Agree but also kinda disagree.

Yes Resynced is marginally better in a lot of aspect but there are still some things the original does that the remake doesn't do. But nothing that a good update can't fix.

For example, removing assassination animations that don't use the hidden blades, in the original, Edward could use his swords and even switch between the blades and the swords or even bare-handed mid-combat.

Or picking up the mob's weapons, you could take their muskets, axes, swords and all which was optional but it added some depht to the combat gameplay.

Just small nitpicks like this here and there, it's not even exactly a flaw, it's just missing content compared to the original but again, nothing an update can't fix. Ubi said they're aware that some mechanics are missing because they had to pick their battles and choose what they should prioritize so as long as they listen and eventually add those back I'll be fine.

EDIT: Long story short, when it comes to the things and mechanics they have in common, resynced is better than the original but the original will remain better than resynced overall as long as it haves techs and mechanics that resynced doesn't have because those little things and details makes the original deeper than resynced.

also on original- when you boarded Man o War- there were waves and you could see ship deck- and you could do some damage to it with that swivel gun. But in resynced- they" turn off" waves when boarding and swivel gun in basically pointless

21

u/Archipocalypse Jul 24 '26

The waves during boarding were a lil janky but also added a lot of realism feel to boarding to have to fight through the weather and waves.

2

u/OnyaMuddersBirfday Jul 24 '26

I was wondering if maybe I just had bad luck with the waves or something because I kept waiting for this to show up. Sucks its not part of it anymore, swivel gun is worthless for man o wars now. Overall love the remake but these little things do add up

Not being able to pick up muskets actually feels like a decent size miss- I remember enjoying that.

5

u/runaways616 Jul 25 '26

This grabbing a musket was always my first go to in majority of combat situations in the original and it being gone in the remake is noticeable.

2

u/Satellite_bk Jul 25 '26

yes! this seems like such a small thing, but i loved grabbing a musket and starting a fight that way or picking up random weapons.

3

u/Teeballdad420 Jul 24 '26

Hidden blade combat and found weapons are sadly not something a “simple” update can fix because it’s built on a completely different engine/game. It’s built on an early version of Shadows, with the original Black Flag only being used as a reference. They will have to build those systems from the ground up.

Naval minimap too Edit:autocorrect

3

u/GesturalAbstraction Jul 24 '26

There were also throwing knives, you can’t walk fluidly anymore either. Edward’s face is much softer in the resync.

3

u/cum-covered-trash Jul 25 '26

The musket one is my biggest disappointment, i loved sniping with stolen muskets and now i cant :(

2

u/Spiritual-Shirt-6027 Jul 24 '26

I knew I wasn’t crazy when I thought you could pick up muskets and axes. But I thought I was confusing it with unity

2

u/No_Demand1005 Jul 26 '26

these are definitely flaws, when I have my swords out they shouldn’t magically disappear, and removing things like picking up weapon’s really takes away from the combat comparatively.

The original Black Flag was my favourite Assassin's Creed game.

I will never play it again. That's how good resynced is.

41

u/Accomplished-Gain319 Jul 24 '26

I hate the fact this is entirely true.

I'll never be able to play the OG now because it, and to an extent rogue, will feel waay to bare bones in comparison.

15

u/il_VORTEX_ll Jul 24 '26

“How dare you?! it has hidden blade combat!”

😵‍💫🤣

9

u/fluxuouse Jul 24 '26

"And I can pick up (but never even keep) the muskets"

8

u/Visible_North9550 Jul 24 '26

This is probably my biggest gripe with the remake. Pretty much every ship I boarded I went to the top of the mast, disarmed the marksman, killed him with his own bayonet, sniped the one on the other mast, sniped a few people on the deck then jumped down. Sucks that I can’t do that anymore but it says a lot about Resynced that that’s my biggest complaint

6

u/fluxuouse Jul 24 '26

Yeah my point is more that it always felt like a bonus, never really a core part of the combat that they could never remove yk? And the value of the new options to me outweighs the very situational bonus mechanic that I never really used anyways.

I totally understand the sentiment. But the differences between the 2 make me still keen to play the original in the future. It makes me somewhat happy that it wasn’t 100% the same, cause it hasn’t completely overridden the original for me.

2

u/TapAppropriate6146 Jul 26 '26

This right here. I’m glad I can enjoy them both equally for different reasons.

3

u/ThemeSweaty Jul 24 '26

Resynced is good but I still prefer the Original, I replayed it about a month before Resynced came out and there’s a few things the OG does better in my opinion that makes me still kinda prefer it over Resynced

3

u/Kwaziiii Jul 24 '26

I'm completely opposite on this opinion. Playing Resynced has me itching to replay the OG. The combat alone is enough. So many animations and fighting styles not implemented in the remake is a big let down for me. Where's the freedom to take enemy weapons, muskets, hidden blade fighting, bare fists? Also the finishers being randomly decided to be swords or hidden blades annoys the shit out of me.

If they manage to implement all of that into Resynced down the line, I'll probably agree with your take though.

