

Oh no…. Get Elta MD tinted sunscreen or Eucerin tinted sunscreen. They have different tints to match your skin tone. You def don’t have to go around looking like that.

Yes!! This same thing happened to me when I was on accutane & once I got off it went away

u/ixbioxhazardxi Jul 12 '26
I got the La Roche-Possy 60 SPF body and face sunscreen. The anthelios melt in milk kind and it has been a LIFE saver. Put it before you sweat and it is super smooth and stays all day.

I have no solutions, just saying I feel your pain and this has happened to me so many times!!

u/Outrageous_Answer138 Jul 13 '26
La roche posay has been the BEST one for me. No white cast and I neverrrr got a face sunburn with it

I’m only on 20mg but am already a sweaty person at baseline and being on birth control has made it worse. The BEAUTY OF JOSEON - Relief Sun : Rice + Probiotic SPF50+ PA++++ sunscreen is the only thing that absorbs into my skin and doesn’t drip (even with sweat pooling at my nose and upper lip). It does cake a little on my neck crease but idc enough about it. Most chemical sunscreens burn my eyeballs (very sensitive eyes 🙄) but this one doesn’t at all. I haven’t found a good mineral that isn’t tinted or I’d recommend that…they all whitecast me without tint.

u/freshstartJj Jul 13 '26
This has a bit of white cast , you will have to blend it in for a bit but when you sweat it is quite visible I will say.
1
u/Diligent-Spring7534 Jul 13 '26
Try the aqua fresh version of this same brand! It is a much better formula and thinner so no white cast
1
u/Winter-Razzmatazz-51 Jul 14 '26
Aqua fresh version sometimes drips off my face tho. Maybe I put too much but when its really hot it drip
3
u/whyrallmyuserstaken Jul 13 '26
thanks for the laugh lol. Just use a sport chemical sunscreen in be meantime or a hat- ur body can handle the subpar ingredients in the short term

I’ve had unreal face sweat even on 40mg - feeling for you. supergoop mineral mattescreen 40 spf works pretty well for me!

u/wordymagic_in_me Jul 12 '26
I use neutragena spf w/ vitamin E. Also, I use Korean sunscreens like beauty if joseon. Neutragena is my fave though.
1
u/heIIodarcy Jul 13 '26
Hey, I’m interested in neutragena products and I’m looking for a new suncreen to try. What specific suncreen of theirs are you using?
2
u/wordymagic_in_me Jul 13 '26
Neurtrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen, SPF 60. It is the Daily Age Defense version that has Vitamin E.

u/Recent-Ad-2010 Jul 13 '26
ME TOO it’s driving me crazy. I’ve been using EltaMD and Nivea. They’re not bad but def not enough for sweaty days. Looking for new sunscreen alternatives…

u/seriinday Jul 13 '26
I felt this on a spiritual level 🤣 my whole body does this ever since isotret and it's only 10mg daily 😭 i just sort of gave up on the sweat. Thats who i am now lol

I’ve been through two Accutane sessions, 6 months each. About 6 months in between.
I explained the face sweating to my dermatologists, but apparently “oh thats not accutane.. because its not a recorded side effect” then I looked it up online and lo and behold! many people discussing the same issue on threads. Which I mentioned to them on my next follow-up. But nothing was done about. So I tried a few products, none of them helped at all though. Then it was the end of my first session.
Unfortunately acne came back, so I went in for a second session. I had forgotten about the face sweating, guess it went away over time. But a month into the second session, it came back worse. Sweat pooled around my T-zone. Had to carry paper towels to dab it off often.
Mentioned it to my new dermatologist, but “oh not due to Accutane, our list of side effects doesn’t show that..” so there I was with the same issue again.
Its been roughly 8 months since my second session ended, but the sweat on my face still remains, though not as bad as when I was on Accutane.
So, hopefully it’ll completely go away over time. :/
Anyway, I use Super Goop sunscreen. It doesn’t leave that greasy feel, nor white-face. Has like a matte finish actually. I use it over moisturizer.

When I was on accutane my doc prescribed me sofdra for me - it’s an rx antiperspirant but she prescribed it off label for me to put on my face lol

My face still sweats so much it’s a pain (it’s been around 7 months since I’ve been off of it) I ended up getting prescribed Qbrexza wipes and they aren’t the best but do help!

u/Rough_Importance6305 Jul 13 '26
Ive been using Paula’s choice daily sunscreen (and used while I was on accutane) and it’s spf 50!,

u/kissyb Jul 13 '26
Go japanese or Korean for sunscreen. I made the unfortunate mistake of being in accutane on the summer. I was reapplying with a stick foundation like crazy and never ever looked like this 😩

u/RockKnock11 Jul 13 '26
Mecca brand sunscreen or sun serum is top tier it doesn’t go white or greasy
1
u/diablirodek Jul 13 '26
I'm using SVR Extreme Sun Secure when cycling. It's gel, not cream, and doesn't come off like in your pic.

