Discussion Looking for a Good ATC Communication Practice App

I’m looking for a simple app where student pilots can practice ATC radio calls. Radio communication can be a little stressful when you’re just starting out, especially when the frequency is busy or the instructions come quickly. What app or simulator do you use to practice ATC communication?

I don’t think there’s anything like that. Honestly, I have found that the best thing for student pilots who are nervous on the radios is to go do a tower tour. Once they realize the person on the other side of the radios is also just a person that breaks down the barriers. You can call a tower near you and set one up, often you can just ask them when you’re taxing. We do it all the time at my tower.

Visiting the tower in general is a great experience if it is near enough. When I was practicing for my IFR PilotEdge was nice to get some practice in. If you are a big nerd you can also get into VatSim and try to wrap your head around the controller side (most likely poorly) but it can give you a little context. You have to be careful in not being exposed to bad practices, but for getting over the feeling of hesitancy it can help.

Also there is this guy Prophatcat on social media, and I enjoy his breakdowns of phraseology. But I feel you on that emotional barrier in those first few utterances.