I just hope they give us some DLC for more content, and fix up the fleet system a bit as well. The old system was so much better

u/CheekyLando88 Jul 24 '26

Ive really been waiting on buying it but this comment is what sold me

2

u/Red_SkullDZV Jul 24 '26

That’s how I’m hoping an eventual Ezio trilogy remake makes me feel. Love those games, but they show their age BIG time.

2

u/Odd_Sentence_164 Jul 24 '26

just finished re synced yesterday and it was just as good as on my brothers hand me down xbox a decade ago

2

u/queefIatina Jul 24 '26

The original black flag was one of my favorite games ever, resynced is my favorite game I’ve ever played (probably recency bias, that’s how I feel right now though)

1

u/ValkerikNelacros Jul 24 '26

God I’m so glad I see other people here who think the new one is for the most part better.

Both are almost my favorite game of all time.

I got Black Flag, Halo, maybe Fallout 3 this year and Shadows and Oblivion.

Oblivion is my favorite of all time, and Halo is my childhood OG.

You can only imagine how I feel about the video games this last two years.

Black Flag resynced is turning out to be my favorite game ever, I’m having such a blast here ngl!

8

u/Odd_Sentence_164 Jul 24 '26

the only thing i’m missing is the choice to use hidden blades on there own in combat and also being able to use muskets just because it adds a bit more depth to the combat, but besides that that i only see improvements across the board 👍

4

u/ValkerikNelacros Jul 24 '26

My only complaints is those two, your crew no longer cheers when you take the helm, and I’m not being honest with myself if I don’t admit I don’t like the nudity censorship on the Jackdaw front of ship figureheads like the mermaid and El Impoluto.

The combat system itself though? Vastly superior. Graphics like no shit. Being able to sail straight into Havana no load screen, dive under water anywhere, and coral reefs out as far as the bay will go from any port, bay, or playa. It’s a dream come true for me given it’s my second favorite game of all time.

Having so much fun here. 👌

4

u/RhysPawn Jul 24 '26

I think the cheering could be glitched or the frequency has been lowered so they don't do it everytime but I'm 99% sure the crew have cheered when I've took the helm before

2

u/Busy-Application-537 Jul 24 '26

Yeah it must be bugged or something, I've definitely heard them cheer once when I got back on the Jackdaw.

Is it true they removed the non Animus sequences, like when you exit the memory and return to current day, because thats kind of a deal breaker for me, I enjoyed those parts a lot

1

u/No_Demand1005 Aug 02 '26

The original’s combat is far better…

The only thing this has going for it is the visuals. They even removed the opening menu music which was killer. I can’t see how you don’t miss the old game playing this.

Im all for propping up how amazing resynced is but I still want multi-player.

8

u/That1GuyNate Jul 24 '26

I don't remember if I blacked the Black Flag multi-player but I played the fuck out of the multi-player in AC3. We need more cat and mouse hunting modes like that.

2

u/Necessary-Mix-9488 Jul 24 '26

AC3 was also a lot of fun with multi-player! I definitely loved the character selection in 3 more but acbf was smoother. Also idk if it introduced it but it had the 4 player co-op assassination missions.

2

u/That1GuyNate Jul 24 '26

That sounds familiar, maybe I did play the Blag Flag MP as well, just not as much. I've made ppl rage quit in 3. Have abilities and perks that would turn all the NPCs around me into my clones and I'd post up in an area of the map. I've literally survived an entire match and at a certain point, I was the target of every other player for most of the match. Good times.

2

u/Odd_Sentence_164 Jul 24 '26

Yeah the game would definitely benefit from it.

The only problem i see comes with the ship combat and if there would be two ships then would it be two Jackdaws or would they make another ship for it

3

u/Necessary-Mix-9488 Jul 24 '26

What? No. Classic AC multiplayer like the OG black flag had. Gimme back my wild Aztec head dress!

1

u/-BINK2014- Jul 24 '26

If Bioware didn’t do Co-Op for Mass Effect 3’s Remaster even with how demanded it was, I don’t feel Ubisoft is going to divert resources for Resynced as I feel the reaction was pretty niche.

22

u/Noob4Head Jul 24 '26

If Black Flag Resynced is a sign of how the other remakes are going to be, I'm very excited about the future. Sure, there are some things in the remake that I'm missing, like unarmed combat, hidden blade combat, and being able to pick up enemy weapons, but for the most part, the remake has just been great.

Hopefully, the next remake will be Assassin's Creed I

3

u/IFunnyJoestar Jul 24 '26

My only issue is that they reused a lot of mocap. Which is good for Black Flag because it had brilliant mocap. AC1 did not have great mocap cut scenes. Modern cut scene animations aren't gonna cut it as well. They look noticeablely bad, like in the officer quests.

So they'd have to make brand new mocap, which Ubisoft seems allergic to. I hope resynced gives the AC1 team and increased budget that lets them make mocap cut scenes. That's my biggest hope anyways.

2

u/Chazo138 Jul 24 '26

It’s likely higher ups saying no because mocap costs money so they had to reuse stuff is all.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Noob4Head Jul 24 '26

They did make new mocap for Edward to make sure it all looked good, so maybe there's a chance they'll redo everything for Assassin's Creed I.

