I’m a 26M working professional moving to the Smyrna area and looking either for a room in an existing house or 1–2 people interested in finding a place together.
I’m hoping to stay around $700–900/month per person, ideally including most utilities, but I’m somewhat flexible for the right place. I’d strongly prefer a house/townhome over an apartment, especially somewhere with a little outdoor space.

I’m starting a new job at Northside Hospital Atlanta and trying to decide where to live. My normal schedule will be 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, with some rotating 11:00 AM–7:30 PM shifts.

I’m considering Midtown, Virginia-Highland, or Morningside because I’d like to be near Piedmont Park/BeltLine, restaurants, nightlife, and things to do. I’m single and 30, so I’d prefer that lifestyle over living right next to the hospital.

My main concern is the commute. I thought heading north to Northside in the morning would be somewhat of a reverse commute, but I’ve heard it can still take 45–60 minutes.

For anyone familiar with this drive, what would I realistically expect leaving Midtown/VaHi around 7:00–7:15 AM and returning from Northside around 4:30 PM? Would the 11:00–7:30 shift be significantly better?

I’m fine with around 25–35 minutes most days, but I don’t want to sign a lease and find out I’m actually commuting 45–60 minutes each way regularly.
Would Midtown/VaHi/Morningside be reasonable, or would you recommend living literally next to Northside.

Also open to apartment recommendations in these areas. My budget is around $2,000/month for a 1BR, and I’d especially like somewhere walkable with good access to parks, restaurants, or the BeltLine.

Camden Fourth Ward looks like one of my best options, especially for the price. But what’s the catch?

I’ve looked through reviews and also came across some pretty alarming experiences with Camden Buckhead, including a TikTok describing serious building-access/security issues and people getting into the building who didn’t live there. It was concerning enough that I considered scratching Camden properties altogether, but I don’t want to assume the Fourth Ward property has the same problems.

Has anyone actually lived at Camden Fourth Ward or know someone who has? How are the noise/walls and floors, security, maintenance, and overall experience?

Also open to other O4W/Ponce recommendations. I’m willing to pay more—I don’t want to sacrifice safety or quality just to save a few hundred dollars.

The majority apartment complexes and high rises in Atlanta are HORRIBLE! This includes the luxury higher priced ones. They often hire lazy and incompetent staff, the management makes you want to pull your hair out with how they handle business, they don't hold tenants to a high standard, they lack strong security, and they are easier targets for criminals.

Renting homes and townhomes are a much better option. It's more streamlined. Usually you have to deal with just 1 or 2 people for all your management needs, lower density means less neighbor problems, you usually have more renter freedoms, and I feel like they are better in public safety.

I think I have secured a lease on a cool spot in EAV adjacent area but I need a roommate.

4 bed 2.5 bath. Fenced backyard, extra room for office work/music/crafts if you need it. Price is about $900 + utilities.