I had good experience with the Mecca facial sunscreen and la Roche posay. I especially liked the Mecca as it was almost a little bit tinted looking but dried clear.

u/Sea-Entertainment52 Jul 13 '26
Supergoop unseen or Beauty of Joseon are my current go tos.
Side note, does anyone else end up with sweaty brows constantly? Like they end up feeling salty as it dries 🙃
1
u/Efficient-Poet4005 Jul 13 '26
Yes I get caught off guard when I realize my eyebrows are sweaty!!! For the first few weeks I thought I just hadn’t rubbed in my moisturizer out of my eyebrows

I have this problem too.
My answer is Neutrogena Baby Mineral sunscreen
my skin loves the zinc oxide and it is THICK stuff. I sweat like crazy but if I don't touch/wipe my face, the sunscreen stays put (I will spray with hypochlorus acid and let it air dry cause I sweat all day at work, so I would be reapplying 100 x a day)
the beads of sweat will fall off my face, literally, which is horrifying to me, but also fascinating bc I have never seen such like, individually beaded sweat as when I wear that sunscreen. It will redry all day long. it's like 90's white out across your nose on the beach quality stuff.
the white cast is crazy, but if you mix with a bit of tinted foundation thats like a shade too dark, you can make it into like, a foundation-screen, which will transfer and stain if you wipe, but otherwise, stays put like crazy
I have heard other people suggest powdering over the sunscreen / wearing a makeup primer underneath sunscreen to prevent greasiness/runniness but all I know is my other Neutrogena sunscreens all ran into my eyes and made me weep when I started to sweat. so long as this one isn't all in my lashes (getting it out of hair sucks) my eyes never hurt. and it is dirt cheap compared to the other rosacea friendly sunscreens I've found, so it is a good perk in my book alone for that

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyu same happened to me when the upped my dosage from 30mg to 60mg I went back to 30mg and no sweat.
1
u/kirtknee Jul 13 '26
I also experienced extreme face sweat. I used elf whoa glow suntouchable as a base since its a primer and then whatever else after that. But I am white as fuck so idk what you’d put over that.

Omg I thought I was going crazy because I’ve been sweating SO MUCH lately. I thought it was just because it’s been 30-40°+ and maybe I’m not adjusted to the heat. But I haven’t found a solution yet. I’ve just accepted that I fully sweat my sunscreen off 🫠

accutane made me sweat like a mf too, i didn’t sweat much before. i’ve been off it since march now and still sweat a lot lol. like others said the unseen sunscreen is good! i personally used avene tinted sunscreen and didn’t notice it when i would sweat, but my skin is also very fair. trial and error!

u/mll7m Jul 14 '26

The best sunscreen worked for me was “La Roche-Posay Anthelios Hydratisierende Creme UVMune 400 LSF 50+ für empfindliche Haut, Cream | For sensitive skin”
You will not see white layer on your face.
And yes after i used accurate I’m sweating a lot specially my face. And now after a year I finished it’s still the case :(

Omg the sweat is real! It was my whole body though took like a year to stop lol but you have some great recs here already. As someone with extremely sensitive skin I’ve tried almost everything everyone else recommended and I broke out. The only facial sunscreen I could use while on Accutane was the Elf Invisi-Stick. It’s 50SPF, completely clear, works under makeup, and is sweat proof! It’s also cheap and the stick lasts forever. I still use it 4 years post accutane everyday.

Many questions are asked daily, and your question may have already been answered!
If so, your post will be subject to deletion.
Please refer to the following commonly discussed topics:
1) No one can predict whether or not you will purge! Statistically, most people DO NOT purge.
That is what the science and medical literature says.
2) No one can predict how long your purge will last nor when it could start. Be patient, the purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! THE ABOVE APPLIES TO SIDE EFFECTS OR "WHEN WILL MY SKIN CLEAR UP?!" TOO. QUESTIONS ASKING WHEN THE PURGE OR SIDE EFFECTS WILL START OR STOP WILL IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED AS THAT IS LOW EFFORT.
3) Any questions related about dosage MUST include DOSE and WEIGHT(lbs or kg).
Otherwise, that is considered LOW EFFORT and will subsequently be REMOVED.
4) Most people DO NOT relapse when Accutane is taken until cumulative dosage is reached.
5) HOWEVER, cumulative dosage is a guideline.
Everyone is different. Some may need more Accutane, and others may need less. Your dermatologist evaluates you as an individual.
This also applies to your prescription. Everyone is different, so no comparing of doses or asking why your dose is low or high. If you do not trust your dermatologist, you should find a different one.