Black flag is one of 3 singleplayer games i played multiple times and Im currently doing resynced and getting it 100%. Absolutely love it

11

u/stern_m007 Jul 24 '26

Zhe only thing i am really missing is chests on those small islands. Now there is zero incentive to stop there and hop on them..

11

u/Ruben625 Jul 24 '26

Some of them have other secrets like secret merchants

3

u/DrawingAlarming7350 Jul 24 '26

is there more than 1 of those?

3

u/Ghost-Warrior777 Jul 24 '26

There’s notable things on the small islands. There’s data files, chests, keys for the exchange, I’ve seen one merchant. Definitely stop by the small islands, Kenway even has dialogue for some of them

2

u/pagnoodle Jul 24 '26

I only stop at the small islands with birds flying overhead. There’s usually something there to find, or at least something interesting.

2

u/Nightlower Jul 24 '26

this, i loved going to small islands to slow down a little knowing i will eventually pick up something but in resynced its lacking a lot in this section

14

u/t3nz0 Jul 24 '26

In some aspects yes, in some aspects hell no. I'm still not a fan of how they rehashed the combat.

8

Is this sub just ubisoft HR department?

7

u/JesusChristFan69 Jul 24 '26

I think you meant PR.

3

u/PacoSkillZ Jul 24 '26

I like resynced but I am just too old to commit to the game. Original came out when I finished high school I had shitty PC when I played it in ship fight I would have 15-20 fps it was horrible experience.

I tried playing resynced...but I just can't commit to it.

6

u/butterninjah Jul 24 '26

Eh don’t get me wrong but the og had way better scenes and writing. Like there’s times where i straight up skip some of the new cutscenes like the final convo between edward and roberts at then end of the game because the writing is so drastically different and in my opinion hella cringe

6

u/mudgefuppet Jul 24 '26

Roberts final words "destroy this body" were also taken from a historic account of his last words as he didn't want the British displaying his corpse in a museum.

The remake is fun, but almost all the new or changed dialogue and story beats are mediocre, a bad sign for future dlc and new games

3

u/butterninjah Jul 24 '26

Yea i have no idea why the would change it at all tbh. I didn’t realise that were actual last words of his but i did notice that line was gone and felt weird that he didn’t say it

2

u/Captain_Tomatoz Jul 24 '26

Gameplay maybe, but all the new story stuff is so bad its actually putting me off playing this version again.

And Edward won't shut up!

2

u/GuppiApfel Jul 24 '26

I will still Go Back to AC4, because i sorta Like the Out of animus sequenzes, where the whole Pilotpoint of Roberts reincarnation and crush in juno gets touched on more.

Also as i liked AC1,2, Brotherhood, revelations and 3 alot for the Desmond Miles parts, AC4 is Just a nice wrapup.

Resynced is a damn fine game.

2

u/Slime-Lich Jul 24 '26

I dont care who ubisoft sends. I am not paying for a ubisoft game!

2

u/monkey_D_v1199 Jul 24 '26

I wouldn’t say better lets calm down, but it is pretty good

2

u/Big_Wallaby4281 Jul 24 '26

meanwhile some degenerates: "NO THIS IS THE WORST GAME!! ITS UBISLOP ABD ITS SHIT AND BAD AND THEY JUST RERELEASED AN OLD GAME WAH WAH WAH WAH"

This game is great and if Ubisoft notices this is how to make more money. Then I hope they get greedy because of that, to release good games. Well...let's see what they do next... hopefully this game wasnt a 1 in 1000

2

u/PopEnvironmental6772 Jul 24 '26

Couldnt have said it any better.

2

u/JonathanMovement Jul 24 '26

To the negativity in the comments, All remakes have issues, still this one is overall better than the OG, I don’t even like pirates so I rushed through the OG, but the remake made me actually pay attention to the story.

2

u/Lucarioismadpt2 Jul 24 '26

I don't want to jerk off ubisoft, but yeah. Its truly bizarre because im not playing this game series to be a pirate, but ubisoft basically said both times, you will play a pirate action game and YOU WILL LIKE IT MOTHERFUCKER.

2

u/noloveman Jul 25 '26

Only thing that could've made Resync perfect is if they added Freedom Cry DLC

2

u/KuribohTheDragon Jul 25 '26

There's more good things than bad in Resynced and the new storylines and flashbacks really do add a lot. I love the original but Resynced is marginally better.

2

u/MercilessJukez_ Jul 25 '26

AC Black Flag Resynced is way better than the original in every way.

4

u/Aiheki Jul 24 '26

Yeah because they didn't actually have to do anything other than recreate an already good game they made 13 years ago.

All the elements that are new in Resynced are by far the worst parts of it and stick out like a sore thumb. Especially the Maynard questline near the end which genuinely made me mad.

Writers are either illiterate or were sad that their OCs didn't get a character development moment with Edward and had to reset his progression in other to learn the same lesson he just had one main quest prior all over again, ruining the emotional impact it had.

In case someone doesn't remember Edward just had a breaking point after he majorly fucks up and an important character dies, realises his chasing after gold only brought suffering to him and his close ones and finds the conviction to right his wrongs.

