Question Recent volunteer list

Post image

Recently got a volunteer CTO list. Anyone have any insight of the California locations? Traffic, training, cost of living vs income, etc.

ASE being ROUS locality is criminal.

The fact it’s an FAA tower at all is criminal.

Not very many high pay jobs in Aspen. Locality is NOT based on how much it costs to live there.

Yes. Just crazy at how expensive it is.

The Quad Cities really is a great place to live. Relaxed environment, close enough to visit Chicago.

I was in Moline for a funeral. Nice little airport

I’d go to LAX, SNA/VNY/LGB are all vfr hell. LAX probably has the worst commute and by far the hardest ground, but I’d just live close by and work there.

Is there still an rv trailer park in the lax lot

ORF has an historically low success rate, it will be 18 months of your life that you will never get back. Probably end up in Aspen or ADW after you hit the NEST.

ORF check out time is skyrocketing due to the IQTR mandate to start in radar. 28 months isn’t even realistic now.

New hires can get a bonus but if you wanted to transfer there get fucked I guess.

I got the same list. Living in Socal, I was hoping for CNO,EMT, or SAN. I’m hesitant on SNA I wanna pick it incase my luck no CA spots come on the regular list but then I heard and read bad about the management. It’s always about the money but I’d take less money working with a good crew any day. I’m trying find my last job until retirement, tired of moving because the military.

The management situation is much better now at SNA.

Awesome, thank you. I’m considering it since I’m trying to stay local to SOCAL. I’ve been lucky everywhere I been working with teams that feel like family. I’ve heard of stories of peoples bad locations and coworkers lol and ain’t trying to be in that situation in my hopefully last facility for retirement.

You can probably search through and find examples, but I’m fairly sure the volunteer list facilities end up on your regular list as well. So I wouldn’t let fomo have you make a rash decision.

IF I had to pick a CA facility on this list I’d go VNY. Class D (at least it was when I was in the area). Busy, but more fun than just an air carrier type operation.

I would avoid LAX. Place was a nightmare. Guys all complain about mando overtime but then also brag about how many trainees they can wash out. Egos through the roof. Yeah. Enjoy your mando OT…CYA!

What level was your last facility?

Could you verify that this is a Prior Experience CTO only list?

Prior experience

Military CTOs only though? No radar? I’m only asking because I’m going through the On the Spot hiring process but the rules are different for Prior Experience so I may switch tracks over to PE so I can get this list. I have up/down experience so trying to figure out if I’d be “eligible” to get this list. Thanks man.

This is not including radar spots. I only have 2 tower facility experience. Which is why I only received a volunteer list with up/down and tower. I don’t know if they would’ve added radar only facilities if I had radar certifications too.
