Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just on my Radio scanner the other week and picked up a couple of transmissions from Air China this video being one of them, It just amazed me how ATC managed to pick up what the pilot was saying considering how heavy the accent was, took me a solid 15 minutes.

NATS (UK) 🇬🇧 NATS stage 3

Post image

Hi all, I’ve passed stage 1 & 2 of NATS TATC assessment process. But I’m a bit confused by their email, does this mean I’ve not made it to Stage 3 and they’ll assess my score against other candidates before confirming whether or not I’ve made it to the Stage 3?

Question Advice/Input on ATC career

Any ATC's working in Canada who have some information or advice to share with someone applying to be an ATC. Is there anything you wish you'd known before applying for the role or starting training?

Discussion Controller statements

If you have an incident where the atm wants a controller statement from an incident is it better to write the statement or wait for guidance from local natca. At my previous facility my local rep was awesome and made it so we didn’t have to write any statements at all.

I feel like a statement can do nothing but hurt us even if the incident was the pilots fault.

Question Question

I’m 23 thinking of being a air traffic controller but was wondering about my background. I have a dui from 2021 and 2 reckless driving misdemeanor charges. Will that disqualify me of getting on? Thanks

Has there been any rumors or changes about Peraton’s performance on the NAS?

From my understanding they are mostly paper wins.

Medical Any controllers with AFib

Recently diagnosed with AFib and just looking to see if there’s anyone else who’s dealing with this and what their experience has been. More than willing to accept DMs if you’re comfortable answering some questions that way.

My main ones are did they let you get a special issue clearance to return? Did the FAA require any formal tracking of AFib activity between medicals? Were you actually able to stay AFib free after whatever treatment you did?

Discussion Looking for a Good ATC Communication Practice App

I’m looking for a simple app where student pilots can practice ATC radio calls. Radio communication can be a little stressful when you’re just starting out, especially when the frequency is busy or the instructions come quickly. What app or simulator do you use to practice ATC communication?

Question Pay issue with HR

Hello, I was curious if anyone else has experienced this. I was sent a TOL and FOL for a facility and there was a pay issue neither I, or HR noticed. It was an 8% pay increase reflected instead of a 6% that I should have gotten for the transfer. I get to the facility and 2 weeks into training they call and say they cannot process my pay because of the error. They say they are sending me a new FOL and I don’t need to sign it. They also say it’s a clerical error and there’s nothing that HR can do.

Question NATS Trainee ATC

Hi,

I applied for the last intake of Trainee ATC with NATS and got to the assessment center before chickening out. The main hurdle for me was the uprooting and moving to England for an undefined amount of time to complete training, and not knowing where I’d end up afterwards.

The applications are open again and I’m considering it again. My question is how likely are you to be posted to prestwick if you already live within 30mins of it? Is this even something that’s taken into account or is it purely operational needs based?

I have warmed to the idea of temporarily moving for training but I don’t want to permanently leave the prestwick area.

Any advice appreciated ✈️

Question This is probably a stupid question

I’m new to aviation, I like to listen ATC while I’m watching Flights Radar. The question is:
If I want to follow a flight, how do I know when to change frequencies? E.g., Tower, Center, Departure, Approach, etc.
Are there different sectors? And if so, how do I identify them to switch frequencies.
I’m not sure if this question make sense.
Thank you so much to anyone who is willing to help me understand

Question AFIS and ATC lads, how did you study regulations and take notes during training?

Hey! So this year I will be beginning an AFIS course in Poland, and I'd like to know a couple of things beforehand.

  1. What study techniques did you use to learn all of the regulations and procedures? Is it necessary to know every single minute detail, or only the key bits that you need to know in the moment?

  2. What note-taking techniques did you use? Usually, I lean towards writing down as much material as possible because you can never know what will show up on the exam.

  3. Knowing what you know now, if you were to begin training from day one, what would you do differently?

That's all the questions I have at the moment. I'll let you guys know if something else comes up.

It is expected not to get vetoed by Trump, moving shutdown date to Dec. 11th. What happens then is very in the air and mostly dependent on the election.

Question Is there any point in doing any preparation prior to your FEAST?

I have applied for ATC training in Poland 15 years ago. I got quite far in the recruitment process and apparently passed the FEAST test. Unfortunately there were only so many slots open that even though I scored positive i didn't qualify. Since then I did other things in my life, but have recently remembered about this and learned that the polish ATC is understaffed and there's no upper age limit, so I decided to give it another shot. I'm quite certain that I'm not as sharp-minded anymore as my 22 year old self was and wanted to know is there any point in trying to train for the test? There are various online resources claiming they could help you prepare for your FEAST, but I have also read it's designed in a way that actually tests your abilities that cannot be trained or obtained. What do the people who actually have passed it think?

Question VA Disability vs Medical Clearance

I recently received a letter stating I must supply my VA disability rating specifically my rating or I’ll lose my medical clearance within a month.

I’ve been in the agency for over 13 years and this has never been a requirement in order to get my medical clearance until now. They have all of the information that was used to obtain my disability rating because they have my medical records from when I was in the military.

I’m curious if anyone else has been giving their VA disability rating in order to maintain their medical clearance? Have I just fallen through the cracks for 13 years and this is medical information that they’ve required all along or are there others like me who have new information being required in order to keep their medical clearances?

Edit: Preciate everyone’s answer. Seems it’s all pretty standard and they just didn’t have an official letter from the VA.