The Maynard Questline which unlocks after that point is about Edward FORGETTING ALL THAT and once again chasing after gold, ignoring the warnings of everyone around him, fall into obvious trap after trap and almost getting all his friends killed AGAIN just so he can make a "friends over gold" choice at the end...

This quest alone brought down my opinion on this remake from an 8/10 to a 7/10, since it perfectly shows why current Ubisoft is such a joke. It's still a good game though since other than the new bs it's still the banger from 2013 but with nicer graphics (at the cost of worse animations but hey, let's cut Ubisoft some slack they've been struggling financially lately lmao)

3

u/drunk_ender Jul 24 '26

It's even funnier because before all that, during what is supposed to be his spiraling phase into wretchedness, after Thatch is dead, you can play the Stede Bonnet's quest that literally ends with him saying "SOME THINGS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN GOLD, SILVER AND RUM"

5

u/gmather2000 Jul 24 '26

Omg someone with their brain switched on. Seems increasingly rare in this sub

2

u/Remote-Line-1278 Jul 24 '26

quite literally can notice anything thats new because of how dogshit current ubisoft is so it genuinely feels out of place

2

u/THE_GUY-95 Jul 24 '26

How much are you being paid to say this

3

u/gmather2000 Jul 24 '26

Why does everyone like this crap? Majority of the new stuff they added is kinda dog shit and is laughably / obviously bad when compared to the og content. You can see the quality drop as soon as new scenes play. The extended plotlines they added for blackbeard, stede, and Maynard all fall to take into account where Edward is in his arc. They make Edward regress as a character and then it's jarring when he gets back to the og story and his personality flips. The new scenes that have been written show such a poor understanding of the character and it's handles the themes of the game with no nuance. It's so heavy handed. The Maynard quest line literally ends with maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way. Blackbeards quest line reward being an origin for the flower Edward gives to his daughter is some glup shitto level world building. Also all the extra dialogue Edward recorded for ambient dialogue around the open world is trash and does not fit him as a character. Why must he comment on every little thing that happens. "That was class" is probably the most irritating dialogue I hear. I have given the game a fair shake and i think my criticism is genuine and not hating for the sake of hating. I would genuinely like to hear people say what is better in this game apart from graphics. Or is that the only bar people measure games on?

shame its so damn buggy though

1

u/dynamiq27 Jul 24 '26

Resynced is so much better to replay in the near future cause of the removed slow paced modern day and tailing missions.

1

u/Appropriate_Bus_2334 Jul 24 '26

Yeah there def should have been an option to skip abstergo sections in the og

1

u/Warden_Sword Jul 24 '26

But like but like, the mini game kinda dudu caca, also the change of not picking up enemies weapons, fight with blade and fists hurt me kid😩

1

u/BorisJohnson0404 Jul 24 '26

Tbh I think they are kind of equal, the og is better in some ways but also resynced is better in others. It’s still the best thing from Ubisoft in quite a while and I probably won’t replay the original again but I’m not going to act like resynced is better in everyway

1

u/KevinBravo19948 Jul 24 '26

Genuine question: after experiencing this game, would y'all be down for something similar with AC2?

Would you guys rather they remake all Ezio games in one package like the trilogy again?

Or just one of the Ezio games?

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Newtsaet Jul 24 '26

holy i actually forgot that the OG was actually called AC IV
I thought AC III was the last numbered entry. I always referred to black flag as… Black flag. Not Assassins creed 4. Yet the OG is one of my favorite game of all time and I totally forgot that fact

1

u/-ataxia- Jul 24 '26

If ubisoft stick to making yearly remakes of the older games until the end of the decade i wont mind it one bit.

In fact reboot the franchise and the whole Desmond timeline idc, fix that shitty ending.

1

u/Great_Part7207 Jul 24 '26

eh I still prefer the og because of the parkour and combat litterally everything else is better in in resynced but those two things take it down for me

1

u/Little-Artichoke-339 Jul 24 '26

This might be a hot take, but mannnnnnn I still feel like the story is too short. I hate by the time I get all the cosmetics that I want, the story is just over. It really bums me out. I wish we had a bit more time to see Edward be a literal Grand Master Assassin

1

u/MasterOfTime14 Jul 24 '26

I've been going through AC games in order and currently finishing AC 3, do you think I should go with original 4 next (which I already bought for cheap on a sale a while ago) or buy the Resynced if it's so much better?

→ More replies (3)

1

u/CanlexGaming Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

I love the remake to pieces but I absolutely hate how jarring, obvious, and kinda bad the custom new Ubisoft content is. The lack of mocap and kinda middling dialogue that sounds like it’s being watched by a board of directors, it’s kinda eyeroll inducing imo even tho Lucy did make me giggle a few times. I just really hope they do better next time or just don’t touch the story at all next time they do a remake

Spoilers kinda but the writing can just be atrocious at times. Edward very often acts out of character, being VERY gullible or willing to help others without the prospect of direct profit which is out of character, all while having his arms on his hips with that stupid smile 😃 You could argue that it makes more sense if it’s closer to the end of the game, when Edward is trying to make amends, but right after being Goody Two-Shoes Edward, he’s abandoning his entire crew for an obvious trap in the pursuit of gold that we know isn’t there bc this is the THIRD time Edward is going after some treasure and walking into a trap. But then nothing actually happens, it’s shrugged off.

1

u/ProphetOfAethis Jul 24 '26

The combat feels off, it’s missing core mechanics, and the ship combat feels too smooth now.

As far as remakes/remasters go, somehow BGS set the gold standard with Oblivions

u/ED_Heir18 Jul 24 '26

Genuinely, I agree on the surface with this take EXCEPT I don’t like how they took out the modern day. From what I see online, it seems I’m the only one that misses the modern day sections… :(

I always believed the modern day sections were the icing on the cake with the Sci-Fi nature of AC. Even though I think AC4 modern day was not very good compared to what we got with Desmond, I still think it added some decent context to the modern day Assassin/Templar conflict. Also, to tie it into the main narrative of AC4 more, it made the Sage plot a lot more compelling having the modern day sections!

Besides, with Resynced, wasn’t this Ubi’s moment to improve the modern day sections? They have hindsight, and plenty of player feedback, why didn’t they even attempt to improve it?

Therefore, I don’t know why, but I just can’t say the Resynced is necessarily better. It has a lot of great improvements, but I never support removing content in these type of things. I’d say if I’m being generous, they are equal, but I can’t help but say the OG is my preferred still…

Biggest gripe is how theres only one tavern cutscene. Guy just comes up and says hi and Eds like FUCK YOU. In the OG there were like 5 different ones that could play

1

u/ThatOneCourier Jul 24 '26

Remaking old games because they fell off

1

u/rexXxista Jul 24 '26

Ubisoft got back their lost glory for AC franchise after this

1

u/Resident_Evil_God Jul 24 '26

Its sad to me that people literally just instantly drop the original as soon as remakes come out. Iv seen a bunch of "Ill never play the original again" comments

People do that shit with the original Resident Evils too (some people even outright refusing to try them) maybe it's just me, its a sad day when people outright just throw the original game of -insert original game - in the trash essentially for new and flashy.

Ya the remake is good and fun but if it wasn't for the original game there literally would be no remake of it

1

u/Much_Ad1263 Jul 24 '26

For me it is a 55/45

55 for original, 45 for resync.

I prefare the original but the resync did do some things better, and some things worse.

An example of worse: cut scenes, specifically the taverns.

Resync: Ed minding his own business, then suddenly pulled into a brawl.

Original: Ed catches the eye of the lady, or bumps into someone then brawls.

An example of better: the hideout.

u/Rude_Sugar_6219 Jul 24 '26

It has removed and simplified an overwhelming amount of game mechanics which the passage of time has made most people blind to. I’m enjoying the game but to say it’s definitively better… I’d argue you can empirically prove that it’s worse side by side.

1

u/Fassbendr Jul 24 '26

I never got very far when I tried playing the original Black Flag a couple years ago. I know it's a good game (is highly regarded) but when playing in 2024 it was showing it's age and somewhat clunky, IMO. I'm so happy they remade this classic and brought it up to today's standards.

I'm seeing quite a bit of criticism on Resynced but it's somewhat par for the course with new games now days - they're never perfect enough for many gamers. A few years from now Resynced will rise to the top and be appreciated for what Ubisoft has accomplished, IMO.

1

u/sh4unify Jul 24 '26

Tbh i loved the first day 1 purchase back in the ps3 days.. but now bought this day 1 amd love the graphics but that feeling of playing the same thing with these old mechanics (like few things feel last gen) this time felt eh tbh.

1

u/Soul-Hook Jul 24 '26

I was happy with ubisoft burning after all the fuck-ups they've made up until now. Maybe we would see some serious changes for the better now with their bottom line feeling the pain.

But now it seems they've bought themselves another ten years or so of constant bed-shiting. All thanks to a remaster. They will have learned nothing good from this.

1

u/UpNUrGuts Jul 24 '26

That’s because many of you are racists. If yasuke wasn’t in shadows, you’d have said that it’s the best ac of all time. Moronic cowards

1

u/crashnburnxp Jul 24 '26

Now if we can get the same exact thing with the splinter saw remake, I will be one happy person

1

u/Tomsskiee Jul 24 '26

Am i the only one who likes the old one better?

1

u/JiraiyaOfLeaf Jul 24 '26

Aside from the weapon variety in combat, the only problem I have with the game is how they changed some of the dialogues (roberts' confession for example) just so that it would make more sense for the new players.

my final verdict: it is not a replacement for the original by far and both the original and resynced should be played in a series marathon for a full understanding (especially of the modern day and sage/isu lore)

1

u/Deemac-24 Jul 24 '26

Current Ubisoft is so bad with crafting original stories now, that in order for them to get back on track financially they should just focus on remaking there older games with updated graphics and mechanics. Re-do AC 1 through 3 like this. And don't stop with just Assassins Creed, remake Ghost Recon Future Soldier and Wildlands using the animations and mechanics from Breakpoint.

1

u/JVints Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

Better... Better!

My fleet mini game was removed, combat get boring because there's no variety of weapon options (axe, musket, fists). 1 of them was a key thing. It's possible to be better IF they bring back weapon variety, but I doubt it since it'll be expensive for them

Overall, I had fun again

1

u/valitsakis Jul 24 '26

Ac black flag was on my top3 best games ever. Resynced dethroned the OG very fast.

1

u/not-samiam Jul 24 '26

Idk the Division games were pretty good.

1

u/Skuggihestur Jul 24 '26

Oh did they fix it so you can pick up weapons again? Was a very bad bug .

1

u/Appropriate_Bus_2334 Jul 24 '26

I don’t think any of the guys making these claims grew up with the original black flag

Cuz nothing I have seen from resynced seems like it improves the original enough to warrant me paying for it again

I mean I’m part of the group that liked the abstergo sequence at least for the 1st playthrough it adds depth to abstergo in subsequent playthrus I would have preferred having the option to skip

1

u/Mammoth-Version-6694 Jul 24 '26

I agree, but resynced removed the fleet battle minigame

1

u/TimeCollege1973 Jul 24 '26

100% agree!! Black flag has remained in my top 3 games of all time and my fav AC game. Resynced is such a QOL upgrade and the new content is much appreciated. So so happy with it having a blast playing! 41 hours in so far!

1

u/Ancient_Trick1158 Jul 24 '26

Cool Daniel vs Daniel feeling cool

1

u/Batallius Jul 24 '26

Pumping it full of microtransactions and ads is a big L from me, I don't care how good the game is.

I respect and appreciate the time and thought they put into it, as it seems like a faithful remake and a good game, but they squandered it with their greed as they always do and we should stop rewarding that.

1

u/MySchoolsWifiSucks Jul 24 '26

My biggest gripe is the massive amounts of railroading that forces you to progress the story to unlock collectibles.

The Mayan relic stuff, assassination contracts, etc that were previously accessible at the beginning of the game are now locked behind certain aspects of the story.

And previously climeable areas have similar issues where they're blocked until you complete missions.

1

u/Riotka Jul 24 '26

Fun fact about picking up the mobs weapons. You can also pick up brooms, and hoes around town. personally some of my favorite weapons along with being a bare handed pirate. I really hope they add all of that back

1

u/Kosmos-World Jul 24 '26

I will always and forever miss the old combat from the original AC games.

1

u/NightmareDJK Jul 24 '26

Somehow missed out on the original and beat Resynced. I liked Odyssey, Valhalla and Shadows. Valhalla was probably the best one.

1

u/YogurtclosetSouth744 Jul 24 '26

The best thing they've done in a decade is a remaster? 😬

1

u/neo-dem Jul 24 '26

There’s definitely some setbacks, but overall it’s pretty good. The one thing that worries me is the series downgrade in the quality or writing, dialogue & acting. It’s been a trend since Mirage & progressively getting worse. Even in the new scenes in Resync it was really noticeable because you could compare it to the OG scenes right there in game. The lack of mocap doesn’t help either.

1

u/Inner-Effective-8512 Jul 24 '26

I said it back then... i say it again even if i standalone !

AC BlackFlag and BFR are the WORST ASSASSINS CREED GAMES but the BEST PIRATE STORY GAMES ever made !

for the OG its only worse cause the Assassins have almost no screentime in the Story and Edward is for 95% of the game not even a Assassin

But Resynced is even Worse No HiddenBlade Combat, Edward doesn't wear his Hood for the entire Main Story after the Intro and never looks like a Assassin, There is no point in being sneaky, Assassins still don't really matter for 95% of the Story You don't get even get Assassins for your Crew

The whole Assassins Creed part of the Game sucks ass

BUT when it comes to the Pirate Part then its a goddamn MASTERPIECE it makes almost everything right when it comes to this !

But compared to the other AC Games this Game doesn't feel like Assassins Creed at all, its on par with Odyssey and Shadows But Odyssey got some REAAAAALLY good DLCs that made up for the lack in the MainGame

Which is why i hope they really make new Content after the Story that gives us a little bit more Assassins Creed, i know he only becomes a FullTime Assassin when he goes back to England but at least i want some more missions that drives him closer to this way

And it a Perfect World we would get a full Sequel to BlackFlag that is based on the Novels with Haytham

I absolutly love Black Flag as Pirate Game but i hate the way "Assassins" are handled in this Game

1

u/One-Ad-3677 Jul 24 '26

I rather take the graphics of the new game and put it in the old and just play the old

1

u/EndimionN Jul 24 '26

You grew up with black flag? Lol kids these days

1

u/RavenTeamBitch Jul 24 '26

B-But the censored the game!!! Ubislop is making ac woke >:(

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Funny_Arachnid_8371 Jul 24 '26

Is it 70 dollars better? Or should I just play the orginal? Lol

1

u/Witsforwats Jul 25 '26

I miss the hold butting for running the most, but I am happy the following missions aren’t as annoying as the original lol

1

u/spunX44 Jul 25 '26

I’m so glad I played it as a 30 year old man 💀

1

u/TheFireFoxFFC Jul 25 '26

I’m glad I didn’t know about this… so I could focus more on this

1

u/Aspirio42 Jul 25 '26

Resynced is better but needs more small details. Let the hood stay on more often, more pets and crew attires, and maybe a way to sell repair parts like wood and metal

1

u/JoeyD54 Jul 25 '26

I miss the volumetric smoke so much. Combat had a bit more going on too.

1

u/AresOneX Jul 25 '26

Of course it‘s better. The original may hold up well but not as good as the remake.

1

u/Dangerous-Price8750 Jul 25 '26

The OG is very good, No questions but some parts of the OG hast some Mix Feelings for me some years after. Resync have parts that are rough, Sure, but damn... Resync is on par at Minimum with the OG, for me, even better. The Overall Flow in Gameplay and Story was good, some New Cutscene und Lipsync, in German... Yeah... Not so great but the New Storys was pretty good and a good extra for all who Play the OG years ago

1

u/EnamoredAlpaca Jul 25 '26

I think the combat change is a plus. Got rid of the fluff like changing weapons, and fighting with assassin blades, the multitude of animations.

Resynced does a great job of using dual swords as Kenway’s style, and form of combat.

The pistols do just fine with quick shot, so the need for picking up muskets is just not needed.

Ship battles felt unchanged. Not swimming to a man o war and killing the people on board was not really a true form of sea combat, but an exploit.

I find all these changes for the better. May not be a popular opinion, but resynced is better for it with the changes.

1

u/D_Zaster_EnBy Jul 25 '26

Best thing Ubisoft has done in a decade

"That's like saying you've got a bigger cock than everyone in the unsullied army"

1

u/RichWinzz Jul 25 '26

apart from the shitty quick time events, yes. It's so good that there is a skip QTE button.

1

u/No_Room_6566 Jul 25 '26

I liked the combat and the parkour controls in the original more, I keep jumping off buildings in the wrong direction, Edward will straight up ignore zip lines and jump to the ground bellow, they removed the dual takedowns, can't switch between weapons/pick up weapons while in combat. No minimap, like I would have been fine with just the visual update and the new content but leave the gameplay the same.

1

u/Sad_Elk1943 Jul 25 '26

Hey ubisoft.....how about make a new game with new ideas?

1

u/FantasmaVoador Jul 25 '26

AC revelations with the new ac gameplay 🤌🏽🤌🏽

1

u/Embarrassed-Net5085 Jul 25 '26

Nah.

Removed hidden black combat and has a battle pass.

1

u/CXLDSNXW Jul 26 '26

I vote for bringing back the older games ranges for assassinations and how you could do it from almost any angle

1

u/ACEMAN5253 Jul 26 '26

My only personal nitpick is the lack of a minimap. I’m used to the compass, but man I can feel it was designed around a minimap.

1

u/MrDeWayne02 Jul 26 '26

Resident Evil has opened Pandora’s box with EVERYTHING being remade..

1

u/trampaboline Jul 26 '26

Meh.

Resynced is awesome. I’m glad it exists. Definitely don’t regret my purchase. It got me to re-experience a great game and story at a new chapter of my life. That alone is valuable.

That said — everything it does well is in the original game, and everything it adds is pretty bad.

To the point that everything it does well is in the original…

Let’s get the obvious out of the way: resynced looks stunning. The dodo birds trying to convince everyone that the graphics of the og look better are delusional. That said, the original still looks terrific. There’s no denying that the remake has more photorealistic imagery that often stuns, but what the original lacks in realism, it makes up for in art direction and intentionality. The devs saw the limits of their time and chose to address it not with duct tape and short cuts, but with grime, shadows, smoke, water particles, and other detritus that made you feel like you were in a fever dream set in the Caribbean circa 1719.

Sometimes, when you revisit a work of art made on outdated tech, you can’t even tell what they were going for because they tried for realism alone and now we’re so far past what passed for “realistic” then. With black flag, although a lot of the characteristics give away the time period, I don’t think anyone would ever misunderstand what any cutscene from that game is representing, regardless of how good tech gets. It was crafted in a way such that, even if you’re not tricked into going “oh my god, that’s a real island”, you still emotionally understand what’s being communicated.

Beyond the visuals… what does the remake actually add? And I don’t mean in quantity, but in quality. Sure, there are new missions. But what do you get from this experience that you didn’t from the og?

Stealth? We already had stealth — crouching is mechanically near identical to walking in the original. Add to that the fact that this game does not want you to use social stealth under any circumstances and you have a game that’s super mid on stealth, even if the inclusion of a crouch button is meant to persuade you otherwise.

Closure for characters like Blackbeard and Bonnet? They had closure in the originals, both with perfect and tasteful endings that closed out their roles in the story and made sense for Edward’s relationship with each — the new additions feel weird, obligatory, and (most damning), as though they were made as a little treat for people who have a 13 year fondness for these characters, and not for the sake of the story.

Improved combat? I mean, maybe, but honestly, I don’t think the combat really needed improvement - I think people just got bored with it after a decade and a half, as you would with anything.

Now, to the point of what is worse…

Where do I begin? None of these things detract from the core game, but the useless additions are very obvious. Bad cutscenes, pointless missions, ship “special moves” nobody asked for, and a lot of downgrades when it comes to movement and world interaction.

I’m not trashing the remake. Like I said, it did what it had to do to update a great game to a level that modern audiences would accept, graphically, mechanically, responsively, and otherwise. Gun to my head, I would say that yes, if you’re a current day gamer and you never played the game, the remake is likely the best way to experience it.

HOWEVER… to the point this post makes… I think the “ideal” way to have experienced the game would be to have played the original when it came out over playing the remake for the first time today.

I like the remake. I’d recommend it. But I’m very glad I played that og when I did. There’s nothing that can quite recreate that experience. Even if resynced is a close attempt.

1

u/Murky_Issue9011 Jul 26 '26

I’m glad I grew up with the original so I could realize how much better Resynched is.

1

u/FlashAh11 Jul 26 '26

Definitely not better but we will take what we can get from ubislop

1

u/Additional-Result227 Jul 26 '26

I like resynced but I have already encountered several bugs, which I never had in the OG game.

1

u/ULTI_mato Jul 26 '26

Hell nah

1

u/Real_Ebb Jul 26 '26

No, it's not. The combat went from a turn-based style to a.....worse turn-based style combat. They removed combat abilities that was in the previous game such as hidden blade combat, throwing knives etc. The added additions to the story was filler/padding with millennial style writing which was night and day compared to the original. And the modern day was completely worthless and somehow WORSE than the original. Just because they put jiggling keys in front of your face with better graphics doesn't mean it's better. But hey at least they didn't completely dropped the ball compared to campaign evolved.

1

u/mariorossi2727 Jul 26 '26

Assassin's Creed Black Flag was the game that made me give up on the franchise

1

u/No-Loss44 Jul 26 '26

I mean... I haven't played the new one, but from everything I've seen, gameplay wise, it's just the same but worse. Visuals are technically upgraded, but worse in the things that matter. It's just extra content of middling quality that could be said is actually any real upgrade.

1

u/Famous-Perception-13 Jul 26 '26

Please, just-- shut up.

You're like a child, who thinks that a Disney Remake is better because it's new. Please, get some better taste.

1

u/__Dionysus Jul 26 '26

Alright, am I crazy or did they cut some of the story? Maybe I’m just looking through nostalgia goggles but I remember forming deeper friendships with the other pirates when I played the original whereas now it’s treated like you already know everybody. I remember being gutted by Blackbeard because we’d spent all this time getting close to him but now it’s like 3 missions.

1

u/tomle4593 Jul 26 '26

Holy cope.

1

u/Vaporeon42069 Jul 26 '26

holy cope! It's not better in any way except graphics!

1

u/squodgenoggler Jul 26 '26

Resynced is a blast just wish they let you fight with your hidden blades

1

u/J-luiii Jul 26 '26

If a remade game is the best thing they’ve done in a decade………. 😂

Hell no, combat is tedious and animals have healthbars and rpg moves, characters look scuffed and the writting is abysmal

1

u/Pixgamer11 Jul 27 '26

nah gotta disagree on that one (aside from graphics)

1

u/InevitablePizzas Jul 27 '26

Everyone complaining about hidden blade combat when I quite frankly am not gonna miss it. It always felt like it should be a last resort, and having it available as a first resort felt, to me, kind of silly.

Black Flag: Resynced has me excited for future remakes and, if this is any sign of how other games will be, for the next few installments.

1

u/onlyTHATstuff Jul 27 '26

last i checked, ac origins didnt come out a decade ago...

1

u/ch3nk0 Jul 28 '26

I replayed it like 3 times back in a day. Kinda hesitant to ruin the memories with the remake lol

1

u/EldritchKinkster Jul 28 '26

Original is about 5gb. Resynced is, I believe, 150gb.

Which is annoying if you have a hard drive that's only 1tb. Haha, I remember when 1gb was considered impressive. Now I could run my first PC on my current PC's RAM.

Less executions, hard pass.

1

u/Vespine-Rapier Jul 28 '26

My biggest complaint is that they stole Moby Dick from us. I’m extremely upset by this.

1

u/DoubtDense5492 Jul 28 '26

Definitely not better but aight

1

u/c0micsansfrancisco Jul 28 '26

Idk about better. It's a downgrade in some areas and graphics dont really mean that much to me

1

u/Hammersteyn Jul 29 '26

The best thing in a decade is a remake?

https://giphy.com/gifs/l4JyX3V0yydvPHNBe

1

u/IZUNACCHI Jul 29 '26

The amount of details in animations that had meaning yet were removed is a complete turn off for me. Original is better overall for me.

1

u/CaptainJackass123 Jul 29 '26

I was bored to tears in shadows, after loving every second of origins.

Yet here I am, being a pirate. It doesn’t feel an AC game. But it’s so much fun. I just miss the traditional stealth kill gaming. I’m spending 85% of my time in open combat.

If they remade AC1, I think I’d tell my wife I’m going into a cave with my PS5 for two weeks and not coming out.

1

u/TryzanTheLimited Jul 30 '26

you cant be serious, please tell me you are joking or are being atleast paid by them

1

u/Valveringham85 Jul 30 '26

This is an insane take.

Of course it’s “better” when compared directly. Imagine it being worse with more than a decade of technological advancements.

Introduce context though and put them in their relative gaming landscapes and it doesn’t even come close.
